Prior to signing the multi year contract, they were incredibly responsive and professional. Went…read moreabove and beyond. Really made a positive impression. Immediately after signing the contract (and I mean literally, *immediately* after) there was a dramatic switch. We were locked in and they knew it. Caveat emptor. The three years of coverage was periodically marked by technical issues that were a pain to coordinate and resolve. Our outdoor storage shed got burgled a couple of times and interacting with True Protection I just remember having the sense that they did not GAF, to be blunt. The alarm system, and monitoring was a nuisance and source of stress. You will be better served with a DIY solution from Best Buy that does not rely on locking yourself in to these contracts. It is incredibly rare for me to bother giving a negative review. I try to review small businesses I interact with who do great work. When I saw the email soliciting reviews in my inbox, I was kinda shocked. Looking at all the glowing reviews, I found myself agreeing with another reviewer who thought this was deluged with friends and family pumping the numbers. It's just hard for me to imagine a company that consistently delivered such a poor customer experience for multiple years could have these glowing reviews. I I will say it again: prior to signing the contract they are amazing. After you sign it is all downhill. Beware.

ADT is now pushing its ADT plus platform which is nothing more than subpar DIY equipment which is…read moreeasily disabled and bypassed. I was previously an incredibly satisfied customer and had referred ADT to friends. I had reached out to ADT to have the same system I liked installed at my new place. A young installer showed up 3 hours late and insisted he could do the install in 3 hours. 8 hours later and close to midnight he puts a new contract in front of us and explains he's installed ADT plus. And it's the latest technology and all that is available from ADT now. He has his supervisor email us the we have 40 days to exchange it. Skipping through 6 months of phone calls with ADT and finding out that we were lied to, the ADT plus folks said they can see in our file that we were told we could exchange for the ADT system we had initially requested but they will not be honoring that or letting us out of our contract. We were told we can purchase a second system in addition to ADT plus, but we will not be seeing any credit. Also as an update, the equipment (costing over $4k) has failed within a year. Bottom line is that the average person has no recourse and ADT can act egregiously without consequence. Also ADT had a massive data breach last month and I have yet to receive a notice from them that our personal data was accessed and is now on the dark web. I've been receiving various alerts from other monitoring sources we have. Finally, in addition to the hundreds of one stars here, check out the ~11,000 better business bureau complaints. So if this is the quality of protection you are seeking - paying top dollar for a complete failure in performance by a company which admits that it has misrepresented its policies and products to you and then has allowed your personal information to be stolen - you have found the right "security" company.

This company is truly the scum of the earth…read more We moved into a house where the previous owners already had ADT equipment, so we thought, hey, why don't we just call and open an account so we can use the system that's already here? Seems simple enough. I called and activated the service. The guy on the phone told me we were paying month to month and could cancel whenever we wanted. At NO point did he tell me I was being locked into a 2 year contract. And because the only way to activate and open the account was over the phone, I had nowhere to check this information in writing. Our system had multiple errors that made it impossible to arm. We had multiple "virtual appointments" with techs, changed all the batteries, spent hours following troubleshooting instructions, and nothing worked. After having the system for about a month and never actually being able to use it, I said, you know what, let's just cancel this dumbass service. It is impossible to get in touch with anyone at this company. They just keep booking you for virtual service appointments and passing you off to different departments. So I called to cancel my account and, just like every other call, it took over an hour to get anything accomplished. The man on the phone canceled my account. He did not ONCE mention that there would be ANY charges associated with canceling. Not once during the entire hour plus phone call. A few days later, I get hit with a $727 bill. I call them, get passed around to multiple people, spend another hour on the phone, and finally an "account manager" tells me, well, sorry no one told you, but you're being charged for the next 2 years because that's how long you signed up for. Except I was NEVER told I was signing a 2 year contract. She said the only thing she could do was reinstate our account so we wouldn't have to pay the $727 immediately. She wouldn't make an exception, even though we had only had the system for a month and literally had never been able to use it. We finally scheduled an actual tech to come out after she tried to book me for yet another pointless virtual appointment. The tech came and fixed the issue in about 5 minutes. After we had spent HOURS troubleshooting with their virtual techs. He wasn't nice at all, but at least he fixed the problem. But alas, the $727 bill is STILL on our account. Now I need to call AGAIN and spend another 1.5+ hours trying to get someone to remove a bill that I was never told about in the first place. Trying to get in contact with this company is like pulling teeth. The entire experience has been absolutely ridiculous from start to finish. I genuinely feel like ADT is operating a giant scam. They make it impossible to get help, impossible to cancel, don't clearly communicate their contract terms, and then suddenly hit you with a $727 bill after you cancel. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Save yourself the absolute nightmare and go literally anywhere else.

EDIT-adding 1 star: After posting my review on YELP, Google, FB and filing the complaint with the…read moreBBB, a supervisor from Guardian reached out to me to reactivate our account so they could connect to our Hub remotely and remove all the Zwave Devices. The process took 6 minutes. I wish I didn't have to go to the extreme of filing these reviews/complaints after spending 2.5+ hours trying to reach this resolution but can say that it is now resolved. Original Review: We purchased a home from DR Horton in 2019 and at that time, they were partnered with Guardian Protection for their Smart Home Features. After we moved into our home, a Guardian Tech came to our house to set up the "Smart Hub" and use of the Alarm.com app to control all our our Smart Devices. Of course they gave us their sales pitch for additional security/monitoring services they offer which we declined. We didn't sign anything with Guardian and at that time, there was no mention that we would be in a 3 year trial period for use of the Alarm.com app to control the Smart ZWave devices that we now OWNED. They did not mention anything in regards to the end of that 3 year trial, we would no longer have access to these ZWAVE devices to function as they are designed because they would be locked by the Guardian HUB. Additionally, we weren't given any sort of notice that our "courtesy trial period" for the Alarm.com APP was due to expire to go over options etc. We only figured out that we were no longer in our trial when we couldn't access the alarm.com app to control our ZWAVE smart devices any more. At that point, I called Guardian to find out what was going on and after spending over 2.5 hours on different occasions, they refuse to send a technician out at no charge to disconnect our zwave devices that are our personal property. The only way that they will help is to charge me 120.00 for the 1st half hour and an additional charge for every 15 minutes thereafter. Had we known that we would not be able to gain access to the devices we own after this "courtesy trial period" we would have never agreed to allow them to connect them to their useless hub. DR Horton is no longer partnered with Guardian and now uses SafeHaven and ADT who was far more helpful than Guardian at trying to help me resolve this and would not have charged a single dime to disconnect our personal devices from their hub if our hub was theirs. Wouldn't ever recommend Guardian or any of the services to anyone. Terrible customer service.

Guardian said all they can do is put in a request for a tech to call us to schedule an appointment since the people who installed our equipment were contracted out. We were told to remove the detector ourselves and turn off the sound setting. We are currently looking into getting out of our contract since they are in violation of their service agreements and are looking into reporting to the better business bureau. We do not recommend the company. The service tech who installed our equipment stopped taking our calls the moment they finished installation and Guardian says there is nothing the can do.
