This place has a good collection of different Paranthas and the main draw. The ambience is simple and location is in a strip mall. The staff was courteous and gave good service. I ordered a Aloo Parantha with Rajma, Dahi and lassi. For an appetizer, I had samosa plate. The paranta is huge and two people can eat it. It went well with the Rajma and Dahi. The taste of Rajma sent me back to my younger days in North India. It was a hearty, homely dish. The Gulab Jamun dessert was pretty delicious. A good meal here. read more

Recently we attended the garden anniversary party of our dear friend. The food was catered by Punjab Paratha hut and it was fantastic. I have been craving paratha since a recent visit to a favourite family spot in Surrey. I had no idea YEG had a paratha place! Traditionally a breakfast or brunch food (think savory, stuffed crepes except roti). This place is serving it up. It doesn't get more authentic than this. The menu is vegetarian and everything is so satisfying and hearty. Make sure you get a side of mahkan & dahi - paratha are best with a big dollop of butter, and dipped in yogurt. I visited this place again because I wanted to try their paratha and chaat. I had never had chaat before and was pleasantly delighted. The mixture of sweet, sour, savory and crispy was a burst of flavour and textures in my mouth. The parathas were great, I had a potato one and a cauliflower one; the server that took my order helped me go through the different types because there are no descriptions on the menu to tell you what the name means and it was not in English. I'm always on the hunt for new vegetarian places to try (for a friend, I swear) Well, I came across someone's highly touted review of the Punjab Paratha Hut and deemed it worth of a drive way out to Milwoods. I didn't even realize that they share the same plaza as Pho Hoan Pasteur (their 3rd location) and PrimeTime donair. There's about 10 tables and is pretty casual inside. It smells amazing the moment you walk through the doors. The menu is completely vegetarian but the parathas are their specialty (Indian stuffed breads). - Condiments - there was pickled onions, pickled carrot, jalapeno pepper and one other one we couldn't figure out. Just try them all. - Papadum - these had some serious heeeeeeat to them! Quite unexpected but we liked the fire. Mint sauce was refreshing but it even had an underlying heat to it. - Gobhi paratha ($3.95) and milijuli subji ka paratha ($3.95) - tasted similar but the onion inside were great. - Palak paratha ($3.95) and dhaniya paratha ($3.95) - first was stuffed with spinach, latter had cilantro and onion. - Paneer choley ($10.95) - this was fantastic; bright, unique and bursting with flavour. - Dal makhani ($10.95) - lentils aren't my fav but this was well balanced. I liked how it didn't feel heavy. - Paneer tikka masala ($12.95) - perfectly creamy and generous chunks of paneer. Yum. - Jeera rice ($5.95) -on it's own, the rice was pretty plain but not a big deal when you combine it with the sauces. Friendly, fast and delicious food. The go-to place in Edmonton for Parathas. These are stuffed Indian breads filled with various vegetables, the most popular being Aloo Paratha ie the one stuffed with potatoes. My favorites are the Paneer paratha - stuffed with cottage cheese as well as the Gobi paratha - stuffed with cauliflower. Be mindful that the aloo paratha is going be a carbo-load and hence pair it with some veggies, yogurt or Paneer to get the rest of your nutrients. read more

We happened to find this place on a parantha craving. In care you don't know, parantha is a handmade thin piece of dough usually made with different types of filling, commonly vegetarian filling. Usually accompanied by butter and homemade yoghurt, this is an Indian staple that is commonly eaten for breakfast or afternoon tea. We ordered the methi (a type of leafy veg), aloo (potato), mooli (daikon), gobhi (cauliflower) and chini (sugar) paranthas. Probably the best paranthas we've ever had, each one is made to order and rolled out to the perfect thinness. Don't forget to order butter and let it melt over top. You then break off pieces and dip them in the homemade yoghurt. Having a sweet tooth, I got the sugar parantha all to myself. This is where I died and went to heaven. I would best describe it almost like a crispy crepe, but way better. In some places the sugar had leaked out and gotten caramelized on their flat top grill. You could actually see the carmelization and taste the delicate layers of parantha with sugar folded into it. Thank God hubby didn't have a sweet tooth but I wouldn't have shared it anyways. This is one dish I will be dreaming about whenever I have a craving for something sweet and I can't wait to come back. read more

You walk into a clean, well kept dining area and seat yourself. The waiter brings you menus and water. We got the vegetable pakora, potato paratha, and cauliflower paratha. To my disappointment the vegetable pakora wasn't actual fried pieces of vegetables. It was a fried dough ball with the traditional pakora spices and some cilantro in it. The potato paratha did not have much potatoes in it but it tasted like a samosa, delicious. read more

i just went today morning@10:15. As their website says open from 10 am. i just entered and asked for dine in and the girl at front was sooo suprised by seeing me and no reaction at all about first customer of the day. when i asked her dine in for one person. she was like okay with angry face and said we just , we just open will take 25- 30 mints. so, i am also working as a manager in a restaurant. My question is that so, this is the way uh guys are treating ur customers even after 15 mint of ur opening and again i know things takes time as we are gonna start our day and all but the behaviour was like uh don't want anyone else to come at the restaurant And i feels like ohhh so it was my sin in the morning to visit your restaurant.Thank you sooo much for this at the starting of my beautiful day.. read more

I love "discovering" new places that AREN'T chains or  franchises. Welcome to Edmonton Punjab Parantha Hut restaurant & catering.  So here's the best place to start, start with the food.  The service was perfect, I ordered take-out and it was ready in less than 10 minutes.  I can sit in the greasiest place anywhere in the world and not even notice, that is, if the food transports you. I asked the owner, Harprit, what he recommends, I wanted one appetizer and one main dish.  I foolishly asked, 'Do you have naan to go with the curries?' to which he graciously brought me up to speed, 'We don't have naan, we're a parantha house so we make paranthas...'  For those of us not too familiar with paranthas, they are like a chapati, a simple unleavened flat bread, except kicked up 100%, made with a number of filling options that are cooked *get this* inside the layers of the bread.  It's like having a pita with stuff already inside it.  Like seriously, holy cow, man.  I got the suggested popular chick pea filled parantha, (garbanzo beans for you other folks who know such a rose by another name).  Just the parantha on its own, savoury, filled with protein-rich spicy chickpeas, was good like saying Starbucks is good compared to Timmy's.  Yes, it is that good, it took me by surprise. Chef suggested the chickpea curry ("Chole" [cho-lay] on the menu) as a good standard choice.  Asked me how hot I would like, now there's 'hot' for people who don't eat spicy food every day, which is actually mild and then there's "hot" where you pray for a quick death.  I know I'm in the middle somewhere, so I asked for medium, and did mention that I do eat Indian food and can handle some spice.  The chole is a generous amount, easily feeding 2 people. The chole also not what I am used to, where the chick peas are served in a more saucy curry over rice.  This was dark and thick like a meaty stew that you can fill a sandwich with, and the flavours were hitting me in all corners of my palate.  Smells flipping amazing. To combine all those flavours in one dish without killing it is tough, very tough.  Chef also suggested some plain paranthas to eat with it on the side, which were thick and crispy on the outside, they were buttery and perfect to go with a spicy meal like this.  Don't be shy, tear a piece off and fill it with stuff, like a tiny taco.... and.... enjoy.  Sooo good. On the side, Chef included some marinated carrot sticks, fresh red onion and my favorite bit, a jalapeno pepper filled with mixed pickle spices.  I love Indian mixed pickle, a tiny bit taken with each bite of your spicy food fills the flavours out.  Round out this meal with a full bodied IPA or lager and you can just go ahead and forget about me.  I'll catch up with you later.  I'm in my happy place and I don't need a thing from the world right then. Well done Chef, well done.  He said they use only natural ingredients, so he was apologising he didn't have red chillies to add to the sides, so he offered green Jalapeno instead.  I almost gasped, you're veg only (meatatarians need not bother because you won't find any hunks of meat here, everyone else will be pleasantly surprised with this little gem) given the amazing flavours in your mouth from this amazing food, you won't even notice, but they are also are all natural. Cool.  They offer all veg substitutes in their "butter chicken" etc, which I am eager to try next. Now I have to pinch myself, this is almost too good to be true for a South Side restaurant yet here it is waaaaaay off Whyte and in my backyard.  I think I'm gonna shed a tear :)  They opened 10 days ago in Main Street Mall on 28th ave and 66 street right where the old Blockbusters was, 10 am to 8pm weekends, 10 to 7 weekdays.  Skip the Subway, eat some real food, go to Punjab Parantha Hut. Best paranthas in the city hands down. The gajar achar (like a pickled spicy carrot) is exceptional! Ask for your paranthas on the tandoor so they aren't quite as oily. Order the mixed veg, aloo or gobi parantha! They also have curries but I can't comment as we only go for paranthas. The restaurant is simple but nobody here is going for the ambience. After a day out Christmas shopping we were hungry and decided to check out this restaurant. Located in strip mall on 28th ave. The sign only says The Punjab. Lots of parking outside. It's a quaint little restaurant. Floors were a little dirty being winter time and the walls looked worn out. Washrooms clean. We were seated immediately. Had to ask for the table to be wiped. Service was fast. Very delicious food. Price was very reasonable. Staff courteous and polite. Will definitely eat here again. read more

We ordered twice ...and both times the food was pathetic..they don't even care to follow special instructions . We had clearly specified no chillies as it was meant for my kid but the food was filled with chillies .. Definitely not ordering from here again. read more

What a find! Had an evening appointment nearby, and stopped in to this little place for supper. Good service, fantastic food! We had the samosas, chai tea, malai kofta, saag paneer, and 2 different types of paratha. The saag paneer was THE BEST I've ever had, and it is my go to dish in any Indian restaurant. read more

Yesterday I ordered shahi paneer and malai kofta. Both were frozen, spoiled, dry and reheated. My wife fell sick and luckily my 3 year old son didn't eat otherwise if he also fell sick I would have taken action legally against these people. I ordered before and got decent food. Finally tried this place today and I absolutely loved it. The restaurant is located in a plaza across from town centre, right beside subway. We did take out and got: aloo (potato) pratha, muli(radishes) partha, chole which is a chickpea curry and it came with two puri's. The restaurant looked clean and had decent seating, and our food was ready when we went to go pick it up. The food was really tasty but my favourite was muli partahtha with had the right amount of radishes and spices. read more

I am usually disappointed in East Indian restaurants as I am East Indian and have a mom that is an awesome cook. So not too often do the East Indian restaurants come close to good old home cooking for me. The food is rarely authentic, it been altered to meet the north American taste buds. But today we tried Paratha's at the Punjab Paratha Hut! I was so pleased, how authentic tasting these Paratha's were. Fresh, delicious and just like mom's. The Aloo paratha is a must and my second favorite (moli - white radish). The sweet Lassi that complimented the paratha's was also delicious. The service was friendly and fast. So if you are on Edmonton's south side it's just off of 66 street near the Tawa Centre, I recommend stopping in for a Paratha! read more

Newish to Edmonton, always on the lookout for excellent well priced Indian food. The Punjab (pure veg) fits this criteria very nicely.
