Came back to try their Katsu and had to change my rating. Their pork/chicken katsu is $7.50 and comes with rice, salad, miso soup, a cup of tea, and a generous portion of fried katsu. There are two different ways of making katsu, either keeping the meat thick (generally Japanese way), or flattening the pork loin super thin before frying (Korean way). This place does it the latter, which is probably my preference. Everything tastes good, the katsu stays crispy, and it costs about half of what you'd pay for katsu at any other restaurant. yum!

why are you not eating this right now

You don't come here for the sushi or the teriyaki or for anything else but for one thing and one thing only. The pork katsu (...and maybe the chicken katsu but mostly just the pork katsu). For only $6 you too can experience one of the best pork katsus in the GTA. Salad, rice, and a perfectly breaded pork cutlet. Is there really anything else you need in life? I can't even begin to count how many times I've eaten here but I have never had a bad experience once and the owner is always super friendly. It will be a sad sad day in First Markham Place food court history if this place ever closes.

Tonkatsu Dinner Combo comes with miso soup and 5 sushi or 6 California rolls

Like this place because the food is good and the price is very good. I got a tonkatsu combo which has a choice of miso soup or pop and 5 sushi or 6 California rolls for $10. The katsu is good not oily at all, maybe because I came late and they have more time to cook better. The sushi is aright which I did not expect much for this price as long as quality is decent fresh. Would come here again for their katsu if you want good food but not pricey

Pork katsu dinner set with California roll ($10 HST included)

I'm honestly not sure how this place can afford to be in business with such cheap and filling meals. $5.75 + HST for a pork katsu meal that includes salad, rice and soup/pop? It's been at least 8 years since I first eyed my friend's takeout box at school and decided I needed to get one for myself next time I went.... and I've been going ever since. It's not going to be the best katsu (I find the katsu hard). They don't make the best rolls. But they do provide some of the best service, the same Korean lady has been running it for as long as I've known and all the sauces are provided up front in case you wanted extra tonkatsu sauce. I think all prices are carefully selected to round to a convenient number after tax (eg. $6.50 in the case of the pork katsu). Cash and debit only.

Chicken katsu $7 included tax with drink or soup

Big Portio, I couldn't finish my dinner. The katsu is just okay... the oil they use for deep fried wasn't fresh oil. However, Good price for the food.

I recently visited this restaurant for an early lunch and found the experience to be a mix of…read morepositives and notable drawbacks. The establishment has a casual dine-in setup, offering a relaxed atmosphere suitable for a quick meal or a short break during the day. Despite being a dine-in restaurant, all food is served in takeout boxes, which, while convenient for those on the go, slightly diminishes the overall dining experience for those choosing to eat on the premises. The food quality itself was acceptable. Reasonably portioned, adequately seasoned, and prepared in a timely manner. While it may not stand out as exceptional, it fulfills the expectations for a casual meal. However, the main issue that significantly impacted my experience was the cleanliness of the tables. The first table I sat at had a noticeably sticky surface, which immediately raised concerns about hygiene and maintenance. Assuming it was an isolated case, I moved to a second table, only to encounter the same problem. A third attempt produced similar results, suggesting that this is not an isolated incident but rather a recurring issue throughout the dining area. A sticky table surface not only detracts from comfort but also gives the impression that cleaning practices are not being properly observed between guests. This, unfortunately, overshadowed what could have been a satisfactory meal. In summary, while the restaurant offers decent food at a fair value, the overall dining environment requires improvement, particularly in the table cleanliness and food presentation. Until this concern is addressed, I would recommend opting for takeout instead of dining in, as the food quality is adequate, but the in-house dining conditions fall short of acceptable standards.

The portions were actually quite generous for omakase, which was a nice surprise. There was a good variety throughout the course, from richer bites like uni and toro to lighter pieces that felt clean, delicate, and well balanced. I especially liked how fresh everything tasted, and a few of the pieces had that soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture that makes omakase feel special. The savory bites in between also kept the meal interesting and made it feel more complete rather than repetitive. The only small thing for me was the pace. The chef served everything a little too quickly, so it felt hard at times to slow down and fully enjoy each piece before the next one arrived. Still, the quality, portion size, and overall value made this a very worthwhile experience. If you are looking for an omakase in Toronto that feels satisfying without being overly expensive, Mizu Sushi Omakase is definitely a place I would keep in mind.

Taki is a fine dining Japanese restaurant located in the busy commerical areas of Richmond Hill…read more We recently had lunch here for a special occasion. The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

Was worried it wouldn't be filling, but it's just the right amount of food. Whether you're celebrating something special or just want a traditional Japanese meal, this would be my spot. The sushi chef was very friendly and approachable, but he wouldn't make you feel like you need to yap with him like other omakase I've been to in Toronto where they would talk to the customers a lot. The wait staff was attentive and polite. Overall really good quality sushi, service and value. Would come again! I also appreciate that they don't require a deposit for reservations and don't require to pick the set you want beforehand. Very clean and warm design. Felt like I was in Japan!

We added miso and side salad for added cost, but it was well worth it. Also took home a sushi for 2 and some sashimi (cut to order) and this dinner was also exceptional. They even carry a wide range of sake, plus other Japanese alcoholic and non‑alcoholic beverages, which makes it easy to pick up something special for dinner at home. My personal highlight is the sashimi‑grade fish. The quality is consistently excellent, and I love packing up a few pieces to make my own donburi at home.
