This place is awesome! I was in town for a work trip and everyone I talked to recommended Xolo for dinner. They did not disappoint. Walking in, this place has a very cool lounge type of vibe. Not a ton of tables, but it felt very comfortable and inviting. My colleague and I sat at the bar and were quickly greeted by the bartender, who was amazing. She recommended the Xolo Margarita to get started and it was delicious. For dinner, I ordered Elote (Mexican street corn), 1 Birria taco, 1 Al Pastor taco, and 1 carne asada taco (not pictured). The Elote was creamy, salty, spicy and sweet in all the best ways. The Birria (dipping taco) was super flavorful and the consume was just right. The Al pastor taco was the perfect balance of salty and sweet, thanks to the pineapple on it. The carne asada taco was good, but probably the most plain. This place was awesome and not overpriced. I paid just under $18 for all of my food, not including the margarita. If you happen to be in Flint, you need to stop in. I will be going back for sure. read more

My friend and I were in Flint for a concert and wanted a place to eat nearby so we ended up at Xolo's. It's also decorated really nicely for the holidays! Saturday afternoon with friends. Walked in and only one other couple in the establishment. Here's what we liked: * Immediate seating- although we chose to sit at the bar. Good interaction with the bartender. Friendly, engaging and just nice. * A round of drinks, the Tequila Ild Fashion was quite good. * The queso was heavy on the green chilies and had a good flavor. What could be better- * The XOLO margarita was just ok. Just had the potential to be amazing. * The chips with the queso were incredibly salty. Wasn't a bad thing as 2 of the 3 of us liked them. The food here is very good. I especially liked the elote. That came out very quick and hot. I also ordered the Caribbean shrimp taco with some substitutions the toppings. That took a fair amount longer, but I suspect it was because they had a number of carry out orders they had to fill. When it did arrive, it was prepared correctly and hot and equally delicious! Took a little while for me to complete pay my bill, which can be troublesome if you're in a hurry like I was to get to Chicago Before serious rush-hour However, that is a small quibble. I have been taking Spanish on Duolingo for about a year now but I still haven't learned enough complimentary vocabulary to describe how amazing the food here is. I wasn't 100% sure what to expect because it was a little different than I imagined in my head. It's smaller than you would expect and situated into the first floor of what I believe is a local news station, but not 100% sure. It's cute, not overly decorated in cultural tropes you see it most Mexican restaurants, instead it is very modern and clean. I sat at the bar in some of the most comfortable bar stools I think that have ever been created. It was fantastic. But let's get to the heart of the review, the food. All I can say is wow and now regret not taking more pics. I started with the elotes and it was so well made. The flavors of the cream cheese and various herbs seeped through with every bite. For dinner I ordered the Carribean Camaron, Korean Chicken, Korean Beef Bulgogi and a birria. Yes, that is a lot of food, but you don't get a construction barrel body like mine by eating a lot of side salads. It's when you put away 3000 calories in tacos that you get that nice round look like I have. I could get into specific detail of each taco, but I'm going to avoid inundating you with 5 paragraphs of me saying O!M!G! they are so tasty and delicious and wonderful for each one. Just go here, eat here, wash it all down with a Modelo or your preferred drink of choice. You will not regret it. read more

Pretty good place for a few drinks and appetizers or a light dinner.. We've eaten here a number of times now and the food quality, service and ambiance are always solid... Their house margarita is great and I order one every time we stop in, even if I'm going to order a beer afterwards. I love their losses nachos (sans beef) and their fish tacos are very good. They have a very nice, diverse menu and they are willing to accommodate vegetarian suggestions.. Service is always good- prompt, attentive friendly. We've never had an issue with long waits for service, food or drinks. The last time we are here, our server went above and beyond and always came back to check on our table and ask how the food was, clearing appetizer dishes/bowls out of the way promptly, making certain we had drinks etc.. she was wonderful, despite having several tables to check. Prices are pretty on par with the area, nothing over the top. The ambiance is chic and modern.. The only caveat is the don't have a very large dining room, but they do have outdoor seating. read more

If you're in the mood for different tacos in the genesee county area, this is your place. We had the chance to finally try the food here and I was pleasantly surprised. It's not authentic Mexican food but it is delicious. The Mexican corn (elote) was great! It came with three small pieces and it's got a little kick. The asada tacos were good. Very cute spot Downtown Flint! Came to visit a friend and celebrate cinco de Mayo! We had the Margarita tower because there were 5 of us and it was tasty! It only came in one flavor, original, but they should totally add more! I had the birria tacos and wasn't that impressed. We stopped in here recently and had the nachos and a variety of flour tacos, including the fish taco and the vegan taco, plus a few beers and the signature XOLO margarita. Everything was really good, particularly the nachos, which were very filling and tasty. They had a very nice zest and flavor profile. In truth, they are some of the better nachos we've had lately. I liked them a lot. If you like zesty nachos, they are where it's at. The fish tacos were quite nice, very nice texture, good flavor profile, well seasoned and with fresh fish. The vegan tacos were good, not my favorite, but were pretty decent. I'd definitely get the fish tacos again in a second. The food menu is a bit limited, but interesting, sort of different departure compared to the other local latin/mexican/tex mex hot spots. The ingredients were fresh, prices were good, portions were decent (not too filling), and the presentation was very nice and well done. The beer options were good and the cocktail menu was real curated. The house XOLO margarita was quite nice. Service was a bit slow at first and it seemed like our original server was new, but we wound up with a different server who also worked as a hostess and she definitely was cheerful and knew her stuff. Food and cocktails hit the table within a decent interval. We will definitely be back and might try takeout from here in the next few days because I really crave those zesty, flavorful nachos. read more

Very disappointed in this place!! I didn't even want to give it one star!! We walked in and were not greeted, no tables were available and the empty tables were not cleaned. We ended up sitting at the bar and that was filthy as well! We sat for 5 minutes, still not acknowledged nor did the 3 wait staff even attempt to say anything to us or offer to clean up. In an area where almost everyone is serving versions of the same fried pub food, it was refreshing to have a variety of creative and interesting Mexican and caribbean flavors to enjoy. Five stars just because it breaks the mold and delivers some colorful, flavorful options. The food is really good, and the staff was upbeat and attentive. Like a lot of places downtown, there are times when it can be pretty "dead", but bring your own party and enjoy the big windows, the authentic birra and al pastor tacos, and the secret entrance to Flint's most interesting speakeasy. ;-) read more

This was our first time here and we definitely won't be back. First off, they don't have a kids menu and they don't accommodate kids. What I mean by this is that I asked for a quesadilla with only cheese on it (typical for a 3 year old) and I was charged $10. They charged me for a full adult quesadilla with all of the meats and toppings, but I only got cheese! I ordered two tacos and when I picked them up, they were so wet that both of the tortillas broke. I had to use a fork and knife, which is not what I want to do when eating a taco. First time going to this restaurant, first the staff is very courteous and nice great ambiance. However while waiting on my order I watch the bartender take fresh lemons with bare hands and put the in bottom of a glass while making a drink push them flat with her bare hands. I could have maybe under stood on the outside rim but in the drink it's self very unsanitary. I ordered the Korean taco which was given in 2 shells that were not warmed or cooked a teaspoon of filling very disappointed for $4.25 I also ordered the chicken nachos which tasted great but only had about 2 ounces of meat on the whole nacho the queso and chips were great. I really wanted Xolo to be my next favorite restaurant in the Flint area. I had the Taco al Pastor, 1/2 of a Korean Bulgogi taco, and the street corn. I ordered a Taco al Pastor for my mother and a Midwest taco for my 22 y.o. Nephew. First of all, I only had 1/2 of the Korean Bulgogi taco because the Midwest taco I purchased for my nephew was so small that I would have given it to a small child. Btw, my nephew is 6'4" and 210 lbs. So, even a decent size taco would only be a snack for him. Secondly, I tasted no Kimchi on the taco. The vegetables that were on it weren't adequately spiced. And the meat was bland and not very tender. The Taco al Pastor was a little bit better. The vegetables on it and the creama was decent. There was quite a bit of shredded pork on it. However, the pork was not adequately seasoned, leaving the meat too bland. The street corn was the only thing in my meal that tasted great. Everything else was "Meh". read more

For those giving poor reviews because of lack of a kids menu- it's more of a bar; not all restaurants are kid-friendly. For those saying it wasn't clean or you weren't greeted- we've gone tons of times and that was NEVER our experience. I have to think you caught them on a day when they were short staffed. The food here was great but there was a very long wait. We ordered chips and guacamole and waited about 30 minutes before it came out. Our food came out about 35 minutes later. In our group we tried several things on the menu, the waitress asked our thoughts. We were very polite but honest. The tacos were dry (she did bring more sauce), there was a BBQ sauce that we thought was a bit salty but we LOVED the margaritas and chips, salsa and guacamole. Our waitress shared this information with the owner who came to our table and we said the same things. She said that they had been open since Thursday and hasn't heard one complaint and "Maybe this isn't your thing". Great bar with good food offerings, also with my personal love for tequila bars I am inclined to love it. We had maragaritas that were excellent and the nachos to start. The taco selection was good, other places in the region have larger menus but this is a smaller joint, more intimate feel so a solid reasonable menu was fitting.
