Presentation was great, they have a very nice selection of food. Server was very sweet and accommodating. My sister and I ordered Beef Enchilada plates, they came with beans and rice. As well as some QuesaBirria tacos. Our palates are accustomed to California mexican food. To say the least it is not what we are accustomed to. The consume lacked a lot of flavor, I tasted no oregano, basil spice or garlic. Same for the enchilada sauce I couldn't taste signature spices like cumin or chili powder. It was edible, the salsa was decent. I can tell the food probably isn't made fresh daily, rice seemed a little drier than fluffy, as if it had been dried and reheated. I think it can be improved with incorporating spices. The enchiladas just tasted like they were dipped in grease and broth. It's always nice to have YELP suggest a new place when visiting a new town. In this case we were looking for a nice spot for lunch and YELP suggested Soriano's since we love Mexican food. We were extremely pleased when our food arrived. This isn't your typical "corporate American" Mexican food. Even many small locally-owned Mexican restaurants seem to have adopted the "Chi Chi's style" of bland and undistinguished Mexican food. Not Soriano's I'm pleased to report. My Chili Rellenos with chicken were outstanding and my partner's simple chicken Burrito was equally excellent. The sauces were refreshingly authentic (we do travel in the Southwest US quite a bit so this is based on actual experience.) A few people commented on the charge for chips and salsa which is somewhat unusual. However, the menu prices are so reasonable that to "ding" a review due to the charge for chips seems misplaced in my opinion. The service was very friendly and the food arrived quickly (this was a lunch service.) When I complimented the manger (perhaps the owner) she comp'ed us an order of delightful flour tortillas which made my Rellenos even better. This is a "hole in the wall" kind of place with some quaint touches to emphasize its Mexican heritage. The place was very clean and I had zero concerns about food sanitation. There is ample parking in adjacent lots so access even in this downtown location isn't an issue. My only regret is that we don't have a Soriano's in our home town of Ann Arbor. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area! I kept hearing good things from my Latinx classmates about this place, and many are accustomed to Californian Mexican food too. As someone who lived in densely populated Latinx neighborhoods in the past 8 years in California, I was missing some Mexican food, and I particularly like it super spicy. I came here and decided to get beef birria tacos with pico de gallo and guacamole. It definitely hit the spot! This was my first time trying birria tacos, so I don't have another experience to compare to, but it was definitely everything I was craving. The taco meat itself were seasoned very flavorfully. My usual go-to are al pastor tacos, so I'm going to have to try that next time. After getting a late start to the day with the poor weather, John and I were pretty hungry by the time we got up here for the day. We had a slow drive up I-75 from the snow and were ready to eat before we went to the museums and hotel. I found this place that was close the expressway, not to far from the museums and easy to locate. Pulling in, the parking's in the rear and kind of tight. We walked to the front and walked into this really cool Mexican restaurant. Very colorful, not busy at all and the menu has tons of food to choose from! Our server was pretty cool and did a really good job with making sure we were taken care of. I went with the two tacos and John got the Mexican dinner. While the tacos were absolutely fabulous, the rice and beans were something to be desired. I wasn't overly impressed. They were kind of runny and not that great. John loved his, so I guess it evened out. The rice was good but kind of bland. It was good, don't get me wrong, but not very flavorful. This place is legit and we both had a really good time here. I use to really love this place. Been coming for years even before I moved away. I went there tonight and I was severely disappointed. Apparently, now they charge you $5 for chips and salsa, which always use to be free. Also, I had to ask for water multiple times. My food came out before I got water. I also had to wait for the silverware when my food came out. Service use to be exceptional, I don't know what happened. Also, they now charge you a fee if you use a card instead of cash. Sorianos was OK for Mexican food in Flint, MI. I had the enchiladas and I think that my father did as well? The chips were perfect and salty. The service was slow and I had to ask to receive the complimentary chips and salsa, but the worker seemed somewhat new. My margarita was weak and nothing special. It seemed that a homeless man was attempting to charge his phone in the establishment while sitting at a table and not eating, left the restaurant, realized he forgot his phone and came back to pick it up. It made me feel a little uncomfortable that the establishment would allow for this behavior. All in all, there's better Mexican joints nearby, and I probably wouldn't go back. Decided to give them a try while staying in Downtown Flint and I'm glad I did. My Diablo shrimp was spicy and delicious. The people there couldn't be nicer. They were running a bit behind because all of the takeout orders and they apologized several times for it. Found this place on yelp as we were driving through town... great food, like really good! Authentic! Super good flavors and really great service. Our waitress was bubbly and friendly and prompt! This business is in a good location for downtown Flint. It at one time was a good value with middle of the road service. But lately I have been charged extra for items with the reasoning being I wasn't specific enough, or they flat out chose not to tell me about extra charges for items that used to be complimentary. To be more specific during lunch hours I was charged for a dinner portion. Which I had never had to specify before considering I was there during peak service hours for lunch. But now you will be charged for chips and salsa with no warning to you as the customer. I could understand if the charge was $2, but they charge $5 for chips and salsa. Literally every other Mexican restaurant offers these as complimentary for dine in guests. I inquired with my server about the charge and asked why I was charged. Her response was that they had started doing this in the past month. I asked her why she didn't tell me that I was going to be charged, and she just shrugged and said "I don't know, but sorry I guess". There were no signs, or cards at the table telling customers of the new charge. To top it off I wasn't given a bag or togo box to take the most expensive corn chips I've ever ate home with me. Their food is very middle of the road and bland. For a better Mexican dining experience I'd highly recommend La Familia, La Azteca or El Cozumel. They are all at least clear with their customers on pricing and have flavourful food. read more

For Mexican fare in the area, it's not too shabby. I tried Soriano's shortly after they opened. I fully expected them to have a lot of hiccups concerning both food and service because, well, they'd only been open a few days, but I thought everything ran pretty smoothly. You could say that I was impressed. Soriano's opened this summer in the former location of both El Potrero (the downtown location was shuttered earlier this summer) and the Bailiwick Pub (which closed several years ago) on Saginaw Street. I was saddened to see El Potrero vacate the property, but was willing to give this new Mexican eatery a shot. I'm glad that I did. Overall, some of the touches of the former El Potrero still lingered, but the colorfully painted booths and chairs were gone, but some new art adorned the walls and entryway, plus there is a little gift shop located near the front register. The decor was bright and cheery, but tasteful. As for the food, it was solid. I had the fajitas and they were delicious. Once I bit into them, I found an impressive variety of sauteed vegetables, nicely seasoned, too, including broccoli and carrots, etc. They were clearly fresh, not frozen and they were plentiful. Truthfully, it was one of the better fajitas I've had in awhile. The accompanying Mexican rice and beans were pretty decent and not as bland as most are in the area. The texture had a pretty decent texture to it. At least it wasn't sticky or dry. I really hate sticky/dry rice. It definitely had not been sitting around in the kitchen for awhile. I'd probably classify my fajitas as more "rustic Mexican" and I rather liked them. Chips and salsa hit the table as soon as I sat down. The chips were good, slightly salty and freshly baked. The salsa was quite decent. I don't expect super authentic or overly spicy food at any Mexican restaurant in the Midwest because- NEWSFLASH- we aren't in Mexico or even in a border town in the southwest. Get over it, people. This is Mid Michigan, after all. The salsa and spices in the fajitas and the salsa both had a little extra heat to them than most comparable Mexican eateries in the county, but it definitely wasn't too hot, in my opinion. I thought they each had a little extra "kick" and I liked it. The salsa was a little chunky, not thin and watery. I hate bland and boring and it was neither bland nor boring. As for calling it super authentic, well, I've been to Mexico a few times now and have eaten the real thing, and trust me, that stuff is hot. This is not super authentic, but it's actually pretty tasty Mexican cuisine. If you think this is too spicy, all I can say is, I don't really know what you would do if you were to actually go to Mexico then. Starve? Eat fried ice cream all day long? I don't know. The service was pretty decent despite the restaurant's very recent launch. My husband's food came out to the table first, which I was little annoyed with initially, but then mine hit the table within a minute of his. Ideally, everyone's food ought to come out of the kitchen at the same time (and there were only two plates between us), but I understand that that was a small thing and perhaps the plates were too hot to handle all at once. Food came to the table after about 20 minutes, which was pretty much what I expected. Our server constantly refilled our bowls of chips and salsa without question. I thought the food prices were reasonable. Most of the dinner entrees were between $9-$11, so it was on par with other Mexican eateries and it was a bit more affordable than most other places downtown. I will say this, though. The menu was pretty large and had a lot of lunch/dinner offerings, dessert, etc., but I didn't notice a specific area denoting vegetarian options. I was slightly disappointed in that because I often use that as a shortcut on menus at other Mexican restaurants, so I would have been happy to see it here as well, but alas, they don't do that. Again, I thought it would have been nice, but it wasn't a problem. I don't mind reading the entire menu, it's just a nice shortcut that I've actually come to appreciate when I find it. The soda fountain wasn't up and running that day (it was due to be functional within a day or two), but that wasn't a big deal since they just opened. They did have a fully fleshed out bar with premium liquors and nice margarita specials, though. I will definitely try this one again and maybe even get dessert next time (too full from dinner and drinks this time)! read more

Tried Soriano's the first time this weekend. Since it just opened, I went in with no real expectations, other than assuming they might have a couple of minor service-related problems to sort out. Well, I could not have been more pleased with my meal here. Immediately after we were seated, fresh chips and salsa arrived. The chips tasted pretty fresh and were warm, too. The salsa was also fresh and a tad on the spicier side, but I prefer it that way. I ordered a chicken taco salad, which was excellent. To begin with, the bowl was huge. It was a considerable portion size for the price. It was, like the salsa, on the spicier side, which is precisely what you want when it comes to Mexican food. It was tasty, savory, and well-seasoned. The chicken was cooked perfectly and there were several tender pieces of it on my taco salad. I ate every last bite! My wife ordered the vegetarian fajitas, which she liked immensely. She took home the leftovers. Again, the portion was large for the price. I tried a bite of her food and it was as good as she said. The fajitas were filled with fresh, tender veggies and were actually well seasoned. Service was pretty good, no real hitches to complain about. This restaurant just opened so I will surely give it another try. Tuesday 11:30 lunch takeout took only 10 minutes. Call taker was not familiar with the menu & had to keep asking other staffers questions (like could I order a chicken chimi?) Chips & salsa: fine. Beans: tasteless, but do they usually have all that much flavor? Rice looked like it had gone through a blender to make it the most minute in size, and no flavor. Chimichanga was soggy. Chicken had zero seasoning & thats all there was. No lettuce. No tomoato. No anything else. It was drizzled with some red sauce which helped combat the dryness but didnt really make it much better. Pros: -Good flavor to most food -Downtown location Cons: -All meat we had was over cooked and/or rubbery. -We were over charged and they argued with us about it. -Waitress was unfamiliar with the menu and couldn't answer any of our questions. -Some foods were much much hotter than expected and should have had a special designation of hit on the menu. I love spicy, but wasn't expecting at that intensity level in the dishes I ordered. Coming from Bakersfield, California, I know good Mexican food. To be quite honest (west coast brutally honest without the Midwest pleasantries), the Mexican food out here is terrible. Some of these places might look what Michiganders think a Mexican restaurant should look like but what is served on the plate is nothing more than a tortilla filled with disappointment. News flash: Burritos should not have gravy on them nor served with a side of mashed and gravy! I have finally found my taste of home! I was skeptical of Soriano's but they passed the test 100%. First, I grilled them over the food and whether it was "real". They responded with a story of where they were from and that they were multi-generational in the business. Both brother and sister knew from my line of questioning that I was not a Michigan native and knew my Mexican food. Next, the lady tried to hand me a menu. I said that was not needed and that if they didn't have what I wanted I'd go elsewhere. I asked for "Un carne asada burrito, con todo, no p****e arroz!". Unlike the other places out here, they actually knew what I saying. The burrito was excellent. The carne asada was just right, not rubbery or gristle. The cheesy red sauce was tasty and fresh and the refritos were fresh and neither watery nor crumbly. The comments that "this the Midwest and the food out here is bland so get over it" doesn't work for me. There's no excuse for bland, fake, Mexican food. Fortunately, I now have Soriano's. In fact, I'll be heading out the door to pick up a couple more burritos as soon as I finish typing. read more
