Came with crispy Chinese donut in the middle with some pork floss. Good item for some carbs. Option to add protein in it. Egg or beef. Soymilk was ok. Don't get me wrong I love gluten and bread but this just isn't the type of breakfast I naturally gravitate toward. Overall, everything tasted a bit bland and one-dimensional. I was especially excited to try the rice roll (subbed with purple rice), but I really wish the rice had been softer. The pork floss was the only flavor that really stood out, and unfortunately the rest of the dish felt pretty muted. I also tried the sesame balls and sesame bread, which were decent but nothing particularly memorable. The peanut milk wasn't really for me either it was far too thick and didn't go down very smoothly. Overall, it's not the kind of breakfast I'd personally crave again, but I'm still glad I tried it. I've been wanting to try this rice roll since I've seen it on TikTok! And it was pretty good I wish they weren't out of sausage so I could've added sausage to it. But it was very flavorful. The store had a section of refrigerators that had so many amazing taiwanese foods for purchase from dumplings to bao buns. So many things I wanted to buy them all. Wow, I believe this place is under new management. I visited today because my son has been craving Taiwanese sausage rice. There is usually an unpleasant female employee there but today we were met with another female employee, very friendly and hospitable. We dined in and sat at the booth and were brought menus. I looked at the menu and it looked fairly new and prices appeared to have gone down. I was expecting smaller portions but when our food came out, I was delighted to see the generous portions of taiwanese sauce and rice. I also ordered 2 taiwanese sausages on the side and one of their steamed taiwanese tamales with egg. We enjoyed our food and service was great. Food was fresh, tasty , sausages with the perfect sear on the outside and succulent pieces of fat. We were not hassled for a tip and leaving a tip wasn't mentioned at all , just mentioning this because I read other reviews that had a bad experience. Maybe they turned a new leaf? So for starters, get a fan tuan (rice roll), egg omelette, and savory soy milk. They're what make the breakfast experience. If you got room for anything else, go for it. The rice roll is nicely packed with fried dough, pork floss, and picked vegetables so I got no complaints. The egg omelette is so light and savory I could eat 2 of these if I could. The garlic soy sauce it comes with really elevates the experience. Lastly, the savory soy milk was my fiance's favorite. It looks messy but it's just comfort food through and through. It was not good. I got the purple rice roll, the beef roll, & soy/peanut milk. I absolutely hated all three items. It's definitely not for me. Maybe for others but definitely not for my liking. I've had beef rolls at other food establishments & I enjoyed them but not here. The wrapping on the beef roll was soggy at the bottom & the rest tasted stale. The meat was poor quality. It was my second visit here and boy was it DRASTICALLY different! I was unaware that you could customize your rice roll with so many things! You can add in a stewed egg or a scallion egg, you can even add in beef and pickled mustard. Originally when I had the normal rice roll, the portions just didn't fit well, but after adding other items, the rice roll was near perfection!! The only downside is the rice was a bit mushy that day. The wonton noodle soup blew me out the water! I had very mild to low expectations as wonton noodle soup is normally just a comforting soup, but I LOVED the flavors in this one. The noodles were like a combo of udon and ramen texture/taste. We were seated quickly, and the staff is so amazing here and so attentive. We ate some authentic, delicious Taiwanese cuisine, including green onion, pancake with egg, oyster pancakes, salty soy milk with Chinese doughnut, pan, fried dumplings, cold, sweet soy milk, peanut soy milk, and sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf. Was craving Taiwanese breakfast so I stopped by here in the morning . The prices increased so much wow, $7 for one thing. I ordered the egg omelet, beef sandwich, and salty rice roll. All very delicious just how I remembered it. I believe they have specific bfast deals on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. Their lunch entrees look good and are priced reasonably too, I'll come back next time for it ! Being Taiwanese, I LOVE that there's a Taiwanese breakfast spot in my town. It's our easy go-to. We call in our order, and then run in to pick up, with the car engine still on. The ladies there are super efficient and the food is made fresh after you order. Our go-to dishes: rice roll with purple rice and egg added, radish cakes and radish cakes with egg, tortilla with egg, pork belly steam bun sandos, sliced beef shank in flakey sando, peanut/rice milk, soy milk (cold sweet, hot non-sweet and salty) and the long fried Chinese donuts! The sweet garlic sauce is fire! I put it on everything, but it's really for the radish cakes. They also have prepped foods or frozen dumplings to purchase for cooking at home. They are great for dinner or lunch when you don't feel like cooking. We get the radish cake log to fry up at home or the frozen leek and pork dumplings to boil up at home. This is my weekly breakfast at this point -- authentic Taiwanese food is hard to come around, and this location in Chino is great. The doughnuts come at around $3 each (pictured is like half of one), and my preferred way to eat it is with soymilk but some people use soy sauce and others eat it in different ways! The food here is nothing short of exceptional, which is why it's unfortunate that my rating is so low. The issue is the tipping culture at this location. It's essentially a quick-service restaurant, yet the staff strongly pushes for tips, even though tipping is optional. On one visit, we believe more tip may have been added than what we originally wrote when paying by card. We intentionally left a minimal tip since it's a quick-service sit-down setup, but when we checked our credit card statement later, the charge appeared higher than what we had written. Because we enjoy the food, we decided to give the place another chance and paid in cash the next time. However, at the end of the interaction the staff again asked us to leave a tip on the table. If a business expects full-service tips, then it should provide full service. At a quick-service establishment where customers essentially handle most of the process themselves, being pressured for tips feels inappropriate. For comparison, places like McDonald's provide a similar level of service and do not expect tips!!! Again, the food is great, but the uncomfortable pressure around tipping makes the overall experience less enjoyable. read more

Came with a couple of veggie side dishes and egg. Tried the daikon cake and the omelette as well. They were just okay. The pancake was a bit too thin for me to justify the price. So maybe I wont't get this next time. Ambiance wise, the place looked like any normal canteen. Once you enter, there's a table that has some pastries, a huge refrigerator that has some uncooked / cooked items. It also has a number of drink choices like milk tea and soy milk. The counter has some baked and fried goodies too. In terms of tipping, which I read in the comments both here and in google. i didn't really mind. For my bill of 50.00, I did tip cash and placed it in the jar. Considering that I ordered to go, they didn't really make a big deal out of it. A good restaurant experience isn't just about the quality of the food--I believe it's a combination of food quality, ambiance, and customer service. I hate that I am giving this restaurant 2 stars due to their poor customer service, specifically regarding their tipping policy. I understand the challenges business owners face in the current economy. With rising inflation, it's natural for businesses to raise their prices, and for customers to meet these new costs. However, the tipping culture has gotten out of hand. At the end of the day, tipping should remain voluntary. Don't get me wrong--I do tip. I am not promoting anti-tip policy here! But there's a fine line between quietly leaving space on a receipt for customers to tip and workers almost aggressively demanding tips while customers are trying to enjoy their meal. Shouldn't tips be based on the quality of service provided? I was baffled by their gesture. It's unfortunate that I didn't enjoy my time here, despite the good food. I'm disheartened that I'll probably have to drive farther to find similar cuisine, as not many places in the area serve Taiwanese breakfast. read more

Yi Mei is a great spot for a quick bite for brunch or lunch. We were searching for a Taiwanese breakfast spot during my lunch break and found a small but warm restaurant. We ordered some staples like the Salty Rice Roll and the daikon cake. It was my first time having Taiwanese breakfast items, but my husband grew up eating these dishes. I used to go to Arcadia's location all the time for fan tuans in the past. I was so happy to find one closer to me after we moved away from sgv. I liked that this location had indoor and outdoors seating, since we had a dog with us too. However, the service was a bit rude. The lady kept telling us where the tip jar was, before we even finished ordering and paying. We ordered their salted rice roll with pickled vegetables, soy milk, fried dough, daikon cake, and sesame bread. However, everything was really oily. Salted rice roll: I love these with the preserved veggies. It was decent, but more oily than I was used to. However, I did taste a little bit of spiciness too, so my toddlers couldn't eat it. Daikon cake: the daikon flavor was good, but it was really greasy and a bit soggy. I felt bad eating it because it left my mouth with an oily aftertaste. Sesame bread: we were expecting it to taste like the Vietnamese sesame bread, but it wasn't as sweet and was a tad hard and over-fried. Soy milk and fried dough: the soy milk was probably the best thing today, but the oil bread was more soggy than crispy. I wish that the staff were a bit more patient with customers ordering and not pushing for tips and distracting us, as we tried to order.
