From the moment you walk in, there's a welcoming Japanese aesthetic that sets the tone. Hanging cherry blossoms add a touch of whimsy, and the classic sushi bar look brings authenticity. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the spicy tuna to the salmon to the yellowtail. The fish was fresh, flavorful, and sliced just right. We especially loved the Friday Platter Plate--it felt like such a good deal for the quality and variety we got. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We never felt rushed, and our server answered all our questions kindly. We left full, happy, and already talking about when to come back.
Not bad for AYCE place in the area. Food was okay. Fresh with typical low grade sushi rice. The sushi cut was good size. The tempura options are not bad. For the price, we should expect some Sashimi, which they don't have. Only Carpaccio style and limited to 1 plate/person - 2 pcs. The rolls and fried item were not bad. I didn't get any stomach ache. It's a good sign of good quality fish and food. Service was fast since they are not that many customer. The team were friendly and attentive. You can order a la carte. Location is on the main street side. Facing the street. Standard modern restaurant.
Came in originally for al carte, but I convinced myself to try the ayce lunch menu. Ordered a lot of nigiris, some handrolls, baked rolls, and appetizers for a total of three rounds. Super full by the end of the meal. I was a little hesitant at first about the authenticity of the restaurant, but I was pleased that the fish was fresh and good quality. My only comment is that the rolls fell apart super easily, possibly something that could be improved upon! The server was great! She came by to check in on us multiple times and I loved that she would sing along to the radio every once in a while!
It was an okay AYCE experience. Service was really lovely from our waitstaff, however the food was a bit lacking. Most sushi restaurants also have this vibe where chefs are ecstatic and say hello or at least acknowledge us, but we didn't sense that kind of vibe at all. Rice makes or breaks it for me and it was pretty inconsistent throughout my meal. I despise hard, under-seasoned rice. It was cooked, however it tasted like it was in the fridge for quite some time. Appetizers like fried calamari were overcooked, chicken karaage a bit undercooked... Fish was a bit inconsistent as well...throughout our first round we got some cuts that were somewhat fishy, but that's okay, we'd get less of that cut and got more of the fish that weren't fishy the next round...but we ended up being duped and got fishy fish that was fresher tasting the last round.. Also I'm not a fan of end parts for nigiri sushi...They could've reserved them for maki or roll sushi so the slices of fish were inconsistent as well. We'd get center cuts one round but the next we'd get end pieces. Just the overall inconsistency with fish makes the experience a little lackluster. And the wasabi was a hard pass. I would've gladly paid more if they offered fresh wasabi. Gari was a bit dried out too. They both lost the pungency so it seems they went stale as well. Overall, we found other items like miso soup, fried tempura, and the carpaccio to be the most fulfilling. I'd recommend getting those as they were somewhat decent. If I were to come here again, I think I'd opt out of AYCE and just do the regular menu or do take out. This AYCE just seems like a "roll out whatever left they have in the kitchen before it spoils" kinda thing, so I'd much rather choose to go somewhere else instead for AYCE.
Came here for the first time recently fur the All you can eat sushi, and had a good experience. This is located is a small strip of various businesses and had plenty of parking. The restaurant was very clean and the decor was very cute and minimalistic. The staff were very nice and our server gave us lots of recommendations. The AYCE menu has a lot to choose from, including appetizers. We all tried so many things like the spicy edamame, gyoza, miso soup, mussels, and of course lots of yummy sushi. Just like most all you can eat places they charge you if you don't finish everything, including the rice. But you are allowed to take 2 pieces to go, per person. I enjoyed the various sushi and it was pretty fresh tasting. One of our favorites was the Hawaiian roll which we ordered twice. We also enjoyed a dragon roll that the server recommended. I also loved the flavorful miso soup, and the spicy edamame, which had just the right amount of kick to it. I think my only wish is I would have liked to see some real crab in the sushi, as I mostly saw imitation krab on the menu. It was still very good, but I think that would have made it that much better. The price was very reasonable and they even let you use coupons if you have them. If you're in the area I'd suggest you give it a try if you are craving sushi.
Came in for All You Can Eat. Pretty decent menu with good options. Truthfully, the sushi was ehhh. It was good but eh. Maybe I didn't order the right rolls! Plus everything had so much rice in it. The rice was either super hard or total mush. The service was great though. Very attentive and friendly. My servers name was Grant. He was so great and nice. We had a lot of random questions and Grant was so patient with us so shout out to him and his awesome service!

I appreciate that the nigiri had extra elements on it to add depth. The soft shell crab hand roll was good. Wish the hand roll and nigiri had more meat. Cuts seemed thinner. Would like to try the all you can eat (AYCE) sometime and taste more of their menu.
My wife and I came for Thursday lunch $33 AYCE sushi and we were the only people dining in. The server was very attentive and friendly. Overall the food was good and we would come back for the AYCE sushi lunch. The good: - Salmon salad had hot crispy cooked salmon with soft ripe avocado. - Avocado tempura was also amazing because it was piping hot and crispy. - Nigiri fish to rice ratio was not bad. The bad: - eel hand roll: had wayyyy too much eel sauce so it was very sweet and salty. - Tempura shrimp: I didn't like the panko on the tempura shrimp. It roughs up my gums and I prefer tempura batter. - Spider tempura: was mostly the crab skin and overall not a good taste or texture. Skip! - Calamari: it's panko battered and over fried
Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): If there were SIX stars I would award them from a Sushi lover who has been to Japan three times! How was the food? GREAT! We arrived and were quickly seated by the professional staff led by Hector. I was pretty skeptical given my lackluster experience with sushi buffets in the past. THIS PLACE IS A GAME CHANGER. Customers are served sequentially. this incurs a small delay BUT you get your food HOT and FRESH! Every single item was spectacular. The rice was fluffy and perfectly cooked, the menu items that were fried, baked, seared were cooked and flavored amazingly well. Point blank, I would have happily paid for ANY item we ate on the menu as its own meal. Even the salad was amazing! My son put it best, "This is the best restaurant I've been to in San Diego, EVER". Buffets often go cheap on fish and heavy on rice, this was the opposite. Ultra fresh and the rolls and especially hand rolls were spectacular. We enjoyed quite a few items on the menu during our 1.5 hr stay. All the seafood was well flavored, spiced and hot (if cooked). The hand rolls were teeming with fresh fish and fresh cucumber in carefully wrapped goodness. Other notables, the EEL! Absolutely the best I've ever had in the states, not in a buffet, but outside Japan anywhere in the USA. The baked roll (Dynamite) we tried was a life changer. ORDER IT! The Calamari in every form was tender, well cooked, and hot. I also loved the refreshing Sushi salad - perfect. There were really no misses in anything we tried, and many "best of" for San Diego and that's amazing in an "all you can eat" format. Cleanliness The restaurant was clean, properly lit, logically laid out and a wonderful sushi counter. Service The staff were clearly well trained and we had better service than I've ever experienced in an eatery. The young man and lady constantly picked up dishes and took great care of our table. Conclusion Like the Terminator, "WE WILL BE BACK!"
Exceptionally good food and wonderful service! Yakumi Sushi is a great place for a date night, dinner with family/friends, or even if you just want to treat yourself. The restaurant is clean and modern, table seating and bar seating available. They have a couple TVs behind the bar and you can see the sushi chefs preparing everything right in front of you. We ordered chicken katsu bento, chicken gyoza, and tuna maki. Everything tasted so fresh and well seasoned. My husband said the sushi rice was a revelation; flavorful and complex while still allowing the fish to take center stage. I was also very impressed with my bento. Katsu was fried well, meat was tender and not too fatty. The tempura was light and crispy and generously portioned. Our little one really enjoyed the gyoza and the miso soup (that came with the bento). Special shout out to the service here! It was taking a bit for the cooked food to come out, and even though we didn't say anything, the staff came to apologize and made an effort to compensate for the delay! The thoughtfulness and proactive service truly demonstrated how much they care about the customers' experience. Could not be happier with this new spot and will be coming back regularly!
I've been looking for a new sushi spot in our area and Yakumi didn't disappoint. Bonus that they also serve ramen here. We had mixed tempura appetizer and a couple of rolls, along with a bowl of ramen with pork. The ramen was good and filled me up, while both rolls were good (crunchy roll and Poway roll). Service was good and the food came out fast. We were promptly seated and helped by a few different people. Restaurant was clean inside, with plenty of seating, and plenty of parking out front. We will return, and will try some different rolls or bento boxes.
This is our new go-to sushi place! The fish is just so fresh and the flavors are on point! Plus the staff is all so kind and welcoming and very attentive. Very much worth the drive from Escondido! The restaurant is always so clean and they did an amazing job with placing all the tables. I don't feel crammed in there like I do at other sushi places. A fave is the G.T. Roll although it has quite a spicy kick I need to cool down with a few Philly roll pieces before having another G.T. bite. I've never been much of a fan of imitation crab, but my boyfriend ordered the Volcano roll and I was shocked at how much I liked it! I would order it again. We were excited to try the Golden Eyes roll this time, but honestly felt like it was missing some flavor. It looks cute for the 'gram but I would not order again. Love coming here, it's one of those places where I look forward to eating my way through the menu!
Sad they are closed now. Came here with the lady craving sushi since we were in the Poway area already and to be honest been watching. If you're looking for AYCE sushi, they stopped offering this about 3 months ago. Instead, they now offer BOGO half off. Any rolls on the menu, including the specialty rolls, are buy one get one half off. It's a great deal and the fish is fresh. I took my daughter and niece here today to celebrate her Earth Day Birthday. We ordered the following: - Tempura udon (noodles for longevity) - Spicy salmon hand roll - Cowboy roll - Jack in the sushi roll - Salmon rolls Our server (and the serving robot) brought out a complimentary fried ice cream on a huge platter. They were very generous! It's 2 years in a row now that we celebrated my daughter's birthday here. We always receive very friendly service and the sushi never disappoints. read more

when a sushi restaurant changes its business model to include an AYCE menu, it's usually not a good sign. I gave it a try since it was the same price ($32.99) as the Sushi Deluxe combo which i reviewed for my first takeout visit. This time we dined in - the tables were clean, it was about 3pm so not busy at all. Slight smell of raw fishiness when you first walk through the door - also not a good sign. The hostess and servers were friendly and very attentive. No complaints at all about the service. Although the pics might look decent, the quality and freshness were just not there this time. Too many other better options in SD. I won't be back for a third time. read more
After we went to Escondido for the Animal Safari, we were looking for a place to enjoy a Japanese lunch at Yakumi fit the bill! Private parking lot, fresh food, attentive service and very clean. We ordered a kid's chicken teriyaki meal, pork and chicken gyozas, yakisoba and various rolls to share. Every roll was fresh and delish and gyoza was crispy and tasty! Great little sushi spot in Poway that is now situated in the old Sushi Lounge location. We usually go to Kai Sushi or Sushi Lounge but wanted to try some place new. Plus, service has been lackluster at our previous haunts so we decided to mix it up. Enter Yakumi Sushi. Not only is the service good, their rolls are outstanding. The fish is very fresh and they don't put a ton of rice in the rolls which I appreciate. I usually go with the co-habby but decided to introduce this spot to my picky co-workers who are very particular about their sushi. Needless to say, they approved. Some our favorite rolls in no particular order: Yakumi Lions Roll Cowboy Roll Yami King Roll Jack in the Sushi Rock N Roll We also get a side of Shrimp Tempura, spicy garlic edamame and the requisite glass of wine to go with. Definitely our new favorite place when we have sushi cravings. Friendly, fast service added to a pretty awesome lunch experience with my team. 5 stars! Note: parking is a bit tight as it's in a smaller shopping center so plan accordingly. read more
We were looking forward to eating here and it was so fresh and service was great. We were seated right away and order was taken. There were four of us and we had salmon and teriyaki chicken bento boxes, volcano roll, super dragon roll, yellow tail nigiri was very fresh, seared albacore nigiri, scallop nigiri, California roll, yellow tail collar all was great. It was nice and quiet. Will definitely be back. read more

We stopped by, starving, after playing pickleball nearby on a hot day. There was plentiful parking. Shout out to our waitress - super friendly and welcoming. Also absolutely hustling as the only server on staff that day. The restaurant was clean, bright, and spacious. We really enjoyed sharing at the rolls we ordered. Fresh and flavorful. The garlic sauce on the edamae was also insanely delicious. Swing by when you're in the area! read more
3.5 star review. The new winner in local Poway / Rancho Bernardo sushi restaurants. A "B" for food quality & variety, comfortable environment, good service at okay value prices. The only hiccup we encountered - the two appetizer dishes didn't come until the very end, and one of them, the manager ended up just comping us in a to go box. Among 3 people, we ordered a bunch of things to share. Appetizers: Yellowtail kama: pretty large piece, decently meaty, but I felt a touch under-seasoned and the skin wasn't crispy enough. Inside was kept juicy, deserving a "B" grade. Chicken karaage: this dish never came out as it wasn't ready until we finished everything and was about to pay & leave. The manager was super nice and ended up comping the dish in a to-go box. I tried a piece when I got home. Nice, light batter, but a touch under-seasoned. 3 types of nigiri where the rice was cooked nicely, a touch too much vinegar, but served at a good temperature. It's frustrating to get rice that's either too hot or too cold. Salmon nigiri: salmon was decently fresh, and ratio of fish to rice was fair. A little more fish, ideally a touch fattier would have been nice. I can let is squeeze by with a "B" given this is a neighborhood, rather than a destination sushi place. Unagi sushi: a fair balance of unagi to rice, but the unagi tasted rather mild. Slightly longer roast with a touch more sauce would have made a huge difference. As is, a "B-". Uni nigiri: at least they have it! But the uni wasn't fresh enough. One piece was fine - creamy, quite sweet. The other piece, however, wasn't as good - a touch fishy. So, I can only give this a "C+". The bento box was very nicely done. A "B+" overall. Miso soup had fair amount of miso, not watery like many other neighborhood Japanese restaurants. The salad tasted very fresh. Tempura was light and non-greasy. Chicken teriyaki was cooked very nicely, juicy with good flavor. I didn't get to taste the California roll - my daughter and wife got to them first. I'm sure I will come again, but feel the cooked dishes are stronger than the sushi / sashimi. read more
First time stopping here had a bento box. It was very good. Chicken was perfect Cali roll was one of the best. Service was great. 10 out of 10 stars yes I recommend this place. They make you feel welcome. And check on you and make sure food is to your liking. read more
I had a good dining experience and a great meal tonight. Two of the waitresses and the sushi chef were friendly. I like that they have a regular menu and an AYCE option. If you love sushi and you can eat, it's totally worth it to have AYCE. I loved caterpillar roll and eel nigri (a huge eel fan ). Everything else was great. I'll def come back when I'm hungry so i can try more food! read more
Unfortunately this dinning experience did not compare to the first time we dined here. We came in on a Thursday and the place was significantly empty, there were 2 other tables and no one sitting at the bar. A huge difference from the busy Friday night. Our server was extremely out of it, not sure if she was new or what, but after she took our order we asked her for ponzu sauce and she delivered the ponzu sauce to the table behind us. The table in front of us asked for extra ginger and she delivered the ginger to us. The same with a drink refill she would deliver the things to the wrong tables. The sushi rolls are nicely presented and we ordered: 1 rainbow roll - very fresh pieces of fish 1 rock n roll - fresh and decent sized 1 spicy tuna hand roll - good amount of tuna and fresh 1 Poway fantastic roll - issue with this one What made this experience not good was we found several foreign items (small pieces of hair) wrapped within our Poway Fantastic roll and on the plate when we were half way done. That grossed us out, knowing that we possibly ate part of it. They apologized and made us a different premium roll, but the way it was handled did not sit well with us. They said jokingly "that's red hair and no one back here has red hair". So it was like they were accusing us of planting the hair. Grant it my hair was tied back in a bun and I have highlighted hair, and my boyfriend has black hair. So even though the premium roll was good, the whole experience does not sit well with us and we'll not be back. We're bummed, but will find another sushi spot. read more

Came by here on a Friday night with my mom Kim who happens to work in the same plaza. She's been working in that plaza at the Barbershop for almost two decades and is still cutting hair to this day. She's seen businesses come and go for years and it is always interesting to see what business will move in. We have seen this restaurant in their remodel and renovation phases for well over a year and were excited to see that they were finally open! My mom headed over first after work to grab a seat in case it was busy. We were seated at the bar so we could see all the action! I was shocked to see how big of a space this restaurant occupied! All the years I've driven by this place, I have never been inside until now. We looked through their menu and decided on the Super Dragon Roll, Tokyo Roll, and Sushi Combo 1 with my choice of a yellowtail hand roll and spider hand roll. The food came out quickly and looked absolutely delicious! To preface, my mom is only recently opening up her world to sushi, especially of the raw fish variety so I am very careful about which ones I choose to introduce to her. She really enjoyed the Super Dragon Roll which is a go to for her. We then shared the remaining Tokyo Roll and she had the spider hand roll which she loved. The Sushi Combo 1 selections were delicious and I really enjoyed each and every piece. It is also an amazing value for 6 pieces of nigiri and two very good sized hand rolls! I seriously cannot wait to come back for that combo again and again. The spider hand roll was so good, we ordered two additional ones. They were so warm and crispy and delicious! I told my mom that the best way to eat hand rolls is once they come out so that the nori stays nice and crispy and she seriously enjoyed every bite. Overall the service and food at Yakumi were great and I will definitely be coming back again. It's nice to have another good sushi spot that I can frequent! I might give the Sushi Deluxe combo a try next time to see what variety of nigiri is offered. I do recommend calling and making a reservation if you want to avoid a wait as it did fill up pretty well on a Friday night. I assume at some point they will have an online reservation system for a smoother process, but for now be sure to call in! Came here to try their AYCE, sushi is just okay. I think we enjoyed the appetizers better than the sushi. What's really disappointing was after the 2nd round, they never came back again to see if we still want to order. It's a very small restaurant with limited seating and they're packed, but they should still be checking on all the customers. We waited so long and decided to just pay the tab and leave. For sure we're not coming back, we didn't feel welcome. read more
The food was awesome tonight for an ayce dinner for 4. All of the sushi was fresh and delicious. Service was awesome as all of the servers and staff were so attentive and friendly. We got the AYCE option. All the fish was really fresh and we really enjoyed the cappuccino during dinner. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Will def come back again soon read more
This sushi is pretty fresh! My boyfriend and I's favorite was the cowboy roll as the tempura inside was still crisp and the lemon at the top was refreshing. They had run out of the gold for golden eye roll but they did discount it off our bill. The garlic edamame was good as i felt like it was evenly coated in sauce and garlic pieces. The hand rolls had a good distribution of rice fish and cucumber in each bite. They also offer all you can eat which we will try next time we go! read more
They recently introduced AYCE option and I can confidently say this is now the best place for AYCE sushi in San Diego. At $32.99 for lunch, eel is included with no limit. That statement alone should tell you all you need to know about the value you are getting. The eel nigiris are plump, warm and well seasoned. You will not find equivalent value anywhere. The other buffet places have smaller eel pieces and only limit to one piece per person. The Japanese scallop is my next favorite. Fresh and you get the whole piece. Not the smaller diced version seen at usual buffet, also unlimited! Tuna, salmon and octopus were delicious. Unfortunate they did not offer squid and uni were sold out. Only dish I did not enjoy was the garlic edamame. Way too salty with the soy sauce coating every single piece. I honestly believe the value and quality they are offering is not economically sustainable and they will eventually increase the price or limit the premium option like unagi and scallop. Before that happens, do your wallet and stomach a favor and give this place a try! read more
