Octopus, couscous and avocado cream
Lana P.

Simply incredible. It's all about accuracy and relevance. From the service, the tasty decorated place to the quality of the dishes. The fact that the menu is translated in English and French might remind you of a touristic trap but it's meant to help understand better the sophisticated composition of the dishes. Even the salt cellar and cutlery are from Guy Degrenne ® In terms of food I would highly recommend the octopus or the salad with prawns.

Shrimp and pork
CJ B.

A really nice spot with excellent service, innovative and delicious food and a hip atmosphere. The dishes are all fairly small so we were able to sample a number. We had the mozzarella salad, sardines, sausage bonbons and pork and prawns. There was enough for each to have a taste but not too much that we still had room for chocolate cake with cherries. Each dish was an interesting taste. The pork was as tender we've ever had (unlike many Portuguese dishes) and the mango and avocado salad that accompanied the sardines were standouts. This place is not hard to find and worth the stroll south from the Baixa-Chiado Metro stop to get there.

Having experienced fado outside of Portugal I didn't feel strongly that it was a must-do, but when I found myself at night on the street that is known for fado I prioritized it. For the best fado experience I recommend an intimate space, hopefully crowded with people but also with a view to the performers. Tasca do Chico is exactly that place. The doorman told us that space was standing room only, at the (tiny) bar. From there we could see and hear the performers while ordering food and drink. We'd not been there long before we were offered an available seat at a table which caused us to order more food and drink and stay a little longer. The fado here is quite good, made even more enjoyable as the artists change quite frequently; a song or two and a new artist steps forward, all very talented and enjoyable to watch and hear. The fado places tend to have lines out the door and a doorman managing entry. A place across the street looked much bigger but the intimacy is, in my opinion, what makes the experience both unique and special. Even if you have to start at the bar, Tasca do Chico is a great place to experience fado.

On the bright side, I met some new friends in line, and honestly, it was worth it even though I hoped the wait was shorter. The drinks and performances were incredible and exceeded my expectations. It's a small place so the performances felt very intimate, what a memorable night! Just a heads up: they only take cash, so don't make the same mistake I did. Cheers!

The entrance is roped out - when you try to get in, one of the staff members comes out to explain the 'rule'...basically two food items per person is required (requested), so you cannot come here just for beverages. There were lots of yummy tapas dishes described on the blackboard, but I definitely enjoyed my selection - well, thanks to the helpful staff to make my decision. The food across the board was excellent--every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's real intention behind both the menu and execution. What really elevated the experience, though, was our waiter, Bernardo. He brought incredible energy to the table--full of personality, engaging, and genuinely fun to interact with. At the same time, his service was top-notch: attentive without being overbearing, helpful with recommendations, and clearly passionate about what he does. Great food is one thing, but when you pair it with service like that, it turns into a memorable experience. Highly recommend--and if you get Bernardo, you're in for a great time.

This place delivers such a joyful experience and I would have gladly gone again...except I had to leave Lisbon the next morning. I will miss Lisboa é Linda. First night: Delicious amuse-bouche; fantastic spinach soup; cuttlefish with ink risotto; éclair with pistachio cream; two different rosés; 10-year port. Second night: an even tastier amuse-bouche; the perfect spinach soup (the same, I liked it so much); tuna in a ginger/garlic reduction; roasted kid crépine with broccoli rabe; hazelnut crème brûlée; two different white wines; 50-year port (phenomenal). I was in heaven and still am just thinking of it all. The kindness and expertise of staff and owner topped it all off.

I had the octopus with spinach and it was divine. The catch was straight from the Algarve. My friend had tofu curry and loved it. The wine menu is extensive but they will help you navigate it easily. If you are not drinking they have yummy fresh juice options as well. This authentic Portuguese gem is not to be missed!!!

I have Celiac disease and so navigating food when traveling is always an experience for me and I immediately tagged this place as one we would return to. Sadly, when we went and I said I needed to be gluten-free and asked if they had a separate menu when I only saw three items the server said "We really don't have a lot." ...then why is it advertised in huge letters on the sign outside? Felt strange. The service was exceptional of course - none of this at all is a condemnation of the employees - they were all great and attentive and helpful... I just think the advertising of the menu and branding needs... some rework? The check arrived with major sticker shock for fries, wings, and sangria (that was way way too sweet). We spend a good amount of our disposable income on dining out, with intent, and the value ratio for this one was... off. Environment? Very chill neighborhood "burger bar" type place. There are some couches and lots of art on the walls for purchase and pretty extensive beer list - larger than I had seen at any other restaurant in Alfama and beyond.

Ended up squeezing in at a table by the door, not ideal as we were already cold and wet, but didn't want to have to go back out in the rain to find someplace else. Service was quick and friendly and we ordered a couple of local draft beers and the Piri Piri wings and a prawn sandwich. Prawn sandwich was ok, not a lot of flavor but came with some sweet potato chips and a nice arugula salad. Wings were fantastic, fell off the bone, grilled perfectly with just a bit of heat. Came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. Beers were decent. Probably would have given it 5 stars but it was so loud and cold that we had a hard time enjoying the atmosphere and good food.
