It's been years since being back to the Yangtze, but I'm pleased to see it under Vietnamese ownership! They've maintained the original Chinese menu while adding Vietnamese options to it. My mom and I stopped by a few days ago for lunch and got the shrimp spring rolls, rare beef pho, grilled pork vermicelli noodles with egg rolls and Vietnamese coffees. All of the food was delicious! The service was a little slow but our waitress notified us ahead of time. The ambiance has the same layout as it used to be with it spruced up with Vietnamese influenced decor. Will be coming back to try with my brother and a friend of ours. read more

As of 2026 the new management team is a total failure- they never keep consistent hours/ days of business and most days they have a paper sign saying they are closed despite the hours posted on the door and website- I'm certain they will close permanently soon. Don't waste your time read more

We stopped in on a whim just yesterday, Friday night. It was completely empty!! However, we were greeted and sat immediately by a very kind hostess, who served us later on. She was attentive and friendly for our entire visit. I enjoyed the hot tea, our respective lo meins came out extremely quickly of course, and it was absolutely delicious. It was authentic and balanced - I appreciated that you can modify the spice to your level of comfort. I hope more people can patronize this business, they certainly have the room for it! Very spacious interior, full of comforting Chinese decor - down to the zodiac paper place mat (shoutout to my fellow monkeys). Terrible food worst Chinese place in town not clean raw chicken bad rice not cooked all the way

Went in tonight for a quick bowl of Pho. 4 other groups were in the restaurant. The single waitress was able to take care of all of us. I can see how if the business were having a busy night where things could get backed up, but tonight no issues. The Pho was a good, standard bowl, broth was tasty and meat was nice. Coming from the big city with many Pho choices, this bowl could have been a little larger and perhaps had an option for tendon, but for Chardon, it is a fine soup. Went here recently hoping it would have improved as they advertised that they were under new management. Honestly, it was awful. Only one server in the place. Waited 20 mins to be seated in an empty place. When we went to order they said they were out of rice, at 7 pm on a Friday night! Rice, in a Chinese restaurant! And the place is DIRTY. The carpet is so dirty and greasy your feet slide when you walk on it. And don't look at the walls and ceiling. They are dingy, dusty, and dirty. I don't want to know about the kitchen! Very good for quick, Chinese takeout. We did order and pick it up, since right now it is takeout only. The prices are fair and reasonable and you do get a large portion of food. We started off with the steamed dumplings and I thought they were some of the best I have had, they are large and have lots of filling. Next, we got wonton soup, which was wonderful. However, I could do without the lettuce pieces in it. The general tso chicken was big and the sauce was tasty, but the chicken could have been less fatty/breaded. I did enjoy all of the sauces and the rice. I loved how the combo dinners came with rice and egg rolls, such a nice touch. I've been to Yangtze a few times now, and the experience is generally the same - they focus more on quantity over quality. The food is average quality, but you get an enormous amount of it. The lunch menu is a particularly good deal. I got the Moo Goo Gai Pan entree (essentially a stir fry with chicken, vegetables, and white rice) and split a side of Pork Fried Rice with another person. The entree would probably have been enough, but the fried rice is really good and I couldn't pass it up. Doesn't look like much from the outside or inside, but the food is always good and plentiful. The staff is iffy, sometimes short tempered and brusque, sometimes teens who look like they are not sure where they are. A good place for take away. read more

There's more than one Chinese restaurant in this town and I suggest you choose the other. This is based on four separate attempts. The only reason for multiple visits would be because my girlfriend likes the Pork Fried Rice here. Food is fair to midland - nothing special so don't anticipate being "wowed". Service is fair though the young blond lady at the front on the weekends is less than pleasant. Make sure you have time to wait as well, especially if you call and place an order by phone. Quoted 20-25 minutes and it'll be closer to 40 minutes. This last round is going on 45 minutes and counting. The decor is severely outdated and nothing special so no stars for uniqueness. Carpet is due to be replaced for sure. Yangtze earned 2 stars because the duck isn't bad at all. Try the other place in town would be my final suggestion. read more

Very good Chinese located in Chardon Square. If you're in the mood for Chinese, this is a great spot to check out. You can dine in and overlook the square or order carry out which is always available within 20 minutes of ordering. They do not deliver. I used to eat here two years ago , before COVID , and it was very good. Then I didn't go into restaurants for a while and then when I stared going back, Some weren't as good. It was disappointing. After reading some of the latest reviews we decided to try their food. Had a taste for Chinese food. We ordered the egg rolls - not terrible, but nothing great either. We ordered the hot and sour soup. All I tasted was vinegar, we did not eat it and dumped it in the toilet. We also ordered the wonton soup, what a disappointment, there was really no filling in the noodles, broth lacked flavor and the beef pieces tasted old. We dumped most of this as well. The pork fried rice was ok, again nothing special. The last thing we ordered was the Hunan Chicken. Although it states it is spicy it was not, the sauce was also very runny. Ive been here twice and its always the same. The restaurant is not overly nice and it is old. But it is clean and you can tell there is a family running this place. Our service was great and they accommodated our vegetarian. It seemed like they would make her whatever she wanted. We were taking out and showed up 10 minutes before closing. Not an issue. They placed our order and it was unbelievably hot when we got home 20 minutes later. Its not fancy, but it delivers on taste for what it is. I had the singapore noodles with shrimp and I cannot complain. I don't live that close and its out of the way. Ni hao! Welcome to a quaint little secret on the Far East of Cleveland. Yangtze doesn't Shanghai you with over the top fancy (and sometimes ridiculously not authentic) or incredibly cheesy Chinese decor. They do however, spoil you in the details. I, myself, am a noodle man and love the lo mein. Its packed with flavor and can come like a majority of their other dishes with beef, chicken, shrimp, tofu or vegetarian. Plus, you can get extra la (that spice in Chinese) if you so dare. The portions are generous and have always come out hot and ready to eat. As the steam clears on your dish of choice something catches your eye: a flower made from slices of carrot. Beautiful. The prices are on par with your in-and-out Americanized Chinese Mall Restaurants (the broccoli and chicken, General Tso's, etc) but are no where near as cookie-cutter blah (or over salty). The only thing that prevents this Ancient Chinese Secret (hey, its been around since I was born) from achieving the highest honor of a 5 Star General (Mao) is that I've been to China multiple times, and it just quite isn't the same... but for those who can't afford the plane ticket, be sure rev up the rickshaw and get down to the Yangtze. Chinese on the Square you've made a solid choice if you stop in here. Very clean well managed and the food preparation is excellent. Not your typical Chinese restaurant for the surrounding area I consider it a little more upscale in a pleasant setting. If you want a place to go for holiday dining with good service and hot food don't stop here. The past two holidays we went there to eat and waited for over 30 minutes for service and another 30 plus minutes for are food which the order was wrong and food was cold.The place was crowded and and everyone else was waiting to for service and food as we just decided to leave the table next to us said good idea and left to. They only had one person busing, serving and taking orders what a joke and this is how it is always here. Sadly the resturant's quality continues to slip. The menu has been severly stripped of many of the formally great selections. The batter used on the shrimp was pancake batter and the rice the came with the meal was obviously prepared many hours before and left uncovered to become dry and chewy. We went in at 4:30 pm for an early supper but the inexperienced waiter was quickly over run with to go orders and other patrons, and strangely did not know the difference between sweet and sour and duck sauce.
