Nice and beautiful Japanese restaurant. It has a sushi bar and a large dinning area. We came on a Saturday for lunch, but they don't have lunch menu. We ordered two of their bento boxes. They are okay. I was hoping for some California rolls in the bento, but they have the entree, salad, and some tempura. It's overall okay for the price. The miso black cod was quite salty and hard to taste the miso flavor. The pork cutlet was very dry. Tempura was good, but nothing too special. For the bento boxes, we think it's 3 star. They may have good sushi rolls, but we didn't order it. If we come back, I would recommend sushi and not their bento box.

Came here on a Friday night. They served us completely raw chicken and did not offer any compensation.

Although there is very stiff competition in the county, Sushi Gato is my favorite Sushi location in the area. The dishes are always delicious with fresh ingredients and beautiful presentation. The prices are reasonable and the service is first class. Today we had a light lunch with Seaweed Salad, Chicken Karaage, Salmon Roll, and Garlic Albacore roll!! Wow!!! Perfect!

Sushi Gato is one of many sushi spots in the area, glad we chose this spot. We started with the mixed tempura, which was light and crispy; perfect for sharing since the portion isn't as large as at other locations. For sushi rolls, the Lemon Roll with extra lemon on the side was very fresh. The citrus really elevated the fish and gave it a clean, refreshing flavor. The Philadelphia Roll was classic with high quality cream cheese (you can tell the difference) and well balanced, and the Crazy Dragon Roll was fresh and crunchy with cucumber. Service was friendly and consistent, the food came out quickly, and everything tasted fresh and well prepared. Definitely a sushi spot we'll come back to when craving quality sushi. Highly recommend!

Good sushi. Fresh. The cucumber salad isn't really a salad. It looks more like a caterpillar. Our order took longer than expected and they gave us free Edamame. I had the lemon roll. The green tea cheesecake is still on the menu but they don't have it anymore. I was seated by a double door that two people passed thru while I was dining....was disruptive. We had several servers which was confusing. Will go back simply because the food was good.

Purrfect night at @sushigato.sd Nigiri Paradise--toro, tuna, yellowtail, salmon, kanpachi, scallop, albacore, shrimp, white fish, and madai--plus tempura, karaage, lemon roll, yuzu cucumbers, and green tea ice cream. I'm soy obsessed.

We ordered the agedashi tofu, tuna handtoll, truffle yellowtail handroll, miso black cod bento, and tempura udon. Overall everything was presented beautifully and restaurant is a solid option for lunch. Tuna handroll- thick slice of fresh fish, warm sushi rice. Tempura udon- a reliable dish taken up a notch. There are small bits of japanese vegetables such as chrysanthemum greens and mushroom, which I appreciate. Battered shrimp and vegetables are good, though personally, I prefer an even lighter batter. Miso black cod bento- this was a unique option that I haven't seen in many other japanese restaurants Agedashi tofu- somehow arrived at the table last? They did separate the ponzu from the tofu to keep it nice a crispy for those who like it that way. For me, I prefer bigger tofu pieces and allowing the ponzu to soak and soften it. Truffle yellowtail roll- truffle was not too overpowering. One thing that was unexpected is that the yellowtail is chopped up and not in slices. As a texture eater, I would have enjoyed it more if the fish was in slices. Service- wait staff was very nice and attentive Atmosphere- spacious and modern. Love the cat decor. Quiet atmosphere. The other table ordered some intriguing rice-less sushi rolls. Looks pretty, will definitely come back to try different things.

We make sure to visit every time in San Diego. The nigiri is incredibly fresh and delicious, and the reasonable prices always leave me satisfied. They even have a kids' menu, which is great. I've recommended this place to several friends, and everyone loved it! All staffs are friendly and polite. And The place is always busy and has a great energy.

My friends and I tried this restaurant before we went to the movies! There is plenty of free parking in the lot. We were seated right away. The food was pretty decent, but very expensive for the quality. Service was great though! Likely wouldn't come back as there is better quality sushi for a better price. House salad: (1/5) The dressing was horrible. We couldn't even take more than one bite. French fries: (5/5) Surprisingly these were delicious! They gave complimentary fries on New Year's Day! It was very generous. Garlic edamame: (5/5) Delicious! They were cooked perfectly and the sauce was yummy. Salmon belly sashimi: (4/5) Pretty good, tasted fresh and you get good sized piece. Salmon hand roll: (4/5) Simple, but good. Again, good amount of salmon in the roll. Chopped toro? (2/5) I don't remember the name, but the consistency threw me off. I wouldn't order that again. Marinated blue fin nigiri: (4/5) This was tasty, but pricey for one piece. Pink roll: (3/5) It has salmon and tuna which we all love, but the sauce on the roll really ruined the flavor. Wouldn't order again. Philadelphia roll: (3/5) Again, the sauce on top ruins the flavor of what should be a simple roll.

What can I say? After living in Japan over 5 years Sushi Gato comes extremely close to authentic Japanese food. Everything we had was delicious. The only problem would be parking in that mall. It's not the restaurants fault and it was crazy two days before Thanksgiving. I have detailed Everything in my pictures, but I will talk about the highlights. The truffle and garlic edamame was unique and a different take on the way other restaurants serve it. We ate that appetizer in record time! I loved the uni and wished there were two pieces as it was just amazing. They had a wild aji which I tried and it was the best I have ever eaten. I had watched a woman have the whole aji fish as sushi and then they fry the bones. I wanted to try that, but the waitress misunderstood what we wanted. I have eaten aji this way in Japan years ago and love it this way. Next time. It was very expensive, but the quality was worth the price. I can see us going back on special occasions. I would suggest calling ahead and reserving a table.

Food is fresh and full of flavors. Their miso black cod was flaky and tastes so good, it's my absolute favorite. Service was amazing and wait time is less. Ambience is also vibrant. I would highly recommend trying out food here.

Gato roll - epicly amazing flavor, a bit America for my taste. But very good for sure!

Close your eyes and let your taste buds transport you to Japan! Hidden in a very unassuming strip mall, is this amazing sushi spot! Ordered a mix of sushi and nigiri. I highly recommend the nigiri! Although, the sushi roll was also absolutely fantastic! All recommendations of my server on what was fresh and tasty based on my preferences: Madi (sea bream) - probably one of the best pieces of nigri I have ever eaten Kinme dai (golden eye snapper) - just wow Zuke (marinated bluefin tuna) - so smooth and a smooth flavor Sushi rolls: Gato special - shrimp tempura, spicy tuna topped with perfectly seared wagu steak. A little bit American for my taste, but it was absolutely delicious! I prefer a more traditional roll. Highly recommend a stop! Great service, cute inside decor, very clean. You will definitely not be disappointed.

Not your typical "suburb" sushi! Even though Sushi Gato had only opened its door a bit over a year, the chef & team here had operated Japanese/Sushi restaurant for more than 25 years. I came here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by Chef Kenny's omakase. Its not cheap here, but good fish/seafood, directly flown in from Japan, arent cheap neither. I was served Akimo (Monkfish liver), Uni, Hotate (Scallops), Shikoku Oyster, Aji, Shima Aji, Nodoguro (Sea Perch), Chu-Toro and other specials that were mostly from Japan; in Nigiri form that is crafted and seasoned(sauced) to perfection by Chef Kenny. They do have rolls and other items if you werent going to reach for the top or you are just bringing sushi newbies or kids for a causal meal.

Unlike other omakase restaurants, Soichi offers their full vs petite vs nigiri only omakases at variable times (not limited to 2 seating times like others). You can also enjoy any of these omakases or order a la carte or both at the tables and outside patio also. The ambiance is bright and full of energy. He was very nice, friendly, professional, and skilled. When we had questions, he answered them promptly and kindly. He also checked in with us to ensure the ratio of rice and sashimi was OK for us (of course it was). They served on unique plates too. Everything tasted so fresh and smooth. The service and partnership between the sushi chef and the wait staff was fantastic and every interaction was well thought out. The appetizer wasn't my cup of tea, but the sashimi, nigiri, grilled fish, chawanmushi were really good. The assortment of fish (at least for this season) wasn't my favorite (featuring sardines, mackerel, etc.) when I would have loved some yellowtail and salmon belly. We ordered a negitoro cut roll a la carte because we were still a little hungry - this was super tasty as the quality of the tuna/toro is top notch. For dessert, they had 4 flavors of homemade ice cream to pick from. The sesame was incredible and the roasted green tea really good too. I feel like most of the omakase I've been to have 2-3 seating for dinner, so all the customers for that time arrive at the same time and everyone is at the same point of the omakase. At Soichi, it seems like each party has their reservation at a different time (4:30, 4:45, 5:00, etc.) so each group is at a different part of their meal, not to mention some parties that ordered a la carte or a different omakase menu (sushi only option, etc.) As a result, the chef is bouncing around working on a bunch of different items, and we had to wait quite a bit for each of our nigiri courses. The whole meal took 2.5 hours. We also felt less of that group vibe with other parties that is common in other omakases. Overall, we still had a really lovely time and glad we got to try it!,

[Food] Spring Omakase $165pp - Appetizers: 4 dishes…read moreconsisting of minced tuna, squid fly, oyster, & tempura. All delicious and wish I could've gotten seconds! - Sashimi: Chef's selection of 4 different sashimi with a side of seaweed. I enjoyed them all but my favorite are the toro and amaebi. Love that they also fried the shrimp head and gave us a choice of salt & lemon or ponzu sauce to pair with it! - Yakimono: Grilled cod with asparagus, crispy fried lotus root, and goji berries. The cod was so buttery and cooked to perfection. - Nigiri: 9 piece nigiri chef's selection. All were super fresh, melts in your mouth, and of course delicious! - Uni wrap: I'm not sure if this was part of the nigiri or its own course, but chef let us try San Diego Uni & Hokkaido Uni! Both incredibly yummy. I feel like the SD Uni has a nice sweetness while the Hokkaido Uni has a slight bitterness. My group mostly liked the Hokkaido Uni. - Chawanmushi: Very flavorful and silky as I think they added dashi to enhance the egg. - Soup: Red miso clam soup (Nagoya style) was delicious. Super comforting and savory to end the course out before dessert. - Dessert: Hojicha Panna Cotta with strawberries! I usually don't like the desserts at most omakases, but I loved this! Great balance of light sweetness of the Panna Cotta with the sweet and acidity from the strawberries. [Service] - Friendly, charming, attentive, helpful - Shoutout to our Chef, Hiro-San & server Ken-San for making sure our experience was beyond amazing! Thank you! [Ambiance] - Classy, upscale, intimate - Has sushi bar & patio seating [Overall] - Made reservations for a party of 6 for my bf's bday and they definitely made it special! I love that they took pics for us with the chefs and even gave us a print out with a stand. So cute! - Would definitely come back for the food, vibes, and great service! - Each season they have a different menu, if you had all 4 on your stamp card, you'd receive a little gift! I definitely would love to try all 4 seasons but unfortunately I don't live around the area.

Ichifuji has routinely been one of the personal favorites of many users. I booked a reservation. It was about $160 before tax and tip. Definitely a lot cheaper than most of the Chicago ones and the quality of each course was exceptional. Our chef had a great sense of humor. Everyone was pleasant to talk to. I recommend coming here early before your reservation to secure a parking spot, at least an hour or more. The lot is shared with a Vietnamese restaurant and the parking lot is already small. We thought about parking in the bigger lot to the right but was unsure due to the towing signs. We're from out of State so we didn't want to risk it. If you have the money to spare with no kids, I recommend coming here.

My favorite sushi place for the north SD area! Their sashimi has been fresh everytime, very unique…read moredishes also available like carpaccio with monk fish liver that you can't easily find elsewhere to try. They also have a rotating specials menu so there's different seafood options to try for your sushi and also cooked options. My go to is the chirashi bowl. Good portions and delicious sashimi! Sushi is one of my favorite foods, so I don't say it lightly :). I have brought family and friends back here too My brother in law brought his kid and tried the chicken of the sea nuggets (tuna) and even I loved them! Friendly service, although sometimes food takes a while to come out. The parking is plentiful, in a plaza parking lot. Good ambiance for a bit more casual date night that's cozy!

The menu is pretty extensive, but it definitely has a good quality for what we ordered. Service is quick and ordering to food coming out was pretty fast. For someone with a low tolerance of spice, you never know how spicy the spicy tuna will actually be, I gambled wrong for my tolerance. Delicious none the less but for me a little too spicy haha! The other rolls were fantastic though, and all very good. Would definitely come again if in the area!

We knew it was popular and it was recommended to make reservations well in advance which we did. When you get to the hostess stand on ground level, she greeted us warmly and directed us to the elevator that would take us to Lumi. Once at the top, you're greeted by the Lumi staff to check you in. As you get to view the roof top, there are lots of tables, a strategically placed bar, some fireplace tables, comfortable seating, a live DJ, and beautifully done murals and deco. Very tasteful! The food was amazing and so fresh! If you don't like sushi, Lumi has a lot of dishes that would also accommodate your palette. Appetizers, sushi, and drinks were all great. Prices is a little high but keep in mind that you're also paying for the experience! The staff were all friendly and our host Becky was so sweet and attentive! She checked in on us regularly and gave us great recs! Highly recommend!

Came here for San Diego Restaurant week in January 2026. Three course for $65…read more We ordered: 1st -Chicken karaage - hard crunch just straight up fried chicken skin and chicken jerky due to the dryness. No flavor unless you dip. It was like eating chicharron. -Egg plant skewers - Couldn't tell it wasn't meat, it had the firm and tender texture with Unami flavors. 2nd -Rock shrimp tempura - this would taste better with rice. Almost like honey walnut shrimp. Ate like 3 and got full. Too much batter. -Big eye tuna tataki - nothing stood out 3rd -Surf and turf roll - by the time we got this dish, we were already disappointed not satisfied. -Kim chi chaufa - basic fired rice with the crispy burnt rice at the bottom. For a place this upscale, I wasn't impressed with the restaurant week menu. The food was under whelming. Sad to say that our favorite dish out of all were the egg plant skewers. I would rate 2 for the food but increase due to the view and ambiance. We looked around and saw every table with the pretty sushi box. I expected the menu not to offer all cooked dishes. This would go down as one of our least favorite restaurant week dining experience. No parking in this area so we took an uber. I can't believe we spent over $100 each and left disappointed and hungry.
