Really disappointing experience at Yard House because of our server, Ishmael. We have been here numerous times and have never experienced service like this before. From the moment we sat down, Ishmael made us feel like we were an inconvenience to him. We started by asking for waters, and when he came back he said, "Are you just going to have waters or what?" in an unnecessarily rude and condescending tone, as if he was already assuming we weren't going to order anything. When we were ready to order and tried to tell him our order, he just told us we could order it ourselves on the screen. Throughout the rest of the meal, his attitude didn't improve. Whenever our food came, he would practically slam the plates down on the table. Everything about the way he interacted with us felt dismissive and hostile. What made it even more frustrating was that the restaurant wasn't busy at all. There were plenty of empty tables, so it wasn't as though he was overwhelmed with a packed section or rushing between a ton of customers. We genuinely couldn't understand what we had done to deserve that kind of attitude. We've visited this Yard House many times before and have always had perfectly fine experiences, which made this stand out even more. We understand that servers can have bad days, but there is a difference between having a bad day and making customers feel unwelcome from the moment they sit down. We got together to celebrate a birthday. This was our 2nd celebration at this location. The service is always great. Fortunately they set us up inside, it was a cold evening for Fl standards. Yardhouse feels like your backyard thanks to the warm attention of Marcel (our Marcel Marceau) and his loyal buddy Sam... both will make sure to treat you as friends, setting the tone for what you expect from comfort American food. We started off with some Poke Nachos, and unexpectedly they were a little bit spicy for us, but it is part of their asian flair. Not as big in portions as its counterpart Chicken Nachos, but a fair size if you are saving your space for what is coming next. The entrecôte with truffle fries and sautéed veggies has its signature punch... a legit execution at a much fair price than other restaurants in Miami, where you can easily find the same dish for twice the price. The parmesan truffle fries, even though they were fresh, confused me in terms that I wasn't sure if they were missing the truffle or the parmesan. Either way, they didn't make my cut. On the contrary, the sweet potato fries beat my expectations. Sweet, salty, crispy, and crunchy, all those textures and flavors in each bite are still around. Finally, the maine lobster noodles with, shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, spinach, and parmesan, were even spicier than the poke nachos, which is kind of a miss because the spice overlapped the rest of the flavors, but overall it was an interesting choice. To close with some sweet highlights, the desserts really leveled and calmed down those spicy spikes: the bread pudding topped with crème anglaise, took me to Spain as it tasted like the American version of a "torrija", but even better executed. The swirling caramel syrup splurged on the pudding and scoops of cold cream to an indulgent interpretation of this classic Spanish dessert, even taking the spotlight over one of my favorites, the Oreo brookie because I'm a fool for crumbles, cookie dough fudge brownie, which was I expected but the bread pudding really played a higher league. Nobody brought us silverware until I asked for it twice. They didn't bring plates for the appetizers and when they did, they only brought three out of four. Located in Merrick Place mall in Coral Gables, the Yard House has a special place in my heart as it is where my wife and I first met. But ironically I barely have come back since. But decided to come back recently with our son. The beer selection is immense. I was able to sample about 4-5 options before settling. I ended up with a yard of beer which was ice cold and somewhat of funny way of saying I only had one beer. It was delicious. As for the food, we opted for the happy hour menu which had a good selection of appetizers at half off menu price. We ordered the Calamari, the Chicken Nachos, and the Sliders. The food came out cold and we had it sent back. Our server Chris and the Manager Maria were great. They both were very apologetic and let us know it would be taken care off. Unfortunately the food came back cold again. By this time we were starving and just wanted to move on. Overall the food was OK and I'm sure it might have been better had it been hot but honestly you come to Yard House for the beer and maybe the food is just secondary. The restaurant was busy for a Monday but it was Veterans Day and maybe that had something to do with the lapse in the kitchen. But no complaints from front of the house staff as they were very attentive. The kitchen just didn't have it that night. But luckily beer solves many problems. Sigh. This was the most ridiculous, absurd, slow and peculiar service and restaurant I have ever had and experienced in my life. I truly am an individual that doesn't like to complain but when I say I wanted to speak to a manager my experience was so ridiculous, I mean it. My bf and I visited the Yard House location in Merrick Park which we've been to before and usually have a good time. 1. It was CROWDED, more crowded than I've seen before so I figured that may be a good sign. 2. Food was MID. We ordered the Spicy Zatar Hummus, Miguel's Queso Dip, Fontina Vodka Pasta and Mediterranean Veggie Burger. The Hummus was a 3.5/5, queso dip 3/5, pasta was 2/5 and burger was 2/5. 3. Our server was MISSING IN ACTION the majority of the time there. (For context, we arrivedat 8:30pm had a 20 minute wait before being seated and didn't leave until 11:00pm). Took close to 20 minutes AFTER finishing our appetizer for him to reappear and finally ask us if we wanted to order something else. The food was MID as mentioned, his service and attentiveness, was much worse. There were loud, obnoxious kids, everywhere... walking around, banging on tables to great each other and just doing the most. Although were there for over 2 hours, I couldn't even tell you our serves name... we probably spoke to him 5 times (less than a total of 10 minutes). 4. The server tells us someone ACCIDENTALLY paid for our meal so we have to pay for theirs .... where tf does that happen. BUT he told us, it's okay because it was cheaper than what our meals would have been so look at it as a discount......... HUH? 5. He leaves after the weird explanation of our check and disappeared for 40 minutes. I tried to be patient and finally had to ask another server to get ours so we could pay for the check (that wasn't ours). He left and returned graciously saying he would take our check for us. It was only at that time, than our server returned. I hate to to leave a review for a business I have visited more than once, when it's clear, a good portion of my bad experience was due to an inconsiderate server, and I hate to be the one to even go in like this BUT as a client, customer, consumer... that was unacceptable and irresponsible how we were "taken care of". Unfortunately, today was such a bad experience and put a bad taste in our mouth, we agreed we will not be returning. Our friend was leaving to go back to Atlanta and wanted to go out to dinner with her before she left. We went to Yard House in Coral Gables. Four of us arrived earlier than the other four so we went to sit at the bar for drinks. (They do not accept reservations) We had a glass of wine and by the time we were finished, our table was ready. Our waitress name was Maddie. She was the most patient waitress I have ever had. The ladies I was with can be the most demanding but I have to say, Maddie stood the test of time. She was wonderful and did not forget one item or request. We ordered all types of dishes and all of them were marvelous. I ordered a cup of tomato bisque and it was the best I have ever had. Came here on a Friday night for happy hour with friends. The Happy Hour specials (Mon-Fri 3-6pm) are definitely great in that it's not only for drinks but also for food, and you don't have to sit at the bar for them. I ordered the BBQ Gardein pizza. Since the happy hour special was 1/2 off certain appetizers and pizzas, I got the pizza for only ~$9 including tax. The pizza was freshly hot, crispy on the edges, and I loved the sweet bbq sauce. The Gardein part was definitely the classic meat substitute that tastes weird by itself but surprisingly meshed well when you ate it all together as a pizza. It was a decent size and I got to share it with my friends, so definitely good value to the pizza. Got to try my friends' food too, and I also loved their chicken nachos, four cheese spinach dip, and their chicken lettuce wraps. Service were also nice--they forgot about one of our orders, but they made up for it by offering a complementary 1/2 portion of their brookie (brownie-cookie) sundae. Ended up getting a full brookie by accident--goes to show that not all mistakes are bad ones. The place is located in Merrick park, so pay for parking as street parking or in the parking garage. We came here for the AFC/NFC championship games this weekend while in town. The food overall was solid, nothing bad mostly average. The brookie with ice cream is fantastic for dessert though. Service was very good throughout especially with how full it was. We had put our name in and then their system messed up after awhile we went and asked and they apologized and sat us quickly after. While they were both delicious, I could tell the avocado were not fresh fresh cut and mashed as the color was a bit off. My stepmom and I both got burgers. Our came with two slices of cheese and I felt it was a bit much and peeled the cheese off. My dad loved that his salmon was blackened and finished it off. All in all a great meal, but the service seems like the servers are directed to immediately clear your plates which resulted in our appetizers being cleared before we were done with it. Staff in kitchen and servers are poorly trained about food restrictions and veganism, they're slow and just shame on management. Vegans, it's no longer safe to trust that what you order is in fact vegan. Some of the vegan items have been and are being removed. Also, the management for the evening had no idea about sporting events, so though the place is nice and has ample seating, it was dead. One server understood the sports fan vibe and helped change the channels on the tvs but OMG even the bar, as slow as the evening was last night, got my drink after our meal.
