We did the Dr. Gene Etics room on Aug 1, 2025. LOVED this room! Such a great design with some really novel effects. Puzzles were difficult, but doable. Overall, a really challenging but exceptionally fun room. One of the best I've done in DFW. This location is really the grandfather of DFW escape experiences. Don't let the location or look of the building fool you - they really do a great job with their three (soon to be four) rooms. Also, the pricing is one of the better deals in DFW. Just can't praise the design and overall set production enough. The staff and owners are first-rate, friendly, and just love escape rooms. One of them even wrote a book on escape room design (which we bought)! We'll be back for the third room (already did Captain Skully) and, once complete, the fourth room. read more

This place is AMAZING and a GO TO for family fun. I went today for the first escape room of my life and hours later, I am still thinking about it. First of all, since we are in COVID times, they do private rooms that are thoroughly disinfected. We were allowed to unmask with our private group while we were in the room. We loved that. We (3 of us) did the Dr. Gene Etics room and completed it with one minute to spare. It was invigorating! Let me out, Let me out!!! We had a blast trying to escape the "Game Over" room, although we were unsuccessful it was a lot of fun. We had 10 people in our group and at the beginning seemed like we were not going to figure this thing out but we finally started to work together and figure it out. One of the girls that was with us is closterphobic but she didnt seem to be bothered by the room and was a great help...just in case anyone else was having second thoughts about that. We took a group picture at the end that was soon uploaded to facebook....great memories! One of the employees came in at the beginning and kinda explained on how things would go and they do give 3 clues throughout your hour time limit if you absolutely want it. The employee also explained the newest "Pirate Ship" room that is multiple stories that we should look into next time we come. I absolutely look forward to doing this again for my birthday or just an outing with friends. It is a good way to get people to work together in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. I really liked this place. We (2 people) had never done one before but did Captain Scully. Luckily some of the people who went in with us had been to a bunch across DFW and this place is their favorite they said. They're from Arlington and said they've been across the metroplex. They're the only reason we were able to get it open/complete the room so you could tell they had been to a lot. Regardless it was a great first experience, I'll be back! Also, it's a family run business and the creator of the room was super cool and talked to us beforehand. Tip- remember you have your 3 clues if needed. Kind of a dump. Was taken there as a birthday surprise. There were 5 of us in the group. Three of the group had done at least one of these before and two of them kinda took over, leaving me with nothing to do. Everybody was doing completely different things and weren't really getting anywhere. After a bit, I just sat down and didn't do anything else. IMHO there should not be more than 2 people in a group to play. Will never do one again. Maybe this is not relevant, but as I said this was a surprise and I had already had plans to do something else at the exact time and had to blow it off at the last minute to wqste my time with this. Having now done over 50 escape rooms, I've got to say Xcape Adventures is still one of my faves. We've done Game Over and Steampunk (both now closed), and Captain Skully and Dr Gene Etics. Though Steampunk is still my fave, we really liked Dr Gene too. What I love about this place is there is ALWAYS a fun surprise. When you do a lot of escape rooms, you start to see the same mechanics over and over, but there's still always something unexpected in each of their rooms. Looking forward to finishing off the last 2 rooms, and hoping they have more room ideas in the works. read more

I took my nieces (14 and 15yo) who are visiting from Oklahoma. They've been to a couple of escape rooms (so have I), and we enjoyed those... But *this* place far surpassed our expectations and is on an entirely different level. The rooms are super engaging, filled with surprises, and unique puzzles. It's locally owned and the couple that runs the place clearly puts a lot of time and care into the puzzles and overall experience. This was my first escape room experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The place itself can be easy to miss. We chose the room based on the movie Pixels, which is actually designed for 7 people. Definitely a great group bonding exercise. You're entitled to three clues throughout the game at any time, so be smart with that! The staff members were extremely helpful with explaining the objective of the game and for helping us out when need be. The development of the plot in the room is definitely a little on the cheesy side, but I thought it was pretty cute. Definitely helps you get into character of the game and makes you feel a lot more involved. Overall, a pretty cool first experience. Would definitely do it again now that I got a little more of an experience from it. read more

Xcape Adventures delivers arguably the best overall experience of any escape room I've visited. If you're looking to do an escape room around Dallas I highly recommend you do it at Xcape. My cousin and I were visiting Dallas and I wanted to introduce her to escape rooms while we were there. I've done about 15 escape rooms, but I wanted her to have a great first experience. Xcape Adventures delivered and then some. The first room we did was Dr. Gene Etics, which had a fantastic, fun storyline and very well thought out puzzles. We did the room with 5 strangers who'd also never done a room and we escaped with about 2 minutes left. The rooms are set up in such a way that everyone can get involved no matter their age or skill level. My cousin loved the experience so much we came back the next day and did Captain Skully with just the 2 of us. We had a slow start but we managed to escape with a few minutes left. Skully had some of my favorite set design and puzzles that I've ever come across. Next time I'm in DFW I will definitely be visiting Xcape again. read more

At first we had no clue how to start, but the more we explored the room the more it made sense. We did the 2nd hardest room they had and it was definitely challenging. We were unsuccessful in completing the room within the hour but the staff was generous enough to let us finish the room. The rooms have so much detail, you can tell a lot of work was put into them. Steam Punk: My aunt, grandma, and cousin were in town for the weekend, and after returning from our cabin adventures we stopped by to visit. My aunt wanted to get out for a bit and mentioned my cousin might want to do an escape room, so we came here and had a good time. We've done a couple of other rooms here (Dr. Gene Etics and Game Over) and have a good time. We are sad to know that this room is being replaced - I think it might be my favorite of the ones we've done here. Theme:This is a great theme and the decoration is very fun. Quality:Everything worked extremely well (or, at least, when you read and follow the instructions...). Difficulty:This was about average in difficulty, but had enough to keep you thinking. Fun:I LOVED some of the surprises in here - a lot of fun things as you go through and we laughed a lot. ======== Dr. Gene Etics: For our second visit to Xcape Adventures, we checked out some genetics. This had one of the coolest physical challenges I've done. It was a pain in the but, but creative - you'll notice it since it takes up a whole wall when you enter. These guys really care a lot and want to make this a good experience, but the room was a little abused. I think this one takes the prize for the most rooms in an escape room. Theme:Loved this theme - very well designed and had some great surprises in store for us. Quality:Again, like their other room, there was a lot of work but also some broken things. We have to get help a couple times for this. Difficulty:This was about average difficulty, but had a few very creative puzzles that we haven't seen since. Fun:There were some very interesting challenges in here was a fun experience. ======== Game Over: This was my first escape room and it got me hooked. This is one of the original escape rooms in the Dallas area. I was quite surprised to find them in Mesquite which is not a central location. Ellie and Fred had done one before and brought us along for this one. I hear that they have decided not to stress the tie in with Pixels. They mentioned that it was done in partnership with Sony. I think that its a good idea to avoid pushing the tie in. This one is still very creative and challenging anyway. Theme:This was a fun concept, but based on a movie (Pixels) that none of us had seen. Quality:It is clear that a lot of effort was put into this, but it wasn't as well put together as some of the other rooms and a couple of puzzles took several tries as a result. Difficulty:After having gone through more escape rooms since this one, I would put the difficulty of this one squarely in the middle. It wasn't the hardest but definitely had a few challenging puzzles in it. Fun:We had a lot of fun in this room. So much fun! I already LOVE puzzle "escape" video games and so the types of puzzles here were not entirely new to me. Made it less intimidating for sure! My husband and I went together for a date night; he was pretty intimidated and thought we would fail, but he ended up having a BLAST. We participated with 3 other people (whom we did not know but had also purchased tickets for that room's time slot) and all had fun together. We definitely asked for a hint the few times we got REALLY stuck, but it didn't take the challenge out of the game: the hints were helpful but vague; just enough to nudge us in the right direction. If you purchase single tickets, you'll likely be paired up with a few strangers, but let me encourage you not to be worried about hesitating on that account! We all had such a lovely time and worked together well Just do your best to communicate with your teammates, explore the whole room, and arrange clues together as fast as you can. We chose the Captain Scully pirate-themed room and it did not disappoint! There were definitely a few surprises for me!!! The couple who run this joint are SO kind. They told us they have been in the escape room business five years, back when there were only a few dozen in the whole nation--now there are a few dozen in DFW alone! They're business is still going strong and has fantastic reviews on the web. They were lovely people and worthy of more visits from us whenever we can make it out again. Tip: If you're not confident in your puzzle-solving capabilities, you can practice at home by playing "escape the room" games--there are several good ones you can download in the app store and many websites dedicated to them as well. The practice should help orient your mind to the kinds of puzzles you'll find here. read more

This was the first time anyone in my group, including me, had done an escape room. It was a great experience! The employees were very friendly and very helpful with any questions we had. They were also very good at giving hints that guided us rather than telling us what to do. (You have 1 hour to escape and get three hints.) We did the Captain Skully room. It was very well done with great attention to detail. We felt like we were really on a pirate ship looking for the treasure! The time flew by quite quickly because we were having so much fun! If you're a fan of steam punk or video games, make sure you book a game before the end of April, because those two rooms are closing for good. These were the original two rooms in their first location, but have since expanded to a second building around the corner with other rooms. We like to space out our escape room experiences, but since these were closing soon and we are a good drive away from Mesquite, we decided to do both of these in the same day. We have a good amount of escape game experience, so we are starting to figure out what to look for in the rooms. Still, despite the experience, there were a couple times where we just stood in the middle of a room looking around for a key/clue/puzzle/etc. We were the only two in the Steam Punk room, and, using the three clues given to us, we beat it with about 8 minutes to spare. Then we did the Game Over room with 5 other people and we finished it with about 15 minutes to go, using only one of the three clues. Both games were incredibly very well done, the puzzles all made sense, and nothing was impossible if you took time to understand the clues. Several times I've come away from a room asking myself, "How were we supposed to know that?" or "What was the point of this clue?". These rooms left me completely satisfied, as every puzzle was solvable if you just think about what's in the room. These escape rooms are highly recommended, especially if it's nearby. We will definitely be back to try the others when we find time to make the trip. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful, making it a great experience overall. read more

3 of us were here 2 weekends ago and had a blast! We did both the Steampunk and Space Encounter rooms. Both rooms are extremely thought out and have extensive puzzle systems that you have to work your way through. We managed to beat Steampunk with 4 minutes left (missed some obvious hints) but lost Space Encounter on the last clue. This room was difficult and required some "hints" from the staff. Pricing for these rooms is outstanding. $99 for the entire room, rather you bring 2 or up to 8 people. This is half off any other escape room I've seen. Typically you pay $28-30 a person, but will be paired up with strangers if you don't have the full 8 people. First, I wouldn't want to work with strangers on these kinds of puzzles. There are some whack jobs out there. Second, I think having 8 people would be too many. It all depends on the minds of the people you bring. Owner was absolutely outstanding. Fantastic customer service and spent time talking to us about the rooms and how they came to be. This is a MUST for anyone who loves video games. It reminded me of a Tomb Raider/ Bioshock puzzles with a Fallout feel. Anyone would enjoy this though! Can't wait until they open new rooms and I'm back in the area to try it out. read more

This was pretty cool! Not only have I ever done an escape room, I have never even heard of the concept. It sounded scary at first (being locked in a room & having to find the way out) but it definitely wasn't what I was picturing. We arrived at the location with our group of 10 & the owner took us to our escape room. We did the pirate room, I believe it was called "Captain Sulley's" or something along those lines. The owner explained the rules & he told us we got 3 clues throughout the hour just in case we got stuck. Not a single one of us in the group had ever done an escape room & when we told the owner he said we picked the hardest room they have. This is the only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5, I think they should list the levels of difficulty on their website when we booked because we surely wouldn't have picked the room with a "20-30% success rate". Needless to say, we didn't finish the room in the hour time that is given. It was pretty difficult, the only time we really got anywhere was when we asked for clues. Which is a bummer, but it was still super fun! After the hour was up the owner came in & explained what we still had to complete to get out & it didn't even seem as though we were half way done! He did offer to take our picture at the end in the room which I thought was nice! I would like to go back & try one of the easier rooms for beginners. :) read more

The video on their website was so fantastic. I couldn't wait to round up some friends and go! The booking process was a breeze and parking was ample. You'll most likely be greeted by the owner (or one of the owners). This guy was so passionate about gaming and proving the best game-play experience. I like how you book the entire game for $99 for 2-8 players. This way, you'll be playing with people that you are familiar with and may know their strengths & weaknesses. We played the steam punk game. Of course you're not getting any spoilers from me, but I can guarantee you that you won't be disappointed. I am a commercial designer and always wanted to get into set design. With that said, I think these guys did an amazing job with their game set- so innovative. I've done escape rooms in the past and this one ranks as one of the best! I went with my brothers and we did "game over" and "steampunk". I liked that it's a set rate for a room and you can have up to 10 people. It's your own private room. The staff is very friendly and the facility itself is set up very nice! As far as the rooms go, the puzzles are unique and the props/technology are nice. The clues are placed everywhere and require some thinking which is nice. You don't want it to be too easy! "Game over" in my opinion was harder but both are each fun! I will be returning for sure to do their other room! Thanks yall! read more
