Rainbow Rolls, yellowtail looks gray and tendony
    Karen W.

I came to place a to go order and was quoted 15 minutes but they actually took 30 minutes. If they were honest I would've waited in my car or walked around the plaza but I decided to stay, thinking it would be 15 minutes. I ordered 2 crunchy rolls and 2 rainbow rolls. The crunchy rolls were good and as expected. But the rainbow rolls looked unappetizing, like the scraps of fish from other rolls and one of the fish -- I think it was yellowtail, looked gray and tendony. We couldn't get over how the fish looked after that so we had to throw those pieces out.

Good filling food and comes with ice cream at the end! We came on a Saturday night party of 6 so it was surprisingly busy so staff were a little slammed. We shared some dinner bentos, Chirasi don, and some rolls. Lots of options in case your party wants ramen, udon, rolls or other specialties like katsu or curry. Plenty of parking in the complex.

Tried out this sushi restaurant since I was in the area. It was very packed on a Friday for dinner. My friend order sashimi, takoyaki, some nigiri's and I got the chirashi bowl and uni/ikura handroll. The fish was very good and fresh and beautifully presented. Although it took along time for my food to come out, the staff was very friendly and attentive and checked on my food (and us) multiple times. After paying for the bill, they gave us complimentary ice cream cones. Overall, this place was very good and love that there's plenty of parking. Definitely will be back again!

My family's comfort spot!! As regulars, we've frequently dined in and gotten takeout for casual meals or special occasions. It's our go-to restaurant when we're not sure where or what to eat. Quality and taste are consistent, fish to rice ratio are perfect, and you know the food is authentic when you see an all asian staff. Our favorites are the lemon salmon roll, rainbow roll, and their sashimi. We are also HUGE fans of their salmon skin salad - they seem to be the only place that has perfected the crispiness and savory flavor of the salmon skin. They've increased their prices over the years but not enough to deter us from going!

O Sushi had my family crawling back here in less than a few days after discovering. Rolls are hefty, fish are fresh, and the quality has been consistent! I came here TWICE in one week because of how satisfied I was the first time. Normally when I order sashimi from other places, I get slivers of fish. But O Sushi? They give FAT chunks! So that really justifies the price that I'm paying, which is a huuuge win in my opinion. I love how stuffed the rolls are too. Rice is perfectly cooked, not too mushy, and has the right amount. Fish literally melts in your mouth, and I've never had a fishy fish here. Service was really slow, I think I waited around an hour for takeout. However the food makes up for it so it's not too bad! Try coming when it's not too busy.

Came her for dinner with the fam while visiting San Diego. The food was fresh and yummy and the portions were decent sized. I was surprised at the size of the salmon kama! We ordered: Beef bulgolgi/salmon roll bento 4/5: Decently priced with an egg roll, 2 gyozas, salad, miso soup, and entrees. The portions were large and the salmon inside the roll was a decent size. Not those skinny leftover pieces of salmon. The bulgogi was all right. Didn't taste like anything special, could have been costco! chicken teriyaki/tempura 5/5: Again, the portion size was surprising! Loved the onion ring that came with the tempura! The chicken was tender and the pieces were large! The tempura had a good batter ratio which is sometimes hard to get right. charashi bowl: I didn't try it, but my DIL said the pieces were very fresh. The cuts of sashimi looked like they were sized well! Nice, bright spacious spot to grab a bite to eat, but what put it over the top was celebrating our DIL bday there. We asked if they did anything for birthdays and the waitress said yes. Thought it would just be a scoop of ice cream but it was a bigger surprise than that! If you want to embarrass your friends or loved ones, come here to celebrate!

We came here over a year ago, back in March. We shared the omakase box, salmon special, crispy rice tuna, a rainbow spider roll, edamame, and miso soup. The presentation of the omakase special was so pretty! The fish was really fresh and I liked the variety. Everything else we got was tasty. The salmon special was also great, however, I would have liked it prepared in different ways. It was just either sashimi, nigiri, or in a roll. Overall I had a pleasant time here. Service was great in the beginning, but when it got busy, we can tell the staff was a little bit stressed.

Post tennis hunger pangs got to me and the problem is that most places dont stay open late. This place is open until 9 which is almost unheard of around these parts of scripps ranch. Definitely a family place in the area. Hosts even came out to sing happy birthday to another table and created a really happy and lively atmosphere. Seems like a good place to hang out and be. Pricing was average for the our three rolls and one soup. ($85 as of Feb '26) One was the Toro Roll so it was more of a premium roll and totally willing to dish out for that. The Toro was fresh and just the right marbling. Sometimes the Toro can be overwhelming. The soup was hit the spot but wasn't anything to write home about. All an in all its a great japanese place to go if it is getting late and you just want some good fresh sushi.

Great sushi combos and complementary ice cream or coffee Service is not always great, depending if the owner is in or not.

It was my first time here, and I really liked the food. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was very good; they are very attentive.

...first time back to @osushiandgrill in over five years. always thought the quality was good but we stopped going because the service was inconsistent. tried again tonight and pleased to learn that ownership changed a few years ago and happy to recommend as a local option. bento box dinner portions are impressive. this is my chirashi don set on an ai generated marble counter

    Chicken Katsu Curry Entree
    Christina T.

Decent place for sushi/Japanese food in the Scripps Ranch area. We got a variety of their sushi options, and I ordered a chicken curry katsu. The plate was massive, but it's mostly rice and curry, not as much katsu as other places. The katsu was very well made though, incredibly plump cuts of juicy chicken and perfectly crisp. The curry was a bit on the blander side but was fine since there was a lot. I think their sushi is more what people come here for, and my partner noted that they had pretty good fish quality and quantity in his poke bowl. The inside is nicely decorated with Japanese decor, though we opted to sit outside as it was a nice day. Service is mixed. While the owner is relatively accommodating, she can be a little gruff in giving instructions, and we had to write down our orders on a slip and walk it in ourselves because no one was coming out to check on us for a long time. Free ice cream at the end of the meal though!

The oysters that gave me food poisoning

Got food poisoning here. It was most likely from the oysters. I ate one, thought it tasted a little off... and then proceeded to finish the dish anyway. Within an hour, and for the next 10-ish days, I paid the price. Never again.

Omakase: Omakase 20 pieces at $180. It's a great price, but in my head there had to be a catch to it. The starter and appetizer started out strong. Everything (fish) were all fresh, so when the nigiri course started that's when everything went south. The nigiri that chef served was really small and it's not your standard size nigiri .There's barley any shari ( sushi rice) and fish. If felt like I was sampling each nigiri. You can't really enjoy it when it's that small. The only highlight was the Uni from San Diego. That felt like a month full, other than that everything just felt like a tease. Don't let my photos fool you, it was all zoomed in. My wife and I had many omakase before and lelf happy and satisfied. This was the first time that we ever left after an omakase meal and was still hungry and a little disappointed. I would love to give Sushi Maru more stars but I just can't after this vist.

There was no wait here but parking was a nightmare and there is almost no street parking right around the restaurant which is near the trolley tracks. I recalled coming here for a light dinner with my husband many years ago and thinking it was good, but expensive. I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

We ordered the miso soup, spicy edamame, Den Miso pork belly skewers, tamarindo tuna ceviche, seabass serrano, crispy karikari tuna, and mochi ice cream for dessert. To drink, we had the Taiyo Margarita and the Clouds of Matcha cocktail. The spicy edamame was probably the only dish that fell a little short for us. It wasn't bad by any means, but we were hoping for more flavor. The absolute standout was the Den Miso pork belly skewers. My husband and I both took our first bite at the same time, looked at each other, and immediately said, "Oh!" We were genuinely surprised by how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were. There were only two skewers, but they packed so much flavor that we instantly wanted to order another plate. The tamarindo tuna ceviche was fresh, light, and refreshing. The taro chips added a nice crunch without overpowering the dish. The seabass serrano was enjoyable, though it wasn't a stand out for us. The crispy karikari tuna (spicy tuna over crispy rice) is one of my go-to orders whenever I visit a sushi restaurant, and this version was up to par. The only component I wasn't crazy about was the long, thin slice of avocado on top--I personally could have done without it, though my husband actually liked it, so that's just a matter of preference. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, we had a great dining experience. Between the rooftop ambiance, attentive service, and several delicious dishes - especially those unforgettable pork belly skewers - we'd definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner spot in the Gaslamp.

The music is a bit on the loud side, but you can still have a chat with a group. I ordered the Akira Back Pizza, Mango Bongo Roll, and Super Spider Roll. Akira Back Pizza was my favorite, as the crunchy chip base and truffle drizzle made it extremely craveable. The rolls were pretty good too, and they use real crab! By the way, Lumi's AI answering service says they do not do take-out, but they do. Their receptionist is difficult to reach to confirm, but I have ordered take-out from their bar without any issues. It's just that they may not be able to allow call-ins for to-go orders.
