    Sushi with crunch 10/10

I had a really good experience at Harney! Zoe was super sweet and made us feel welcome. The sushi was delicious, and I loved the live music playing in the restaurant. Everything we tried was really good, and I would definitely come back. I recommend this place if you like sushi!

Delicious food in a great location in Poway. Happy they're here so I don't have to go to Old Town! Plenty of parking in the lot and the service is outstanding. Everyone was so pleasant and friendly. The happy hour menu is excellent too.

My friend and I decided to try Harney for the first time the other night. 2 things that could potentially make this a new go to restaurant...they use chicken breasts for their chicken dishes and they have fountain Coke Zero. We both ordered chicken Katsu bentos. The box came with rice, salad, edamame, and 2 pieces of CA roll. The Katsu was good but it unfortunately was served with their version of Katsu sauce. It was creamy and a little spicy. We did not care for it at all. I am Japanese and I think any kind of tonkatsu and chicken Katsu should be served with Katsu sauce. It would have been nice to be given a choice. Service was decent.

My daughter and I like to check out different places for sushi. We were in Poway and decided to give this place a try. It was just ok. We noticed that almost all rolls came with cream cheese. Luckily, our server checked with the sushi chef and was able to have our rolls made without cream cheese. The quality of the fish was just ok. I love salmon belly, but the server checked with the chef and confirmed that sadly they don't have salmon belly available at this location. They don't have anything belly here, which makes me question the freshness of the fish. Do they only get filets of fish and not the entire fish? The salmon wasn't bad, but it didn't taste fresh either. In addition to the salmon sashimi, we ordered 2 rolls and both came heavily sauced, perhaps to hide the quality of the fish?? We weren't particularly impressed so this is likely a one-time visit. The ambiance wasn't too inviting either.

Spicy garlic edamame. Messy fingers but a step up from regular.

Welcome addition to sushi selection in Poway. Fish motif, subtle ambiance, a little dark, but that's by design. Great sushi. RSVP if going on a weekend evening.

The service was poor. The food was not great. We were a party of 10 and were seated at the large table for dinner on a weekend. The sweltering heat inside the restaurant was unbearable. Once we ordered and the food slowly came out, there was a span of 20 min where a few of us were waiting for the rest of our order to arrive. There was a waitress who looks like she works out who would come to the corner of our table and tell me and my husband to pass everyone's water along. And then she did the same thing with our appetizers and entrees. So, are we supposed to do her job?? When she brought our vegan roll, she said "this is the fake one." And then there was the ice cream. It came out MELTED.

Yum yum yum!!! Came here on a Friday evening and it was not super crowded so I think a rsvp is not needed but the food and service was great! My friend and I ordered 3 rolls and we were satisfied. We ordered the Ana roll, Lightning roll, and the Sea Spider. One down sod was there were out of black cod and replaced it with eel, I wanted to try the black cod. Out of the three I liked the Ana the best, it was a nice, more refreshing roll. All the fish were fresh, nothing was fishy or gamey. I will definitely be coming back!

We came in without a reservation on a very busy Friday evening. They sat us on the patio. With the heater on we were all comfortable with the temperature. My only complaint is the seats on the patio are pretty uncomfortable. I went numb sitting out there. I got the vegan gyoza roll and it was absolutely delicious. My wife got orange chicken and enjoyed it. My daughter got a chicken catsu bento box and scarfed it down in no time. My son got calamari and everyone seemed to love that.

Zoe is the absolutely best restaurant server we have ever met. We thought our first trip to this place was a one off but NO! As soon as we walked in Zoe embraced us like old friends. Everything is fresh and the flavors are bold! Brealynn also was so friendly. We were thrilled to meet the owner, Jesse, so that we could express our joy over Zoe. A shout out to all our Scripps Ranch neighbors. If you haven't tried Harney yet, go there. But don't ask for Zoe because she's the best, and we want her all to ourselves. ;)

Out of everything, my favorite is the ability for this place to stay consistent and that all food is tasty and flavorful while having a huge menu. I really enjoy the spicy mayo here. The servers are always so nice and paying is through their toast little handheld device. Parking spots are plentiful, but a little small in size. This place is god for big parties and I love coming here when there is a game because the multiple tvs are typically basketball/baseball/football. I highly recommend coming here!

The staff are very friendly and greet you immediately, except for the sushi chef, who is very stern and does not engage. We came at opening, and the place was empty, for a Saturday, I found that strange. We were told to choose any seat we wanted. Service was quick and very attentive. The menu has a little of everything, but it definitely caters more to the American palate than the Japanese. We ordered Spicy Cucumbers and Shishito Peppers as starters. Both were good. They actually tasted really good when you ate them together. For our mains, we ordered Unagi sashimi style, the honey roll, and the Roka roll. To be brutally honest, I rate sushi restaurants based on their Unagi. For me, it has to be cut very traditionally and served the same. This Unagi did not meet my standards, and yet, it was very tasty and fresh. It was a good surprise. The Honey Roll was very fresh and tasty, except for the lemon on top. The pith was not removed, and it gave it a bitter aftertaste. When we removed the lemon, it was very good. I did not like the Roka Roll, but my daughter really enjoyed it. It was missing something, in my opinion. The portions are generous, so you can fill up with just a few selections. This was just not to my palate. We asked for hot tea, and they brought us a coffee mug with a tea bag and hot water. As I said, more American than Japanese in style. The worst part for me was the ladies' room. I doubt they can do much about this, but there is such a strong sewer smell in there that it is overpowering and really hard to use the bathroom.

Cute sushi spot near Phil's bbq…read more Very warm and inviting inside and I like all the booths and how spaced out they are even in the center of the restaurant. There's a lot of businesses around this area so I can see Sushi Kami being a popular spot for a go-to lunch outside of work. We came for dinner and got seated right away and it wasn't too busy at all. It was nice but still casual at the same time if that makes sense. I will say the parking was a little tight and we had to make a bit of an awkward U-turn to get to the restaurant but the lot wasn't that full so it wasn't too bad but I could see this being trickier in the daytime. I really enjoyed both the spicy tuna and salmon. I've had a lot of weird spicy tuna but this one hit just right. It's always hard to find that perfect balance between fish and spice but I really enjoyed this one. The salmon was good too. The standout was definitely the tempura we got as well. It was large and came out hot and crispy and perfect. This is the type of sushi restaurant I could take people to who don't necessarily like sushi all that much. There's lots of options on the menu including bulgogi (next time I shall try!) and really good combos for people to enjoy. Ambiance is chill but still has that fun sushi vibe with the displays of fish (and I even saw some creative fish decorating on the walls which I thought was a nice touch) Service was nice and they always refilled our waters without us having to ask. I enjoyed the food and the vibe! Would definitely come back to try more ...and brings others along too!

It looks like most of the other tables were reserved for reservations. The decor is modern and very clean and chic. They also had a high chair and was accommodating with our baby. Food was incredible and the quality of the fish is evident throughout. We started with the mixed shrimp and vegetable tempura - light crispy batter, really good. The sashimi champaloo came with 12 pieces of sashimi, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and the fish of the day was albacore. For rolls, we got the Luna Lemon, Maru's Sushi Toro, and Hamachi Hiro. The rolls were a good size and I loved how each had a fun twist (but at the same time not TOO crazy with their combinations like some other sushi places). You can tell it was designed with intention and each roll had a nice balance. The Luna Lemon roll was great with spicy tuna inside, salmon outside, and the soy dressing and shallot oil put it over the top. The Maru's Sushi - Toro roll looked so good in the photos so I knew we had to order it. The negitoro was delicious and did not disappoint. The Hamachi Hiro roll was hearty and loved the combination of yellowtail outside the shrimp tempura in the inside. We were blown away by how fast the service is. The staff was friendly and on top of everything, and the food came out REALLY fast. For example, when we ordered an extra roll at the end, it came out in maybe 3 minutes and we were shocked.
