I've had Khan Kebabs bookmarked for awhile so we decided to give it a try for my last dinner in town. They do a mix of Pakistani, Afghani and Mediterranean food. You'll find them in the same plaza as The Three Amigos and Pizza Unlimited & Fried Chicken. We dropped in on a Sunday evening (around 6:30pm) and it was busier than I anticipated. We had the (un)fortune of being seated behind a family of 10 that couldn't handle their two crying kids. Service was friendly but oddly they don't provide any real cutlery, plates or water for the table. The menu consists of BBQ meats (chicken, beef, lamb and fish), mixed platters, family deals, chef's specials, burgers & wraps and desserts. They also have 5 lunch special options (12:00pm to 3:00pm). We were asked how spicy we wanted our dishes and opted for medium. - Chicken karahi (peshawari style) (#16) ($23.99 for 1/2kg) - this came with two pieces of naan. We were told half a kg option is good enough for two. Sauce had great flavour. Chicken was tender (with several pieces bone-in) but portion size seems small. - Tandoori butter chicken (#18) ($11.99) - sauce was slightly on the sweeter side and went well with the naan. Barely any pieces of chicken though. You'd expect more than 6 tiny pieces for the price. - Afghani/kabuli pulao (#19) ($14.99) - the lamb didn't have any gamey flavour and unfortunately was dry. The rice was better executed. Serviceable but Afghan Chopin Kebab does it better. - Peshawari beef chapli kebab (#20) ($12.99 for 2) - this came with one piece of naan. The mince beef patties were tasty but small. Again, small meat portions for the price point. - Chicken biryani (#21) ($11.99) - chicken was tender and flavours were well balanced. This one even had a small heat kick. Would get this again. - 3x Mango lassi ($2.99) - you'll find these in their drink fridge. One of the cheapest mango lassi's I've seen in a long time. Smooth and good mango flavour. - Gulab jamun ($3.50 for 4) - these were cooked to order. L and C loved them and said these were some of the best they've had. Pleasant texture and not too sweet. Definitely come with a group so that you can try a variety of dishes at KK. 3.5 stars. read more

The kababs didn't have much seasoning/ flavor to them. The biryani rice was tasty with raita (that cost extra) The price of the food was economical. Ambience was ok for dine in and service was fast. #11 with a mango lasi. The food was fabulous. I simply have a problem if you cannot serve a glass of water, the basics of life. I know the rules: "only restaurants that serve alcohol are required to provide free drinking water, unlike Quebec". And if dining in, you are served on paper plates and plastic cutlery. I stopped in today for lunch. The food is excellent. We had the mixed kebob and chickpea with naan. It was all delicious and perfectly spiced. The mango lassi was the same, and fresh. The service was great. It is apparent they care much about providing good service, The owner checked up with us several times. You could see into the clean organized kitchen. And the Washrooms were a pleasure to use, very clean. This is a great "Good Food" restaurant in an area of the city with very few good eating spots. I look forward to going back for more good food! To the chef/owner who was a Multan born from a Peshwari family, this food is his memory of his home, Pakistan. A conversation between us was smoothly flown as I shared my foods' memory when I visited Lahore, Multan and Peshawar. It was quite a memory especially Peshawar is the frontier city to Afghanistan which I visited on June 2004.⁣ You won't see too much garam masala like in Indian foods. According to the chef, it relies to its meat's flavour. Surely, lamb was spiced up with slices of green chilies. Don't expect any pork or alcohol in this establishment as it's a halal restaurant. Nice people run Khan Kebabs and the food that they offer is genuinely good. Why only three stars then? Well, it's the cost. While Khan Kebabs isn't expensive as such, I feel the food that the kitchen turns out is a tad pricey for what you get and for the surroundings. All in all, it isn't a bad place, though. This is by far the most authentic restaurant I have come across in Edmonton for Chicken Karahi. Also ordered fish tikka which gave the again the true taste of tikka. Although the naan the provided was not that fresh but the overall experience was still great! read more
