My girlfriends and I decided to try this place based on the Yelp reviews, and we absolutely loved it! The inside is pretty small but has such a cool vibe, and there was also limited outdoor seating. We were able to join the waitlist on our way there, so by the time we arrived, we only waited about 15 minutes. Everyone was so friendly, and the food was incredible! I stepped out of my comfort zone and ordered the BBQ burger--and WOW, it was delicious! I chose it because it had crunchy potatoes on the burger, but the barbecue sauce was also delicious. Definitely a 10/10, and I'll most likely order it again when I come back. My girlfriends tried some of the other dishes and loved them too. Your favorite Yelp correspondent is not shocked at all to learn that the maiden name of Chino Hill's buzzy brunch spot VIOLET ROOSTER was Squeze In...Because the compelling trio of generous portions, rib-sticking comfort food and funky but cool decor provokes locals to routinely pack, or squeeze themselves into, the popular spot. My buddy David recommended the "Violent Rooster," and I somehow pegged it in my mind as the "Velvet Rooster," so imagine my surprise when I first encountered it -driving by it's bright illuminated lavender sign whilst ferrying an order from a neighboring restaurant- that it's the VIOLET gamecock, not the velvet bantam and certainly not the violent one! Last FRI, fairly famished following an unexpected vehicle breakdown/tow/repair that canibalized my entire morning, I decided to audition the Violet Rooster for myself, ordered Dak's Attack (3 egg omelette filled w/ country sausage, red/green peppers, onions, cheddar/jack cheeses and house special sauce) plus loaded house potatoes and sourdough dough generously pasted with sweet butter. The Dak's Attack lives up to its name, assaults your hunger at its source. The loaded potatoes feature block-cut potatoes (remember the ice cubes Grandma usta give you from her freezer?) pan griddled w/ taffy-textured strands of cheddar. Combined w/ the fluffy fat omelette, the toasted sourdough and you've got a starchaholic's dream (or one heckuva post-hangover meal- Answering for a friend). Even tho I ordered takeout, the creative in me was instantly smitten w/ the Violet Rooster's bold design. Picture Topanga-Canyon-Meets-Mimi's-Cafe-Has-a-Hippie-Baby....love it! Specifically went here this morning for the chicken fried steak - first time, and I got the order to go. I LUV me some chicken fried steak. Where do I even begin???? The pictures of the chicken on Yelp shows what seems to be a traditional white gravy. I wish I had taken a picture, but what was on my chicken fried steak was almost translucent -- definitely not a white gravy and didn't taste anything like what I've had ever on a chicken fried steak [not a good thing]. So that's the first thing. Then, there's the breading on the chicken fried steak. It sloughs off and doesn't stick to the steak as expected, so I'm eating the steak and the breading separately with each bite drowned in this mystery gravy. The whole "chicken fried steak" was a MISS!!! Let's move on to the eggs. I asked for scrambled. What was served was over-cooked, chunky, and a little burnt on some pieces. Reminded me of fast food scrambled eggs as it also somehow had very little flavor. Unfortunately, most of the eggs were also covered in this mystery gravy, which didn't help it AT ALL. Honestly, I think the eggs were made in advance and just served when ordered. Easily, the hash browns, though it was also a little burnt, was the best thing on this plate. That's not praise of the hash browns. LASTLY, make sure, if you roll the dice on this place with a to-go order, ask for the condiments you want. Literally, they didn't even give me the plastic utensils if I hadn't asked. You wanted butter and jam for the toast which came with the chicken fried steak? Well, don't hold your breath. I ended up tossing over half of this meal away, while [with tip included] lighting more than $27 on fire - this dish was the only thing I ordered. Don't know if the manager even reads these reviews. If you are, I was there on 9/15 @ about 8:45A. It might behoove you to find out who was responsible for cooking this slop. It may not be representative of your overall food quality as pictures from other diners seems to show a more traditional dish, but this left a literal bad taste in my mouth. Great restaurant serving both breakfast and brunch/lunch. They open early in the morning and I think close around 2pm. I came today for their breakfast burrito. The restaurant is really decorated nicely and has a lot of charm. Beautiful decor. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the owner and son are super nice and helpful. I spoke with Kaylynne for a while on the phone and met Connor. Customer support is important and both people were great. On to the burrito: huge portions and stuffed with really good eggs, your choice of meat, cheese, avocado, and i had hash browns on the side. Loved the meal. I have leftovers for dinner as well. The food here is always good, and the portions are huge. I brought my dog with me this time, so we sat on the patio. The staff was so nice and brought him a water bowl, even asking if he wanted some ice. They also have a doggy menu with options like eggs, beef patties, and cheese. Came here for lunch w/my family on Saturday - it was very busy but the wait didn't feel too bad. We sat inside and upon walking in, I was blown away by how colorful and busy the place was. The decor itself is such a sight to see. Lots of options on the menu - we tried the shrimp omelette, the banana nut pancake, the chilaquiles & the chicken fried steak. That banana nut pancake was amazing, it was my favorite item and it reminded me of childhood because my mom would always make banana nut muffins! The Violet Rooster is a fantastic little brunch spot with unique, charming decor and seriously generous portions. ​ PRO TIP: Reservations are highly recommended through Yelp! It is not a very large restaurant, so if you don't book ahead, expect to wait about 30 to 40 minutes for a table (which is exactly what we waited). Because of the cozy size, it's also probably not the best spot for big parties of more than 8 people. They do have both indoor seating and an outdoor patio option. ​Once we were seated, our server was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We started with drinks--a Violet's Secret Mimosa and a Paloma--both were refreshing and well-made. ​For food, we ordered a bit of everything: ​Feta Me Betta: Egg whites scrambled with spinach, mushrooms, red bell pepper, turkey sausage, feta, and everything spice. Heard this place was busy so we joined the waitlist online as we made our way to the restaurant and that made our wait faster. Burrito was delicious, I chose chorizo as my protein. The biscuits and gravy was okay, it tasted like it was missing something but I couldn't figure out what. There wasn't enough gravy that I was just eating the biscuit by itself. The interior was pretty cool and very different with the decorations. Only complaint is our waiter never checked up on us after our food was served so we kept having to find someone (anyone who passed by) for things we needed. We asked for a box and our check but only got the box. Their hostess sucks. They gave away our table to someone who showed up 15 minutes after us. Apparently they burst out text messages to the top parties and whoever responds first gets it. We were not outside somewhere either. We were the ONLY group in the inside lobby, 5 feet from the hostess. My kids and husband have been wanting to come and here we are. Very disappointed with the service, we have been waiting inside the restaurant and weee told to wait 15-20 mins. A family of 3 came checked in when we were waiting, and got a table before us because they responded to the text first which we did not notice but we were sitting there the whole time. That individual also ordered the magic (I forget the name) but it was a mix of coffee and hot chocolate. There was no magic (sprinkles) so I asked the waiter for her to get them. As far as food... out of the five of us only two really loved their dishes. I ordered the tots and I swear it stated there was nacho cheese but they had queso. I do not like queso at all so I wouldn't have ordered them had it stated such on the menu. The tots were also soft, I would have preferred crispy. The country fried steak and the omelette with jalapeños got good reviews. The breakfast burrito was described as ok as well as the French toast. The salsa came for the burrito at the end of the meal as well. Maybe they had a server call out, maybe they always have just one. It was a far drive for me so I'm not sure I'd return. So much personality in this restaurant! We added ourselves to the waitlist around 11am on a weekend and got a call that our table was ready. I was amazed at how it looked inside. So vibrant and lively, and loved how the tables, chairs, and walls are decorated with such intention. The walls are personalized with travels, while all the chairs are handmade and painted as well. Our server was a young man wearing a baseball cap with tattoos on his arms. I apologize for not getting his name because I would have liked to recognize him personally. He was extremely polite, friendly, and patient, especially while waiting for my wife to find her account so she could receive her points.
