Beef bone soup mild spicy (actually spicy!) with my metric ton of ingredients.
    Tim W.

Starting off by saying the food was pretty good. I was feeling soupy and this definitely hit the spot with its garlicky spicy goodness. The lack of stars is due to the customer service or lackthereof. Came in during a slow time on a Monday night. The place was being manned by a long-haired guy. I will say, I walked in during his meal, and felt bad about interrupting his dinner. I walked up to the register as this was a new experience for me. He asked if it was my first time. I say yes. He points to the sauce station with the bowls and says something along the lines of "go get your food". Okay...it's easy enough to figure it out, grab a bowl and a pair of tongs and go to town on the ingredients bar. Again, the food itself was pretty good (Beef broth Mild is decently spicy) with good flavor. My biggest issue lies in their system for side sauce containers and dude's demeanor. I grabbed the larger container to make my side dipping sauce. When it came time to take my leftovers to go, I got up and asked the guy for a lid. He responds with "Huh!?". "Can I have a lid, please?" He handed me a lid for my soup. I then asked for a lid for my dipping sauce container. He points to the container rack and goes "No lid, only small cups have lids". I noticed a stack of lids next to the stack of container lids that he handed me and asked if I could use one of those? He then scoffs and holds up a deli container and says "this lid is for this, not that!" As if what I asked was so ridiculous. Anyways, I understand not having lids for the bigger container readily available to deter to-go folks from wasting product, but how about reserving lids for dine-in customers? If I've already filled the container, I have to now pour it into multiple smaller cups or toss the rest? Seems counterintuitive. The lid system is dumb, but that dude needs some lessons on the bare minimum of customer service.

Finally got to try this spot and I really liked it. I've read some reviews about it being a little messy during busy hours, but it was very well kept when we came today. The broth is seasoned perfectly and I rarely had to dip my food in the sauce. I like that the spice level is an accurate point. So sad that they were out of quail eggs and the beef was a little chewy/tough because it was mostly tendon. There's a weight minimum of 1 lb. They have indoor and outdoor seating. ig: @cravingswithcat

My favorite malatang spot in Garden Grove! Had to go with the beef bone broth and medium spice as always. For my sauce I went with 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 soy sauce and a scoop of garlic, cilantro, and green onion. For toppings my favorite are the sausage, tofu skin, wood ear mushrooms, and the pork blood. The sauce and toppings bar were very clean and well-stocked. The food came out really quickly as well. The rewards system is pretty good too - every 12lbs, you can get a 1lb free. Convenient spot for a quick lunch!

Came to visit friends in Garden Grove and found this great malatang place with a self-service bar and affordable prices! We went there for their soft opening so they gave us a 12% discount and free soft drink (coca cola or sprite)! The base price is only $14.99/lb, and even lower after the discount. We were required to purchase a minimum of 1 pound, but that's usually easy to hit and would be a large enough portion for one person. Not too many options so the choices aren't overwhelming, perfect if you're craving malatang. My favorite items were the thinly sliced beef, thinly sliced lamb, quail eggs, and fish tofu. The space is small and compact, but looks fairly clean. The place is located in a shopping plaza with other stores nearby.

Okay, the hubby and I have been back 6 times since we first went two weeks ago. And I don't know if it's our hyper fixation, BUT this place is delish for what it is. Now there are tons of other malatang spots popping up all over OC, mainly in the Irvine area and keep an open mind when dining here. The selection of toppings/fixings is limited but you get your standard hot pot fix. Protein is plenty in the form of balls, the sliced shabu style meat is towards the end near the register so don't pile on too much of the processed balls. Veggies/seafood options are good, but if you come later in the evening they may run out and will not refill. I've left cabbage-less and my bowl just wasn't the same. I have gotten the Beef Bone Broth both medium and wild and I prefer the medium, the flavor is *chef's kiss*. The hubby loves the Tom Yum; just think of a premium version of the Mama Noodles. 1. Grab a bowl and some tongs 2. Gather your goodies 3. Weigh and pick your broth 4. Pay, get a number, find a seat 5. Water and utensils will be provided once you find a seat 6. Personal hot pot bowls will come out in minutes 7. There's a decent sized sauce bar for you to make your own concoction! Parking: BE VERY CAREFUL!! It's in the same plaza where a few cars have plowed into buildings and an electric car recently caught fire.

New Malatang place opened up near home. It's small with good options. The price is great too. I've tried the Beef Bone and Tum Yum soup, those are delicious. I'll try the other ones next time. Service is great. The decor is nice and it's not too loud. The only downside is the goma sauce. They used to make it thick but lately it has been watered down.

This is the first malatang place that I know of in Westminster/Garden Grove so location is a big plus for me. The plaza is generally pretty busy but there's plenty of parking. Service was quick and I like this place is also open pretty late. Def good enough to satisfy a malatang craving but I will say they don't have much of a red meat selection since beef was the only option Beef broth, medium spice: 4/5. I liked it but it wasn't as spicy as I expected and would have liked. I did like that they put a spoon of garlic in for this particular broth option though

New malatang place in town!! As an avid soup lover and regular at other malatang shops- i would say x-malatang is going to be apart of the rotation. I loved the variety of veggies, seafood, and noodle options! I loved how they had pork blood as well! The service is friendly and you get the soups fast! The store itself is kinda smaller so there isn't too much seating, I can see this place getting busy! Soup wise, we got the wild spice which had a bit of a kick to it- more of a thai chili spice than the numbing schezuan. I did think the soup was a bit on the sweeter side as well. Overall- im curious to try the other broths!

A fun place to eat, you can choose whatever you like, the soup is delicious and just right. The prices are also reasonable, you should try it.

I visited this place after reading many good reviews. You can choose your own ingredients and put them in a bowl, then pick your soup base. The staff will weigh your bowl and heat it up for you. There are plenty of seats inside, and you can also make your own dipping sauce. The food is 7/10 for me. The staff are friendly and nice.

Good place to get malatang in the Garden Grove area since many other places are further. We went during their opening so they had 12% off and free soda per purchase. Interior and ingredient selection is a little small but it gets the job done. I would say the medium spice is not that spicy. We asked and the mild spice is no spice at all, so medium just had a small kick. It's not like other malatang places where medium is unbearable. The dry pot was peanuty like Dan Dan noodles and saucy. The bone broth was also pretty solid. Overall there are other better malatang places but it gets the job done and gets a plus because it's open late.

    Jess E.

Decent malatang and pretty spicy if you choose the spiciest category called "wild". Only complaint is the fish ball options weren't that great and limited selection of meats, veggies and seafood. Reasonable price though at about $15.99 per pound.

    Jenny P.

New malatang spot in Garden Grove! Big plaza so lots of parking. The inside is very clean with a limited variety of veggies and noodles to choose from. Currently, they only have beef which they store separately from the rest of the veggies in an ice cream display freezer. It's $14.99/lb and the broth is a little watered down compared to other places, but not a bad option if you're craving malatang.
