I used to love coming here, but recently my experience at this location felt messy and disappointing. While I was grabbing food, there was a worker replenishing the stock. The first time she stepped directly in front of me while I was reaching for food, I understood that she was doing her job. However, she did the same thing two more times, even while I was already reaching for something. It felt rude, especially since she never said "excuse me." I would have gladly moved aside if she had simply communicated with me. She could have also waited until I finished grabbing my food or let my boyfriend, who was standing behind me, know that she needed to step between us so we could wait for a moment. Instead, she repeatedly pushed through without saying anything. Then, when we went to the sauce bar, the lemon water container was empty, so we had to wait for a while before it was refilled. Unfortunately, I also noticed a strand of hair on top of my broth, which completely made me lose my appetite. As much as I love YGF, these experiences really affected my visit, and I'm not sure I would return to this specific location. read more

Located in a plaza with plenty of parking. There are a lot of other businesses in the plaza so don't be surprised if you have to park a bit further. On the bright side, I've never seen the complex full so there'll always be parking. The staff were very friendly about how to get started and grab the ingredients. Plenty of different meats, seafoods, vegetables, and noodles. They had options for with and without broth and I decided on the dry spice. The spice was very flavorful and added that nice numbing feeling to the food. Was on the spicier side and while it was bearable for me, was really spicy for the other person I was with. This is my new favorite spot right next to the south center. A few of my friends went and told me about it and I was finally able to try it out. It's a mixed of hot pot and pho. You start off with a big bowl and walk down and decide the meat you want the veggies and you can load your bowl up with as much or as little as you want. By the end you pay by the pound and pick your broth. I got the classic chicken fish maw broth it was delicious. Once your soup is ready they then escort you to the table and you can go to the sauce bar. It was delicious. You know a place is good when the line is wrapped around the building. YGF Malatang definitely lives up to the hype! The restaurant was packed, but the atmosphere still felt clean, lively, and welcoming. I really enjoyed how customizable everything was, from the fresh ingredients to the different noodle choices, it made the experience fun and personal. The broth was the highlight for me: rich, flavorful, and comforting without being overly heavy. We got #1 which is classic herbal it's not that spicy as they say more on the light mild spicy. However, #6 has no spice at all, so it's perfect for the kids. We got the chicken broth for them with their favorite udon noodles (there's so many types of noodles.) We paid around $45 with two bowls, it honestly fed my family of 4 and my daughter can eat, eat! :P You can really taste the quality in the food. Service was also smooth and efficient despite how busy it was, and the staff kept things moving quickly. Overall, one of the best malatang spots I've been to so far. Great food, great ambience, and perfect for anyone who loves building their own bowl exactly how they want it. Ps. When we received our food, I noticed my broth had been switched--I had ordered tom yum, but I received beef bone broth instead. I brought it up to the staff, and they immediately apologized and took care of it without any hesitation. Even though they were clearly overwhelmed with customers lining out the door, they handled everything so kindly and professionally. This location is much smaller but the setup is about the same. You first grab an empty bowl and tongs then you pick your raw veggies/meats/noodles from the fridge that will be weighed and taken to the back for cooking. After paying at the register, we seated at an open table. There is a sauce bar at the back corner where you can diy your dipping sauce. There were popular sauce recipes on the wall for easy sauce creation. Overall, the ingredients were fresh and items are fully restocked to meet demands. One thing I wish this location includes self-serve ice cream at the end of your meal. But oh well, there's boba and dessert shops next door that I'm not complaining about. He isn't the biggest fan of pay by the pound, especially for hot pot places like YGF. However, we both did fairly well with how many ingredients we added in. I kept mine under a pound. how nice would it be if this location had scales where u could test to see how much ur bowl weighs before each station so that u can anticipate how much u will be paying once u reach the cash register? Also, how neat would it be if the staff did not restock ingredients while people were in line to add ingredients to their bowl? Basically build your own bowl and pick the broth. I do really like that there are a wide range of ingredients from veggies, rice cake, sliced meat to seafood. I've tried both bone broth and tom yum soup base. Most of the time, I go with very spicy. But I feel that it's never really meeting the malatang hot I expected. Service: Friendly staff. After you paid for your food, they will check on your to see how many people in your party and assign a table for you. One thing I wanted to point out was that, I was getting sauces at the space bar. In the chili oil, there was a hair in the bucket of it. I had to notify the staff and I'm not sure if they replace it after. So it gave me an icky feeling about their sauce bar. Wait time: Weekends are often busy and you need to get on the wait list where there is an iPad at the door. I recommend going earlier like 5pm or after 7ish to avoid the rush. read more
