After recently having one of the finest dining experiences ever at Owen's Bistro, we had to return to try Owen's Italiano, and we were not disappointed! We came from seeing a play at our beloved Chino Community Theatre, and opted for either a late lunch or very early dinner, so decided to go for a sandwich rather than choosing the other very tempting options on the menu. We both chose the Italian Job and it was absolutely delicious! The bread, produce and delicious meats and cheese couldn't possibly have been more fresh! The secret sauce is the house made Italian Dressing seasoning the sandwich perfectly. If they bottled and sold that dressing, I would be the first in line! The atmosphere is charming, and as always, the service is wonderful. Owen's Italiano menu is unexpectedly sophisticated so there's a multitude of reasons to return...to try them all! The final plus to mention is how surprisingly modest the menu item price points are for such a really good restaurant. This place was top-tier. It has such a beautiful environment has a retro very like Italian café. The service was really good. We were the first ones there, but food came out fresh in a timely manner. Their water was just their house. Water had such a clean and crisp taste, we ordered the Pork belly sandwich and margarita pizza with a side Caesar salad. The pork sandwich was crispy, juicy full of flavor with red onions the arugula and the crispy French roll. The pizza was fresh baked oven had a fresh mozzarella, a very simple marinara, and some basil the fries were crispy seasoned to perfection and the Caesar salad has so much flavor of this place. Came here for the first time, been wanting to try this local spot since Ive heard people talk about how good the sandwiches are. For the price of this sandwich I thought it was okay, a little pricey for what it is. Deli sandwiches are usually this price but I felt that the sandwich was lacking and such little portion compared to other spots Ive been to. I would maybe try this again for the pasta but keep in mind a sandwich and lasagna and a dessert costs around $70 here. Inside was very nice. So the name of this place is Secret Sammich but listed on Yelp as Owen's Italiano. Owen's Bistro owns this location. Wife and I came for lunch. Nice casual atmosphere. Quiet place in Chino by the Library. Parking on the street and the back. The menu changes as they bring in more selection so it may be different from time to time. They do have daily specials so make sure you check that. When you order a sandwich, you can get fries or salad or any of their deli sides which are pasta salad and two different potato salad. Very nice win selections. For lunch the wife and I ordered the Grandma Mary's meatball sub. Wife order fries with her sandwich and I opted for the pasta salad. Today's soup is chicken and vegetables. I love soup and I almost ordered one but I'm glad I held out because I was full. Don't let the size of the sandwich fool you, it may look small but it was mighty. The service was great too. We will go back and try the other sandwich. Today they added a new sandwich with pastrami. That's on my lunch order on my next trip. I LOVE small, family owned businesses like Secret Sammich ! This location is somewhat hidden as the name of the restaurant is not on the outside but rather a deli sign - it gives it a cool, speakeasy vibe and is totally a hidden gem (that used to be a liquor store I might add)! Upon entering you'll see a nice selection of Italian pastas, sauces and wines that you can purchase after dining! I think the food here helps you to feel inspired so it's fun to look at the items and ponder what you could make at home ! I'm going to try to keep this as diplomatic as possible. Food: 5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Owner: 1/5 My friend and I came to have lunch after spending a day with our kids at the children's museum next door. As both of us are lifelong Chino residents, we are always excited to support small and local! It was nearing 2:00, and they close for lunch at 2:30. Having worked in the restaurant industry before, I think that is ample amount of time to order and eat without being a nuisance. From stepping in, I could tell that the hostess/server did not want us to sit down and eat, as she didn't even offer us a table until we asked for one. Too bad- if you don't want to serve after 2, then close at 2. We sat down and, being 2 women with 3 kids 3 and under with them, we were naturally outnumbered. However, our 3 year olds acted exquisitely throughout our short lunch and the 1 year old didn't make a peep. The food- insanely good. The best steak sandwich I've ever had, and the garlic Parmesan fries were to die for. My friend and I were commenting about how happy we were and how we were definitely going to comeback. Around 2:40, after paying (for our $100 lunch) and packing up the food (in flimsy Togo boxes), naturally our toddlers were antsy and chasing each other around the empty restaurant. My friend and I were not negligent and constantly were telling them to stop, freeze, etc. We even physically restrained them at some point, but we still had to pack up our things to go. As we were literally turning around to leave, a woman, that I now know is the owner, Denise, came in the front door and made a comment about how the kids were going to ruin the restaurant before some class at 3? And that they need to stop being rowdy and running so they don't break her vases, all in an extremely entitled and condescending manner. My friend stood up for us, and told her that our extremely positive experience had just been ruined by her coldness and judgment. Denise continued to try to argue with my friend and it was all extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional coming from an owner. Now reading other comments about her past behavior with customers, it shouldn't come as a surprise. All in all, I wish I could continue to support this establishment as, as I said before, the sandwich was the best I've ever had, and living 7 minutes away from the restaurant would have kept me coming back as a loyal customer. The lessons here for the owner: if your staff doesn't want to serve food 30 minutes before closing, just close 30 minutes early. If you have an event, don't make it 30 minutes after your closing time. Every customer should be treated with kindness and respect, especially after paying $100 for lunch. This experience was very disappointing, and I wish I could continue to support. I guess I'll have to find another amazing sandwich somewhere else with an owner that doesn't act in such an entitled manner to her paying customers. read more

You walk in to a very small entrance, the store layout could use a little refresh as it is cramped at the entrance. We had a large party I wish I'd called and made a reservation but didn't want to leave a voice mail or send an email. There's 1 cook and 1 server. The server was nice young lady she was prompt. Having been a server in the past I could see she was slammed so I offered to help. I did a few things such as put our tables together and also help her remember a drink order for a table she was waiting on. My husband and I split the steak sandwich. It was tender and delicious and the fries were fresh. It was probably not big enough to share as we were both still hungry after. I have to hand it to the cook he got all our orders (party of 12) in an hour. He could have used some help and no one came to help him from the sister restaurant (Owen's bistro) next door. I have had this bookmarked for some time and we decided to give it a try 2/17. I can see how parking may be challenging during the week bit there are many nearby lots if you don't find street parking. Restaurant is quaint and for a Saturday night they were pretty busy. My fellow Yelpers have raves about their sandwiches so that's exactly what we ordered and shared. We split the meatball sandwich- which is a definite must try for its amazing flavors, marinara sauce crisp roll. We also shared the Gabagool which may be my favorite with the spicy capicolla, soft roll and dressing. We save room for dessert- and highly recommend their canoli. I usually come here since it's near the library. I tired the muffuletta ($16) which is chopped olives with Italian meat and cheeses. Very heavy in the olives but I'm a fan of it. The portion was good, the bread was not soggy. I also brought their Soprano for my mom for lunch. It came with turkey, prosciutto, sliced Fuji apple, brie cheese, and balsamic reduction ($16). Wow wow wow ...! 5 stars is not enough for this place. If I could give 5 times hundred, I would. First of all, the ambiance is very welcoming. It's a cozy, simple and relaxing environment where the owners really put their heart into it. The employees are very nice and well trained as well. They make everything from scratch and only use the best and fresh ingredients out there. The food is beyond amazing, they don't skimp on the meat and definitely you can taste the real deal on their food. What makes it even better is they have smaller size of sandwich that come with soup/salald. We ordered: 1. Turkey Sandwich : the Turkey is incredible. It's the best I've ever had. It just melt in your mouth, not salty at all and it's very fresh. I can taste it such a great quality of turkey. 2. Roast Beef Sandwich : my husband was surprised that I ordered that sandwich because usually I don't really care for it but somehow my gut is telling me to order it, and boy how glad I was that I chose that sandwich. The beef is so fresh, mouth watering and juicy. It's not dry at all. The size is perfect and they gave lots of roast beef. 3. Papardelle Bolognese : Both of my daughters love it and finished it within seconds. The pasta is perfectly cooked, and the meat sauce is deliciousness overload. No left over at all. If I could lick the plate, I would! It's that good! Very savory and well balanced with all the flavor and al dente pasta. 4. Tiramisu : I cheated today and glad I did. I don't usually eat sweet but this time I gotta try. It's very smooth and not too sweet. Definitely can taste it's such a great quality of tiramisu. Again, I devoured it like there's no tomorrow. Rigatoni Bolognese , Add Green Salad ($4) Tasty meat sauce Bolognese. However, the green salad was also missing. After years of loving Owens Bistro you know I had to try the Secret Sammich. It did not disappoint. It was empty on a Thursday just after 4:30. It's cute inside with nice seating. I ordered to go and it was ready pretty quick. The special George Clooney sammy was ahhhmazing! Soft bread, a thick layer of pesto, tons of soft turkey meat, perfectly ripe tomatoes (for me a must or I toss em), mayo and thick slices of fresh mozzarella. It was two meals for me. Hubby got the Meatball sandwich with no cheese. He said it was really good but he just wished it was bigger (it's maybe 8") and had more sauce. We also tried the coconut parfait and a chocolate dessert that I don't know the name of. It tasted like chocolate ganache with dark chocolate cake, and little chocolate cookie crunches. They were both really rich and delicious. We could share one next time. They have a nice selection of wine and beer, and a basket with day-old bread for a dollar! Guess Secret Sammich isn't so secret anymore. Been coming here for months now. Randomly found it since our barber is a block over. Right next to Owen's Bistro - same owner. It's a cute little nondescript space. Like a deli/shop. Sandwiches are bomb. We've been here so many times and tried every single sandwich. All good. And they've got great little sides. You're really tasting some quality here and they've got limited rotating dishes like pastas. It's like a bit experiment and I love it. This was truly a hidden gem and stayed hidden for a while. However-while my food was out in a timely manner, the others in my party did not receive their food for about 40 minutes. Mind you their order was two COLD sandwiches, and a chicken sandwich. We then see the party after us received their order and even a word of apology from the owner. However when we asked what was taking our food so much longer, we were met with nothing but disappointment from the owner's reaction. She immediately stated she will be firing the front staff member-but then stated the wait was because they are short staffed. Just hosted a rehearsal dinner at Owen's Italiano. They did a fabulous job. The room was set up beautifully with great ambiance for an intimate event. We had beef short rib and chicken entrees which were delicious. Service was impeccable. Highly recommend both Owens restaurants. Family run and very unique. Owen's is run by a Married couple that also owns a bistro connected to it! They are up close and personal with all of their guests, asking about the food, and making sure you get everything you need. My mom and I went here for a nice lunch and I was blown away with the sandwiches we got! I got a meatball sandwich with a side of garlic parm fries and my mom got their fillet mignon sandwich. Both of our meals were so filling and satiating! If we weren't so full from our food we would've gotten one of their New York cheesecakes, which were personal sized and looked delicious! My husband and I came here for lunch today, he got the Italian Job and I ordered the Paulie Walnut sandwich. The only negative thing we have to share is that the bread rolls (Italian?) were very hard & hard to eat. We took half a sandwich home each and put the contents of the sandwich on fresh/soft bread rolls and it made all the difference. The contents of the sandwiches were excellent from the meats to the walnut pesto on the Paulie sandwich. The server was excellent, very cordial and efficient. We would definitely recommend this restaurant, the only thing was the bread-a soft baguette or roll would have received 5 stars. read more
