I've been to Khazana in downtown Edmonton a few times now. Overall, they offer decent food and atmosphere but they are a little on the expensive side, so I'd give them 7.8/10 read more

There are several Indian restaurants in this city that have come and gone. However, this is the one that stands line with its reputation of food and service. It has a unique ambiance inside that makes you fall in love in summers and winters. Their menu items are some of the best I have tasted in the city. That means a lot coming from a Delhiite who can appreciate and rate its authentic dishes. Don't fall for the hype or ratings provided elsewhere, this is a must try. Came for the lunch buffet with a group from work today. Man, did we ever sneak in at just the right time - 1145am. By 1215 the place was PACKED with a line wrapping almost out the door for the buffet. Food was fresh and pretty darn good. Not my favourite butter chicken or naan but excellent saag paneer. The pakora was a little dried out today and I couldn't find mango chutney anywhere. The fried fish was excellent. The chili chicken (wing style) was a fave but we all agreed we would have liked it spicier. Lots of seating that was quickly filled up by the downtown crowd. Great ambience, funky metal water goblets, and a beautiful open round fireplace that didn't make it too hot inside. The staff were friendly and the dessert bar was hopping with more choices than I could try. For $16.95, you can't be beat Khazana and I'll most definitely be back! read more

Happened to be in edmonton so why wouldn't I check out an established Indian restaurant? There was me on a Monday night. Place was almost dead around 8:30 since they close at 9:30. Though they did get 4 more tables after we sat down ( Indian like late dinners) Anyway!!! The moment u step in , u do get to see elaborate decor, numerous newspapers n photographs featuring restaurant n the owner. But there is no usher. I mean with a kind of huge set up they have ,there should either be an usher or someone to greet at the door . The tea room is also in front of the restaurant which was empty(pretty obvious as it was nite) Basically a fine dine set up with cloth napkins n expensive crockery. There are 2 fireplaces (real ones) and huge buffet which was not serving food. Maybe they have different time for buffet. Well! The servers can speak good English and they are pretty nice in services. It was pure vegetarian meal for me as my friend is vegetarian. Extra star for getting us big plate of salad ( usually restaurants serve salad as if it's worth $1000) I mean come on , its just raw veggies so be generous n throw plenty of it. Servers serve traditional Indian food attired in traditional clothing. There is a full fledged bar for all kind of drinks. U can even order cocktails .Nothing so extra ordinary about food. But if you like your vindaloo hot, bring your own chili powder, as these guys have a great deal of trouble spicing things up, despite my ongoing requests. Friendly service. I've been to Khazana half a dozen times and it's be fantastic each time. The staff are polite and quick with their service. I've done two large group dinners here and was able to add guests to my reservation right up until the date online. One was a group of 17 and one was a group of 16. You can book online and you can also make any changes to your reservation online which is nice when you're adding people or having people cancel. I always have the butter chicken, the garlic naan, and the saffron rice. The portions are generous and I always have enough to take some home. I usually order a second order of naan bread before we leave to take home and use with my left overs. The atmosphere in this restaurant is perfect for my taste, The lights are dimmed, there is a fire place in the middle, brass cups, just an over all great feel. That being said, this restaurant does not have a pretentious vibe, which is refreshing. Can't wait to go again! read more

It can get pretty busy here, especially on Friday, for lunch, so it's a good idea to make a reservation or come before noon. The restuarant is large but has a nice homey feel to it. Most people had the buffet and at a price of $14.95, it is reasonable. There was the salad bar that had about 8 different options, and soup. The line up for the hot food was the longest but it is worth the wait. There is an excellent selection of food that seems to meet everyone's likes including mild and spicy, vegetarian choices, fish, goat, and chicken. Although it wasn't the best naan I've had, I like that it's served fresh to the table. If you have room, there is a small selection of desserts to choose from. Even with a busy restaurant, I found the service was consistent to take away our dirty plates, and bringing bread. I will definitely be back and make sure I have room to enjoy a hearty meal. read more

This is my second time to eat at khazana and I quite enjoyed my experience. Unfortunately the parking is a bit annoying as all meters are changed until 10 pm and they charge 3.50 an hour. You can get free parking/parking that ends at 6 a few blocks away. The restaurant itself is a lovely set up. Nice decor, with a fireplace and it looks quite classy. They also have very nice bathrooms! The service was excellent. Our servers were polite, consistent with checking in on us, and they provided good recommendations. We had the butter chicken which was delicious. We also ordered the biryani with goat (Very tender), the Tikka masala (my favorite and most spicy/flavorful). All this was accompanied by garlic and butter naan. I found it all to be very flavorful with a perfect amount of spice. The naan was fresh and buttery with just a bit of flakiness! Went to Khazana again recently on a Monday night and had a much better experience. Once again, service was good and the food came out even quicker than last time (not sure how that was even possible). This time we ordered: - Butter chicken ($17) - boneless chicken pieces with tomatoes, garlic and ginger in a nice butter sauce. Sauce is perfect to soak up with the naan bread. - Goat biryani ($21 I think) - rice is much more flavourful than ordering the side rice dishes and went well with the goat. - Regular naan ($3) Gave it an extra star this time but overall, I think it deserves a 3.5. read more

If the cut on the butter chicken was smaller I would rate it 4 The cut made it a bit to big and chewy but you could taste the smokyness and grill which is lacking at alot of places. It was a bit small bowl for $20 Decent spice level good sauce. The naan was some of the best I have had and decent portion. The rice was fresh and cheap it didnt have alot of saffron flavor but I didnt mind. It was double the portion size needed for the curry. Very good the next day. Had multiple fire pits inside and even a view of the copper plated kitchen where the chef was making fresh naan in the tandoor oven. I went for the lunch buffet, I prefer buffets when I am craving indian so I can try multiple curries, etc. Their buffet was very delicious! Butter and tandoori chicken were amazing and also the daal! A good place to go for a work lunch because the food is hot and ready to go. The place fills up quickly, especially on Fridays, so make sure to go early. It's a beautiful restaurant with nice fireplaces and decor. The water comes in beautiful copper cups. The buffet comes with naan bread which they bring hot and fresh to your table. Khazana specializes in East Indian tandoori cuisine. Rich, spicy sauces with plentiful chunks of meat or vegetables typify Khazana's menu. There are numerous vegetarian items to choose from, featuring lentils, mushrooms, chickpeas, and paneer, a homemade Indian cheese almost like ricotta. On the meat side of things, items like butter chicken and beef korba are extremely satisfying. I really enjoy seeing the naan bread prepared through the glass window in front of the clay oven where it is baked. The buffet (for lunch every day and for supper several times a week) is also a great value - be sure to come hungry! read more

I have found in Edmonton that there is two types of Indian restaurant, ones that operate in a less flavourful way as if the dishes have been adapted for a blander palette like New Asian Village. And then there are the rich, savoury and spicy restaurants like Khazanas that have there own unique touch for the more adventurous palettes. I went to the lunch buffet today with my coworkers. The moment you walk through the doors your senses are delighted with the smells of spices, warm open fires and a georgous atmosphere. We were seated at a large round wooden table and were served water in copper cups. At the buffet there was a section with fresh fruit, vegetables and desserts. A canteen of hot Masala Chia was beside the plates and cups. I headed right for the meals. There was plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. The buffet started with a basmati rice then off to the saucier dishes; Chana Masala, Karai Paneer (cheese cooked with tomatoes, onions and peppers), Eggplant and potatoes, Dali, Vegetable Samosas, mint and tamarind sauce, a goat dish, Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken and a Fish dish. I admit I had two plates of the vegetarian options. It was a perfect blend of spices with the chickpeas, lentils, eggplant and potatoes. Everyone was relaxed and enjoyed each other's company over a delicious meal. This is one of my favorites in Edmonton and I would definitely recommend and choose this location in the future. read more

I am working thru a cold right now so did not have too much of an appetite unfortunately but everything I had tasted sooooo good I wish I could have eaten more! We started with the night with masala chai tea, then ordered the beef ribs (can't remember what they're called). We shared coconut rice, butter chicken and garlic naan. Went here for buffet dinner this week and was pretty impressed. The restaurant itself has very fancy decorum and I really liked the vibe and the setting of the restaurant. The buffet had a good selection of vegetarian and also meat options. The servers were really attentive and knowledgeable about the food when we had questions. I'm a butter chicken lover and the butter chicken here was delicious! The dessert section was really good too... I loved the mango pudding, I think that this was my favourite. I also enjoyed the Chai tea that they offered. It was very tasty and the tea was super comforting. The buffet itself costed around $27 a person so that wasn't bad. There are cheaper Indian restaurants in the south side of the city that offer the same range of food, quality and taste for a lower price but it was good for the moment. Ok wow. This restaurant is seriously number one for Indian food in Edmonton. I honestly didn't know what to expect, from outside it really doesn't look like much but as soon as you walk in the door all of a sudden it's Taj Mahal stuff, and you're in front of a fecking fire pit with mad lanterns all around. It's so atmospheric and authentic from start to finish. I went with a group of pals so we ordered a mixture of different dishes to share. The server was very patient with us, while we decided. We were all hungry before we arrived and didn't anticipate how long the food would take. But then we didn't realize we got to watch the chef in a fancy wee kitchen prepare our meal. The lamb bhuna and chicken tikka were stand out amazing dishes from the selection we ordered. Amazing food, atmosphere and service. Completely worth the five stars. Beautiful. read more

As far as I can see there's no reason to rate khazana less than a 4. The atmosphere is transformative, when you come in you leave the street (where there is plenty of parking) and enter a place that is warm, golden, woody, and spicy, all just a bit indulgent. The food is pretty much indisputably wonderful Indian cuisine. You can have chicken, tofu and goat; all done different ways if you have the buffet. I particularly love the copper cups. After trying them here and seeing how fresh and cold the water stays in these cups we watched for copper cups to have at home. I have never ordered off the menu, I have always had the buffet...over and over again....many times.... Start with salads, move on to chicken of many varieties, different meats, rices, lentils and so on... everyone I know who goes here, goes for the butter chicken...everyone. The desserts are delightful, lots of choices, ranging from healthy fruit to sugary treats dripping in syrup...all good. read more

So I had dinner one evening recently and it was pricey but all good and tasty. Everything is ala carte on the dinner menu and it adds up. A couple days later I went in and had the lunch special, which allowed you to choose from an assortment of items. I don't have much experience with Indian food; before Khazana I'd probably been only three or four times. I've really been craving Indian food lately, so when my dad called me up on Friday and asked if me and my husband wanted to go to Khazana for dinner that night, I thought "Perfect!". My dad was able to make a reservation for six at 6pm online, which he really liked. The first thing that struck me when I walked in was how big it was. I've walked by the restaurant downtown tons of times and didn't expect it to be so big. The decor is very warm and cozy, wood and gold with a cool fireplace right near our table. Speaking of our table, it was made of this gorgeous wood, the metal water glasses were cool looking and the place setting were nice as well. A very visually appealing place overall for sure. There was also some nice music playing in the background, not too loud to be distracting, but just perfect to complete the atmosphere. Since there were six of us, we ordered an appetizer and then each picked something of the menu that we would all share. We ordered: - Two orders of mogo ($5.25 each) - Four orders of garlic nan bread ($3.75 each) - Chana pindi (chick peas) ($11.25) - Tandoori salmon ($19.25) - Butter chicken ($15.25) - Peshawari kebab (lamb) ($18.50) - Coconut shrimp - Lamb shank ($19.95) - Basmati rice My dad also had a mango lassi that was quite refreshing and delicious. Wow, was that a lot of food! We just about managed to finish everything, but not quite. The flavours were amzing and distinct. The lamb shank was incredible, melt in your mouth, fantastic spices, wow. The butter chicken was great, and I loved the garlic nan. There was nothing on the table I didn't like. I used to go to Khazana a lot more when they first opened. They were at that time possibly the best Indian restaurant in town. Now, not so much. The food is still o.k., but when you compare it to other Indian options it wouldn't be my pick. The buffet is usually well stocked, and has a decent selection, but I think the flavour of the food is kind of middle of the road. Hence the 3 stars. My biggest issue last visit though is that I was halfway finished my first plate before any naan arrives at the table... and since i'm a naan eatin' fool this is a problem. And the naan I got was super thin in spots, and really thick in others. So you get part that's overly crispy, and parts that are raw dough. Not cool. read more

I've tried other Indian restaurants in the city, and sometimes have short-term love affairs with them, but I keep coming back to Khazana. The restaurant is well-decorated and very cozy - warm rich wood everywhere makes you feel at home, and the fireplace adds further warmth to the atmosphere. For appetizers, I love the pakora and the flavourful sauces that are served with them.The SO and I generally order the Mixed Grill, which is a good sampler of tandoori meats: Tandoori chicken, grilled salmon Peshawari & Alberta Beef Boti, as well as lamb. To lighten it up, try requesting the Tandoori salad (peppers, onions, pineapple and paneer) instead of one of the meats - they are happy to substitute the dishes for you. I also love the Shahi Paneer, which features the same sauce as Butter Chicken, but contains cubes of fresh paneer instead of meat. Order lots of Naan bread to soak up all of the delicious sauce. We have had a few negative experiences here. In one instance the server was very unfriendly and inattentive and the buffet's food was on the cold side (and quite mushy). However, I learned my lesson from this visit and have since stuck to ordering off the menu - this rarely disappoints. Solid food with generally good service can be expected at Khazana. read more

Ever since Karma closed and Haweli was bought by new owners (and started to suck), I have been searching for a great Indian restaurant downtown. I recently visited Khazana and wondered why I haven't been here earlier. I thought it was really good. The first time I went, I had the buffet, which was excellent, for a buffet. However, I prefer to order off the menu, so I wanted to try that before giving my official Yelp review. This last visit to Khazana, my party ordered the fried mogo and the fish khazana for appetizers. Both were crispy and seasoned perfectly. For dinner, we had the vegetable bryani (rice), lahori chana (chick peas), and bhagari baigan (eggplant). The chana had very interesting flavours and was very tasty, but the baigan certainly stole the show. The eggplant was cooked to perfection, silky smooth, but not mushy, and exquisitely seasoned. They served very large pieces of garlic naan, not skimping at all. And it was fun to watch the naan being prepared behind the glass wall separating the dining room from the kitchen. Be prepared to take your time and enjoy your meal at Khazana. It's not a place to go if you are feeling rushed. The service is attentive, even with a large crowd, but good Indian food takes a while to prepare. And it's worth the wait. read more

Exquisite is the only word to describe the flavours that are produced and married in this beautiful restaurant. My aunt April and her boyfriend Steve were in town for the Greenday Concert so we decided to go for dinner. Khazana is just down the street from our condo so we decided to pop in for dinner as we are all big fans of Indian food. The restaurant was rather empty, but it was 5:30 on a Monday night. The lack of people was in our favor as we were seated right by the beautiful central firepit. The tables themselves are beautifully set with copper toned glasses and silverware. Our server quickly took our drink order and left us with an extensive menu to browse. He quickly returned with our drinks and told us about the "Special"- an array of appetizers and mains with dessert as well as a tour of the clay ovens and a demonstration on how they make Naan. We couldn't resist and it was a heck of a lot easier than trying to decide between four hungry people over a very large menu of delicious sounding delicacies! We were given a tour of the clay ovens and watched as the chef stuck and unstuck naan to the side of the ovens. The smell alone was worth the price of the "special". We then enjoyed the bread at our table with our meal. The food was beautiful and WAY too much for four people, as was to be expected for 40$/person. The curries were perfectly blended, the meat tender and juicy, and the saffron rice fragrant and subtle. We ate as much as we could and packaged the rest up. The left-overs fed my husband and I for three more meals! I will be back in the very near future for another sampling. read more

I LOVE Indian food, absolutely love it! I've been to Khazana twice. The first time was for dinner. When I walked into Khazana, I was impressed at the decor of the restaurant. It's absolutely huge on the inside. The fireplace that sits in the middle of 1 dining area was awesome. Khazana's menu is pretty expansive! I was surprised to see one of my all time favorite "British-Indian" dishes - Rogan Josh. For dinner, our waitress was super friendly - she made many recommendations on her favorite dishes as well as favorite naans. I asked her if I could substitute chicken in the Rogan Josh instead of lamb & she confirmed it wouldn't be a problem - boy was I excited! My colleague ordered chicken biryani. First the papadum came out - it was pretty good, a bit spicy, but still good! Our food came out shortly after, which was perfect because we were STARVING! The Rogan Josh hit the spot for me - I'd been dying for this dish & hadn't been able to find it in the US. I ordered onion kulcha - it was good, BUT was drenched in butter. (Note to self - next time onion kulcha no butter) All around good food, great service & nice restaurant. On to the lunch experience. Again I went with a colleague as she wanted Indian buffet for lunch. The lunch buffet was meh! I was really hoping to see something like chicken tikka masala on the lunch buffet since it's kind of a standard. They had butter chicken on the lunch buffet, but it was terribly bland. Veggie pakoras were perfect - good and spicy! The service at lunch wasn't nearly as good as it was at dinner, but the restaurant had a huge lunch crowd. Khazana might be my favourite restaurant in the City of Edmonton. It was the one that introduced my wife to Indian cuisine (and became one of her favourites, too). The interior is gorgeous, with an indoor fireplace and traditional Indian rugs hung on the walls. It's definitely ideal for a cozy winter night out. The ambience is part of the experience of eating at Khazana. Staff are friendly and helpful, and a few have been there for the entire five years I have been frequenting this restaurant, which I interpret as a good sign. Last time we had a meal at Khazana, the server noted that we had waited an unusually long time to place our order, so she added some freebies of our choice. Nice! I can't say I have tried everything on the menu, but I am a fan of their versions of two traditional North Indian favourites: butter chicken and tandoori chicken. The naan is also excellent: both crispy and chewy. You can view the chef making the naan through a glass partition. My wife enjoys the aloo gobi, a vegetable dish based on potatoes and cauliflower. Also, they have a very good buffet that they have expanded to include quite a few days per week, but I can't recall which days exactly. Call them, they are friendly! While it's not a cheap restaurant, I do think it delivers good value. You can probably expect to pay about $65-70 for two people, with wine and before tip. read more

The best Indian in the city, with made to order chai, the best tandoori salmon I have ever had, and fantastic scorching lamb vindaloo. Beef dishes along with vegetarian dishes are fantastic and fresh. The service we find to be traditional, and very personable/professional. The ambiance with two fireplaces and sometimes live music, makes this the most rustic and attractive Indian restaurant bar none. Not a fan of the buffet which is only at certain times and you don't have to have the buffet, in fact not a fan of any type of buffet with clearly cheaper quality old sitting food. A real stigma on Indian restaurants. I know it's a money maker, but food quality and presentation before the bucks, like your normal a la carte menu which is fantastic. read more

The groupon is only available for dinner so I was a little taken aback when I arrived at lunch and had to pay &20+ for a sub-par buffet menu and horrible service by the waiters who would rather be flirting around with each other then to do their job. Clearly my own mistake for not reading the details about the lunch buffet. And to top it off I guess they were having talks on a potential renovation up by the entrance as one of the waiters came up to our table to tell us that they will be taking the buffet table down and asked if what we ate was enough?? This restaurant has one of nicest decor and atmosphere's out of all the Indian restaurants I've been. There is a plenty of wood everywhere, high ceilings, well lit, just enough Indian decorations to make it authentic and a low volume Indian music playing in the background that is not too obtrusive. I went on Wednesday which is one of the nights they have buffet ($20.95/ person). Although it is definitely not the largest buffet in Edmonton as advertised it is a respectable set of Indian offerings like Daal Tarka, Mutter Paneer, Butter Chicken, Chana Pindi, Kadi Rajasthani, Vegetable Pakora, Goat Rogan Josh, Chili Chicken and Fried Fish. The buffet also comes with Plain Naan or Garlic Naan (other flavours are not free) and Chai Tea. There were standard desserts like custard, melons and rice pudding. Each of dishes are all good in their own right but not exceptional. I would have liked to see better quality chicken in the Butter Chicken. The garlic Naan was delicious and the Tea which was in a large heating container of course was not as fresh as I would like it to be.The service was good but not great as we had to flag down our servers several times to get some refills or even offered more Naan. Although the buffet is good it may not be there best examples of Indian food as buffets are not always the freshest or replenished often enough. I've been to Khazana several times, but only for the lunch buffet. I have to admit, that I absolutely love coming here! Whenever a friend suggests a lunch, I'm always hoping that they'll want to come here. First of all, I love that you can make reservations online. I would suggest 11:45-11:50 if possible to avoid the lunch time rush if you're in a tighter timeline! This place is really busy during this hour. That being said, I've never felt rushed or that I had to wait a long time to get anything. This place has a very cozy feel, with fires lit and beautiful decor. I love the service here as well, even when it is busy, I find that my water is constantly being re-filled and the naan bread comes almost as soon as I'm seated with my plate of food. And since I mentioned the food! I think I have tried almost every dish they offer at the buffett (that's the point of buffet.. Right?! My waistline may disagree!) As far as my memory serves me, I've had the aloo gobi, chicken tikka, butter chicken, saag paneer, channa masala, daal, vegetable pakora, basmati and saffron rice - all divine!
