The worst hardware store in Kansas. They don't know what customer service is about. The store manager "Glenn" talks down to women. I and remodeling 10 houses and spending 20-30k on each house. They lost my business on all 9 houses because of their Sh....ty ways. Lazy workers, they don't want to communicate. They only want to communicate via computer. Well that might be why they don't know how to communicate because they have not been taught how to talk like a human and think like a human. Home Depot here I come! read more

Menards in Manhattan KS is run very well. Management runs their individual departments effectively and for the most part the staff has a good understanding of products or how to get the answer to questions they don't fully grasp what you need. The 'yard' has a ka'zillion sq foot of lumber so its rare that they not have what you're looking for. The 11% discount that they have pretty much been running non-stop makes a huge difference, (although I firmly believe Menard's should offer the savings onto a loadable plastic card instead of a small piece of paper that can easily be destroyed in the washing machine, faded, misplaced, or stolen in the mail). For a big box store with many moving parts, Menard's does a very good job. read more

Went in today to look at renting one of their "convenient" pick up trucks. The lady the front counter very rudely explained how to rent a truck and what stipulations were involved. We had enough money to cover all fees yet she just "didn't want us to have any surprises" and "make sure we could handle it". It very much felt like we were being spoken down to instead of being helped. U-haul at ace hardware was friendly while helping and actually wanted our business. Will not be looking for Menards help anymore. read more

Good morning! I'm a70 year old disabled black women. I visited Menards Friday to look at grills, shower heads and several other items. I was in a riding cart and had no problems with the employees in the bath department. When I was leaving the store I drove to the front to plug in the cart (trying to be helpful to the next person). The cashier Immediately came from behind the counter and asked to see my receipt. I thought...okay they're doing things like WalMart but, then she asked for my bag. I asked her why? She said I want to check it!! I said no! she grabbed it and would not let go! While I was still holding it! I said if I were you I'd let go 'cause someone might want to beat your ass...this is mine! She called in the manager said I was threatening her and five of them showed up. Big burly white men! I said it takes five of you to deal with me and five to have 1 brain! One of the managers then said that's right! I said I want my money back and was told looking in my bag is company policy! Now I'm not stupid...she thought I was stealing! Racial profiling?? She returned my things and I said did you find anything that wasn't paid for? Not one person said anything and not one person apologized! I will NEVER come back into your store...God bless your racist hearts! Very disappointed in Manhattan, KS with the good ole boys! read more

This has nothing to do with being understaffed due to covered. We know Menards is not suffering. The checker this morning rang an item two times and I came back to get money back on one that I didn't get. I'm waiting at the customer service counter for going on 8 minutes now and not a soul pain any attention to me .finally some nice young lady came by but she can't do anything so went to get a manager. Menards is part of a chain of hardware stores. Apparently, they're expanding, since this store is open and one in Topeka will be opening soon. Basically, they carry the normal stuff a hardware store carries, but they also have a small grocery section. The stores are quite large if you haven't figured that out. Came here a few days ago because I was in the area. Had a few items on sale I was looking at, but some of them weren't stocked. Others weren't quite what I was looking for. On the plus side, they do stock a lot of things. One thing I hate is they have a lot of items with rebates on them, but the rebates are all for store merchandise checks. The quality of many items is quite low, so you might do better to look around. The prices are cheap though. Staff is friendly and helpful. When I was there, there was more staff than customers, which isn't surprising for a weekday morning in summertime. Since I'm rarely in Manhattan, I doubt I would come in often anyways. The deals aren't worth the hour drive. But if you know what you're getting into when you come here, then you may or may not like it. Basically, you get cheaply made products cheap. But the grocery section is nice since it could cut down on a side trip if you only needed a few things from the grocery store. read more

Stopped in to check out the place while visiting relatives. Really liked the huge selection and prices. Can't wait for one to be built in my area as I think it will give the other big hardware stores a run for their money. Plus just seemed to have a bigger variety and that will have me coming back. read more

Way, way better than Home Depot. As far as quality, it's the same but the prices are better. I also LOVE the customer service at Menards. I get screwed over every time I go to Home Depot. Menards went out of their way to go find us a certain kind of screwdriver when Home Depot wouldn't even check for us to see if they have it in stock. Even though we were on hold for 10-15 minutes, the man on the phone went looking for it and even held it for us so that we could drive over and get it. I will never ever shop at Home Depot again!!!! read more

Every time i walk into this store i find something new, makes ya want to do something, selection is extremely nice. employees are always willing to help. with my wife says so many ideas so little time. I like the lay out better than the other stores but I still regularly shop them as each has their own quirks read more

I recently purchased a tool cabinet on sale at Menards in Manhattan, KS. Unfortunately, when I got the item home, it turned out to be damaged. Though I live 2 hours away from the nearest store, the very next day Menards hand delivered to my house a replacement tool cabinet for no cost! After dealing with the poor customer service and poor systems at Sears, Menards is a refreshing place to shop. Nice job, guys, I'm impressed. read more

Fan of Menards but need to retrain your clerks/cashiers on compassion. Was behind an older lady who was crippled and obviously, having some frustration issues. She could not get her card to work and instead of Laura (cashier) assisting her, she stood with her arms folded, staring off into space. The lady was extremely frustrated and then a cashier came by and "chuckled" and the lady asked her not to "laugh at me". When we got to our car the lady came over and apologized for holding up the line and then started crying and telling us she had lost 3 family members in a course of 25 days, something I heard her also tell the cashier. I am sure the lady was a "handful" to deal with; however, we never know what someone else is going thru. Just a small amount of help to the woman would have kept the situation from getting explosive. read more
