While they were already sold out in a couple of my first choices (Triple Chocolate and Cosmic) they had some others I was eyeing. Lemon Blueberry, Strawberries and Cream, S'mores, and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Yummy. I think my faves were Chocolate Peanut Butter (how can you go wrong?!) and Lemon Blueberry. I haven't tasted the brownie yet but since brownie is one of my fave desserts, I imagine I'll like it. We were waited on almost immediately and they were super nice. They have a rewards program too which I get could be dangerous! lol They had quite a few different flavors of cookies as well and I noticed they had several gluten free options which is great for those who must avoid it! The ordering is a bit old fashioned, you call ahead to put in an order, pay over the phone and then pick it up when it is ready in a warehouse like building from the front office. They were quick to get the cake and even made some accommodations to have half of the cake have a pecan coating and the other half be plain. The carrot cake was a little closer to a hummingbird cake, but it was moist and dense and fed a sizeable group. The prices were also SO reasonable! I will definitely be back to try some others!

Golden Boy Pies kept coming up as an answer, so I received a carrot cake from them for my birthday. Lo and behold, it is actually VERY CLOSE to an elusive hummingbird cake! The difference is that it contains pineapple and coconut. Hummingbird cake is typically very chunky and moist, and a very close cousin to carrot cake. But almost nobody makes it. So while this one is marketed as a carrot cake, if you are from the south, it definitely leans toward hummingbird. Anyway, it was Absolutely amazing! At first, I was a little disappointed that it didn't have thicker cream cheese icing, but once I dug into the cake and tasted how sweet and moist it was, I decided more frosting would've been too much of a good thing. I didn't see the water, and slipped and indeed fell quite hard. I'm youngish and spry, and was able to bounce back, and am just sore and achy. But nobody made any comment to me or expressed any concern (other than other guests). I in fact had to report the incident after flagging someone down, and nobody offered as much as an apology or asked if I was ok. I'm honestly glad it was me rather than an older person, as the outcome could have been rough. The food at McLain's is consistently good. I don't care for their coffee or espresso, but it's just not to my taste, I don't think it's poor quality. Bottom line, I think they could work on their soft skills regarding their guests (particularly when potential injuries are on the table). That said, do get a chicken salad sandwich from them. You are getting your monies worth and more. The cookies are crispy on the outside, soft and crumbly on the inside. Even though each cookie weighs quite a bit, they're not actually heavy. We had all kinds flavors and while many are normal and in rotation, it seemed several might be seasonal. We got one of each flavor and were excited to figure out which flavor is our favorite. The woman who greeted us was so nice and accommodating! She answered all our questions and advised us on the flavors. I'm a small person but with me and 3 other normal size customers (and the woman behind the counter) were packed in there. It was still a fun experience! They have 2 larger size pastry shelves with multiple Mexican pastries. Lots of bread, sugar, some cream, and some strawberry filling. There's a small refrigerator with a few cakes and cake slices as well. Cake slices are pretty large and they are $5. The pastries are $1.65 ea or $2.65 if stuffed with cream or strawberry jam. We got several varieties and got my Latin mother in law some bread and cookies. We enjoyed tasting our different picks. Bags of rolls were $2. They offer mole as well for purchase. I thought that was unique and if I ever decide to give it a try in cooking, I'd probably get some of this. This place is not fancy at all So if going to more of a hole in the wall as they might call it will bother you, this is not the place for you but you'll be missing out because this is authentic Mexican and just feeling the vibes is worth it! (Notice that I didn't say that the challenge was consuming one, but doing so without needing a long tummy rub afterward!) I used to pop in to Classy Cookie occasionally when I lived in Liberty, but it had been about 13…read moreyears since I had last visited. This past Friday morning I popped in for a few treats. Fortunately it was a Friday, since that is the only day that they offer Cinnamon Rolls. I also picked up a few other small treats for my wife. Everything is delicious and their prices are extremely reasonable. I hope I can remember to stop in when I'm near the Historic Liberty Square next time.
