I've been in Leduc for a while and still hadn't checked out India Grill & Bistro. Well, today that changed (obviously you can see this review).
Since restaurants aren't open for in room dining yet (as of my review) I ordered online and for pick up. I like that you can order and not have to enter your credit card information beforehand. I ordered a veggie pakora for an appetizer, baingan bharta for a main (a veggie dish with minced eggplant, tomatoes, and spices) a side order of papadum. You can add other side dishes like naan or rice, as well as drinks and dessert. They also have you specify your spice level. I went with medium. When I little I used to think ground black pepper was spicy, but I definitely have a higher spice tolerance now. However, I tend to stick to medium spice just to be safe (a.k.a not give me much heartburn). My confirmation said the order would be ready in 30 minutes.
India Grill & Bistro is on 50th Ave, but the entrance for the building is in the back. You can't park on the street, but there is parking at the back of the building. Easiest way is to turn in the Pizza 73 and turn right to the back alley, and you'll see the entrance and parking for India Grill & Bistro. It was raining so I left my glasses in my vehicle and went in with my phone and wallet (and mask on of course).
The restaurant looked nice (from my blurred vision) and had a few tables and booths, bit larger than I thought. Of course those were blocked off. A couple people were ahead of me, but it didn't take long for me to get to the counter. My order came to about $26 with tax add tip. About a minute later the lady working came out and said they'd run out of the veggie pakora and asked if I wanted to sub out something else. These things happen, and I've work in hospitality and restaurants before so I wasn't going to freak out or anything like that. I also remembered they have garlic naan (which I love) so I said they could put that on instead. The lad asked if I wanted something else from the appetizer menu. I tried looking but was pretty blind from not having my glasses, so she suggested spring rolls and I said sure. You can't go wrong with spring rolls.
My order took a few extra minutes, but didn't take too long. The lady gave me the order and thanked me for coming in. When I got home I took the food out. The portions were really generous. I got about 4 papadums with a green chutney, and the baingan bharta was a pretty generous portion (enough I can have some for lunch tomorrow). The garlic naan was massive (cut in half), and those spring rolls; they gave me 8 with a sweet chili sauce. I was expecting maybe 2 or 3 spring rolls at most (since I'd also gotten the garlic naan). I don't know if that's just the regular spring roll portions you get or if I got extra. Either way it was appreciated.
The spring rolls were delicious. The papadums were good (I love those but I hardly have them when I have Indian food) and the green chutney was nice and refreshing. The garlic naan was super garlicky in the best way possible (no vampires are getting near me). The baingan bharta was a dish I'd never tried but I felt like doing something vegetarian for dinner, and it sounded good. I also wanted to stay away from dishes with cream or dairy (thanks lactose intolerance) and this was a great option. The medium spice level was perfect for me, but if you're more of a spice connoisseur than me you could probably move up to the high spice level. Either way I had a nice dinner (and lunch for tomorrow) for a decent price. I'll be happy to come back to India Grill & Bistro again soon. read more
