We drove into what looked like a corner convenience store, did not see where to actually park, and the place looked extremely sketchy. Yi's is the smaller of the 2 Asian markets in town, but is packed with tons of items. Upon entering, there are aisles of snacks, candies, and frozen desserts. Then, a wall of drinks (tea bottles, canned sodas), and an extensive produce case. This includes napa cabbage, herbs, radish, and other veggies. There are also pickled vegetables, herbs, and seaweed in the case. Across is a case of frozen seafood. The longer aisles include an endcap with all things Japanese, including furikake and sushi ingredients. There is a frozen case along the wall with steamed buns, fish cakes, dumplings, frozen vegetables (like grated cassava/yucca), and desserts. On the aisle, there is every type of dried seaweed you can possibly imagine. There is another cold case along the back wall with different kinds of tofu, kimchi... There are aisles of canned vegetables, quail eggs, barbecued eel, shrimp paste...and then sauces galore, sesame oil, gochujang paste, soybean paste, soy sauce, ponzu, sukiyaki sauce, tempura sauce, okonomiyaki sauce, etc. There are many items to discover here and I am so glad this market is here! Amazing selection! Chinese, Japanese, and Korean products are a specialty. It's really surprising how much good stuff can be made to fit into such a seemingly small space. They have a great selection of rice (including GABA brown!) and hard-to-find frozen meats like black chicken and real pork belly. The owners are incredibly friendly, and always go out of their way to help. If something's not on the shelves, ask. There's probably some in the back :) It's our favorite go-to place for Asian products in the area. And they're always open -- I think there's only one day of the year when Yi's is closed. I've passed by the store a couple of times thinking it was just another corner convenience store. Little did I know that this tiny place has so much to offer. This place is also one of the reasons that made me change my view of Manhattan, KS, i.e. "it's really not that bad here." FYI, it's an Asian grocery store. Tiny as it is, it sure offers a lot and it's always well-stocked. (The best day to go is on a Tuesday afternoon because that's when you can get fresh vegetables.) Although it's mainly Korean, you can find ingredients for other Asian cuisines, e.g. Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, (yes) Malaysian, etc. The snacks are mostly Korean and Japanese. I usually skip the side dishes from the front fridge because they're mostly made in China (and they seem to use a lot of MSG). There are similar ones in the back fridge made in Japan or Korea which may be quite pricey but better. Most of the frozen goods I've bought didn't seem like it had been in the freezer for a long time either. The store may be small, but the products are neatly placed on the shelves and the aisles may be tight at times. That hasn't been a problem because most of the Asians going to the store wouldn't need much space to walk around anyway. Things may be a bit more pricey compared to what you could get in another store in the next town, but I'm happy with this place for now. Also, you can't use your credit card if you're spending less than $10, which is not a problem for me. The cashier is a Korean, but over time, her English has definitely gotten better. Yi's Oriental Market is probably the only place in Manhattan where you can find tamari soy sauce, bok choy, a couple mockmeats, and other non-mainstream Asian ingredients. This is a small store but it has some good produce (such as the aforementioned bok choy, as well as sprouts and beautiful fresh ginger) at extremely low prices. You can't beat the quality and prices here. They also carry some mockmeats in a can, like seitan, and maybe mock chicken as well. read more

Yi's Oriental market has been around Manhattan, KS for years. I used to come there as a little girl when my mom was attending Kansas State University. It is filled with interesting snacks, rice cakes, Korean wontons, and even an entire wall shelf of a different assortment of (Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese) noodles. Yi's also has Korean tables, rice cookers, and other Asian items of interest. They have everything you can want to create sushi, including high-quality dried nori that you cannot buy at the local grocery stores. Sometimes there will be a woman that comes in for the whole day, selling homemade Kim-bop, $5 for 12 rolls. I gave Yi's 5 stars because of the variety of food, furniture, and nick-nacks. Also Yi's is locally owned by a couple who work every day at that little store. The wife spends almost all of her free time attending to customers, while her husband puts away inventory. I applaud them for their hard work. Every place on the Internet that I look does not show their store hours, which is from 8:00am to 8:00pm, Monday through Sunday (as far as I know). read more

Yi's Oriental Market is adorable! So tiny but super neat and clean with tons of amazing food to buy. The front shelves have sweet candy and cookies to entice those unfamiliar with Asian flavors and the left side of the store has a super selection of ramen to attract college students. My favorite is the cooler stocked with fresh veggies and fruits. read more

This store was my saving grace in Manhattan. I get my giant jars of authentic kimchi, shin ramen, frozen dumplings, green tea, brown rice, appke cider vinegar, nori for sushi night, curry blocks, udon, and all other ingredients I need in my silly attempts to cook like my Korean mom. It's a small mom and pop type shop. The female owner has always been so kind and nice to me. She's always there, 7days a week, working hard at this thing called life, and I will dearly miss this store when I leave. It's no comparison to the super Asian stores in CA, but I'm so happy purchasing my soy sauce here instead of Hyvee. read more

Finally! A Korean store in Kansas that carries a decent selection of both Korean and other Asian foods. This store is small and blends into a neighborhood, not sticking out at all. I've passed it several times without giving this place a 2nd look, but ironically, while searching on yelp for a Korean grocery store, I discovered that Yi 's Oriental Market was the little building that I passed by many times, mistaking it for a ma and pa gas station or corner store. Anyways, this place carries a lot of the same stuff I would buy back home in Colorado Springs and Denver. Everything from the yummy little snacks to homemade Kimchi like my mom would make! Their selection of pre-made banchan is limited, but maybe that's because I visited on a Saturday afternoon and I'm sure the fridge was picked clean. I'll have to come back when I gather some of my ma's delicious Korean food recipes to buy the ingredients to replicate, since I live in J.C and I've been told that the Korean restaurants in this area are very limited! read more
