General Tao Chicken, Fried Rice and Egg Roll
    Mark T.

I was in Hilliard Ohio on business this week and got a hunger for Asian cusine, so the search was on. I always try to find a mom and pop restaurant, they always seem to have the best food, so I settled on Ye's Asian Kitchen, since it looked like a family type business and had pretty good reviews on Google. I was not disappointed. The atmosphere was bright and the place was clean, with a seating arrangement for both large and small groups. It was an hour to closing time so they weren't busy, me being the only paying customer. A family member was eating in a corner table, so I figured I was in good hands here. I ordered my goto test meal, General Tso, fried rice and an egg roll. It took about 10 minutes, but definitely worth the wait. The egg roll was light and crispy, you could tell that it was made with fresh ingredients because the flavors really popped. The accompanying sauce was a fruit based sweet and sour, but not too heavy, which went perfectly with the bright flavors of the egg roll. I snuck a piece of the General Tao chicken by itself to get a good taste without any distractions, the outside was crisp and the flavor was perfect, not too spicy and not too sweet. So far everything was quite good, but then I tried the fried rice. Omg!!! I need to preface this part with a statement that I'm not a big fried rice person and certainly not a fried rice snob or connoisseur, at least I hadn't been until now...this fried rice blew my socks off. It was delicious! It was a perfect blend of rice, soy sauce, egg, onions, peas, and corn...yes, that's right, corn. Maybe it was the corn that made it so good, all I know is that if I had only gotten the fried rice by itself I would have left a very happy camper, but then adding the chicken with the fried rice together, what a combination. I found myself craving more, even when I was full, and I finished everything....the whole plate of chicken, all of the rice, and the egg roll. If you ever find yourself in Hilliard Ohio, you will be missing out on something special if your don't stop and eat here.

Udon noodle soup (they made mine without seafood, I appreciated that!)

I'll admit, I didn't go in when Ye's was vegan. Just didn't appeal to me. But they've moved to an authentic Chinese menu now with meats and seafood and it is delicious!! I had the udon noodle soup and my husband had the sizzling beef - SO good! My soup was very flavorful! And husband loved how tender the beef was. Service is excellent, food was great and we'll definitely be back! **I know some of the recent reviews have been a bit harsh, with them dropping the Vegan bit. But I think this was a good move!

The ramen is packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and consistently delicious every time I visit. Their drink selection is just as impressive as the menu and pairs well with the food. For my birthday, I was happy to try this place out since this location was close to home. Columbus is slowly becoming the place for all things foodie and geeky and I love that for us! This place is located on the 1280 W 5th Street and Northwest Blvd. There is parking in the front, and the restaurant is small and cozy. The seating is for parties of 4 to 5 but arrangements can be made so talk to a server. The menu offered everything from drinks, small place to ramen and I wanted to try more. We got the salt and pepper shrimp, the Kyushu Karaage (Japanese fried chicken), Hot tea and Takoyaki for a group of 5. Everything was piping hot and delicious and lightly seasoned to bring out the flavors of the overall dish. The servers were sweet and extremely helpful for explaining what things were and me, being a ramen nerd, could sit back and relax. I got the Kyushu Black Garlic Tonkotsu. It was so GOOD!! I love the taste of black garlic and the umami in the dish was so pleasant. The noodles were chewy, and the pork slices were so tender. The Tendernism! IYKYK. 5 stars for a great birthday meal that did not break the bank. Well, my friend covered my bill. :)

Fukuryu is the first ramen place I've tried that lets you customize so many of my favorite extras--mushrooms, fish cakes, and egg. You can also choose your spice level; I went with half chili , and it was perfect for me. Spicy enough to leave a pleasant lingering heat without being overwhelming. I'm glad I read previous reviews because they definitely deliver on the heat they promise. The only downside was that the pork wasn't as tender as the chashu I'm used to in ramen. That said, the rest of the ingredients and the noodles were well-prepared, with great flavor and texture. I would definitely order Fukuryu ramen again.

I also tried the panko chicken which was really crispy and paired well with the ramen. The vibe of the place is also great with all the lamps, flags, and decor. The servers were incredibly sweet and made the whole visit even better. They also have a happy hour menu with some great options at a discounted price, so it is definitely worth checking out. Since it is so close to where I live and work, I will definitely be going back again.

We got a couple appetizers to try and a couple ramen dishes to try. The Karaage was okay, the breading wasn't special and the flavor of the nuggets and sauce were a bit underwhelming. The gyoza was disappointing and lacked flavor. The TanTan Mazemen was good but it could have used some extra toppings to help the dish, such as corn, mushrooms, or something to balance the savory flavor. The sauce was pretty good but the ratio to ramen noodles was way too much sauce. We asked for an extra bowl of plain noodles but got a bowl of noodles and sauce. The Spicy Miso was pretty good and flavorful, it had decent toppings and spice. It was a solid basic miso broth and pretty good. Overall, the food was good but there was something missing from each dish and it was a bit pricey for the individual dishes. Staff was nice but seemed somewhat rushed when we were trying to order and throughout our meal. Overall, they were very attentive and would clean off our table every time they stopped by. We felt like we had to finish our dish because they wanted to grab the empty dish. Overall, it was a decent experience. I was a bit disappointed in the food but would try other dishes if I'm in the area. Staff was nice and service was good!
