Last night we went there with a big group and some of them were skeptical about Indian food. The whole group found the staff very friendly, polite and helpful. Also everybody enjoyed the delicious high quality food even those who were not a big fan! Chicken Malai Tikka($15.99) boneless chicken marinated in creamy mild sauce cooked in clay oven and served with dipping sauce I ordered this for takeout and the packaging was stapled which was nice! The chicken was tender and juicy, though there were only about 10 cubes or less of meat in there plus a dollop of side pickled vegetables (eg. radish) and a lemon wedge. The flavour was there but the portion was definitely not. Maybe I ordered the wrong item as this was an appetizer, so the portions may be smaller by default. Also ordered the plain naan bread for 2.49 or something came with great rice many pieces of chicken and 3 large pieces of Naan all for under 20.00. So we've been ordering Skip the Dishes from here for forever so we decided to actually go in one day and eat at the restaurant itself. My partner is obsessed with the Cauliflower 65 and always wants to order it. Our order: Veg Pakoras, Cauliflower 65, Butter Palak Paneer, Saffron Rive and Naan. We also got tea which I loved. I've never had tea like that at in Indian restaurant before! So that was something new. Our server was nice and food came out quickly so that was good. The place itself is small but decorated nicely. They have a nice little bar that you can sit at too which I really liked! One thing that I found to be absolutely wild was the insane amount of Skip the Dishes drivers coming in to pick up food. We saw a steady stream of drivers throughout our evening. There was only us and one other table actually eating there. So they must make some decent coin on skip. Y Not Indian is the restaurant that has replaced my dearly departed Naanolicious. The restaurant interior looks very much the same, and the menu has a few familiar items like stuffed naan break and wraps. Staff and service are very friendly, and prices are reasonable. I tried the paneer tikka the first time, and found the cheese moist and full of flavour - paneer can often be dense and dry, but that was not the case here. Paired with saffron rice, it was a very satisfying dish. I had the bone-in chicken biryani the next time. The chicken was tender and delicious and the rice which enveloped it had a symphony of flavours. It was a bit spicy for my taste and the chicken was completely buried within the rice making it a little difficult to eat in terms of avoiding bones. I would probably go for the chicken tikka or tandoori chicken instead. read more

After reading a few Yelp reviews for Y Not Indian last week, my husband mentioned he would quite like to get an Indian take away at the weekend. This came after he chipped all the ice from the path so I know he needed food asap! I checked out the website and they offer a few options for take out or pick up and I order us a variety of curries, pakoras and naan to share. The lamb curry was great with the saffron rice and the chicken tikka is so good with a garlic naan. Our house is also getting over a horrible flu so we were happy they were pretty spicy! Our daughter really enjoyed the amritari fish (like pakora). I liked the mint sauce but I'd love to find an Indian restaurant that makes the pink yoghurt dip you get in the UK. Fresh and delicate flavors, fair serving sizes, the spice is not overpowering, the naan is just right, but could do with a slightly bigger rice serving. Friendly service and most of the classics on the menu. Water was a bit dusty and tasted like tap water. I'll be back to explore more of the menu! read more

Excellent Indian food for a modest price. My spouse and I ordered 4 dishes: butter chicken, Aloo Gobi, spinach and cheese, and yellow lentil currie. We also ordered the vegetable samosas which came with two delicious sauces. We decided to go with just one order of rice. We ordered 4 dishes to have the variety thinking we'd have enough for an extra meal. We barely made a dent on the dishes after filling up pretty well. Our rice was half gone, but we think we'll get three more meals from what was left over, using our own rice. There was a nice mix of flavours and although we weren't asked about spicy-ness at the time of our order, we were pleased with the mild to medium range of the dishes. The yellow lentil dish was the mildest and the only dish I'll probably not order again. Next time, it's Chana Masala, the chickpea dish. Great take out. read more

I've been a big fan of the Y Not Indian downtown in Scotia Place for a long time and the new Whyte Ave location holds up aptly with simple but fresh curries and a much more varied menu. In my 5 star rating for Y Not Indian's downtown fast food iteration, I had high praise for the robust flavours on display and fresh, flaky naan. The Whyte Ave location boasts the same great flavours, same delicious naan and same great value but with the addition of a wider variety of appetizers, tandoori mains, and stuffed naans. I didn't try the incredible mushrooms or cauliflower appetizers but they're on my to-try list for sure! As is typical for great Indian restaurants, there is a solid range of vegetarian options and traditional dishes such as the dal tarka and matar paneer are executed to perfection. Overall, Y Not Indian's expansion to Whyte ave expands on what makes the downtown location great and while there aren't many thing son this menu that you wouldn't see at any other Indian restaurant, there's definitely something to be said for simple and well-executed curries and some of the freshest naan you can find. read more

I asked for mild. Staff are friendly & efficient. Paying $1.00 for my added chicken brought the cost to $7.99 I received homemade "chips" with a sweet/spicy dip, for free while waiting the 5 minutes for my hot delicious hearty bowl. So at first I was really hesitant to try this place as the last Indian restaurant I tried in edmonton was terrible, but am I ever happy i did!!! What a wonderful restaurant! We have only had it from skip the dishes so far, but it has been absolutely amazing even for delivery! We cannot wait to try it in the restuarant. But as for my skip order, great packing always holds everything tight and keeps it warm, Fantastic portions for how much you pay and amazing taste! My partner and I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! The staff there are all super friendly and welcoming! You can most definitely tell from the way they treat you that they care about customer satisfaction and do really want you to want to come back the next time. They're also our go to for skip the dishes... portion size is beyond decent and presentation of the food is lovely! Best Indian food we've ever had! Three stars for the kitchen. The food is tasty. I took one star down for their take-out menu, the other star down because their lamb curry had very few lamb... If you are about to order takeout, you should pay attention that their takeout menu is more expensive than dining in menu. The lamb curry doesn't include rice or nann bread, while the dining in menu include rice or nann bread. If you wanna add rice or naan to your curry, it is $4.99 for takeout. Plus the server didn't tell us The $4.99 includes both rice and naan until we kept kept asking him. I am not sure if I want to go back but if you don't mind this little "price trick" of earning money, honestly their food tasted alright. read more

Even though Chef's are Nepali's and preparing mostly Indian Menu...the taste is very much great and very much Authentic food ...well balance in between Indian and Western tastes... We order from Y-Not Indian fairly often through Skip the Dishes. I typically ask for "very spicy, please" and every time they delivery. Most times, I eat Canadian food and it's bland, but with them, I'm crying and/or sweating! Please keep it up! read more
