Prices are crazy expensive for what you actually get, $24 for 3 TINY tacos. We had to order a side of fries we were still hungry. They also auto-tip 18% regardless of group size. Today was the first day that restaurants were to be HST tax exempt, when we raised that to the waitress after being charged the HST, she said "Its not mandatory.." A quick google search says that it is, so we basically were cheated out of the tax. We were also charged a $25 "Cake fee" since we brought a cake. They didn't serve the cake or cut it, yet still charged the fee. We argued this and they reluctantly took it off. Between the tiny portions, auto-tip, cake fee, and charging us the HST when they shouldn't have, I cannot recommend this place. read more

We went to this cute little restaurant last weekend, and really enjoyed the atmosphere, food and friendly service. We tried the shrimp tacos, not amazing or really special in anyway, and a little over priced, but they tasted good. The shrimp were well seasoned with a house made taco seasoning, and the toppings were fresh and the veggies were crunchy. The Mexican poutine was my favorite part of our meal, I didn't realize it would be a 4 person shareable portion. It was loaded with toppings and was vegetarian, and full of flavour. The onions had some special seasoning on them, I'm not sure if there was sour cream or a house sauce, loaded with fresh diced tomatoes, and a good handful of jalapeños. And under all that goodness the crispy fries were sitting on a bed of melted cheese, and lots of it. They definitely didn't skimp out on anything with this dish, I would highly recommend you try this. We also got one shrimp tostada, and we were very under impressed with this dish, the corn tortilla was drenched in oil, and it was like a small salad, not a lot of flavour. Lastly I got a cosmo, which tasted like it had little alcohol in it, I could not taste the ounce of vodka that was supposed to be in there, but it was a well made virgin drink, would I pay $10 again for it? Probably not... The staff were very welcoming and arranged a table for us even though they were very busy and the house was packed. Our server was also very nice, but I think they needed maybe a few more, it was a little bit of a wait for us to get our bill. But over all she was a good waitress, very friendly, know the menu, and didn't offer too much advice unless I asked about something, so no upselling, which is always appreciated. read more

We came here on a Sunday evening where were it was pretty empty, We ordered the following: Nachos - probably the worst I've ever had, they were so soggy covered in runny sour cream and cheese Chicken Tacos - pretty tasty, but it had a very strong chipotle flavour Shrimp Tacos- had a very overpowering chipotle flavour , so much so it was difficult to eat. Veggie Enchiladas - it was simply just grilled veggies and cheese inside a flour tortilla covered with cheese and yellow sauce that was way too runny. Don't go here for the food. I saw the reviews on Yelp and went anyway as not a lot of places are open after 10. Good atmosphere with music and band and very lively. Good drinks and vibe, so go there for that! The food on the other hand.. meh. The veggies on the tacos were turning brown/red and when they charge $25 for Mahi Mahi tacos, one expects fresh toppings. The tortilla was good and the Mahi Mahi wasn't bad, but not that great. Steak chimichanga was.. ok ... Flavourful steak but that was it. Rice and peas and other stuff inside was just "ok". Waited a very long time to be served though. Had to interrupt staff as they walked by to get menus. We gave this place a chance despite the reviews and was sadly dissapointed. Service was terrible, waitress took.like 15 mins. to take orders (3 persons), forgot o e of the dri KS and.took another 10 mins to bring it to the table, spill the chips.on table when putting them.down, give the drinks on hand, ask.fpr warm bottle of water for a sick kid and she said they put all of bottles on fridge. Food cold (tacos) looks like 2 of the orders (total 3) were ready forst and she didn't bring them over til the fourth one was ready, obviously the 2 first plates/dishes were cold, ask for a.second beer and never show up. On top of that we were charged with an "automatic tip charged of 16% " even we were just 3 people. When we asked to talk to manager she said it's me and nothing else to.do in a sarcastic way. 3.5 Star My Yelp friend was so relax and chill while we were chowing down Tacos at Yo Amo Tacos. The interior deco does reminds me of Playa del Carmen or somewhere in a resort area in Mexico. We were sitting at the sun room area overlooking a small ravine, not a beach but I can really use my imagination! I really want a real Margarita but apparently the bartender was not in the house and no cocktails or foo foo drinks for me... (hopefully next visit!) I ended up having a Negra Modelo ($7.25) We also shared: Fish Ceviche Taco ($6) - Fish or Seafood? Tasted a little bland and the seafood was hard and dry.. I have to remind myself I am not in Mexico! Tuna Tartar Tostada ($7) - Really tasty and the condiments complimented the tuna tartar perfectly, will order again! Short Rib Taco ($6) - Meat was tender and flavoured Fish Taco ($6) - Fish was dry and mushy (Most of the tacos were really saucy and piled high with fillings, making eating a messy and tricky experience.) And for dessert, the most important part of the meal, we shared: Grilled Pineapple with Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream and Dulce de Leche ($8) - love everything! A great combination of texture, taste and presentation! Churros in a Maya Chocolate Sauce ($7) - Churros were a little doughy but love the chocolate sauce.... and the presentation was interesting! Great food, mediocre service. To start the food here was fantastic! We got the nachos with chorizo and guacamole and it was so good I was sad when it was all gone. We got a selection of tacos as well, octopus, flank steak, lamb, pork belly and beef. All were excellent but a few of them seemed to have to same fixings with just different meat. I was fine with that but others might. The flavour was excellent, all of the meats were cooked perfectly and they were really delicious and presented well. The building, well, I raised an eyebrow when we first arrived and stepping inside was a slight relief. We came in the middle of the week (Tuesday night) and it was almost empty. The service from the single waitress was pretty bad. I'm not sure if she was also cooking the food but she rarely came around for drink refills. I hope this isn't the same when the place is better. Please, if you're thinking of going here, re-think your decision. My gfs and I had a terrible uncomfortable time here. First of all, there's hardly any parking. My 4 gfs and I came in 3 separate cars and not one of us could get a spot in their lot. Other guests had already made their own parking spots wherever they could. So even those artificial spots were taken. We ended up having to park at the plaza across the street. It's totally a buzzkill having to run across 4 lanes of traffic in wedges. There's a light you could cross at, but it's so far. *eye roll Anyways, I had a long standing craving for fish tacos, so I was pretty set on this. After we had put our orders through, the server came back not too shortly to let me know that the fish tacos were actually $25 that evening. $25, are you crazy?! It had something to do with the fish vendor and the type of fish. I mean, it was really nice she let me know, because there was no way I was ordering $25 fish tacos. Especially, at a resto that had less than impressive reviews. I had read them before coming here, but didn't have the heart to tell my gfs, since they were pretty set on coming here. So after she tells me this, I proceed to take a look at the menu once again. She then starts to suggest things similar to the fish tacos, ie. shrimp tacos, octopus etc. I then let her know I was allergic to shellfish. Her attitude was totally rushed, as if IIII was inconveniencing her, while she is there hovering, waiting for me to make a decision. Like girl, chill, can I get a moment?! I told her she could just come back for my order and she tells me that the other girls need the till, so she needs to put the order through. I let her know, that was fine, to put my gfs's order. She then proceeds to tell me that it could take awhile for my order to be brought out, if she puts the order through separately. Like how much later could it be?!? Anyways, I ended up just getting some chicken taco or something. I don't even remember because it was totally unmemorable, besides the fact that they were disgusting. The second tortilla they use here is totally unnecessary, as they were rubbery, dry, bland. An all around sad taco. My gf thought the same thing. I ate one and traded her for one of hers and left the third one. I was not wasting my calories on those. We had also ordered the poutine mexicana for the table and these were the only good thing for the night. Drinks were okay too. Just when we thought it couldn't get worse, for some reason EVERY single server kept checking up on our table EVERY 5 minutes. I'm not even joking. The five of us were so annoyed. Like YES, everything is okay. It's still okay from when we were asked 5 minutes ago! And why is everyone even asking us anyways? They weren't serving us?? The places decore is really nice. However the tables are stacked one on top of the other. We were there on 10/20/201. Noise was unreal. Impossible to have a conversation. Music sounds just like base. Price for food is $$$$. I ordered a burrito for $26 and it was smaller than at other Mexican places and with fries on the side and not as tasty. There were extremely salty and had to ask for a replace my that came very fast. No vegetables or anything next to it but fries. Es no comida mexicana! The meet inside the burrito was cold. Other dishes were ok. Fajitas looked good. I didn't taste it. I got a 18% tip incorporated in the bill. Not sure why they decide for me how good the service is... we were four people. The chicken was cold, the mushroom was very bland. The avocado was the best taco and was actually very good but the tacos themselves were hard. This location opened this week. It's based on its sister restaurant in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I have frequented the Playa location so have my expectations. The Playa place is basically a taco joint, albeit very good tacos. First question is will it translate well here, especially considering we won't have the same ingredients or chef up here. Both restaurants are owned by entrepreneur Carlo Parentela. He also owns Le Jardin banquet hall, in Woodbridge, which I know to be one of the best in a vast sea of banquet halls in Woodbridge. First impression. Wow! This is a Mexican restaurant in York region? The place is decked out and it's not small either. They're expecting 300 people for the grand opening tonight. It has a walk out basement into a yard with more seating. The food is on par with the Playa restaurant. Tacos were all prepared correctly, I especially liked the shrimp. All served on wooden flat plates. Ceviche could have a better balance of flavours in the marinade. The pork posole was very tender and has a potent blend of flavours. I would say 3.5/5 for this. I had a Groupon for this place where I paid approx $10 for $20 worth of food. I ordered the taco sampler which had steak, pork and fish and something else. The tacos weren't bad and I thought the presentation was lovely. It's probably one of the better tacos I've had in the GTA but not even close to Mexico but WAY WAY WAY better than Taco Bell. I really enjoyed the steak one. What I also liked was that they give you so many types of dipping sauce too. In addition, this place is gorgeous. When you drive in, you think you are parking your car into someone's big mansion parking lot with the nice statue and setup. In addition, inside is beautiful and reminds me of the large restaurants in Mexico City. So why only 3.5 stars? a) The flies. I saw some really big flies near my table and had to keep shooing them away. Not the biggest deal, but ruins the experience slightly. b) For the price they charge (even though I had a Groupon), I kind of wish they served nachos. Went there tonight little creepy when your front door is like that: makes it look either vacated or the place just got robbed. Had the guac and chips guac good green salsa very good. The chips felt and tasted store bought. I had the steak fajitas the others had chicken normally fajitas are brought out sizzling hot both orders were not. The wraps were good no quad included in the fajitas big portions. I found the steak to be very bland; and in need of seasoning. If you want to escape Toronto just for a little bit... and imagine yourself somewhere south.. and tropical.. this is the place.. it has a very authentic mexican feel.. back solarium is awesome as it faces a ravine ... very hard to capture in pictures but its really cool.. i think the main selling point for this restaurant.. but that being said, location is not the best as its pretty far from where i live and you need a car. presentation is good and service was excellent... very polite staff and management who came to check up on us.. food was authentic mexican tasting... only deducting a point because of price. it is on the expensive side ... and civiche needs not a little .. but a lot more lime IMO. read more

If I could give this a 0 I would. The scenery was beautiful and that's where the positive ends. I brought my family there for my fathers 77th birthday and unfortunately nothing tasted good. I ordered guacamole and flautas (chicken) for appetizers. The guacamole was old, turning brown. It had 0 taste, it was literally just mashed up day old avocado. Typically you have onion, tomato, garlic and lime juice, this had nothing. The flautas were all burnt and served with Parmesan cheese. Definitely not Mexican. Not sure how the chicken inside the flautas was black (charted)??. The waitress offered to replace them however I declined. For main course we had tacos and Mexican burritos, all unfortunately again had 0 taste, not even salt. Lastly the service could have been better. I ordered a coffee, was never offered a refill or checked up on if I needed something else. My waitress had a positive attitude just not very good at her job. We actually had service from the surrounding waitresses that were kind enough to bring us water. Service aside, this review is solely based on the awful quality of the food. The menu is a scam with you order something that says "and your choice of beef, chicken or vegetables" that means extra $6 for your "choice of". There was no manager in to deal with the situation and I'm talking about Sunday dinner time. Now let's talk about the food... I never seen a Caesar salad like the one they served. The burger we couldn't eat because was so salty. I order a "protein lettuce wrap" and the lettuce was old and they didn't even bother to cut the parts that wasn't good anymore of the lettuce. Went into Yo Amo Tacos today wondering if it was even open. It was so we thought we'd give it a try. The place was completely empty but soon more people came in. We opened the menu and found our usual Mexican staple, Enchiladas. The price was $22!!! Even if these were the best enchiladas we've ever had (and we've had some GOOD ones) I'm sorry, there would be absolutely no way to justify $22. Other prices on the menu were equally ridiculous. I couldn't do it. I simply could not bring myself to order $22 enchiladas on principle. Yo Amo Tacos (or Yo "heart" Tacos as the sign confusingly shows) is NOT a trendy or upscale place that can dare to charge prices like this for show. It's a run down joint that really should be fairly priced and awesome like mostly every other Mexican restaurant I've had the pleasure to give positive ratings to. I would have rated it ZERO if there is... Please save your hard earned money and spend it somewhere else where there would be better food and you'll be treated well. This place is TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE! First, the place was steaming and uncomfortably hot! It took many "request" and people for them to turn off the heat. We were group of 10 and they are so NOT accommodating to our request the entire night to even move us to a table that is reasonably comfortable. Their food is NOT good and serves bad/stale vegetables! When I expressed to the male server that the cabbage was bad and sour (even my friend tasted it and she spit it out), the server did not even apologize, he did not take away the food and he did not even offer to resolve the situation. He went on with his work without coming back to me to take away the bad food and offer the menu so I can order something else. He just told me with an attitude that NOBODY COMPLAINED BEFORE (which I doubt very much). They just left the food until WE ASKED them to take it away (photo shown attached). The male server (I wish I got his name) was very rude and inattentive! He took so long to take drinks order, we even had to go to the bar ourselves TWICE to get pitcher of water, brought dirty glasses, he mixed up our orders, brought wrong dish, put items on wrong bills, did not check in with us while we were eating and the worst was the way he treated me with the bad food. Apparently, my bf talked to the owner and requested to resolve things with me, that owner NEVER came to talk to me! From the owner to employees absolutely do not know crap about proper customer service. I ended up getting a burger after we left this terrible restaurant. BUYER BEWARE!! Stay away and save your $$$ and probably your health! Right at the start, as we walked in, the hostess barely said hello and was quick to let us know there is a 1 and a half hour time limit for our visit. This was on a Saturday evening, so we kind of understood, but not welcoming at all! We were put at a table, on an enclosed patio(?) directly beside another table, with little to no space between chairs. None of the waitresses wore masks. We overheard the table next to us ask if why the waitress wasn't wearing a mask. She said,"It's hot and humid and not mandatory!" Whaaaat??! And absolutely NO DISTANCING! Our waitress was talking right in our faces , without a mask. Food was just ok but definitely not worth the money. Mojitos were $14 , and couldn't taste any alcohol. The service was slow and, for lack of another term, dysfunctional! All the staff seemed like this was the last place they wanted to be. Almost angry. So strange! The last straw was when we were about to walk back through the restaurant to leave, as I was putting my mask back on, the hostess said, " It's ok, don't worry about your mask". With at least 20 people shuffling around together shoulder to shoulder, I couldn't believe she was actually discouraging wearing a mask!! Horrible - Will Never Go Again - Epic Disappointment What can I say? Hands down the worst dining experience and let down in the history of time. Came in with such high hopes, as on the surface, the decor and building looks amazing, they have live music on the back patio, I was expecting to be amazed. Turns out what was amazing, was how horrible the service could actually be. A friend and myself arrive and ask for a table for two, the restaurant is mostly empty except for two large groups, one on the back outdoor patio, and one inside. The women that greets us recommends out back, as that's where the DJ was, so we try, no tables, so have to come back in side. She seats us, but takes forever to come back to order our drinks, at least 15 minutes, so I go to the bar myself to order drinks. When I come back to the table with the drinks, the waitress seems almost annoyed I got drinks myself and asks "where did you get those?" and comments on how the guy at the bar is now going to complicate her bill. She then takes our food order, it's about 8:45pm at this point, we probably arrived around 8:30. It takes 1 hour from now for the food to arrive - Over this hour, she didn't check on us once. No do you want more drinks. No explanation for delay or apology. Nothing for one hour. Just serving drinks to the big group inside and chit chatting with people. At about 9:43pm my friend and I decide we had enough, and we're going to go settle up for our drinks and leave, we go to the bar, our waitress see's us, we explain we are leaving, now all of a sudden, she says its ready, and runs into the kitchen and immediately presents our orders. Makes me wonder how long they were ready. So, against our better judgement we decide to stay and eat. The food was pretty good, but not great. It is horrendously overpriced. I recognized this going in, but just hoped it would be really good. But I paid $22 for alright enchiladas that have no sides of any kind. My friend got 3 tacos - which also have no sides - and a very weak Piña colada, his bill was $37. It was at best $15-$20 worth of food and beverage at any sane price. We waited an hour to pay too much for food that took us 5 minutes to finish. When the waitress brought the bill, she finally apologizes / acknowledges the service was horrible, and explains the large groups and lack of staff. My friend inquires if we can get a discount of some sort and says "so what, half off?" This place is a vibe! The service is quick and friendly. My friends and I ordered a variety of dishes and everything was delicious! I ordered the ceviche which was was okay but my main was tacos al pastore--DELICIOUS! The prices are slightly higher than expected but quality of the food supports it. Based on the previous reviews, yes, the tip was included but we were a group of 8-so not unexpected. Yes, the place seems more crowded than it should've been. Yes, the safety protocols could be improved. Overall, I'm glad that I formed my own opinion of this restaurant. It was a fun evening! read more

On our way to our destination when we started to get hungry, found yo amp tacos on our GPS and decided to give it a try since we're fellow Mexicans. The place is tucked in and hard to find but the place is very cute and decorated very nicely. my boyfriend and I decided to get the Mexican burrito and holy was that amazing the pork took my straight back to my Mexican childhood. Where to even start... Horrendous would be an understatement. From the exterior, if it wasn't for the relatively full parking lot and gaggle of people smoking outside, you would have no idea the restaurant is open. The interior is cluttered and overwhelming. Most of the decor choices were tacky and overstated. There was some cool window art that I did enjoy. The service was frankly totally lost. We were in a larger group so they pushed two tables together, but did not remove any of the plates, cutlery or water glasses, so the table was incredibly cluttered! Most of the time no one knew which glass they were drinking from. Instead of clearing space they simply piled new dishes on top of dirty plates. I don't even know how to respond to that... The food and drinks were in-line with the service and decor. Not actually the WORST part about the restaurant, but definitely not a saving grace. We tried two cocktails, they were okay, but were likely just generic over-the-counter mixes; nothing fresh or exciting. For appetizers we tried the nachos and cheese quesadilla. The cheese quesadilla was a greasy, floppy mess. It's hard to believe you can mess that up. The choice of cheese was not ideal, as it did not melt well and tasted rubbery. The nacho plate was fine. But again, nothing special, perhaps just slightly above a bag of Tostitos and a jar of salsa from your local convenience store. For mains we tried the beef tacos and chicken fajitas. The chicken was overcooked, but the seasoning was okay. The beef was also not bad. The tortillas I suspect are store bought or just poorly made. They were rubbery and tasteless. For a Mexican taco restaurant your tortillas should be PERFECT! For dessert we got churros. I believe they were made fresh in-house. But, it likely would have been better had they bought them from a bakery pre-made. The texture was quite doughy, but I could not tell if it was undercooked or the custard/filling inside. After reading so many less than stellar reviews, i visited Yo Amos Tacos yesterday with low expectations and i was really hoping that i would be pleasantly surprised. Nope. The Good: - The restaurant itself is really nice. - Guacamole was good. Definitely the best thing i ordered. It was plain and simple, nothing out of this world, but good nonetheless. - The selection of hot sauces they bring to your table. The Bad: - The tacos. Which is really unfortunate when the name of the restaurant has the word "tacos" in it. I had the sampler of four tacos (beef, fish, chicken, pastor) and they were dry, boring, and falling apart. Even the delicious hot sauces couldn't save them. The tacos (albeit a decent size) were on the pricier side (about $5 a piece) which would be acceptable if they were delicious. Having used a groupon eased the pain of spending money on these tacos, but even at half price i wouldn't get them again. Would i return? No. For the love of food, get your damn tacos right! read more

Had lunch here today. The place looks really cool from the outside. There was no one there at around 2pm (not sure if we missed the rush or if people just come by in the evening). The guac and chips was really good. I think the guac needed salt though but overall it was a good sized portion. My boyfriend and I both ordered chicken enchiladas and shrimp enchiladas. They were both super flavourful and a good portion I think because I was full! The server was okay. I really liked the place inside. It was very Mexican and there were also nice big windows in the back with a sick view. Cool spot for sure! read more

I'm spoiled with fantastic Mexican food down town and Mexican food is my favorite. When I was given gift cards to try this place and the way it was described, I couldn't wait. Driving into the parking lot, I swear I was in Mexico. The façade is exactly the way I remember Mexico. It almost looks like someone grafitied the place with Mexican characters. Tiki torches were ablaze outside the front door and, the Latino music was loud. I was pumped! Inside, fantastic. My wife, myself and our 3 kids say in the back sun room. Perfect ambience. We ordered ceviche, guacamole, snapper and lobster tocos and, shrimp fajitas. This is where the disappointment came. The ceviche was obviously old as it was soggy and not very flavourful at all. No onions? Come on! The snapper was over cooked and came from less than fresh oil as it was dark. Ditto for the lobster, tough and chewy - over cooked. My kids enjoyed the fajitas. They were actually decent. I won't be returning. Too disapointing. read more
