The service was great.. our waiter was friendly and attentive. What he didn't know he found out.. loved his honesty. Not a fan of the shrimp artichoke dip... could not find the Shrimp, way too chunky. The Shrimp bisque was very yummy, the grits and shrimp flavorful.. l'm not a fan of sweet pepper or Brussels sprouts, but enjoyed it all the same. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters which happen to be part of their Happy Hour ($0.75 each). They were gorgeous and huge. So delicious. Get them for sure! Our main meal was the Seared scallops and Fillet Oscar. Both were fantastic. We kicked out plates clean. Such fun Flavors and crisp veggies. The scallops were perfectly seared over a thick rice with asparagus and mushrooms. The salad on top was different but still tasty. Of what I had of jimmys Fillet Oscar was lovely. Got the seared tuna and calamari appetizers, tuna was definitely better. Had the fish tacos with candied Brussels for my entree, tacos were blackened but the dish was super bland. Brussels were overly sweet I couldn't eat them, reordered the Brussels sprouts and they came out bland and crunchy/undercooked. Service was great (thus the 3 stars), but the food was too much of a disappointment. We had our son and daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner here the other night. The back room is really nice for events. I met Chris, the owner, and they put together a nice menu for the rehearsal dinner. The crab cakes were wonderful as well as the shrimp scampi over pasta. The Caesar salad was the best I ever had. Yellow Fin is on the Gainesville Square. I love the quaint, small-town feel of the area, and this cute little place fits in just nicely. On the upper-end in scale and feel they have a nice selection of cocktails, and a terrific menu. We love the $1 oysters on Tuesdays, and will usually order a few dozen, and a couple of Chile Bloody Mary's, and then split an entree. The service is really good, and the food is always terrific. We visited Saturday night for dinner and our server was was great but we had to wait forever for our meal to arrive. Also, I ordered the Pecan encrusted Ahi Tuna ($30) that was over cooked, dry and tough. I ate only a couple of bites. The rice was clumped together and dried out. My wife had their fish tacos which she liked and said it was good. We ordered desert and waited so long they comped it. I know everyone is having tough times with getting good help but they need to step up their quality of food prep and wait time if they want to charge $30 for a piece of fish and rice. read more

We were so pleasantly surprised to find this wonderful restaurant on the way to Cashiers. The downtown is quaint and hip and the architecture beautiful. The menu is fantastic and has something for everyone. The bar and bartender are great including the Moscow mule. The service was fantastic. The food was five star, the presentation a piece of art, and the portions just perfect. My scallops were cooked perfectly, browned on the outsides and tender in the middle. The fresh seafood in the paella was beautiful. All and all Chef Robert takes pride in his food and in the presentation. We enjoyed talking with him also. You will enjoy it. read more

When you walk in on a Saturday night and the place is empty... That's your sign. We started at recess and waited 10 minutes and no one acknowledged our table so we came next door. Bad mistake. The bartender wasn't happy to see us. He obviously doesn't like his job. We started with appetizers to be safe. The calamari was undercooked and served with two sauces that screamed sesame oil. The bread that were served with them were actually good. The mussels were absolutely terrible. They reminded me of the oysters I ate out of a can when I was poor growing up. The sauce was watery. The bread was soggy. When I walked in and brought up the lack of customers, the bartender ignored me. The least he could have done is make sure everything we received was perfect and gave us the best recommendations regardless of how crappy the food. I mean at least he gave us water?? I should probably remind myself that this restaurant is in Gainesville, GA, not in DC, and to lower my expectations. But the other reviews were so good! And yes, if you're in Gainesville, go here. I just convinced myself to give them four stars. But this is a non-foodie four stars. It's four stars to help people make the decision to support a local place, instead of going over to the Olive Garden or whatever. Anyway, if this was DC, it would be two or three stars. And here's why: Service was a bit strange. It wasn't very busy when we got there, and at the beginning we actually got TOO MUCH attention from the server, but by the end of our meal he had basically forgotten about us. His overall demeanor was a bit... forced? He was so busy flirting with me (much to the chagrin of my boyfriend who was sitting next to me) that he didn't even take drink orders from the other side of the table. He also scoffed when I suggested the sister restaurant was a "Gastropub" (which I only said because THAT'S WHAT IT SAYS ON THEIR SIGN OUT FRONT). Basically he was just kinda weird... Too much talking, not enough order taking and serving. And before you think I'm just judging for the sake of it, please know that with my years of experience waiting tables, I know there's a fine line. And dude was way on the other side of it. The prices were decent. Probably higher than other places in Gainesville, but I was distinctly under the impression that the food was fresh (not frozen) and I'm happy to pay for that. The oysters were good. The wedge salad was GREAT. I would have ordered a whole head of lettuce (four wedges?) if I had known how underwhelming the fish tacos would be. So yeah, the fish tacos were underwhelming. The boyfriend had the fish sandwich which was too salty and otherwise underwhelming. My mom had the shrimp and crab dish, and her shrimp were ludicrously overcooked. She couldn't even get the meat out of the tails because they were so rubbery. I didn't taste my aunt and uncle's meals but they looked.... okay. Bottom line: Great find in Gainesville, but if you have high food expectations, lower them and be okay with it. read more

The food and service was outstanding. I normally would not come to north GA to eat seafood being I live in a coastal town. But the Tuna Poke was hands down the best I've ever eaten and the Scallops my wife had were cooked perfect. There were 5 of us in our group for dinner. 3 of the guests arrived earlier than the 2 of us. The table was right behind the hostess desk not far from the door, it was LOUD & dark. The chairs were very uncomfortable. When we sat down our guests said it took 40 minutes to get their cocktails And appetizers. The food was very good ( it would have been Especially good if it was hot). Our waitress was very pleasant , but it took FOREVER to get drinks & our food. We couldn't really hear each other across the table unless we were yelling because the music was LOUD & by the time we got out of there I had a headache. This was not an enjoyable experience for me , being as expensive as it was. I would score the food a 5 if it was hot. All I saw of the place was the hostess desk, 4 tables against the wall & the front door, so I can't score anything else. Ok is the best I can say for this place. Blackened Maui Maui was over seasoned and over cooked. The salmon dip had a hard coat of cheese on top. Bad when you have to cut your dip. The wedge, the lettuce edges were brown, we sent back, they pulled the leaves out that had brown on them and sent the same salad out but much smaller. The Brussel sprouts were bland and needed salt. To have such high reviews I'm hoping this was just a off day for them. read more

I don't know why from the picture I assumed they had more sushi. I actually searched sushi on Yelp and this is what came up. My food was great. I had a sampler with shrimp and fish. I had "hoppin johns" which is apparently black eyed peas in rice - just another strange southern thing I learned in GA. It was all really good. Oh - for appetizers I had the half of the oysters rocafeller. SOOOOO good. Lathered with cheese just how I like it. Great place in the square to have seafood and enjoy some southern charm. Yellow Fin in Gainesville is a trendy little fish house near the square. It is owned by the same folks that own the restaurant next door, and so you have a couple of offerings from one centralized approach, but with totally different menus. As far as the restaurant goes, it is clean and feels airy and modern. The food is excellently done, but tends to come out sporadically, rather than everything hitting the table at the same time (we were a group of 8). The portions were smallish, but then again, when I eat seafood ... I really want to eat some seafood! I supplemented by ordering three appetizers (two to share, and one just for me! Raw oysters!) We also had a couple of drinks here with dinner, and they seem to have a dab hand behind the bar. Good drinks, high quality. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. But I would go with an understanding that I shouldn't go while feeling very hungry and hope to survive on an entrée alone. And since this is a $$$ rated place, supplementing with apps and sides can raise the end cost. My last trip, three adults, the damage was $180 plus tip. OK, but not an every week type of thing. I absolutely love the ambiance of That section of Gainesville. Being from NYC, Wash DC, Raleigh and Atlanta I found it quite bountiful w the mounted fish on the walls. A striped Marlin lime the one I have from Maui caught my attention. Crab cakes were delicious and I'm used to Annapolis MD (Naval Academy). Oysters wonderful. I had a salmon beautifully cooked (had to remove skin on side - preference I do it) and a wonderful spring salad w cranberries and feta. Great meal. Great liveliness in a Covid struck culture. Waitress was awesome and very attentive. I hear people on here talking about pricing. If you can do better going offshore for a $1600/day excursion off the NC Outer banks or into the Gulf of Mexico go do it. If you're complaining-about price at this place you should be eating at McDonalds and Western Sizzlin'. Or maybe don't enjoy the finer things then complain about price. In the end you get what you pay for and I tip 20% min and w all the food and appetizers we ate was less than $90. I'll eat $200 of sushi at a good sushi place. Lol read more

I was looking forward to checking out this place since the reviews looked great but was disappointed with our dinner during our first visit over the weekend. Called up and made a reservation and we were seated promptly upon arrival. First off, our server was fantastic and everyone at the restaurant was super welcoming and polite. Perhaps it was what we ordered that wasn't the best but we were both disappointed with our entree choices. I was going to go with the 7 oz coffee crusted steak but opted for the tacos instead because I wanted something lighter. To my surprise, the steak was way to salty for me. I'm sensitive to salty foods and prefer to add my own seasoning if necessary but the steak in my tacos were noticeably salty. I did appreciate the corn relish that came with my steak tacos. The BEST part of my entree was my side of brussels sprouts. I would go back just to order a giant bowl of those any day! My boyfriend's grouper tacos were decent but his side of spinach was also too salty and over powered with garlic seasoning. We both thoroughly enjoyed our order of a dozen, very meaty oysters. We might return and try something different but the over salted side item and my steak tacos make me want to give it a month or so before going back. Located in the quaint downtown of Gainesville this charming restaurant offered many tasty choices. I was there with three co-worker and we all had different things. Everything was wonderful. They offer a full bar and and what looked like wonderful desserts. We were all too full to try one. I had the seared tuna and it was perfect. It was served with tempura asparagus with a wonderful chili sauce. If you are looking for great seafood I would highly recommend giving them a try. read more

We had the raw oysters on the half shell, mussels, tuna poke, crab cakes, and marinated beef tips. All were very delicious. The seafood was fresh and the beef was cooked to perfection.
