Don't believe the reviews on this place. I'm not sure why everyone is so critical. The portions were great, service was friendly, everything was absolutely tasty. The vibes were good it wasn't too crowded. Some of the helpers on here must just want to waste food because we had an outrageous amount of food. My husband is 6'4 AYCE means all you can eat & he ATE!

We live in Los Angeles, right next to the ocean, and come from a place where sushi and Korean BBQ are everywhere -- and I can honestly say Yama Sushi is better than a lot of spots back home. I came here with my girlfriend and our 2-year-old daughter and was seriously impressed. The spicy tuna roll and the bulgogi were hands down my favorites -- fresh, flavorful, and done right. There was an older Asian lady running the floor by herself, serving us and about three other tables, and she was incredibly attentive the entire time. Never felt rushed, never ignored. I don't understand how this place is under 4 stars -- those reviews are straight BS. This is easily my favorite place to eat in Redding. We will absolutely be coming back.

Tried Yama Sushi for the first time this week and had a pleasant experience. The servers were friendly, helpful, and quick to take our order. We settled on some edamame and potstickers as an appetizer as well as a couple sushi rolls and a hand roll. Overall, the food was well cooked and had good flavor. Most of the items we would order again except the chicken, which is more a personal preference rather than it not being done well. They offer the cool sushi boat bar for lunch which looks worth a try. My only qualm was the restaurant itself. It was really run down and had a weird smell. The tables were short in comparison to the benches we sat on.

Miss coming to this place but love the happy albacore roll. To go rolls are always great and the staff are friendly. The place was clean and quiet when I arrived.

Yama Sushi seems more of a Korean BBQ place than a real sushi place. I mean there's still plenty of sushi or order. I was here with a friend and wanted sushi, not really into KBB, as I really don't wanna hafta cook my own food at the table. You get all smoky smelling after dinner too. We ordered some rolls cause my friend likes rolls more than the real nigiri raw fish experience. It seem to take a long tome for the rolls to get served, but maybe they were just busy. I don't expect a authentic Japanese sushi experience here in Redding, where there's few Japanese people around, but I was hoping for a competent skilled sushi experience. ... even if it is just rolls. The rolls seem a little over piled with other stuff than the actual fish. They tasted OK, sort of on the sweet side but would make the less experienced diner happy and that's what my friend is so it's all good. Not what I'd order, but we had a fine time.

Side dishes were also bad, everything tastes salty.

This was by far the worst KBBQ experience I've ever had. The food quality was incredibly poor meat was tough, poorly marinated, and looked questionable. But what made it even worse was the owner's behavior. Despite clearly advertising an all-you-can-eat (AUCE). Completely unprofessional and felt like a scam. Avoid this place at all costs, there are far better KBBQ spots in California that actually respect their customers.

Our server was kind and attentive, we were seated quickly, our drinks never sat empty. I've tried this place before and originally (during COVID) was unimpressed, since it was during the pandemic I figured we should give it another chance. Which was one of the best decisions we've ever made. The food was fresh the drinks are cold the service was fantastic. Let's go down the checklist: The restaurant was clean. The atmosphere was wonderful they even had the boats running again. (On certain days) The service was fantastic. The food was delicious and well prepared. And the food quality and quantity to price was very well balanced. That earns Yama Sushi a five-star rating from this Professional Critic.

Cinderella Roll

Excellent food. Excellent service. This is a little out of the way but is a great place for sushi in Redding. We went for lunch on a Saturday. They were prompt and the rolls tasted great. The Cinderella roll has a nice crunch and the crazy roll is just a bit spicy. The mochi was chewy and delicious. Definitely will come back.

Sushi boats

Very good sushi. Surprisingly busy for a Tuesday but we were well taken care of. The all you can eat lunch special is a fun parade of boats filled with fresh plates of food circling the center of the restaurant. Everything was very good. We will definitely be back for more sushi and we are excited to try the Korean BBQ too

This review is for the Korean BBQ side only. The meats are deliciously marinated. Our favorites were the bulgogi and the marinated pork belly. The marinated chicken was good, the garlic chicken was just salty (no garlic). The gyoza was tasty. The California rolls were salty. I haven't been to a Korean BBQ with table top grills since the Palace in Santa Clara was still open. There was a lovely lady playing piano as well. Will definitely be back :)

Over-priced, very average Sushi. Sashimi cuts are very small. Service was just okay; language barrier did not help.

The only thing I really enjoyed about the meal was the salad. This could've been a bad piece of chicken and meat at the same time. I have no idea, but I am so very disappointed, I'm not even going to eat the rest of it, it's that tough and dry. Your choice if you want to go here, totally up to you. It's got a lot of great reviews, but with my review, it's just very disheartening. Just a waste of money tonight. There were a handful of people at the bar, but the restaurant itself was fairly quiet. When we first walked in, there was a pretty strong odor that smelled like a dirty mop. After we had been seated for a while, we either got used to it or it became less noticeable. We started with a couple of Moscow Mules and the queso and chips. The Moscow Mules had a nice presentation, but unfortunately, they were extremely bitter. I suspected it might have been the type of ginger beer they were using. When our server checked on us, I mentioned it, and he and the bartender both tasted the ginger beer themselves. They immediately agreed that it had a very bitter taste and wasn't good. Our server explained that they had recently switched to that brand. My recommendation would be to switch it out again because it really affected the drinks. The queso and chips were just okay. The queso was extremely watery and had almost a soupy consistency. The chips, however, were fresh, crisp, and tasted good. Our server was attentive and did a great job throughout our visit, which I appreciated. I didn't try any of the main courses, so I can't comment on the food beyond what we ordered. Overall, our experience was just okay. The service was good, but the odor, bitter Moscow Mules, and watery queso kept the visit from being anything particularly memorable.

We will be back for dining! Our drinks were so yummy, the bartenders did great, I was having drinks brought to me so I didn't get to do see it at night but I know the area got a bit dark and chilly Apologies for that! Your staff are completely professional, they came and said goodnight to us, I could tell they were sober and even some guests tried to get them to drink and they refused {That's a good thing, maintaining being professional). I can't recall if we discussed this but they brought wine over to the tables at dinner time, so if we didn't they were just super proactive. I know most guests wanted mixed drinks so I heard our beer and wine guy learned to mix on the fly. Bless you for that!! If we had gone different bar vendor we would've been so screwed if we had to bring up our own alcohol because our car was totally packed. (A lot of other bar vendors are dry bars, you supply the liquor and they supply everything else, but not Odells', they do it all!) We got so many compliments on our mixed drinks. And we were both so happy with how they turned out. They were the perfect amount of alcohol (I've been to weddings where some have barely any and others where the drinks are so strong that they're gross!) also they announced last call!! So important when you lose track of time! Also side note, a month out from our wedding. We went and ate at the restaurant location as well and the food was so yummy!!! If we didn't have our caterer already we probably would've considered their food too. Y'all came in clutch though for the bar, it was booked only a few months out from my wedding date and one of the last most important vendors I booked. I booked y'all too cus I did not have confidence in who I was originally going to book for my bar and your team was the BEST. Thank you Ashley for replying to all of my silly emails and questions.
