We had a salted vanilla matcha, strawberry matcha, and the maple beef pinwheel. Unfortunately both were underwhelming. There was barely any vanilla flavor and the matcha wasn't as high grade or strong as real matcha lovers might like. The strawberry matcha also had no strawberry flavor, it was literally just a strawberry on top? I didn't have high matcha expectations but they should maybe consider replacing these with non-coffee options like horchata which would make more sense for this coffee shop. I also expected more from the pastries and there weren't any yemeni/mexican fusion ones? That would have been really nice. You can only pick something either slightly yemeni, something mexican or something as random as maple beef pinwheel like i did. The pinwheel is exactly what you would expect but the flavors didn't go together as well as I had hoped. It didn't really make sense, although it was nice it was halal. Overall, a very cute cafe to work from during the weekday and good service. They also still had pastries available in the afternoon which is nice. The owners have worked very hard to try and make this something so i had high expectations and was disappointed. I would love to see some cool fusion combos in the drinks and pastries in the future, and hopefully their offerings will generally improve. read more

My first exposures to Yemex were half each of a café de olla roll and a guava danish brought home as an afternoon snack. The execution and flavor profiles were so brilliant that I knew I had to go try it for myself! So on my way out to the K-spa in Katy, I dropped into Yemex for a quick breakfast on Sunday morning. The first thing I noticed when I entered was the calm, peaceful stillness of the café - you won't find noisy patrons or background music here, but feel free to bring your own headphones if you prefer to work or relax to some beats. The drink and food menu is quite unique; keeping with the unique fusion of Yemeni and Mexican flavors, you'll find cinnamon, date, sesame, za'atar, and tropical fruits woven through their selection of coffees, teas, and pastries. The servers offered to explain the menu to me but I already had my heart set on trying the date cardamom horchata latte and the turkey & cheese croissant, which were promptly prepared. My drink was well-balanced between creamy, spiced, and sweet notes, pairing perfectly with the flaky, savory croissant inflected with hearty salsa macha. I only stayed to finish my food and work on a few things, but I could easily see myself spending a whole afternoon here with a good book - next time I'm out this way I'll definitely have to stop by again! read more

Yemex is a Yemeni and Mexican bakery and coffee house that opened up not too long ago. I'm so glad they have halal options! -The maple beef chorizo was good! Great sweet and savory option -Dulce de leche: a little bit on the sweeter side but still a creamy and delicious latte! Service was quick and staff were friendly. There is plenty of parking and the inside of the cafe is beautiful! Very nice decor and plenty of seating options. They have throw blankets on some of the chairs if you get cold. I've been eating yemex since they were just a pop up and I'm so so excited that they were able to start their own store!! And their drinks are amazing! I tried the cafe de olla- iced which I would actually recommend doing hot instead. But the guava matcha was soooo good!! Highly recommend. You cannot go wrong with any of their pastries but my favorite is definitely the mint berry for a sweet one. I also had the maple chorizo & the turkey & cheese with salsa macha. Everything super flavorful and well made. And it's been super popular since they opened a few weeks ago! Definitely get there early if you want pastries cause they ran out midday on a Saturday. (Which they're good about restocking but it takes time). The space is also super cute and the decor really captures both cultures very nicely. read more

My sister-in-law discovered this bake/coffeehouse on Instagram after seeing a reel of the owners' pastry drops. Since my SIL is a baker herself, I immediately was onboard when she told me about them opening a brick & mortar. This place is gorgeous! It's wonderfully located. And not only is it extraordinarily clean and perfectly tempered (it's on the cold side which I love), but the staff was continuously mopping as they handcrafted our beverages. They were HARD at work! My SIL ordered the Salted Dulce de Leche Latte with whole milk and she said it was really really good (4/5, would have been better without so much cold foam). She got the berry pastry and gave it a perfect score! My Cafe de Olla Latte was incredible (5/5)-- nothing I've ever had before! The spices and citrus were perfectly balanced and I could have downed three more of them, EASILY. It was perfect with oat milk. My cinnamon-coffee pastry was a hearty portion and quite delicious. The middle was a little dry but overall it was insanely tasty. The best part was that it wasn't too sweet & therefore it went perfectly well with the Latte! I hope the best for this business -- the product is spectacular so I hope the community shows up! What a unique fusion experience!! I would definitely revisit next time I'm in town. read more

I love this place in Katy! You can tell that the owners really put effort into the drinks, decor and the ambiance. I came to try out some coffee and a few different pastries and everything was super delicious. I didn't know which coffee to try since it was my first time, so I got the Spanish latte. It was super well balanced and not too sweet. The pastries are super flaky, and not very overpowering in terms of sweetness. Yemeni coffee culture meets Mexico. Husband and wife owned and their first brick and mortar bake house. Visited in the evening and no surprise it was busy. While there was a line it moved really quick. Cashier and baristas were friendly and moving quick. We got the Cafe de Olla Latte and a Salted Vanilla Matcha. Both were bursting with flavors and weren't overly sweet. Just my kind of indulgence. Everything is 100% Halal. Unfortunately they were out of the majority of the baked goods so didn't get to try any. But they looked good based on the few ahead who got the last servings & the options listed in the menu. The space is intimate where it can feel tight but there's plenty of seating. Came here the week after Ramadan to try out their coffee and pastries. Everything I tried was really good and ambience is really nice too. Subtracting a star because while I was on the way there, they had posted on their IG story that they were out of pastries and another batch was proofing. I asked when I got there how long it would be, they said 1-1.5 hours later. After 1.5 hours passed, no pastries in sight. It took nearly 3 hours for the pastries to be put out and sold. I walked into Yemex planning to order food, but before I could even look at the menu, I was immediately told I couldn't eat there because I had a bag from their neighbor, Kolache Bar. I completely understand businesses having policies about outside food, but the way it was said was unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming. First impressions matter, and instead of feeling like a customer, I felt embarrassed and dismissed. Customer service and tone go a long way. On the other hand, Kolache Bar had amazing customer service and a welcoming atmosphere. They definitely gained a loyal customer after this experience. read more

I don't live in Katy but made the drive out just to try it. So far I've had their Cafe de Olla Latte and Salted Dulce De Leche both were incredible even though I didn't think I'd like the salted dulce de leche. What really takes the the cake for me personally though (as someone who struggles to find decent gluten free pastries) is their cheesecake. I've had the chocolate and the plain. Both were the perfect level of sweetness, but I personally like the plain one more. Those cheesecakes alone can be the reason why I make the hike out to see them. Saw the inauguration on Instagram and had to make the drive (50 min) to try it. The place is spotless, bathrooms are immaculate and the service is friendly and welcoming. We had the Maple Chorizo Pinwheel and it's was delicious, you might think the flavors don't go with each other but they do! We also had the Feta,Tomato & Za'atar danish and it was amazing. The Pain Au Chocólat (on the menu it's listed as Pain Au Suisse) and their Guava & Cream cheese are spot on! The pastries are fresh and they don't sit around for long.
