We didn't read the reviews before stopping. BIG mistake. We ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer, which we never got. For dinner, we ordered steak shish-kabob. It came with a salad, which was a pile of head lettuce, a few slices of red onion, one (ONE!) cherry tomato, all drowning in ranch dressing. The meal also came with beans (bland), a baked potato (plain but they sent sour cream and butter), an overcooked ear of corn, and a slice of cornbread that was sweet but only a 2-bite size. As for the shosh-kabob, the veggies (onion and green pepper) were charred and flavorless, and the steak, though cooked properly, was tough. I would suggest that you go to the fast food place down the street instead. read more

Unlike other reviews, I thought service was good. My family of 5 did have a large bill for the quality. The steaks were beautifully seared and large but a bit on the chewy side. This was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. Don't be fooled by the charming outdoor facade. The prices were absurd given the quality was that of a frozen dinner. The steak was tough and over cooked, the ribs were chewy with no flavor, the "salad" was literally a bowl of iceberg lettuce with a couple of red onions scattered in, and the beans had zero flavor. The best thing on the plate was the baked potato. That's really saying something a bland baked potato was the best thing. But I guess how do you screw up a potato. They advertised hours open until 10, we came at 8 and were met with a hand to our face saying, "No food," while there were people eating at tables. I leaned over to my family and said guess we are going somewhere else, she proceeded to say, "Okay bye." Nudged us out the door. Definitely do not recommend as horrible service and 0 cleanliness with dirty menus spread out across the front counter. If you are looking for quality steakhouse dinner near the grand canyon, this is not the place to go. Atmosphere was good. Service was ok, salad was fairly fresh, ranch dressing was mediocre, bake potatoes were just ok but the remaining food was not good at all. It was not appealing, starter fried mushrooms, corn on cob, and onion rings were all over cooked on the outside and mushy on the inside. Both our Pepsi and Dr Pepper sodas were flat, no seltzer at all. Steak had no taste. Pepper shaker was even bad, nothing came out. I gave verbal critic and feedback. We stopped and ate here after spending the day at the Grand Canyon. It was a fun, kitschy place to get some food and drinks after a long, hot day of hiking. You're not going to get the world's best food here, but what you will get is very friendly service and big portions of comfort foods at a decent price. The food could definitely have been seasoned a lot better but it was fine overall. The corn bread was outstanding. I could've eaten that all day. My family and I had ordered 2 sirloin steaks and a kabab, and one of the steaks was cooked well done when asked to be cooked medium well, the other steak was fine but the kabab had spoiled vegetables and the steak was cooked different in every part, at some times the steak was as hard as a rock to bite through, the service was fair and the food got out relatively quick and the only nice thing they did was that they took off the money for the overcooked sirloin steak but we still had to pay an absurd amount for two meals, this place is just a tourist trap and would not make any money otherwise. read more

One of the best steaks and meals I've ever had. Such a live and happening atmosphere right when you walk in. The table clothes looks just like they were made there. Heard rumors of them not liking Asian people but that's far from right. They loved me the second I walked in and even gave us special seating in the back corner from everyone else. Food was average at best. Service was horrible. I ordered Tortilla Salad (same as a taco salad), which is on the entree menu. Entree heading says ALL entrees come with cornbread, menu items with a * come with choice of other (typical) sides, such as fries, salad, etc. When my taco salad comes, I politely asked where the cornbread was... she said it didn't come with it and walked away before I could protest. When she reappeared a few minutes later, I explained that their menu says it does come with it. She literally lost her patience, raised her voice, and told me I was wrong and left again. We're now all sitting there in stunned silence. I'm seated facing away from the server's station, but the people I was there with tell me she's standing there GLARING AT ME LOOKING MAD. I mean, WTF? She's taking a really hard stand over CORNBREAD. She comes back again a few minutes later and asks how everything is, I said "would be better if I had the cornbread your menu says comes with my meal." My whole table is laughing now at how ridiculous the whole thing is. She wound up bringing me the tiniest piece of cornbread I've ever seen. We were tourists on a once in a lifetime trip to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, so there's no chance we're ever going back, but in a town with very few dining options, I'd look elsewhere for dinner out. I wish I could give less than a one star rating. It was snowing outside and the heat wasn't even on. The food was expensive, dry, bland, and just simply not good. I would've gotten a better burger at the Wendy's that is nearby, and the others I was with said they would've preferred their own personal pizza from Pizza Hut instead of spending their money on the steak here. The only good restaurant in Tusayan is Plaza Bonita and that's stretching it. (Coming from a resident seasonal employee) Just have a cheat meal and get your family some pizza. You'll regret eating at this place and I've never made a Yelp review before, but thought I should save some others the disappointment and maybe some money at the same time. read more

One of the worst places we ate at while visiting the Grand Canyon. Even the atmosphere was depressing. It was busy during the weekend, but I don't know why we didn't like it here. Even where we sat, we could smell someone smoking nearby. Also, whatever you do, do not order teh rattlesnake appetizer. You've been warned. When the dish came out, all we got were three measly pieces of breaded snake. The breading made up a majority of what you got. What a rip off! So not worth the money. The atmosphere was fine, but the food was bad and overpriced. We were made to share the salad that came with each of the meals we ordered. The tomatoes in it were shriveled and it was clear it was a prepackaged bagged salad. The corn on the cob with our meal was clearly the frozen Green Giant mini corns that you microwave. The baked potato was very hard and not fluffy. The cornbread served for two was about two bites of bread for each of us. When we asked for more, we were told it would be an additional charge. Our chicken had many tough pieces and the two we were served looked identical, like they were from some sort of mass produced option. The baked beans had so sauce or flavoring and instead were in a very watery oily solution. All this plus two of their cheapest beers was $60. Gratuity was automatically included and we were asked if we wanted to "leave a tip" (not specifying it would be additional) after ringing out. I have no idea why this place has gotten such poor reviews from Yelpers. The food is good, even very good, and the prices are a great value, *especially* considering how isolated this place is, and the fact that it's right next to the GC. One would expect tourist-trap crap food and price gouging, but we got decent entrees *with* a side salad (which was mostly iceberg, admittedly), baked potato, small bowl of chili, half-cob of corn and large shortening biscuit, which were a lovely surprise, as none of us had seen included sides mentioned on the menu. Also, their home brew ("Rattlesnake") was fruity and delicious. Entrees: 'Cowboy' steak: 4 stars (Very good.) Shish kebab: 3.5 stars (Good, but 2 of the meat pieces were a tad well-done, even though I'd ordered medium.) Ribs: 5 stars. (Awesome. As good as any ribs I've had in the Bay Area for $15) Given the location and the logistics involved in keeping good food around, I think this place is great, and should have a much higher average rating. read more

Worse service and bland food ever. 3 waiters ignored us when we asked to order. Our waiter hated his job, the hostess said all the waiters are lazy and the steaks were bland and tasteless. We were visiting the Grand Canyon and Needed a place to grab some dinner. They start off with a salad and a piece of corn bread. The salad tasted days old with no crunchy lettuce and dressing poured all over the top of it. I ordered the half slab of ribs that came with beans for the table, corn on the cob and a potato wrapped in tin foil .. the only edible thing on my plate was the potato wrapped in tin foil. The beans were cold and had no taste, the corn was very soggy and not fresh tasting at all and the ribs tasted so dry with a nasty after taste. The server was kind but didn't listen to anything that was said and did whatever he wanted when it came to bringing us things. I would NOT EVER RECOMMEND this place to anyone!!!!!!!! On our way into the Grand Canyon we stopped off at "The Steakhouse". That was a big mistake, to say the food down the street at McDonalds would be insulting to McDonalds. First, the place appears to be heated only by the fireplace at the end of the restaurant so we ate with our coats on. The service was all but nonexistent, the food was very low quality and overpriced, the rest rooms were dirty and freezing cold, colder than the 45 degrees outside. To add insult to the entire miserable experience they automatically add a 15% gratuity to all charges, regardless of the size of the party, we were a party of 3. I am going to add a picture of my medium rare stake that came out burnt for reference. Do yourself a favor, go across the street to RP's gift shop and deli. A tip: go to this restaurant with your lowest expectations, than it will be 'okay' ;) we ordered the local Grand Canyon beer, which was nice, the cowboy steak and the T-bone steak. Both were cooked medium and medium-rare as wished and the taste was not that bad. The quality of the meats are not great, they had a lot of pieces of fat and muscles (don't know how to call it in English). Nevertheless we couldn't understand the Mexican waiters properly and the service could have been better, but that wasn't also a very bad thing. What really disappoint us was the fact they priced our consumed drinks on the bill higher than what was mentioned on the drink menu! During a road trip we came to stay the night in this small town and arrived early evening. All I had to hear was that this place served rattlesnake and I was sold! Not that I actually ordered it. While it was on my foodie bucket list, the server advised that I was better off ordering something else. "But doesn't it just taste like chicken?" I asked. he said yes, then explained that rattlesnake is full of small bones made of cartilage "Like fish" and that it is a pain in the rear to eat. Oh. yeah, never mind. Instead, I ordered the chicken wings and - Voila! - they tasted just like chicken, sans the cartilage. My friends ordered steak dinners, which looked equally good, but mine was great and cost quite a bit less. I was traveling with 2 non drinkers so I had 2 DD-er's which meant I got to order drinks and not worry about driving. Of course, our hotel was walking distance away, had they decided to order a few drinks like I did. While this may somewhat be a tourist trap, I was glad to be trapped and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the crazy wild-west-ish ambiance. read more

Rarely do I write reviews, but I felt compelled to warn people of this establishment. I must say that they were very accommodating of our large party especially during this time of covid. The down side was that there was no social distancing of any sort. Tables were seated right next to each other. Hind sight we should have walked out. Their customer service was also terrible. One of our steaks were over cooked and was brought to the attention of the waiter. The waiter then went on to dispute our claim. SMH. Now on to the food. I ordered the "t-bone" steak. The problem was that the filet side of the t-bone was literally just one bite!!! Everyone's steak was tough and definitely under seasoned. I felt like I had to saw away at my steak just to get a bite. We even had to put sticks of butter and add salt and pepper to season. It was absolutely terrible and over priced. read more

I ordered a small ribeye steak dinner. The salad came out in a big bowl for us to share. It was nice. The meal was ok. My steak had a "wang" to it like it had lighter fluid on it or something. The baked potato was good. I was somewhat disappointed with my meal. My Hubble got the T-bone steak dinner and it was delicious. After a long day exploring the Grand Canyon we needed a bite to eat. We parked in the pizza parking lot with intentions of going there but when we got out of the car we smelled what we thought was about to be some really good bbq. WRONG. This place was god awful. The workers were so rude. ALL of them. The food was very overpriced (for no reason because it was absolutely awful) and gratuity is automatically included in the ticket no matter the size of the party. So, your server can be awful, never check on you, and be rude and STILL get a great tip because the tip is included no matter what. Which is probably why every worker there finds it okay to be as rude as they were. It's not like they have to be kind to make their money.. they automatically get it, a SCAM. We told some people walking in on our way out to turn around because of how awful it was. The food was poorly seasoned. I did enjoy the appetizer but, definitely not worth the $150 that we paid. Terrible! My daughter asked for the cow girl, filet mignon. She thought it smelled like cow manure. I smelled it and sure enough it did! She didn't eat it. I mentioned it to the wait staff, who never came around to ask how our food was, until she asked if we were all set and ready for the check. The waitress said that it tasted like that because it's grilled over an open flame. I said, my sister and brother in law own a restaurant in Texas and grill over an open flame of mesquite wood and the meat never smells like the barn it came from. The waitress very politely explained that it's because of the different kind of wood that gives it that taste. She offered 1/2 off the dish but because I asked for a military discount (which was less) I guess she felt she'd give me that instead. FYI, our fried appetizer (which I didn't think could be screwed up) of zucchini, mushrooms, potato skins and fries were not seasoned and were definitely overcooked. The fries were powder. The only dipping sauce is the only salad dressing, RANCH. The corn was over cooked and the baked potato didn't come with anything but sour cream. The beans were tasty because they were seasoned canned beans. I mentioned our experience to a local person after our dinner and they said that the other, OTHER place is the only place that they recommend! Honestly deserve better than the average 2-star. We (2 adults / 2 kids) got seated on a Friday evening in 10', service was quick and everyone's steak was good and cooked as requested. Not the fanciest restaurant on earth but our experience was much better than expected considering the poor reviews.
