Came here with my family for the first time after receiving a 20% off coupon by mail (eating out is getting so expensive!) We love sushi and trying new places. I had never even seen this restaurant and driven by this area hundreds of times. It is tucked away in a strip mall but upon entering it is a large restaurant with both booths and tables (I love a booth). And there is in fact a HUGE fan in the middle of the restaurant which makes for fun ambiance and kept us cool. Our server greeted us quickly and was very sweet and attentive. We ordered two orders of edamame (garlic and regular) and the calamari to start. Sadly the calamari rings were very tough (deeply breaded) and hard to eat, wouldn't order again. The sushi was a bit pricey for what we are used to but we ordered our usual rolls, Rainbow, Tempura, Spicy Tuna, Philadelphia and tried a few ones. All of the rolls were good and nicely sized. The Lemon roll was really good. We had leftovers and took about 10 rolls with us to go. There were no issues with using our coupon which was very nice. But the bill was still pricey (rolls range from $17-$25). Overall just good and I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. Great service though and I did like the little cordless lamps on each table :)
RB Sushi off the I-15 is always a great spot because it is clean, plenty of menu variety, and perfect for groups with their long tables. Tried a new coconut shrimp dish recently added to the menu. It tasted okay, but the presentation was gorgeous. Love the little touches, like the orchid I always put in my hair. Service was friendly, maybe not as attentive as before, but still solid. Always a place I'll come back to!
This is the sushi place with the huge ceiling fan, I call it. Besides that, their actual menu and food are both creative and tasty. A couple highlights are their seasonal and their gluten free column on the menu which comes with gluten free soy and eel sauces if preferred. We ordered about four cut rolls a special, one nigiri plate and some hot sake. Our server was training that evening so service was a little slower but overall friendly and accommodating. Lastly, the quieter weekday crowd was small making it a nice place for conversation.
I ordered through Postmates for pickup, and the app clearly listed spicy mayo as a free add-on. When I arrived to pick up my order, I was told it would actually cost an additional $0.50. I showed the employee that the app indicated it was included at no charge, but I was told they couldn't honor it. He said he even called the owner, who also refused to make an exception. This review isn't about the $0.50. It's about how the situation was handled. If a business's own ordering platform displays something incorrectly, the customer shouldn't be expected to pay for that mistake. Instead of resolving a simple issue, the response was essentially, "too bad." For the sake of fifty cents' worth of spicy mayo, they lost a customer. Good customer service means taking ownership of problems, even when they're small. Unfortunately, that wasn't the experience I had, and I won't be returning.
Came here last night with a group of people. The service was great and all the appetizers/salads and sushi rolls arrived fairly quickly and we're delicious. Good sized portions of sushi rolls, also the chicken and shrimp fried rice was delicious! Not a huge restaurant but a good size spot in RB. Also the prices for drinks were very reasonable and low for a sushi restaurant. Pictured is the One Punch Roll ($16) which is one of their many specialty rolls.

We tried RB Sushi in Rancho Bernardo for the first time, and I can confidently say I was very pleased. The food was delicious, but what truly stood out was the exceptional service. Lana was incredibly polite and attentive. She even knelt down to our level as we were seated to take our order. She offered great recommendations and she did everything with a warm smile. Her enthusiasm made us feel like valued customers, and it really elevated the entire dining experience.
Love RB Sushi! We usually order their sushi platters and they never disappoint. Ordering online is super easy, and while we often do pick-up when we're town, I'll definitely try delivery next time for convenience. The rolls are always fresh, beautifully presented, and a big hit with family and friends.
I love to come here with my brother when I'm in San Diego - we usually order to go, though we have eaten in, and had lovely service. They are personable and efficient, and the sushi is great! We tend to get rolls vs. nigiri, and the flavor and freshness is outstanding, and they've never gotten a to go order incorrect. Looking forward to seeing my brother and RB Sushi soon! The service was wonderful and the rolls were quick to come out. The speciality rolls were good but one was over powered by lemon and wasn't quite enjoyable, even the fish didn't taste as fresh as we would've liked. It was busy but we never felt forgotten. The sushi was okay compared to other spots in San Diego but got a delicious mochi dessert for a birthday celebration.
I often frequent this place on my lunch break by myself and I had to shoutout this time because the roll that I had was absolutely delicious. It was on the chef special menu and truly one of the best rolls I've had in a long time. Shrimp Sautee roll!! Get it while you can! The service is always great and here and they're all very kind!

This place didn't look like much from the outside, but once you enter, the space is roomy and inviting. I had the pork katsu lunch special, and my wife and her mom each had the chirashi bowl. All well prepared/presented, very generous portions, and wonderful service. They also had the largest ceiling fan I've ever seen in an eatery.
I came with my significant other & their friend. Staff were welcoming and the atmosphere was quiet. We came at dinner time so there wasn't much customers. The entrance is small but the room is spacious. There's a wide selection of sushi rolls/handrolls/nigiri to choose from. I had appetizers of the Fried Calamari, Gyoza (6pcs). The Fried Calamari wasn't very crispy but it was tasty with the sauce of spicy mayo which made me order a lot with a side of ginger. The Gyoza was crunchy and juicy. As for the sushi rolls, I had the Garnet, Eel handroll, and my significant other had the plate full of sashimi (10pcs). The Eel handroll was very tasty. The sashimi took awhile to come out but it was still delicious. The Garnet sushi roll was very filling and the portion size was generous. Overall, I'd recommend this place for a nice gathering with friends & family or just to grab a bite.

Love this place! They have super unique sushi rolls and specials. My favorite is the sample plate with different Nigiri. The crab one is so good as well as the miso. The Wagyu sushi with gold leaf is also incredible. Service is great and it's never too packed even on a Friday night. read more

Not bad for the suburbs in north county inland SD! I used to go to the Hillcrest location (RIP) back in the day when they had an AYCE model. This is the last RB Sushi location (located in RB, fittingly) and I'm glad to say that the quality is excellent with great portions. The value is good; there isn't AYCE but it's still worth it for what you get. The dining room is clean and modern and extra spacious with a HUGE fan. Definitely a comfortable spot to bring the family. Lots of ample parking located inside a strip mall near the 15 freeway. Will def be back! read more
I went here on a Sunday after attending another event in the area. We went around 2:00 so it was not very busy at all. We were seated pretty promptly, and our server was extremely cheerful and helpful. We decided to order three rolls to share. We ordered the Kimmy, The Majestic, and the blossom. My favorite hands down was The Majestic, it had real crab inside which I appreciate, and a really good flavor. The blossom had fried onions on top come off Which was different but not bad Period the sauce on top was a little much at times but still good. The Kimmy was good but my least favorite of all. It had a kind of smoky flavor to the salmon which just didn't fit in my opinion. During our dining experience, we also asked for extra ginger, and they brought us a huge serving which was much appreciated. I definitely think this is a place you should check out, if you like sushi. The prices were about average of a good sushi spot, and the rolls were really fresh. The size of the rolls were really good as well, I noticed a lot of places I've been to recently the roles have been pretty small. I love that they have a separate section for real crab rolls, because so many places are using imitation now. There were definitely some interesting options and flavor combinations, like they had a roll with wagyu. I plan to go back and try some of the roles I haven't had, and probably also get the Majestic again. read more

The popularity on Yelp convinced me to give it a try, and I came here around 7pm, got seated right away , no line and no crowd. It was easy to park as well in the small plaza. The place is good for family and friends gathering, it has sushi bar seating , also tables. The waitress "helped" me order way more than I need, and the roll I got was big with thick sushi rice, stuffed! Based on the review recommendation, I also ordered the lobster roll thing topped this grilled thing, omg , that was biggest failure, greasy and heavy , basically my taste bud rejected to take more after one bite. I had to keep drinking water wash off the greasy oily taste. Usually sushi means something lite and fresh, the food I ordered here totally against what it is. 4 stars for the food and service, 1 star for the cleanliness. The hostess was the friendliest and seated us promptly. She reminded me of Erin from the show The Office :) Upon sitting down my arms were stuck to the surface of the table. I looked down on the floor and could immediately spot trash and see where things hadn't been cleaned in a while. There were fingernails that were visible and dusty as well. Menus also had a scent like they aren't wiped down regularly. The food was really good with the exception of the spicy yellowfin wonton tacos, which even after notifying the waitress that I didn't like them, she still chose to leave on my tab and made me pay for (I had one bite and left the whole thing). Other than that, flavor was great with all the rolls we had. I want to say I'd come back, but cleanliness is a huge factor for me and I'm not sure right now. read more

I used to come here all the time for a casual sushi bite but sadly the quality has really gone downhill in the last year or so. When I do visit now (which is infrequently), I really only order the Crunchy Roll or Chicken Fried Rice due to having a couple questionable experiences with some of their other raw rolls. Dine in service is okay. It's not typically too busy but somehow still takes awhile to get your food. When ordering online for takeout they always seem to miss something so I recommend double checking your order before leaving. It's a bummer because my mom and I used to enjoy coming here together, but we have since found a new go-to sushi place. read more

Was not a fan of the chicken teriyaki rice bowl. The teriyaki sauce just wasn't that great and they did not put enough sauce on it. The sauce was honestly a bit spicy, I prefer when my teriyaki sauce is sweet. I also wish they used normal rice instead of sticky rice for their fried rice. Unfortunately RB sushi's value has gone down quite a bit. We came twice in the past 2 months and it's been mostly empty from 2-5pm. The sushi rolls are heavy on rice and not much on creativity. They're not bad but I think for happy hour, the prices should be a little lower than 20% off. Everyone misses their OG AYCE option. Service is friendly and efficient. read more

Small entrance but spacious inside. Menu has lots of options. I had a "Fire" baked sushi roll and tempura--sauce-heavy but filling, shrimp was good, zucchini bitter. My husband had sashimi, which looked less fresh but tasted fine. Overall, 6-7/10. Wasabi tasted off, like bean powder. Average spot, decent for North County. read more

This place slays!!! My new favorite sushi spot in SD. Owner is a rad dude, staff is very nice and the Toro Crudo dish is ridiculously delicious, definitely my favorite item on the menu. He made me a custom dish as well that I requested, without hesitation, photo is below, cream cheese on a fried oba leaf, tobiko, masago and uni insane... and they have Orion beer!! The best. So disappointed because this used to be my go to sushi restaurant. We would always bring friends & family & recommend but the last few times we have gone, the quality has gone down significantly. The rice is hard, quality of fish is low often with a fishy smell & fried foods taste of old oil. Years ago, I used to frequent here almost every week. It was the sushi spot to go. Great AYCE and 40% off Mondays. Unfortunately with the pandemic, like many other restaurants, they had to alter their operations. Very understandable, but with my recent experience, it seems like they've haven't been able to fully bounce back. I came here on a Sunday night, was seated right away as the restaurant wasn't very full. I was super excited to do AYCE again since it's been so long since I've been back. But unfortunately the waitress told us they stopped AYCE since the pandemic. My fault for not checking ahead of time but it was okay. We ended up ordering the Oh No roll, UFO roll and Baked Zarigani roll. All tasted good, kind of how I remembered. I wanted to order a few more side dishes but hard to justify without AYCE. But to note, a few of my old favorites are the cream cheese wontons and salmon nigiri. Overall, my latest experience was fine. Food was fine, service was standard. I just feel like it was missing the spark it used to have years ago. It was different coming in and not seeing the crowd it used to have. It's been years since enjoying an authentic Japanese meal at RB Sushi. I remember my first time was a AYCE Sushi meal and it was it was amazing!!! The restaurant was packed with patrons and the ambience was electric!!! Each time driving home on northbound 15, I would glance over and remember fondly that night!!! Today, it was a lunch date with my beloved and the impression I got when we entered the door was "sophistication"! I remember how the old restaurant was crowded and dark (maybe because it was nighttime) and feeling how it seemed like we were in Japan (like how on YouTube the restaurants were shown as being small and tight on space). Now, the restaurant was warm and sunny and bright with lots and lots of space!!! However, the food is still delicious!!! Had a salmon skin roll, with the skin crisp as bacon, full of umami and healthy Omega-3s. I also had the chicken katsu Lunch Special which was wonderful. The menu seemed more extensive than before and definitely easier to read with my older eyes. Definitely coming back!!! The servers were friendly and efficient (meaning the cooks were quick and there were less than 10 guests in the restaurant, perfect timing to enjoy our lunch). Don't think they do all you can eat anymore.

I did hear they don't do that anymore, shame, but it was only for one person at a time and you had to eat there, but alas no more.

Super random question, but this has been bugging me for some time now haha. What does the "RB" in RB Sushi stand for? I always thought it alluded to the Rancho Bernardo location, but was told that's not the case. Anyone know?
