Located in an inconspicuous shopping mall, walking inside Brown Suga*, you're hit with a heavy, vanilla scent the second the door opens. It smells heavenly! While there is colorful wall art and murals, there is a sparseness to the interior, because there is only a small area to sit and socialize. But sitting and socializing isn't why you're there. You're there for the COOKIES!!! And the cookies are incredible. The 14 we bought were hefty. Don't worry, we didn't eat them all in one sitting. If we could, we would have though! You are getting your monies worth and more. The cookies are crispy on the outside, soft and crumbly on the inside. Even though each cookie weighs quite a bit, they're not actually heavy. We had all kinds flavors and while many are normal and in rotation, it seemed several might be seasonal. We got one of each flavor and were excited to figure out which flavor is our favorite. The woman who greeted us was so nice and accommodating! She answered all our questions and advised us on the flavors. We have neighbors we share with who have a nut allergy and she separately packed the cookies with nuts. We can't wait to come back! The only downside is that we live almost 30 minutes away. I can't say enough amazing things about these cookies. If you like strawberries at all, you've got to try their seasonal flavor: strawberry shortcake. It's the BEST. If you miss it, just know you missed something special. And then the other seasonal flavor: chocolate hazelnut. I'm not a huge chocolate cookie fan but I took a chance that I'd like this one and I was so right. The cocoa they use is so rich and delicious! And the chocolate chips are divine. This cookie pairs so well with a nice cup of coffee for breakfast. And then the lemon crinkle is a nice cookie too. Slightly crunchy on the outside and moist and chewy on the inside. These folks know how to bake perfect cookies! The texture cannot be beat. Cute interior and the merchandise for sale is adorable! Need a gift? Olathe!!!! If you have not been to @brownsugakc_ you need to go now. These cookies are wonderful. Baked by a mom and daughter they are soft and chewy but still have a crunchy outside. Real loved all of them but the birthday cake sugar cookie with red and white sprinkles (normally rainbow sprinkles) was so perfect. A sugar cookie that is just the correct level of sweet. Then I went with the owner recommended double chocolate chip cookie. Yep chocolate on chocolate is never bad. I also got the snickerdoodle for Jordan and he loved it. I'm not a cinnamon fan, but he truly loved this cookie. The store is warm and inviting, and there are soft chairs that you can sit to eat your cookie that is served WARM!!! Nice to come to know black women owned businesses. A bit of ways from my neck of the woods but for delicious baked treats... I'll travel! Love the space and decor! The lounge in front and the Instagram worthy wall art is perfect! Picked up: Chocolate chip, Strawberry Shortcake and PB... also able to try birthday cake and sugar. We enjoyed the take on the traditional chocolate chip and PB cookies... the chocolate chip had a bit more vanilla than I was expecting but still good! Wasn't too big on the others. I tasted the strawberry shortcake and it definitely took on the named flavor.. I bought it for specifically for my mom though... she a strawberry feen! Absolutely glad I RSVP'd for the event. I wasn't even aware they existed but so glad to now know. The Ambiance was small warm clean and smell delicious. It wasn't busy when I went in so service was nice and fast, they answered my questions. Some of the nicest ladies ever I not only support black businesses but small ones as well they give you a personable experience.Those were some of the largest cookies I have ever seen. I ordered the peanut butter, snickerdoodle, Birthday Cake and the delicious Double Chocolate. Those cookies are Fabulous great flavor nice chew and no crumbs..you heard me No Crumbs No oily fingers while driving, these are safe cookies. We came in last minute to order a "special thank you" box of cookies, and they took care of us without hesitation. We were very impressed. My son and I decided to venture across the city today to check out this new to us cookie shop and our experience was a good one. When you first walk in the vibe is great, nice open space and the color scheme was so pretty. We were greeted by a lovely employee and the service was great. We left with 5 cookies total! The first one we tried was the Birthday cake. I never would have picked this one and probably wouldn't again. I am just not a fan of birthday cake flavored anything however the texture was awesome so if you like birthday cake flavored then try this cookie. My son picked the chocolate chocolate chip and this cookie texture was amazing, flavor was intense chocolate which made it a very rich cookie. We each ate a quarter of it and that was plenty. But that's ok to cause it means we have left overs. :-) if you are an over the top chocolate lover this cookie has you written all over it. The third cookie we got was the chocolate hazelnut. The chocolate was not as intense as the other but it was perfect. I loved it. Texture was soft inside but loved the crunch to the outside and bits of hazelnuts inside. I would order again in a heartbeat but it's a seasonal one so check it out while you can. The fourth cookie was the traditional sugar cookie. I LOVE sugar cookies and this one was delicious. Texture was great, light sugar coating on the outside and perfectly sweet. The fifth cookie we got was a snickerdoodle but we left it for my boyfriend at his place and haven't heard how good it is but I am sure based ok the others it's great too. Overall: we were glad we went over and checked it out. If we were over there again and craving a cookie we would probably run by. If you want to check out a new cookie place then this one might be just right for you. Oh and the prices I felt were really reasonable. read more

These cookies are AMAZING. I went in for my first time and immediately the atmosphere felt like a warm hug. The woman who helped me had great insight on recommend flavors and I ended up getting 3 cookies because I couldn't decide on just one. I got the "campfire" cookie (their monthly flavor, think s'mores), lemon crinkle, and cookies and cream. OH MY. Each one was so good. Perfectly crunchy towards the edges and soft in the middle but not underbaked. I will definitely be back. read more

I did not sign up for the yelp event with Brown Suga because we stayed in downtown KCMO and I did not think I would venture south. However, I was at Boulevardia and luckily for me, Brown Suga had a vendor space there! Eric R. and I got three cookies, lemon crinkle for me, and both monster and cookies and cream for him. We loved our cookies - they were huge, soft, and delicious! We will have to go to the real shop next time we are in KC! read more

A beautiful little shop that's so much more than just a cookie store! The staff were incredibly friendly and were working hard. Baking cookies, bagging up orders, explaining the merchandise to the customers and ringing up orders! They were on top of all of it. They had at least 10 flavors on rotation while I was in there and they obviously change some of them out as the season dictates. I got the birthday cake, an oatmeal raisin (my dad's favorite ) and a cookies 'n' cream (because I'm a millennial ‍). I would have to loved to try all of them, but I can't have that much temptation in the house! Not sure how the staff were all so thin, now that I think about it... And if you think you're just there for cookies, forget it! I walked out with a mug and a pin. I wanted every candle and a few of the dish towels, but I had to stick to my budget. But just know you will be tempted! Guess I'll get it when I come back, because I'm definitely going to be back!!!! read more

Had the privilege of being introduced to this place at Sip n Shop day in downtown Olathe. Bought the lemon crinkle cookie, the choco caramel crunch, and the cookies and cream. The lemon crinkle....oh my! Very delicious! Hint of a crunch on the outside, soft and chewy inside! The choco caramel has pieces of waffle cone in it, which does not disappoint! And the cookies and cream....tastes exactly like its name. Didn't make a bad selection of any of the flavors! And the lady at the booth was SO VERY NICE! Absolutely love this local bakery. I stop in every few weeks for a couple cookies and they're always amazing. Sometimes I'm grabbing a treat for myself; often I'm picking up a variety to take over to my parents' house. They're always a hit and we've never eaten a cookie we haven't loved. Recently I tried their seasonal strawberry shortcake cookie and oh my goodness--it was unlike any cookie I've ever tasted! I'm still thinking about it a week later. Delicious! My wife and I love their cookies. We've had the pleasure of trying them at a local market in Shawnee but today I found myself nearby in Olathe and had to stop by. My wife is a fan of their chocolate chip and I tried their pumpkin spice cookie, which was even better than I expected. The staff was very friendly and service was quick and easy. SO GOOD!! These cookies are delicious and perfectly cooked. I had the lemon crinkle, cookies and cream, and the cookie of the month which was a caramel cookie with chocolate waffle cone pieces in it. It's so exciting to have Brown Suga* in West Olathe! I first heard about the cookies at various pop-ups around town, and then I saw the storefront in Olathe. I was excited to support a local Black + Woman Owned Bakery (instead of a national chain). Unlike those big chains, where there's only a couple flavors and the focus is on different colors of frosting, these cookies are the real deal. Emphasis on REAL. I'd describe the cookies as an elevated version of homemade. Made with all of the love by real pros. They don't skimp on ingredients. You want a chocolate chip cookie? Then here's the best chocolate chip cookie with PLENTY of chocolate chips. The flavors are fantastic. They are big enough to share, but you won't want to, so you ought to get a dozen. A note on the online ordering: $11.25 is NOT the price for one cookie, even thought it says quantity 1, it's a 3-pack. That originally kept me from placing an online order until a Gen Z showed me how to see the "options", haha. I'll be stopping by for cookies soon for sure and will definitely be placing online orders too. read more
