For the price of this sandwich I thought it was okay, a little pricey for what it is. We've been to Owen's Bistro before, but this was our first time at Owen's Italiano. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was wonderful. We split a wedge salad and the soup du jour (a tomato bisque), which were both delicious. So the name of this place is Secret Sammich but listed on Yelp as Owen's Italiano. Owen's Bistro owns this location. Wife and I came for lunch. Nice casual atmosphere. Quiet place in Chino by the Library. Parking on the street and the back. The menu changes as they bring in more selection so it may be different from time to time. They do have daily specials so make sure you check that. When you order a sandwich, you can get fries or salad or any of their deli sides which are pasta salad and two different potato salad. Very nice win selections. For lunch the wife and I ordered the Grandma Mary's meatball sub. Wife order fries with her sandwich and I opted for the pasta salad. Today's soup is chicken and vegetables. I love soup and I almost ordered one but I'm glad I held out because I was full. Don't let the size of the sandwich fool you, it may look small but it was mighty. The service was great too. We will go back and try the other sandwich. Today they added a new sandwich with pastrami. That's on my lunch order on my next trip. I LOVE small, family owned businesses like Secret Sammich ! This location is somewhat hidden as the name of the restaurant is not on the outside but rather a deli sign - it gives it a cool, speakeasy vibe and is totally a hidden gem (that used to be a liquor store I might add)! Upon entering you'll see a nice selection of Italian pastas, sauces and wines that you can purchase after dining! I think the food here helps you to feel inspired so it's fun to look at the items and ponder what you could make at home ! I tried several items and the pork chop with apple chutney was my favorite but I can't leave this review without mentioning the pizza because WOW ! Walked in last friday during lunch to order a sandwich to go. Waited 10min to take my order. Then 20 min go by no sandwich. Then apparently the owner walks in and greets and meets a few ppl while I wait another 15 min for an italiano sandwich and fries. 45 MIN & THEN THE SANDWICH HAD NO MEAT!!! Got charged the full expensive price of 17 bucks and tip. What a joke. I did attempt to fix the sandwich with some spanish chorizo and ham. You walk in to a very small entrance, the store layout could use a little refresh as it is cramped at the entrance. We had a large party I wish I'd called and made a reservation but didn't want to leave a voice mail or send an email. There's 1 cook and 1 server. The server was nice young lady she was prompt. Having been a server in the past I could see she was slammed so I offered to help. I did a few things such as put our tables together and also help her remember a drink order for a table she was waiting on. My husband and I split the steak sandwich. It was tender and delicious and the fries were fresh. It was probably not big enough to share as we were both still hungry after. I have to hand it to the cook he got all our orders (party of 12) in an hour. He could have used some help and no one came to help him from the sister restaurant (Owen's bistro) next door. I can see how parking may be challenging during the week bit there are many nearby lots if you don't find street parking. Restaurant is quaint and for a Saturday night they were pretty busy. My fellow Yelpers have raves about their sandwiches so that's exactly what we ordered and shared. We split the meatball sandwich- which is a definite must try for its amazing flavors, marinara sauce crisp roll. We also shared the Gabagool which may be my favorite with the spicy capicolla, soft roll and dressing. We save room for dessert- and highly recommend their canoli. Was actually excited to try this spot in Chino on my way to an event. The front staff was nice upon our arrival, and even gave good recommendations on what to order. However-while my food was out in a timely manner, the others in my party did not receive their food for about 40 minutes. Mind you their order was two COLD sandwiches, and a chicken sandwich. We then see the party after us received their order and even a word of apology from the owner. However when we asked what was taking our food so much longer, we were met with nothing but disappointment from the owner's reaction. She immediately stated she will be firing the front staff member-but then stated the wait was because they are short staffed. I usually come here since it's near the library. I tired the muffuletta ($16) which is chopped olives with Italian meat and cheeses. Very heavy in the olives but I'm a fan of it. The portion was good, the bread was not soggy. I also brought their Soprano for my mom for lunch. It came with turkey, prosciutto, sliced Fuji apple, brie cheese, and balsamic reduction ($16). Wow wow wow ...! 5 stars is not enough for this place. If I could give 5 times hundred, I would. First of all, the ambiance is very welcoming. It's a cozy, simple and relaxing environment where the owners really put their heart into it. The employees are very nice and well trained as well. They make everything from scratch and only use the best and fresh ingredients out there. The food is beyond amazing, they don't skimp on the meat and definitely you can taste the real deal on their food. What makes it even better is they have smaller size of sandwich that come with soup/salald. We ordered: 1. Turkey Sandwich : the Turkey is incredible. It's the best I've ever had. It just melt in your mouth, not salty at all and it's very fresh. I can taste it such a great quality of turkey. 2. Roast Beef Sandwich : my husband was surprised that I ordered that sandwich because usually I don't really care for it but somehow my gut is telling me to order it, and boy how glad I was that I chose that sandwich. The beef is so fresh, mouth watering and juicy. It's not dry at all. The size is perfect and they gave lots of roast beef. 3. Papardelle Bolognese : Both of my daughters love it and finished it within seconds. The pasta is perfectly cooked, and the meat sauce is deliciousness overload. No left over at all. If I could lick the plate, I would! It's that good! Very savory and well balanced with all the flavor and al dente pasta. 4. Tiramisu : I cheated today and glad I did. I don't usually eat sweet but this time I gotta try. It's very smooth and not too sweet. Definitely can taste it's such a great quality of tiramisu. Again, I devoured it like there's no tomorrow. Just hosted a rehearsal dinner at Owen's Italiano. They did a fabulous job. The room was set up beautifully with great ambiance for an intimate event. We had beef short rib and chicken entrees which were delicious. Service was impeccable. Highly recommend both Owens restaurants. Family run and very unique. Owen's is run by a Married couple that also owns a bistro connected to it! They are up close and personal with all of their guests, asking about the food, and making sure you get everything you need. My mom and I went here for a nice lunch and I was blown away with the sandwiches we got! I got a meatball sandwich with a side of garlic parm fries and my mom got their fillet mignon sandwich. Both of our meals were so filling and satiating! If we weren't so full from our food we would've gotten one of their New York cheesecakes, which were personal sized and looked delicious! After years of loving Owens Bistro you know I had to try the Secret Sammich. It did not disappoint. It was empty on a Thursday just after 4:30. It's cute inside with nice seating. I ordered to go and it was ready pretty quick. The special George Clooney sammy was ahhhmazing! Soft bread, a thick layer of pesto, tons of soft turkey meat, perfectly ripe tomatoes (for me a must or I toss em), mayo and thick slices of fresh mozzarella. It was two meals for me. Hubby got the Meatball sandwich with no cheese. He said it was really good but he just wished it was bigger (it's maybe 8") and had more sauce. We also tried the coconut parfait and a chocolate dessert that I don't know the name of. It tasted like chocolate ganache with dark chocolate cake, and little chocolate cookie crunches. They were both really rich and delicious. We could share one next time. They have a nice selection of wine and beer, and a basket with day-old bread for a dollar! I love Owen's Italiano and the namesake, Owen. The ambiance has improved since it was Secret Sammich, and the food is of the same great quality. The dining room is adorned with family photos and cute red and white tablecloths which give it a warm, family feel. Look closely on the walls and you'll find an infamous Prohibition era figure nestled among those family members! I highly recommend the porchetta and the wild boar meatloaf. It's a cute little nondescript space. Like a deli/shop. Sandwiches are bomb. We've been here so many times and tried every single sandwich. All good. And they've got great little sides. The only negative thing we have to share is that the bread rolls (Italian?) were very hard & hard to eat. We took half a sandwich home each and put the contents of the sandwich on fresh/soft bread rolls and it made all the difference. The contents of the sandwiches were excellent from the meats to the walnut pesto on the Paulie sandwich. The server was excellent, very cordial and efficient. I tried the The Big Boss Burger, which is a a quarter pound Wagyu smashburger, secret sauce, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, brioche bun for $15 and the brioche bun was rock hard / stale and I was surprised they would serve bread to customers that were inedible. It was disappointing to say the least. The only reason why my updated review wasn't rated lower was because the Fuggetabout Dip was delicious and the roll used/toasted was actually fresh. Not sure how I feel about coming back anymore after the burger experience. We spent almost $100 on dinner here for three people. Thanks either way. read more
