This is a cute and cozy malaysian eatery. They specialty is soup. I tried their beef noodle pho with meatballs for a late takeout lunch. It was super busy but organized and quick. The prices are cheap and the food is tasty. They add a lot of veggies and you could get your noodles on the side if you wish. The popular items are laksa soup and the curries. I would come back and try other items. The interesting fact is that there is breakfast and some smoothie items in this Asian diner. read more

Mad mango has been open for about 13 years and has quite the customer base. If you go at peak times or on the weekend there is usually a lineup. Very casual atmosphere. Both my parents are from Singapore and I grew up eating authentic Singaporean/Malaysian dishes. I've been back to Singapore as well as a young adult and ate at many of the popular restaurants and hawker food courts. I've had many bowls of laksa in my lifetime. I think Pat's (the owner) motto of wanting to offer good and affordable food that everyone can enjoy is very sweet. "Everyone should have the privilege to have a decent meal that doesn't cost them much". She makes a point to remember people's names and what they like to order. She works extremely long hours and is such a hard worker with a really big heart. I really admire and commend that. We ordered: Sticky rice, Laksa soup & Veggie curry rice. All the broth for the dishes in the category "Curry Soups" are the same. So if you're feeling like you want the laksa but would rather have rice - you can get the veggie, chicken, beef, lamb or prawn curry rice instead. Food came out very quickly. I tried my fiancés laksa broth and it was the same as my veggie curry. This is not laksa that I grew up with or have had elsewhere, it is thinner in consistency and doesn't have the same richness or toppings that I'd typically see in a laksa. I would just call it a coconut curry soup. But it was still a yummy coconut curry soup! I really liked it because of the amount of veggies and the variety of veggies I got. My Indonesian friend loves this place, we will be back :) read more

Returned to have the Beef Pho. I found that the broth was a touch salty, but quite flavourful whereas my wife thought the amount of salt was fine. Rather than the beansprouts, Thai basil, a wedge of lime, and whole chili pepper on the side as I've usually had it, the beansprouts were just piled on top of the beef in the bowl. There was no basil which I understand might be difficult to find in a smaller city, but I was offered fresh cilantro and chili oil instead. A little disappointing, and I would suggest to the owner that they might consider growing some Thai basil which would definitely make this dish better. And I would expect that fresh chilis would be relatively easy to come by as would the lime. As it was, the pho was tasty, better than some I've had, and quite reasonably priced. A few small changes would make this much better however. read more

OMG THE RICHARD SOUP IS ABSOLUTELY INSANELY AMAZING!!!! What a gem. 5 stars for that soup alone. It has such a depth of flavour I'm so obsessed I will never not get that soup while in Kelowna. Layers and layers of flavour it's perfected. It's like a red curry freshly flavoured chicken soup with perfectly cooked veggies and wonton dumplings. Which you don't even taste the beautiful sesame flavour until you bite into the wontons! Omg it's amazing. The other food we ordered was only ok. Ordered the chicken salad rolls and sweet & sour pork dish too. I will absolutely be back for the soup. I can't get over how flavourful it was. A must try while in Kelowna. M.M. read more

I ordered two smoothies. The person at the til ( who handles cash etc) put her fingers deep inside the cups to hand them to another, who grabbed lids and shoved them down into the cups to take them to the mixing station. Some heavy plastic part flew off the table as she was mixing (lid, base... I'm not sure) and it fell on the floor then rolled until it stopped at my feet. The server picked it up, took it back to the mixing table and continued to mix the smoothies (no washing). I don't know how people don't get sick from eating here. read more

sooooo... maybe the asian food is more limited in this neck of the woods. But man there was a line up for this (what i would associate it under singaporean/malay cuisine) cafe. Please note that their curries.. all of them, are all like laksa curry. Soupy, lots of flavor. Not like.. the japanese (more dense) like curries. Definitely not the thai or indian curries. It was flavorful for sure. And I love the flavor of laksa. Why only three stars? Because all their curry/laska tasted the same. And mannnn are they stingy with their protein. My chicken curry.. was a bowl of soup (not laksa, but tasted like it), with possibly 4-5 clumps of chicken. I still like the laksa. And the prices is relatively cheap, if only you were getting more veggies and protein. Instead of it just being a bowl of flavorful soup, and potatoes. Service was friendly. And seating was stuffy, and whee bit difficult. Definitely room for improvement. But hey. I love laksa :) read more

We were in kelowna for a day and came here for breakfast. Since we wanted to try the famous laksa we decided to have early lunch. We got laksa and lamb curry with rice. Both the dishes were really good. The soup for laksa was so good it was thick, creamy and delicious.the seafood was cooked perfectly. The lamb curry was also pretty good. The prices are also very reasonable. Definitely worth coming. read more

Mad Mango was a recommendation from a friend who allegedly visited 4 times on a one week trip for the Laksa noodles. The broth was certainly a standout - deep with a lot of body and flavour, but I found the noodles and contents to leave something to be desired. However, the food is fantastic value - it is very cheap with a central location in Kelowna. Fantastic spot for yummy and cheap food. This cute joint deserves another visit. read more

Fast service, cheerful, no-nonsense staff, good food and cramped quarters for a low price. Perfect! The lunch special, beef vermicelli with fish sauce, was great, lots of vegetables, and only $5. Not a lot of subtle flavors in the beef sauce, but at that price who can argue. Just what I wanted. read more

Waited about 5 mins outside to get a table, not bad considering they were super busy for 12:30 pm and the Bernard street festival just outside. Seated, ordered, received food. Really quick service! Got some salad rolls (missing mint), laksa (veggies still raw), chicken curry roti (a little too thickish) and peaches and prawns (pretty tasty!). Overall the food was excellent, and decently priced. Decided to get a lychee smoothie for the road as we left! Would definitely go back for some cheap eats. I would say I've had better for each item above elsewhere though. read more

Best Laksa in town. We've been coming for years and love the food. The owners are wonderful! She's always asking about the kids and actually remembers our favourites. The Laksa is also a cure for the common cold. If I feel terrible I order take out. The spice is amazing! Not rip your face off but spicy flavour perfection! It always makes me feel better and clears my sinuses. Always order takeout when not feeling great because it is a tight little restaurant and no one wants to share your germs! read more

Inexpensive fast food. Pho just when you need it! I got a beef pho with vermicelli ($6.5) and it was satisfying. Soft raw beef, flavourful soup, and a good portion for the price. I did have three slices of buttered toast with mango jam from my brother's breakfast and I fell in love with the jam. read more

For what it's worth, this little nook in the wall is ace! I have been raving about this place ever since my last trip to Kelowna - 2 years ago. I was so excited to be back for the locally-crowned favourite Laksa! The inside is narrow and there are not many tables. It is always packed. We noticed many people ordering take-out. A good thing too. There never seems to be enough tables! Water is self-served. They have a little water station toward the back of the shop. Help yourself! The Laksa was still as good as I remembered it. It tasted fresh, flavourful, and had an excellent combination of spices. It might benefit from a little more thickness, but that is all I have to say about it! OK, one more: perhaps egg noodles could also be brought into the Laksa. That is all! There are other Vietnamese style foods on the menu, as well as Wonton soup - the other favourite! The prices remained fair and affordable. I can see why the locals have learned to love Mad Mango for its cheap and delicious breakfast and lunches! read more

Not sure why it is rated so exceptionally high since the food is incredibly mediocre. Fusion is not the correct term. This is its own food, not fusion. The chicken vermicelli bowl is served in teriyaki sauce.... teriyaki sauce! Not grilled... the only plus side is that it is relatively inexpensive, which is why we came on our way back to vancouver. The service is friendly but probably the most disorganized and non systematic. Good things to know before getting yelled at by the "boss lady" is dont just take a seat and sit down, it could be reserved by someone ordering their food at the till. We did not know since we are not regulars here. There is no one seating you at the door and no signs, so you may awkwardly stand there until someone notices you. The atmosphere is casual, lively and colourful... but I think kelowna is really lacking authentic south east asian food and as a result, this place becomes 4 stars.. read more

Cheap and delicious Southeast Asian dishes with good portions, hard-working staff, and hectic atmosphere at peak hours. The room is a little dumpy, but clean enough. The sticky rice is savory Vietnamese style, not Thai Style, so be careful - we ordered it and weren't expecting the chunk of mystery sausage in the middle. Fair enough, but it would have been nice if they labeled it "Vietnamese sticky rice" for those of us who expect/miss Thai style. All the food is yummy, and fairly simple in a good way. I found the curry to be on the salty side, but it was served - like everything else - just how I remember it in Southeast Asia. read more

Great find! Authentic Asian cuisine with an emphasis on soups. The soup bowls are large and come full of fresh vegetables. The prawns are fully cleaned before they come to you so feel free to indulge in them, they're delicious! The sweet and sour sauce was great and I would have the dish again. It would be great if they had brown rice. Also don't be fooled by the decor. Its really basic, but the great, fresh food and awesome service more than makes up for it. read more

Doesn't look like a lot when you walk past, but the food and drinks (particularly their milkshakes and smoothies) are PHENOMENAL. Cute little hole in the wall brunch/lunch place. Wish they had a bigger location, but it's a nice area and I always look forward to eating there especially in the summer when it's nice enough to walk around outside. read more

Awesome curry, great prices, can't recommend enough. Space is small, but the service is fast, so in the two times we went we didn't wait more than 1 minute. The laksa curry was delicious, and a large serving, couple pieces of beef, couple of shrimp, tons of veggies. My friend got a sweet and sour dish, and it looked a bit weak on the meat content, but he still enjoyed it. read more

You walk in and it's always bumping and bartender is always making funky and cool drinks and everyone's always having a great time. Lots of conversation between friends or even between strangers at the bar. Service was always great. The best dish is the brussel sprouts - it always has something funky in it - marshmellows or grapes and then cheese. It was so enjoyable and they truly believed in their culinary art. I've always appreciated their evolution of their dishes and it was never boring to come back again and again. As Salt & Brick has an evolving fresh sheet menu, you never know what's on the menu but they usually have a few staples like their Brussel sprouts. As this was my boyfriend's first time here, we ordered the Brussell sprouts with popcorn and the Rigatoni. We were given the regular menu but did inquire about Happy Hour and the Brussel sprouts, pastas, and charcuterie board were on special. Unfortunately, they didn't have any oysters available that day. Small cozy atmosphere with a cute front porch. It's a small bar and kitchen that you can see and wonderful that you see and hear all the food being freshly made to order. Our server was friendly, chatty, and attentive but also gave us our space too. The Brussel sprouts served with cheddar popcorn, grapes, and ripped beer cheese is a bit salty, sweet, and so satisfying! My partner doesn't love Brussel sprouts but really enjoyed this dish. The Rigatoni was a bit rich with a nettle became sauce but served with the earthy lily spears, it was a well rounded dish altogether that we also enjoyed. Cute restaurant on the Downtown main strip that isn't a major chain, which is refreshing. Will continue to visit next time in town and hopefully they will have oysters then!

This is the most bright lunch place you can go to in the downtown core. This korean/italian fusion is fun and really represents the food well. The way they make it balances out and it just makes total sense. The Tofu is my favorite dish and it's usually the one I start with. Their pastas are fun to get and it's very consistent. Sometimes, it's nutty and sometimes it's salty. Dependent on the menu, you can get a variety of fusion foods. I always choose to get a really cool cocktail with my meal because it is usually a highlight for me.
