Most North American Greek places are pretty poor. The cooks are fine. The raw ingredients are not. Yamas is better. Lamb chops are absolutely superior. (Their tricks of the trade: A good lamb provider. Cutting the chops thin so all the meat gets the taste of the grill. Serving the chops the nanosecond they come off the fire. Other lamb chop restaurants - take note. You are being schooled.) They have potatoes to die for because they are grilled well and drenched in lemon juice. Take heavy food and make it light and refreshing. Sign me up. * * * Not everything here is magical. They apparently used up all the house lemons in the kitchen, So nearly none appear in the egg and lemon soup. The eggs got lonely and depressed. The Greek salad is as boring as dating a stamp collector. * * * But those two magnificent dishes make everything worthwhile. Years from now, when I am in the retirement home using a walker, I will be spending my days in chairs remembering the spectacular dishes of my youth. My craving for a variety of Greek flavors is almost satisfied. I like sampler plates but it seems these days you have to order a platter for two. I did. It was tasty. Included was a huge Greek salad, which did not have a lot of flavor, lamb, dolmas, spanakopita, moussaka, rice and roasted potatoes. Quite tasty and almost enough for three so there's one leftover. Service was excellent. A young Russian girl waited on us. The place was busy. Noise level a bit loud thanks to our group of seven. Prices reasonable. Nice cozy facility. I will return. read more

My husband and I went here for the very first time the other day and were immediately impressed by the warm greeting and comfortable atmosphere. Our server was delightful and came to our table just enough, she was knowledgeable and made great recommendations. The martinis are awesome! The food was delicious, I had moussaka and my husband had the roast lamb. The portions were generous and we ended up taking some home. We had a chance to visit Yamas for the first time with some friends. The atmosphere is wonderful and authentically greek. The food was amazing, I had the greek ribs and they were fall off the bone and beautifully seasoned. I also like the fact they sell half carafes of wine. The food here is excellent. We usually order the chicken or lamb souvlaki and the portions are big enough to leave us leftovers for lunch. Tender succulent lamb and the most delicious potatoes. The Calamari is crispy and succulent and I like that they use the whole squid with the crispy tentacles and not calamari rings. One of our favorite restaurants. read more

Yamas serves delicious classic Greek food in a large and central location. The portions were very generous and our group of four left well fed with a platter for 2, two appetizers and one desert. Unfortunately it was very busy and the waitress a bit overwhelmed so we only received our wine after dinner but otherwise a good experience. read more

Had a good meal here last night. The mixed platter was the perfect dish to share and a Greek salad for some fresh veggie goodness. Service was prompt at first then settled down to a 3 out of 5. Then picked up near the end Of the meal. Funny how I ended up rating it that way. ( my iPhone keeps auto correcting grrrrrrr). The food was typical Green North American style. It seems that 95% of the Greek restaurants we've been to in Canada are what I call traditional tourist Greek food. It's like Japanese restaurants serving sushi. There's so much more to Greek food that you just can't get in Greek restaurants these days. So while we are here we decided to give them an average rating. We were hoping for more, something to give us that extra oomph of zest. Happily I must conclude that this is a very solid place to get traditional Greek food. Ok I'll give them 4 stars instead of 3. We ordered take out tonight and were blown away. Our lamb and shrimp were cooked perfectly! The calamari was still crunchy when we got it home. It is a treat for us to eat out right now and we loved every bite. All the veggies were fresh. I can't seem to understand why this hidden gem only has 2 reviews? While spending the weekend in Kelowna we had a hard time finding good food. We went to Yamas with low expectations but quickly realized the quality. The decorations, music, food and customer service were all TOP NOTCH! Love it!!! The food here is absolutely amazing and super authentic. The atmosphere is so cool and actually makes you feel like you are in Greece. Exceptional! Our server Patricia was amazing. Food, atmosphere, and options were fantastic. I felt the group was a tad needy at some points, but she was always quick and patient; which can be hard to do when you have several others waiting on you! Belly dancer came out and combined with the other guests children made for some great entertainment haha! Highly recommend this location, thanks Yamas for the great experience. Money well spent. I like Yamas' food, but I would call it average Greek fare with not-very-generous portions - especially for the price. Taste-wise, it is good but too pricey for the quality and portion size. Unfortunately for Kelowna residents, though, it is the best that the city has to offer for Greek food. Location is good, centrally located downtown. read more

If you're going to order the flaming cheese, the Saganaki, make sure you tell your server you don't want it flamed if you don't want to get charge $2.50 for it. The menu doesn't give you an option of having it flamed for an additional cost and the server when she asked us if we wanted it flamed never told us there was going to be a charge for it either. We got our bill and asked what the "flaming" charge was for, it was only $2.50 but it's the principal of things. We told the waitress if she could please take it off our bill cause we thought it was a pretty sneaky and shitty thing to do to your customers but replied she couldn't do so and that wasn't the first time customers had complained about this hidden charge. What started as a good night left a bitter taste in our mouth by the end of it. Good on you Yamas, you're scamming your customers, way to generate more business and create loyalty with the locals. read more
