I stupidly ordered a chicken souvlaki for Gavin and paid for it before I realized they have a kids' menu. I ordered the gyro for myself, of course. I can eat a gyro every single day for the rest of my life. Service was very distant and cold. I was taken aback by it because the guy was super friendly w/ the guy that ordered after me. Sure they know each other but the place was empty and I wasn't a difficult customer. What gives? This would have been a 5 easily but took a star down because of the shoddy service. I live up the street from Yiassoo and i don't know why it took me so long. Okay, let's start of with the falafel. It's is hard to find a place that makes the perfect falafel. The problem is that the texture with most falafels is pasty, heavy, dry and sometimes mushy. With that being said, Yiassoo makes GREAT falafels. It's perfectly crispy on the outside, light, fluffy, almost crumbly in the inside but still remains very moist. Generous portion size, especially the side salad. But hey I'm not complaining. I used to come here all the time when I worked nearby and just kind of forgot about the place until a friend reminded me. And shame on me for that, I was missing out. Great food. Everything. Even the not-necessarily Greek things, such as the really great french fries. I had a gyro, which is served in a freshly made, puffy hot pita and comes with a bright, fresh Greek salad and aforementioned fries. The food is always consisent here. I usually just get the gyro sandwich. The meat is always nicely marinated and tender. It may not look that big but it is very filling. It's a simple sandwich but the execution is just perfect. There's cucumber yogurt to complement the meat and there's chopped tomatoes and onions. The bread is fluffy. I know they have other items here but I always gravitate towards the gyro and have never regreted the decision. My friend ordered a chicken souvlaki. This review is SO delayed but better late than never! The first time I tried Yiassoo, I got the gyro and wasn't a huge fan because I don't like lamb. The next time I went, I got the Chicken Souvlaki plate and FELL IN LOVE. The chicken is kind of dry compared to other restaurants, but I love the other things I get with the souvlaki. It comes with chicken, rice or fries, pita, and salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, green bell peppers, olives, red onion, and feta cheese drizzled with a light dressing). The rice is always fluffy and the pita is nice and soft. Portion is big and makes you feel like you're getting your money's worth! If you like feta cheese, definitely try the greek fries!!!!!!! I ordered the 1/2 chicken, although a small chicken, half is a LOT of food. It is very moist, soft, taste good, the broil is put into a small cup, after I removed the oil on top, drinking it is very rich and tasty, yet not over salted. So it is perfect for me. I like the salad to have more sourness to it, but it suits my wife very much. The rice is soft and moist, no oil in them which I like it best (compared to Mexican rice which has too much oil). On the road to the coast and travelling with kids, we were in need of some quick meals that wouldn't break the bank but are not the typical unhealthy fast food fare. Yiassoo came rated highly on Yelp and fit all of the above requirements and wasn't too far from the freeway. The building Yiassoo calls home looks like one of the old Taco Bells; modified Greek style. The inside is very simple and clean, with wall decor not getting in the way or being overbearing. The service is at the counter, both order and pickup. We ordered Gyro sandwiches, Greek fries, and kids chicken skewers. The prices are reasonable for both the quality and the quantity of food. Gyro meat was fresh and soft, and mixed in with tomatoes, onions and tzatziki perfectly. Yiassoo has a real winner right here! The Greek fries (olive oil, feta cheese, spices) were solid but slightly under cooked in few places which made them a bit soggy. If they crisped the fries a bit more, I'd definitely consider coming all the way to Cupertino just for the fries. Kids chicken skewers were also nice and moist and came with fries. These are surely to fill the little ones tummies! If we find ourselves in this part of the South Bay again and need a quick and delicious meal, Yiassoo will surely be one option to consider. I admit, I don't come here nearly as much as I should. I just don't order gyros as much as I do falafels, which means I always end up at Vivi's instead. I've been here a few times and the gyros NEVER disappoint. Thick tender cuts of meat and fresh veggies are stacked on a warm toasted pita. The gyros here are very very good. They really stack the thing. Now some places do full wraps, while many other places like Yiassoo serves them almost like a taco (which is also the traditional way of making it in Greece). Pricing is fairly reasonable. The staff members are nice. There's not much interaction, but they're nice at the counter. There is no other service, please bus your own table. Parking shouldn't be an issue, as there's a lot behind them with plenty of parking. I would recommend this place, and I'll come back from time to time. One of the better gyros we've tried in the Bay Area, and a pretty decent lunch spot in Cupertino! A few coworkers and I visited Yiassoo yesterday for lunch, and we got there around 12:15-12:30 (i.e. the busiest time of the day). It can get a little crowded there during lunch time, but we went anyway because we were craving some gyros. It was our second time visiting Yiassoo for lunch and we had about the same type of experience. I ordered the gyros plate again for $9.95. It comes with a generous portion of fries (you can choose rice instead of the fries if you want), and a greek salad as well. The beef/lamb gyro itself is enormous. It's a generous portion of beef with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, and a few onions. Yesterday when we went, we all thought that the meat inside was a little dry, or at least drier than the last time we went. The pita on the gyro, though, is always terrific. It's warm, fluffy and toasted. It's the best part about the gyro itself. The tzatziki sauce isn't bad. It's chunky with the cucumbers in it, but it can be hit or miss sometimes. I remember it being a lot better the first time we went (about 3-4 months ago). The only other legitimate Greek restaurant we've tried in the Bay Area is in downtown San Jose at a place called Nick The Greek (NTG). I would say that NTG gets the nod in terms of which gyro is better. The portions at Yiassoo, though, are enormous. With the fries and the greek salad, it's definitely a great meal for about $11 (including tax). Just make sure you don't have a ton of meetings after you have lunch here. You might pass out. As for the service, it took a while for our orders to come out and the people who work there aren't as nice as the staff at NTG. But ehhh, we didn't go here for great table service. Just love this place. Given all the challenges with the COVID-19 Shelter In Place order - Yiassoo is taking orders via Grubhub which is nice and faster for orders to go. My 88 year old mother loves their gyro with a side of onion rings. As she can't go out - I put in the order for her and did the picked it up - along with getting a gyro for myself :) The order was ready when promised and when I got it to my mom's house it was still hot, fresh, and delicious. This is one of my fav spots to eat in Cupertino and they do make great Greek food. They have cute little spots with shade for outdoor eating which is perfect during the COVID pandemic. I've been there many times and I particularly enjoy their Gyro plate - the pita has a lovely fluffy chewy texture with a slight crunch from the grilled base, carved gyro meat is packed with flavor, I usually get it with the rice because the flavored rice goes well with the whole dish and the side salad is a refreshing balance to the meal. It's a small little place, you can either dine in or take out. The lady that was in the front that was taking order was super helpful and super nice. She answered all my questions (because i don't eat Mediterranean very often) and she was so patient with me. She didn't make me feel dumb or anything just very thoughtful and kind. After seeing all of the hype I think I was a bit deflated...so this goes to show that reviews come in all shapes and sizes, and you gotta dig deeper to find out which ones agree with your own opinion! Anyways...I've passed by Yiassoo countless times just driving to and from places, but I never went in!! The place is off of the busy Saratoga-Sunnyvale main street, and you'd never know that they had lots of parking if you actually turned in to order something here! It's in the area by SmokeEaters and Taco Bell, so there's lots of cuisine selections for everyone! You can't miss Yiassoo though, with its blue and white chapel-looking structure. It's a Cupertino icon, almost... I got to-go for a late lunch around 3PM, and there were still a few people sitting around in the crowded and snug eating space. Now I know why people highly recommend sitting outside--you don't feel claustrophobic being trapped inside the stuffy room. I ordered the veggie gyros, and it was brought out within 5-8 minutes! There aren't any sides with the gyros, but the massive gyros will definitely be enough for a solid lunch meal. Maybe it was because I got it to-go, but the marinated veggies got a bit soggy and drippy as I continued biting into the pita bread, but it was deliciously savory and fresh! No complaints on the flavor :) Make sure to take a peppermint before you walk out those doors--don't let the feta get a hold of your Greek-ified breath!! I'll definitely be back if I'm super desperate for Greek food--maybe I'll try the veggie platter or something. Gyros here are really good for really decent prices! The regular gyros sandwich is sufficiently big for $6.95, but if it's not enough, they have the "super" version for $9.20, which comes with extra meat and feta cheese. In both cases, the meats are delicious and juicy! The tzatziki sauce was addicting (and nicely chilled) and the pita bread was thick and very filling. Their feta cheese was really good (in the gyros, it comes as a stick) and I wish I had ordered the fries (the pictures of this are drool-inducing)! Yiassoo is more of a take-out place, as you order and pay first, then pick up your food (all on disposable dishware), or you can order to-go ahead of time (via phone or online). There aren't many seats inside, but there are also a few tables outside if the weather permits. I waited quite a bit to get my food even though there were only a few parties in the restaurant, so when I come again, I would probably order ahead to save time. The menu was really overwhelming but after a good 10 mins of staring at the menu I finally ordered the combination plate and my dad ordered the chicken salad. It took quite a bit of time to get out food but we came during the lunch rush so it was understandable. The combination plate was very filling for just one person. It came with a salad, pita bread, rice and four meats: lamb, chicken, pork, and beef. The meats were a bit more dry than I expected but it was edible. I enjoyed their sauces very much. Yiassoo is a hidden gem in the heart of Cupertino! It's small so you might miss it but you can spot it by its white and blue exterior. Yiassoo is really what got me into Mediterranean food many years ago and although I've tried other Mediterranean places since, I always have an itch to go back to Yiassoo. The gyros sandwich is my favorite item at Yiassoo. The meat is perfect and the sauce and tomatoes enhance the flavor. It's really good! I recommend asking for the bottles of sauce to add some more flavor (there's a spicy sauce if you like spicy food). It's very filling and I feel so satisfied after!
