We visited for the first time yesterday for our anniversary and it was PHENOMENAL. I had the chicken ghee roast per the waitresses recommendation and loved it. A subtle spiciness, with tender chicken. The garlic naan was probably the best we've had. My wife tried the Korma and loved it as well. If you've not tried Gulab Jamun, we'd highly recommend. Ordered the Special Dum Biryani rice w/ Goat. Barely any goat meat came with it, there were multiple large clumps of what I assume was seasoning that weren't cooked through the meal, found a piece of black&white hair on top as well. Very disappointing. Also ordered the beef samosas which tasted good but were barely warm even though I picked up my order right on time. This was the 2nd time I ordered from here, the 1st time was a similar experience to this but I wanted to give them another chance. Never ordering from here again. We decided to branch out to try Indian food (long time since I had tried it and that experience was not good). SO glad we did..the food is absolutely delicious. Our server was exceptionally helpful in recommending dishes based on our spice levels and then explaining the best way to eat it so that all the flavors came together. Awful business. I'm an uber eats driver and picked up the order for the customer at 10:20pm. It' says they close at 11pm on Saturday on yelp or any apps. But when I came in to pick up the order, employees were so rude and told me "we're closed at 10pm. You came here too late and we had to stay here for you. You had to cancel this order if you were coming here this late" I was shocked and disappointed. I told them that I had multiple orders to drop off. Then they said "well you don't do that" like how can you tell me what to do? This is my side job to make money. They get paid for this order so im doing this for your business too. But I didn't have any energy to argue with them so I left. But if you want your business to be successful, you have to be consistent with your business hours. And if you wanted to go home so bad then you just had to cancel the customers order and just go home. You accepted the orders then be patient with drivers who has multiple orders to drop off. Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Until the end. I am unsure if this was intentional or a simple mistake. But i do not want it to happen to anyone eles. When it was time to pay the bill the waitress hoovered over me while i checked my purse for the credit card, it was eight of us and i felt weird, ( like could you walk away and let me get my payment together) after swiping my card, she attempted to pull the device way. I managed to complete the questions on the credit card device. And entered my text number to get the receipt . When i got home i noticed the tip was included in the final cost. I DOUBLE paid the tip. Food=5 Stars Service=5 Stars Ambiance=5 Stars The wait staff was excellent and answered our (3 of us) questions about the menu with ease. We all agreed to share all the food on our plates as they arrived within 10 minutes after ordering. We wondered if all the dishes were spicy hot, and they told us we need to tell them how spicy we want it. The spice index works like this: Low Heat, Medium Heat, High Heat. I prefer medium (I've learned medium is very hot for Indian Restaurants). My companions at the table decided to play it safe and tried Low Heat with their dishes. The following drinks were ordered for dine-in: (1) Chai Tea, (2) Mango Lassi, (3) Sweet Lassi. The tea is hot cardamon-spicy tea served with real cream and sugar; the lassi's are creamy sweet yogurt drinks that are delicious. We ordered appetizers (1) Punjabi Samosa and (2) Kurkuri Bhindi. Both were very good. Punjabi Samosas are hot crispy dough filled pouches with creamy pea/potato/onion filling and came with a tamarind and a mint sauce, both excellent, but preferred the sweet tamarind on the crispy samosas. Kurkuri Bhindi are shredded deep-fried okra covered in a salty-savory seasoning and the entire table ended up chomping on these delicious crispy fritters until our main courses arrived. Main courses included: (1) Tandoori Sheek Kabab with side of Jeera Aloo and side of Mint Paratha; (2) Buttered Chicken with Basmati Rice and side of Naan Garlic bread; (3) Goat Handi with Basmati Rice and side of Naan Garlic bread. Tandoori Sheek Kabab are cylindrical meat patties grilled to perfection on a skewer and served over thinly cut hot vegetables on a hot sizzling cast-iron plate brought to the table consisting of six pieces (each about 3-inches long) of hot spicy Kabab. The kabab comes with chutney, but you will have to order sides with this one like rice or potatoes, and/or bread. If one person orders Naan Bread, there will be enough for everyone, so don't worry about order an additional side of bread. I went for the side of potatoes called "Jeera Aloo" which are sautéed small potato chunks in tasty cumin seeds, green chilis and curry seasoning peppered with green cilantro leaves, which were delicious. I also ordered a side of Mint Paratha which is whole wheat thin flat bread ingrained with real mint leaves oiled on both sides and served hot. Good, but preferred the hot garlic Naan bread if given a choice. Garlic Naan bread was crispy, tasty, and not as thin as the Paratha bread. Both the Buttered Chicken and the Goat Handi meals were both excellent. Given a choice though, I would stick with the Buttered Chicken, which is a grilled marinated chicken simmered in spicy, aromatic, buttery and creamy tomato-based gravy that is served in a small single-serving adorable copper pot that comes with another copper pot fill with hot and aromatic Basmati Rice (same with the Goat Handi). Be careful when biting into the Goat Handi as the meat and bones are cooked together, but meat is so tender and delicious, it falls off the bones. Goat tasted different from the Buttered Chicken in that the seasoning was more subdued with curry, spicy tomato and butter sauce with a rich texture. I didn't think I would like it, but it was delicious. Both orders included a side of Garlic Naan Bread (4 large pieces) and we had a lot of bread left over (warning: order only 1 serving of Naan bread--enough for 3 people). We all agreed to only share one dessert in the end since we were so full, so we had left-over food to take home: "Gulab Jamun" was light, sweet and delicious. Gulab Jamun consists of two large fried balls of milk-based dough soaked in a syrup scented with green cardamom, saffron, rose water, and other spices, served hot. Even though we were all full, we all ate our share of "Gulab Jamun". Great dinner for three! At the end, the owner (Samir Patel) came to our table asking how we liked the dishes. We gave all three thumbs up! We asked about the Gulab Jamun, and he admitted it was a Turkish dessert that is popular in India. Each middle-eastern country has their own name for it. The dessert originated in the Ottoman Empire. In Greece, it is called "pomba" and in Turkiye it is called "bamiyeh" or "tulumba". The restaurant is named Yellow Handi because of the copper pots the dishes were served in as handi is the copper pot. Yellow may refer to the color of the copper, but it is considered an auspicious color in India. We definitely will return to this restaurant again to try other menu items as the atmosphere allows us to have normal conversations without fighting over loud music or constant interruptions. The wait staff was excellent and answered many of our questions regarding the menu. If you do like alcoholic drinks, they provide beer, but no mixed drinks yet. Perhaps in the near future. Having moved out of Suwanee to Monroe we have been on the hunt for some great Indian Food and this place did not disappoint. Amazing Food and Service by Zara the lovely waitress. The restaurant was very clean and very nice music playing. My husband who normally dislikes going with me to get Indian food now is willing to go back to get his new favorite dish the Salmon Tikka Tandoori. I really wanted to like this restaurant. My wife and I both love Indian food. She found the restaurant by doing a Google search. The restaurant was located on the end of a strip shopping area. Not fancy, but just ok. What matters most to me is friendliness, cleanliness, and food quality. We were greeted just a bit oddly. Slightly strange attitude. They gave us the option of our food being mild, medium, or High spicy. We both opted for medium. I can handle spicy hot food. I can eat hot peppers that most people will shy away from. The "medium" spicy food that we received was not medium. It was absolutely high heat. Just before our food came out of the kitchen, a super loud sneeze came from the kitchen area. It almost sounded fake. The exact same thing happened the second time we ate there. Like I said, I really wanted to like this place. So we did return a second time. This time my wife ordered her food mild spicy. I, thinking that the first intensely hot "medium" spicy was an accident, ordered it again. It was not medium. It was almost unbearably hot. My wife's food was mild. Go figure. The combination of the weird attitude and the second loud sneeze coming from the kitchen, and the ridiculously hot food, made me not want to return. read more
