They have SO many options and categories of everything that I end up spending hours just seeing what's new. The employees are all very knowledgeable about the products and specifications. Just walking through the store is an inspiration whether it's gaming, networking, security or computers and accessories. The prices can sometimes be a little pricey but mostly competitive and high in quality. It's a great profession level option to Best Buy and other electronics places. read more

Altex has been a mainstay for my family for a long time. Whenever my father needed something, Altex was right there. When I needed a motherboard, power supply, you name it... Altex was reliable. I went in yesterday and saw that they were very competitive, price wise, with Amazon and Best Buy. They also had much more in stock as far as well, everything, was concerned than the same aisles at my local Best Buy. It seems like Altex is really modernizing and putting their gaming gear front and center - this gave me pause. Here was a company keeping up with the times and remaining competitive. What a lifesaver! After trying to set up my Oculus, I realized I'd need a Displayport cable. Walmart was no use (it was 11pm). Best Buy didn't carry it (HDMI Masterrace) and no one offered to help me. But freakin' Altex man. They're website let me see store selection (awesome). And then I walked in the store having never been in before. 10 seconds of looking at signs and I found the video cable aisle. Within seconds I had what I needed and I was in line to check out. And even though they have a monopoly on Displayport options in San Antonio, they don't gouge you with pricing. I paid equal to what I would on Amazon for a 6-foot cable ($15 out the door) and I didn't have to wait for shipping. I don't know why I didn't try Altex sooner. I wish I had. read more

Would have been a five star rating for my time there, however upon getting my computer back home from repair (they replaced a motherboard for me and installed a new SSD) I now notice my disk reader is not responsive at all no matter what I do which of course was working fine before I took it in and I imagine they would have had to used it. I paid a lot of money for my initial repairs just to have them overlook, or worse, break something that I'll need to now figure out myself as it's not worth going all the way back for. read more

Pros: This is like a giant radio shack for computer parts and accessories. Convenient if you need a part ASAP, like your life depended upon it. I enjoyed browsing here and killing time when I have to get out of the house. The store is fairly empty of other shoppers, but they do have just about everything for your computer. Parking is never a problem. Lots of spaces. Cons: The prices are a little on the high side. There are other cheaper options for many things, such as Amazon. And if you can wait the 7-10 days for shipping, then that's more $$ in your pockets. The cashiers have always greeted me when I am checking out, but nobody in all the many times I've been here, has asked me if I needed help looking for something or otherwise. They send me to the voicemail someone who won't be in until Monday???!?!?!?? I'd just cancel the order and go to Best Buy,....but they won't even cancel the order. Up until this recent purchase that I had which was a motherboard the box was a little banged up and then I looked at it and they opened it for me it was already open mind you so with the plastic on the inside the electrostatic plastic was open but I wish I was there with my dad and he was he didn't know what he was doing so the guy is kind of covered up the edges of the the motherboard plate and take a look at the pins they're good they're good cuz I said look it's an open box it's for a 6th generation processor it was the last one they had it was open and they couldn't give me a better deal on it it's been used cuz when I opened it and I looked under the processor thing before I installed it had thermal paste already on it I have never ever been by any business ever like that and it's the last time I will ever shop shoppedthere and I've been shopping there for about 20 years read more

I went looking for a shell for my old hard drive, convert it to an external. Asked one of the guys at the counter, if I had the right part - nope! Thomas was his name. So he goes and grabs the correct part, opens the package, mounts my hard drive, and then tests it on a computer to ensure it works. They have just about everything you could possibly need for computers and networking. It's like home depot for computers. Most of the time I've been here, they have been very helpful. Even when I don't know exactly what I need, they help me find it. For example when I needed to get some memory for my Mac, they were able to help get the right type. And for a much more affordable price than going through Apple! Recently I went to get something to connect my Mac to a projector, and I had a Nick burns the company computer guy experience where the dude basically said he didn't want to spend a few minutes to help me find the right adaptor because I didn't have the serial number and he didn't want to spend "half an hour" to help me find the thing and blah blah. Well it turns out Macs only use two types of cords, I figured this out after spending about two minutes on google. And it took me about one more minute to find out which of the two I needed. Even after I asked the dude to look it up on the internets for me at the store, he pretty much decided he had something better to do that afternoon like...plan for his WoW raid or something. So okay fine maybe they dont know Macs as well but I guess that's what the "genius bar" is for right? WRONG. It depends what you want from them. If you want parts, they can do that. If you want them to build you a computer, schedule a month for them not returning calls or emails, making mistakes on your order, not being able to find your order, etc... Very nice young people working there, but there is literally no management. None. They couldn't find my payment of over $2,000 for a computer. They couldn't figure out their own computer software. I have had Altex build my personal gaming pc for over 10 years. Only two builds and some upgrades in that time. They do excellent work and a great combined knowledge base. If you pick out the parts for a pc they will put it together and test it with consistent great results. My only complaint is that their internet computers are not all available for them to customize locally. Also since they have installation built into parts pricing they can seem higher than internet doityourself prices, you're paying for expert and warranty installation. I think it worth it. read more

I took my PC in to these folks twice to get the malware and viruses removed. After the 2nd visit the tech told me there was nothing else they could do and suggested I wipe the hard drive, reinstall the OS and and replace the software currently on my PC. This would have been very expensive. I called to talk to the manager 3 times but only got the asst managers, never heard from the boss. I subsequently took my computer to the PC Doctor on RedLand Rd. These techs worked hard to get my PC back to running correctly. It took 3 return trips to fix it but they eventually got the job done without charging more than the initial fee. I won't be taking my business back to Altex, apparently they don't care about customer satisfaction. read more

Great store! I have been back several times to buy various things and they have always been helpful and I always end up buying something that I hadn't seen at one of the usual electronics stores. I bought 2 different wireless routers from other places, then the guys at Altex listened to my issues and sold me a router that fixed all my issues. Purchased a radiator and 6 compression fitting from them and they shipped it to the wrong address first, then when i finally got the package it was missing all the compression fittings. When I called support to have this fixed on Friday they said they wouldnt even LOOK at the issue till tuesday. Please DO NOT let them take your money!!! Took my lap-top in to have the cd drive replaced and antivirus installed. Me and the tech started the computer, went through the start up process and I explain what was wrong. One week later I received a call saying the computer was ready. I went pick up the computer and the employe said it was no longer running after the tech worked on it and nothing was replaced. Worst experience I've ever had with a business. They kept ordering the wrong parts, they then escalated the situation to a new motherboard and then created new problems I never had before. Now they blame the screen which was never a problem before. They're either missing something or messed something up and now covering their tracks. I'm now out $552 and nothing to show for it.
