Called Phil Davison, owner, to repair a broken electric water heater. After trying a few troubleshooting tips to diagnose the lack of heat & source of water leak over the phone, determined a replacement was needed. Scheduled appointment for next day. Was advised that there was one call before me. Next day, Phil called to say he was running late due to the early call, and would keep me updated. As the day went on, he called to keep me informed. Well it got to afternoon, and I was worried he might not make it. Around 4:00pm Phil called to say he was done with the other job and was picking up the replacement heater. Asked if he could work late, or if I wanted to be the first appointment the next morning. Said I wanted hot water. Phil arrived about 5:30pm and worked past 8:00pm. He had to remove part of the door jam in the water tank closet to be able to bring in the slightly larger energy efficient tank. He did a nice job so it could be put back easily. When he was done, Phil cleaned up everything, leaving no sign he was even there. Thought his price was very reasonable, considering another plumber that did my neighbors heater charged almost double (but it was a 70-gallon gas vs my 40-gallon electric). read more

Phil Davison is a good, honest, fair man, and he solved a tough problem for us. With our old tankless water heater, we were waiting upwards of two minutes for hot water to arrive on the other side of the house. Phil went above and beyond our expectations by taking care of doing a lot research and legwork, and we worked with him to arrive ultimately at a solution with which we were comfortable. I recently decided to purchase a water treatment system to address the nasty effects of San Diego's hard water on my home. After considering two different systems which use different methods of treating the effects of hard water, I decided to purchase a whole-home water treatment system manufactured by Pelican Water Systems. The manufacturer provided me with the names of 3 plumbers in my area that install their product, one of which was Phil of X-Spurt Plumbing. Phil was my first & only call. Phil answered my questions about the effectiveness of the product I was considering and I decided to purchase the system from Phil after speaking with him on the phone for about 10 minutes. I was comfortable from my brief discussion with Phil that he had considered the various products in the market to treat hard water and believed this product to be a suitable solution for San Diego's hard water. Three days after originally speaking with Phil the system was installed in about 3 hours. Not only is Phil's workmanship first-rate, but his methods & materials used for the installation are consistent with a professional who's adopted the latest plumbing techniques. Phil's plumbing abilities are very evident by the way he made the entire installation look so incredibly easy. My respect for Phil's workmanship and "no-nonsense" way of doing business will result in my automatically calling Phil the next time I have any plumbing-related task, large or small. As far as the water treatment system itself, I waited two weeks since installation was completed before writing this review so that I could also share my observations related to the performance of the system. Now that second week with the Pelican water system in use has passed, any skepticism I had has been completely extinguished. One of the most visible signs that the system is providing the desired end-result is that water splashed (and, on occasion, left to dry) on the kitchen counter or bathroom vanity is no longer leaving difficult-to-remove lime scale on those surfaces. I can safely say that my goal of addressing the effects of San Diego's hard water on my home's water heater, appliances, faucets, fixtures and counter tops has been fully satisfied. I like the fact that this system doesn't add sodium to the water as a by-product of the softening process. An added benefit of the system is that the carbon filter component of this system substantially removes many objectionable chemicals from the San Diego municipal water, not the least of which is chlorine. Just as important as the results delivered by the Pelican water treatment system, I've been fortunate to discover Phil, who I won't hesitate to call in the future when plumbing needs arise. X-Spurt Plumbing (Phil) did all the plumbing on my entire house remodel. 5+ bathrooms, many sinks, speciality tubs, hot water recirculator, and of course a whole house water filtration system. His bid was far less then the other bids. He was professional, and honest. Since then I've had a couple issues with different things, i.e., water temp, pressure, nothing that was his fault just typical new build stuff. He always called me back in a timely manner and quickly addressed anything that needed tweaking. Then disaster happened! It turned out that the people that plastered my new pool used the sewer clean out to wash the excess plaster away, I saw them doing it, a big plaster hose along with a water hose to wash the plaster down. I had no idea it was illegal. After a few weeks the whole house starting backing up as the plaster had hardened in the pipes. Phil had to snake and search the pipes exhaustively with a camera to find some of the hardened plaster, it was between my house and the street. He cut out and replaced that portion of the sewer pipe, but he also thought there was a lot more in other parts of the sewer pipes. He handled everything from contacting the pool plasterer, showing him the hardened plaster from the pipe he had cut out, to getting someone out here that actually shaves the inside of the pipes. Since it had been done illegally the pool plasterer paid for all the repairs. But without Phil, I'd be living a nightmare of my whole house backing up when a toilet was flushed or we showered. From being able to drink from any tap in the house and to wash and shower with water that doesn't have that awful chlorine smell. I recommend a water filtration system and Phil to everyone!
