LeRoy: The chips are out of sight! Katie: Get the nacho with the good chips! Caitlin: The quesadilla was extra cheesy just how I like it! Remember - there's always room to squeeze in an extra taco!

Being from Sacramento California I am used to you having a lot of good Mexican restaurants nearby when I need my fix. I have tried many other mexican restaurants in the Flint area and have been very dissatisfied. However, Lupe's was a great find! The dining area is some what small and I did have to wait for a while for a seat for one person. The hostess was very nice and took my order while I waited for a table, so that once I got a seat my food would be ready. I asked her what she would recommend and she told me that they were known for their chips and there brown gravy. I have never heard of putting brown gravy on mexican food before but I went with her suggestions of getting a chicken enchilada with brown gravy, a side of chips and salsa, and of course being National Taco Day a hard and soft chicken taco. The chips and salsa are probably the best homemade chips and salsa I have had at a restaurant and are defiantly a must. Tacos were also good, however the chicken was a little bland so I added salsa to the tacos. Last the enchilada, I was very surprised with the combination of brown gravy and enchilada. After the first bite the dish was gone in a matter of seconds, highly recommended.

Pretty decent Mexican fare for the location. This is one of those times where I'd appreciate it if Yelp allowed for half star ratings. It would make things that much easier for places that fall halfway between different star ratings. I consider my experience at Lupe's to be a case in point. I stopped into Lupe's recently for the first time even though I've passed this place numerous times and never felt compelled to try it before. To be true, it is sort of easy to pass by it since it's a small building located near an odd hodgepodge strip mall area on the side of the road. It's pretty easy to miss, actually. Anyway, a few days ago, my husband and I decided to give Lupe's a shot since we pass by it often. First things first- the building is really tiny. Once inside, I counted only 11 tables total, half of which were tiny two person only tables off to the side. The dining room was incredibly small with little walkway. The counter and kitchen area were right up front and the kitchen window/pick up area was visible to the diners. To me, it looked like it had once been home to a small diner or deli and they converted it just slightly to create a dining area for a sit-down eatery. Every table was covered with a thick, plastic picnic-style tablecloth in either orange or green and there were faux cactus trees in the back of the restaurant. As for ambiance, it was somewhat "delightfully tacky," but fun and eclectic. Our server came over and immediately took our orders. Our waitress quickly said to us, "chips and salsa, right?" before we ordered, as they do in all Mexican restaurants. However, unlike in every other Mexican eatery around, they are not included in the price. Nope, they cost $3.25 per basket, no free refills, either. Make a note of it- if you order chips and salsa, you are going to pay $3.25 for every basket. While the menu does list a price for it, they don't go out of their way to let you know that there is an extra fee for them, which I found a tad shady, not to mention they way she just hurriedly mentioned the chips and salsa, without really asking, seemed a bit odd. When she brought it up and said it in a non-rhetorical way, we hadn't even seen a menu yet. I think the management might want to rethink that concept. It's customary to provide unlimited chips and salsa at pretty much every sit-down Mexican restaurant around and to not go out of their way to inform the customer of this particular practice seemed shady. Well, the chips and salsa arrived shortly thereafter and to be honest, they were quite good. Were they good enough to be paying an extra $3.25 per small basket without really being informed of it? I'm still debating it, but they were served hot, fresh and the salsa was definitely the homemade variety. They didn't taste like a bag of Tostitos with some jar salsa from the local grocery store thrown in, that's for certain, but I've also had good chips and salsa elsewhere that were included in the price. After perusing the menu, I ordered the cheese enchilada meal with rice and beans and my husband chose the chicken enchilada meal, also with rice and beans. Both meals arrived in a timely manner, but I noticed that my food looked exactly like my husband's, which seemed kind of odd. At least they didn't get the orders mixed up and give me his food and vice versa. My cheese enchiladas were good, the tortilla tasted homemade and I liked the gravy served on top. The rice was decent, but could have been seasoned a little more, but the texture was good. The beans were actually pretty good, but not exactly noteworthy. My husband really enjoyed his chicken enchilada. He said the chicken tasted moist and was seasoned well. He must've liked it because he left behind no leftovers to wrap up to go, although I did. He also liked the rice, too, but thought it could've used a bit more pepper or something to spice it up. As for the service, it was prompt and friendly, but I did need to flag our waitress down to get a to-go box for myself even though she could probably see that I needed one when we were paying the bill. I do have to point out one thing that kind of bothered me about the place. When we walked in, there was a table by the front door covered in dirty dishes, glasses and utensils. The occupants had obviously already vacated the table, but no one ever bothered to clean that table up during our entire visit. It was dirty when we walked in and it was still dirty when we left an hour later. That was ridiculous. I almost felt compelled to go clean it up myself because it was annoying me so much. Other tables came and went and were bused, but not this one. I have no idea why. Overall, I'd say it's between 3 and 4 stars, but I'm feeling generous, which means I'll give it a 4 even though there are things about this place for which I didn't care. I think it's probably best utilized as a carryout spot rather than a sit-down restaurant.

Just not good. No flavor, over priced. Red flag, not one Mexican flag or Mexican music playing. This is not Mexican food.

Best golden tacos in town, Chips are to die for, and the prices are great. There is a reason every time I go there it is crowded.

They had a list of solid options, but we landed on Puerto Vallarta... and wow, what a call. From the moment we walked in, it just clicked. Even though there was about an hour and a half left before closing, they treated us like we had all the time in the world. The place had that perfect buzz--busy, lively, clearly loved by locals--but still warm and welcoming. For a Tuesday night, it was packed, which is always a good sign. Turns out, there's a reason for that. Then we opened the menu... and it all made sense. The selection is incredible. So many options that actually make you pause (in the best way) because everything sounds worth trying. It's not just variety for the sake of it--it's the kind that makes you want to come back again and again just to work your way through it. What really made the night, though, was the whole experience. Great food, great energy, and getting to share it with family on our first night in town--it set the tone perfectly. This wasn't just a meal; it was the kind of start to a trip you hope for but don't always get. Safe to say, we didn't just enjoy Puerto Vallarta--we fell for it a little. And we'll absolutely be back.

Our server checked in often and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was much better than I expected. My friend ordered the chicken fajitas, which arrived sizzling with a good balance of meat and vegetables and plenty of flavor. I had the chimichangas. They were two smaller, hand rolled fried shells filled with exceptionally well seasoned ground beef. There was a layer of queso underneath and a little sauce on top, which brought everything together. They were delicious. The beans and rice were standard sides. Not standout items, but not bad either. The chips seemed store bought, and the salsa was fresh but mild with very little heat. Overall, I would definitely go back. The ground beef was excellent, and I'm especially curious to try their tacos since flavorful meat is often where other places fall short. We spent about $20 each with drink.

Home-style Mexican food!…read more This is good, authentic Mexican food, made with love and infused with a little bit of flair. It's so nice to have good Mexican food at the Flint Farmer's Market. Their chips are homemade and the salsa is awesome. Vegetarian loaded nachos are ridiculously good, made to order, with super fresh ingredients. Whichever veggies you want on your nachos, you'll get and whichever ones you don't want, they'll leave off for you. The tortilla chips are a bit greasy, but not overly so. It's not like you'll double over in GI distress afterwards! Besides, I like my chips a little oily, with just the right amount of salt. These aren't of the dry and flat ilk, but have a little zest to them instead. They also sell my husband's favorite line of seltzer water, which he can't find anywhere else around town, so that's a big plus in my book. He's always going on about that specific type of seltzer water, so even if I'm not stopping in for food, I still need to grab some of that seltzer water just to appease him. The price is right, too, with two people easily dining together for just $10. There's also a small line of grocery items, featuring rices, seasonings, spices, tortilla chips, salsa, and more available as well, with decent prices on most everything.
