We got the Singaporean Slaw and the Ribs, and both were soo good. We left totally stuffed, and though the slaw was pretty pricey, it was really filling and honestly such an interesting flavour profile. My favourite though were the short ribs, cooked to perfection! We had a few cocktails too and they were so beautiful and delicious. The price tag is high but definitely worth it for a special occasion!

Lee is the one restaurant I look forward to every Summerlicious…read more One reason is that every year they create a completely new menu instead of reusing dishes from their regular menu. As an Asian fusion restaurant, I always come curious to see what new ideas the chef has come up with. The last two Summerlicious menus disappointed me a little--they felt a bit uninspired, with dishes like the vegetable curry and croquette. This year, however, the creativity is back, and I'd happily recommend Lee's Summerlicious menu again. Fried Wild Cod The crispy cod is served in an edible crispy rice basket, making it feel like sharing bread at the start of the meal. The fish is fried perfectly with a crisp exterior and moist, flaky interior. Paired with Thai sweet chili sauce, it's light, flavorful, and great for sharing. Gazpacho Picante A refreshing take on gazpacho. The avocado gives it a smoother texture, while the hint of spice adds another layer without overpowering the chilled tomato soup. Refreshing and a great appetizer. BBQ Jerk Pork Ribs Three generous ribs--almost a main course on their own. The meat is tender while still retaining a bit of bite, similar to the texture of slow-cooked jerk chicken. The jerk seasoning is excellent, coating every bite with rich, aromatic spices. Pan Roasted Salmon The salmon is beautifully cooked with a nicely caramelized exterior while remaining juicy inside. Each accompaniment brings something different: the olive tapenade is deeply savory, the parsnip purée is smooth and slightly sweet, the lima bean adds a creamy, nutty richness, and the lemon-tomato-pepper vinaigrette brightens everything with acidity and a gentle kick. Lima Bean Succotash Probably the prettiest dish on the menu--and also the most unusual. The lima beans and peas are cooked until tender without becoming mushy. The flavors are layered, but there's a subtle bitterness throughout. After asking the chef, we learned it's the natural flavor of lima beans and was intentionally preserved as part of the dish. Fried Organic Chicken The fried chicken is juicy and tender, reminding me of Japanese karaage. It comes with two fun sauces: one is rich and spicy with a hint of coconut, while the other is a sweet pineapple-lime mayo that pairs surprisingly well with the chicken. The pandan rice, however, was fairly ordinary. The desserts are still classic Lee--beautifully plated, but the flavors are more restrained. We tried the Rhubarb Almond Frangipane Tart, Lemon Mousse Panna Cotta (our favorite), and Strawberry Raspberry Monkey Bread. This year's Summerlicious reminded me why I fell in love with Lee in the first place.

We ordered the bulgogi dumplings, turnip cakes, miso mushroom udon carbonara, mushroom black garlic spaghetti, and the red curry chicken rigatoni. Everything was genuinely great, especially for the price. For a spot so close to the clubs, it's an awesome place to grab food during a night out. We had someone in our group who's gluten-free, and they were happy to sub rice noodles into one of the dishes. It was thoughtful of them to accommodate, but the rice noodles soaked up the sauce too much and clumped together, making it hard to eat. Still, overall the food and experience were solid, and I'd definitely go back.

It can get a bit loud in the restaurant but we had no problem hearing each other.

I've been meaning to check out DaiLo for a while after only hearing amazing things about it…read more The hospitality really impressed me. The general manager and server warmly greeted us and checked up on us several times. The way they took care of us throughout the meal felt like a friend who was personally hosting us in their home. They also took the time to really explain each dish and how to best enjoy it, which I appreciated. Overall, the food definitely didn't disappoint. As someone who is sensitive to salt, I was most impressed by how every dish was perfectly seasoned (not over-seasoned with salt, sugar, and msg). Each dish tasted carefully crafted to let the ingredients shine. Betel Leaf - super fresh and aromatic flavours, really wakes up the taste buds. This is a small bite though so it's gone quick. Mushroom Dumplings - my understanding is that this is a seasonal vegetarian item but it deserves a place on the permanent menu. This was hands-down the best dish of the night. I will dream about and salivate over this dish. The brown butter sauce on the mushroom filling in the dumpling (almost like a ravioli), and truffle + cheese... my gosh, it's a flavor explosion! So decadent and rich, and seasoned to perfection. We licked the plate clean - it was THAT good. Sweet & Sour Pork Hock - the pork was so tender and soft. Again, seasoned well and very balanced. The pickled radish and peppers cut through the fat nicely between bites. I wish there were more of those radish pieces! Octopus Tacos - really smoky and well-cooked octopus, and interesting textures! I was not expecting the shell/wrap to be a vegetable! I enjoyed it and the dish felt lighter/healthier. Big Mac Bao - honestly, save your money on this one. It was good but it's exactly what you'd expect? Tastes like a Big Mac with a Bao bun rather than a regular bun. I just don't understand why someone would order this for $11 and it's pretty small. Duck Bokkeum - this was interesting! As a Korean, I appreciated the Korean twist. The duck was cooked textbook and everything was well-executed. I just don't think I'm a smoked duck person. I like Peking duck. I felt like the smokiness was a little overpowering for my own preferences and I got a little tired of the flavor after several bites. That said, the vegetables on this dish are superb and add great dimension and textures! If you like smoked duck, try it! If you're not a fan, save the $62 and spend it on something else! Aloe Sake Sorbet - a beautiful finish and palate cleanser to a wonderful meal. Very refreshing. You can taste both the sake and the aloe. PARKING NOTE: There's a garage right across the street on the same side as DaiLo that offers very affordable parking. Would recommend parking there!

With prices of an upscale dining restaurant, the service didn't feel like it matched up; it was fairly mediocre. Food was a bit of a hit or miss for us too.. Shrimp toast: fun, good texture, could taste the oiliness stronger than I expected. Paired well with the emulsion. Fun guo: super tasty, quite greasy though. I typically don't order fun guo but the texture was a delight to eat. Pork & crab siu mai: this felt like it lacked identity, not really sure I saw the vision. It just felt like curry on a siu mai lol Iberico cha siu: beautiful cut, perfectly tender, good savouriness, no complaints. R&D fried rice: my biggest letdown. Maybe my expectations were set to high. For a house special, I would expect a solid crowd-pleaser. Having each bite feeling mostly like 'crunch' is not what I think of as fried rice nor a favourite for most people. My ideal fried rice focuses on the grains of rice, with substantial bite and flavour in each spoonful. The flavour was most definitely there, don't get me wrong but it was extremely hard to eat more than a bowl. The redeeming qualities were in the flavour and cute little mushroom garden concept. If they had maybe 2x the amount of rice for the ratio of toppings and crunch, I would say this is a delicious and near perfect fried rice. Not bad, but a hefty price tag for a meal that I had really high hopes for.

I was very happy with the blend of flavors which worked harmoniously. All the dishes were well executed and innovative on the palette, so this was a meal that was well worth the visit. Crispy Sprouts Salad - Fibermaxxing salad with leaves two ways; the crispy brussels add a smoky char, while the mixed greens add a fresh bite. Kingston Calamari - Intriguing batter that is crisp on the outside, but then quickily becomes eggy and soft on the bite; love the cocktail sauce pairing that adds a subtle Jamaican heat. Jamaican Oxtail - Deliciously tender oxtail that falls right off the bone to go with the rice, the chive and fried garlic are a nice subtle garnish. Popcorn Shrimp Fried Rice - Good execution of the dish, which has that heaty smokiness infused into the rice from the wok; the chinese broccoli adds texture two ways, while the tobiko adds a delightfully petite saline burst to the bite. Belly Buss Platter Sides - In addition to the above, there was a side of a loose, mayo-forward traditional cabbage slaw that was very nice to balance the heaviness of the rest of the meal, and the spice that was coming from the smashed cucumber salad. Then, corn bread paired well with the jerk butter and herb garlic spread. Appetizers: Rock Shrimp, Fatty Tuna Nigiri, Crispy Rice Tuna Entrée: Jidori Chicken Drinks: Sangria, Champagne Dessert: Yuzu Citrus The rock shrimp was delicious. We loved the sauce it was tossed in. My friend is not usually a shrimp fan but she polished it off for me. The fatty tuna nigiri was great, as expected, and the crispy rice tuna was phenomenal. The Jidori chicken was delightful. We loved the sauce, and the mashed potatoes were pillowy. I did not have the sangria but my friend said it was the best she had ever had. The yuzu citrus dessert came with strawberry gelato and cookie crumbs. The gelato was not overly sweet and the yuzu was perfectly tart. They also put a little "Reunited" note on the dessert plate, which we both thought was such a sweet touch. Definitely pricey, but definitely worth it. Recommended it to my Toronto friends, I really want to go back and get that king crab rice.
