If I had to describe this place in two words, it would be missed potential. The food here was honestly amazing, but unfortunately, the service didn't quite live up to the quality of the food. If Yelp allowed half stars, I would give this place a 3.5/5, and I'll explain why. Starting with the food, I honestly have no complaints. The fish was incredibly fresh, and you could tell they weren't cutting corners when it came to quality. Everything we ordered from the sushi bar tasted great, and the rolls were a good size with generous portions. The fried food was also amazing, perfectly crispy and cooked well without feeling overly greasy. The ramen was another solid choice, and overall, the food was easily the highlight of our visit. Whoever is running the kitchen and sushi bar definitely knows what they're doing. Unfortunately, the service was a completely different story. This was our first time visiting, and from the moment we walked in, the experience felt a little underwhelming. We weren't greeted with much enthusiasm, nobody seemed to have a smile on their face, and there wasn't much effort to make us feel welcomed. Since this was our first visit, we weren't familiar with how everything worked, and nobody took the time to explain the ordering process. One thing I found a little strange was how the food was brought to our table. Whenever our sushi orders arrived, nobody explained which fish was which. They would bring the plates over, stand there looking at us, and wait for us to figure out where to make room. No "excuse me," no asking us to move a plate, or even a simple explanation of what they were serving. It was almost like we were supposed to read their minds. Another thing was the water situation. Our glasses weren't refilled unless we asked, and even then, we had to ask multiple times. I understand restaurants get busy, and I don't expect someone to constantly check on our table, but I feel like refilling water is one of the simplest parts of good service. What disappointed me the most was the overall lack of friendliness. There wasn't much conversation, no checking in to see how our food was, and honestly, no real sense of hospitality throughout our meal. Of course, once it was time for the bill and tip, the interaction suddenly felt a little more attentive. I'm honestly one of the easiest people to please when it comes to restaurants. I don't expect anything fancy, and a simple smile, friendly greeting, and decent service go a long way with me. I've only ever given five-star reviews on Yelp, so writing something less than five stars is a little difficult for me, especially when the food was this good. Overall, I think this restaurant has a lot of potential. The quality of the fish, the sushi, the fried food, and the ramen were all excellent, and I would gladly come back for the food alone. I feel like with a little more attention to customer service and hospitality, this place would easily be a five star experience. I'm also interested in trying their Buena Park location to see how the two compare. Great food deserves great service, and unfortunately, this visit only delivered on one of those.
We ate good! Fish is high quality and service was fast. The wait time was like 25 mins on a Saturday night. There was also nice lighting so the vibes were good. Overall a great night with good eats!

I've heard many good things about this place and I understand why! We were luckily enough to come on a day that wasn't too crowded and got seared immediately. The chairs imo, were too high for the table, I felt like I was hovering over the food, idk if that makes sense but something I noticed immediately after sitting. The menu system is a bit confusing. There's a paper menu and one you place online via QR code. For the paper menu, we were limited to 20 pieces of nigiri at a time. This wasn't a huge deal since it was only 2 of us, but I can see how that can become frustrating with larger groups especially since there's only 3 rounds, unless the limit increases with group size. The online ordering system only allowed you to order 2 appetizers at a time. I love me some baked mussels and unfortunately 1 order = 1 baked mussels which means we were only able to order 2 mussels at a time and then have to wait until our 5 minute wait period is over before placing another order. This is the first sushi restaurant that I been to that had this small of a limit... They also limited you on the carpaccio order but that was expected. Aside from the menu and ordering frustration, I think their food and service is great. Their fish tasted very high quality and the fish to rice ratio was spot on! They had many different options of nigiri to try, so we definitely got to try a little of everything. There was only 1 item we didn't like and our server was kind enough to remove it from our bill. Overall it was a good place for high quality sushi. I just wish I wasn't so limited when placing orders since it is ayce and they already emphasis the leftover charge.
came first thing when they opened on a Saturday, it def was already pretty busy and they seemed short staffed. During our meal there was someone who i assumed was newer to the restaurant and the person training or teaching them was really loud and kind of rude pointing and touching all the tables trying to teach the new person the layout. I understand training but I don't think it was a good idea to do it in front of full tables of guests. or maybe have a map of the tables near the kitchen for them to review but training very very loudly and disturbing others guests just did not sit well. Besides that the food was great as always. I wish they did offer a less rice option but the portion isn't as much as other places. It's a very very busy location so i would recommend getting there a decent amount of time earlier than you'd want to eat.
Sushi sushi sushi. Loved everything about this place - the service, the food, and the ambiance. Fish is fresh and price is very reasonable. We went here right when they opened on a Sunday and didn't have to wait for a table. Plenty of parking and near so many good places to walk to after eating all that sushi.
Service was good and quick ~ never had to wait long to place new ayce rounds, arrived around 3pm on a Saturday for a party of 4 and no wait. Interior is really clean and nice decor. We did the $42 ayce standard and it was very good. Probably my favorite ayce sushi places. They have a huge menu of nigiri, carpaccio, appetizers, ramen, rolls with a handful of rice less rolls (we liked the Sakura roll). Sushi quality was great! Some items are limited to 2 pc per person like the carpaccio and those were some of our favorites. Unagi (eel) is limited in sushi form but you can get unlimited eel hand rolls.
Good quality for a reasonable price. Personal favorites are the mackerel and squid. The service was good and quick. Their sides of ginger was great for a palette cleanser.
Still my fav all you can eat sushi spot. Lunch deal is such a great deal. If you like salmon. Don't sleep on this spot. I hate when all the fish taste the same. But here the salmon is always nice and buttery. Great texture Salmon bomb I get regular salmon and peppered that has a slight sear Udon soup is really good here. Get the Nagasaki spicy udon. Flavor is so good. Little char flavor that I love. This is a must get Fried tempura shrimp is done well Always good food. Always great service. Plenty of parking

X-Fish has been on my list for quite awhile and finally it got to try it. We did the lunch signature $41.99 pp My friends have been raving at how affordable and delish the fish here is esp the toro but I had one order of it and I did not want another order off the menu at all. Only good tasting item was the Alaskan roll. Calamari Karaage is also a good appetizer. Items we tried during our visit: *Baked Mussel - came out on the cold side. Baked mussels is usually warm. *Alaskan Roll *Orion Draft *Grilled Chicken Teriyaki (Half Size) tastes like they used old oil or it's been in the deep freezer for awhile. *Albacore Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Yellowtail Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Baked Scallop Roll *Rainbow Roll - 1 - tasted normal. Walking into the establishment to put my name down it had a fishy smell. But I tried my best to just keep a positive outlook since I've had friends who rave about the place. But after the meal, I felt like I should've listened to my gut when I smelled how fishy it smelled. Restroom needed attention! Female toliet has no toilet seats and just needed to be cleaned up. I personally would not recommend this spot nor would I come back. I just felt very disappointed and like I wasted my money since it was not the best tasting. Sushi is delicious! Our favorite is smoked salmon, the giant scallops, yuzu yellowtail and Cajun tuna. We enjoyed everything but the tri peppered sushi, they were mildly flavored and underwhelming. The first two rounds of our order arrived quickly but the third time we had to get the servers attention to pick up the order sheet (I noticed another table had to do the same) staff passed by our table multiple times and didn't pick it up. This time the sushi took a long time to arrive, it pushed us to the 90 minute time limit. I appreciated one staff member coming by and giving grilled chicken skewer sample (very good!) The restaurant is round shaped and the acoustics inside is awful. It's very noisy and it's difficult to hear the staff. The chairs scrape on the floor. Also the table tops have water damage from the ice water glass condensations, coasters would help. The restrooms were ghetto. One of the women's sink was out of order, one of the stalls was out of toilet paper but the big roll was precariously hanging from the stall door hook and it fell and rolled on the floor. For the price I expected a better experience.
Tried this for dinner on a Thursday around 6 pm with a party of 2. We were seated right away, but heads up, they won't seat you until everyone in your party arrives. It's located in a big shopping center with Ralph's and Home Goods. I'd recommend parking in the open lots since it's much easier to find a spot than using the structure next to X-Fish. We went with the Omakase and spent about $60 each including tip. Food was good with a nice variety, including tonkotsu, sushi (of course), and a chicken BBQ skewer. The seafood quality was solid, although u had just gotten back from Japan, so it's hard not to compare. We wanted to try some of their wines, but they only sold it by the bottle, which was more than we wanted. Taking off 1 star because it was very loud inside. I think it's the way the space is built - everyone's voices seem to echo. Overall, good food and decent value, just not the best place if you're looking to have conversation over dinner.

Finally tried another AYCE Sushi again. Saw this place and heard some good reviews. Good sushi to rice ratio. 90 minutes time limit. More than enough with good pace of incoming sushi. Nigiri and specialty order by paper. 10 pcs/person/round for Nigiri. Up to 3 round. So max is 30pcs Nigiri per person. With groups plenty enough to share. The rest is truly unlimited such as rolls, tempura, udon, ramen, etc. Except the specialty, such as Carpacio. Order thru QR Code. We could not even eat 120 pcs Nigiri for 4 of us. Cause we ordered some rolls too. Sushi was fresh. Roll is hit and miss. The QR code order takes awhile for some reason even simple stuff like Edamame, Miso Soup. Modern ambiance dining area. Very spacious and rarely see them completely full. Good for once awhile treat. Parking is plentiful with parking garage next to it and EV charging. read more

Went to X-Fish Izakaya with a friend and had such a great time! We ordered a bunch of hot sake and shared a variety of dishes--everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The sashimi was top-notch, the grilled skewers were packed with flavor, and the small plates were so good we kept adding more to our order. Service was fast, attentive, and friendly. Wait time wasn't really worth it. Sure it's downtown Brea and you have a lot of other places to walk around and look at, but it's an AYCE sushi place so what can you really expect? It's not going to be 5 star sushi unless the price is like $100 per person... That being said, this was the first time I've seen them force us to use Arabic numbers when ordering sushi instead of using tally marks like every other sushi place I've been to. One of the first things I saw them do when we arrived was try to upsell us on their "premium" AYCE which basically comes with a plate that has some premium nigiri on it to look good for instagram photos or something. I personally don't think it's worth the extra cost, I believe it was like an extra $25 for it if I'm not mistaken. Anyways, it didn't seem worth it so we opted out of it. You can see in the attached photos what looks like obviously carbonmonoxide blasted tuna in my opinion (by the super bright pinkish color), OK salmon, and the yellow tail and other white fish wasn't that good in my opinion. Again it's an AYCE place, I can't give it a high rating regardless. But what made this experience not very good is that I felt like I had to constantly flag down the staff every time just to get their attention, even for basic thing like water refills and such. Then they have this special menu you have to use your phone to order on which would be convenient if they let you order everything on phone instead of only certain items, but it's ok. My tummy hurt while eating here so I had to use the bathroom before our party even left. Not good. Anyways this is my 100% personal opinion. It's not the worst place I've ever been to but it's definitely not somewhere I ever plan on coming back to every again. Thank you! read more

Honestly, X-Fish is my go to AYCE because they don't douse spicy mayo/eel sauce over their sushi's! Also the quality and cut per order is thick and the rice to fish ratio is perfect. I go here so often and enjoy coming every time. The staff is usually attentive and the hot foods come out quick. We've brought friends and family over and have recommended it to others and they've enjoyed it as well. I am giving 4 stars because although the hot foods come out quick, the sushi does take a while to come out after your first order. This is understandable due to how busy the restaurant is but it also becomes challenging when you're sitting and waiting for your next round of sushi and start to get full while you wait and have to force yourself to finish it so you don't have to pay the extra fee. But honestly we've never had a hard time finishing the plates IF there's at least 3 of us because the others can help finish the rest. I also enjoy all the hot food items except for the ramen. I think the ramen is a hit or miss. Sometimes it's seasoned well and sometimes there's no flavor at all and could benefit from a little salt. Nonetheless this is still my favorite AYCE spot and will choose this over all the other options. There's a long waitlist if you come around dinner but you can kill time around the area. read more

Actually ridiculous experience. They had us waiting almost an hour just to turn around and tell us we couldn't eat there anymore. Like why even put people on a waitlist if you're not gonna honor it? Completely wasted our time for no reason. No communication, no apology, nothing. Staff acted like they didn't care at all while we sat there waiting forever. Watching other groups get seated while we kept getting ignored made it even worse. If y'all were too busy or couldn't take more customers, then say that from the beginning instead of making people wait around like idiots. This place seriously needs to learn how to manage customers better because this was beyond disrespectful. We planned our night around eating here and left annoyed, hungry, and feeling like our time meant absolutely nothing to them. Definitely not worth the hype, not worth the wait, and honestly one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. Respect people's time. Came here as a party of 3 on a Saturday night (8pm) and waited ~1 hour despite Yelp waitlist estimated 1.5 hours. Server explained how ordering worked: they give you a sheet of paper with all the items on it and you get 3 rounds where you mark off how many of each item you'd like to order per round. Food was DELICIOUS, fish was very fresh and presentation is great. All your orders come out at the same time on one giant plate. We waited over 30 minutes for the first round (I want to take off a star for the long wait) but at the same time, it was understandable since they're very busy during dinner hours. Second and third rounds took about 20 mins each. Most of our time limit of 90 mins was spent waiting for our food. You can scan the QR code on your table ticket to access a larger digital menu with AYCE tempura, soup, hand rolls, cooked rolls, ramen, and udon! You submit orders from that menu on the site, no need to call a server over to order. Orders go straight to the kitchen for prep and your server brings it over once ready. The triple seaweed udon was my hit aside from the sushi. They forgot a few items when ordered on the digital menu and we had to reorder multiple times. I felt like the servers were too nonchalant and casual during our time there. They never came by to refill waters or check on our table, and when asked for water refills and napkins, they took their time, which is something I've never seen in such a busy establishment. Parking is plentiful with a parking garage next door and the lot in the neighboring plaza. I want to dock a star for the lackluster service but this time I'll let it slide since they're very busy were busy. Heard the other location has faster and more attentive service, so I will try the other location next time. read more

This place is amazing! X-Fish Izakaya is located in a convenient shopping area located in Buena Park, Orange County. The restaurant is located next to a garage and a parking lot means there are lots of parking options. When you walk in, the restaurant is lively and a great size where it gives a spacious feeling. I loved the music playing as well! Myself and my friends came here on a Saturday around 2 pm. It wasn't too busy but we still signed in on the wait list to get a table. On the menu we chose the Signature option which is the middle choice between the three options. Everything we ordered was delicious. My two favorite sushi options were the buttered peppered shrimp and the cajan Tuna. Every option though was super fresh and tasteful. I especially love their 55$ omakase platter plus AYCE. The sushi rice is the perfect amount and presentation is always neat. X-Fish is the best AYCE sushi restaurant that I've tried. It is clean, the selection is wide, and the quality of fish is good and the price is very affordable. Lunch is only $28 which is a steal considering 2 rolls can already exceed that at a sushi restaurant. The nigiri pieces are very good as they do not have too much rice. The AYCE selection includes udon, ramen, handrolls, and the signature selection includes adegashi tofu, kaarages and premium cuts of nigiri We came on a Thursday during lunch and although the restaurant was full, we did not have to wait. I just realized the review I left for this location was actually meant for Buena Park. All those intoxicated late nights/early mornings are finally catching up to me. Anyway, my wife and I typically go to the Buena Park location, but decided on keeping it a little closer to home this time and gave the Brea location a try instead. To keep things short: The food, menu, vibes, ordering system, etc. all of it is exactly the same! Even the average/mediocre customer service, so props to keeping the experience consistent at both locations I guess. However, the biggest difference is that it's much smaller. And maybe the cheese balls are better? My wife and I both thought they were a little better here, but we haven't been to X-Fish in awhile. I think moving forward my wife and I will probably continue to go to the Buena Park location instead even though it's ~3 miles further since it's a little more lively. The Brea location is just as good though! read more

The is my favorite x-fish location because the wait time is always minimal. I also love that it's located in a cute plaza with other bars, bakeries, and a theater -- making it a perfect hangout location. I've visited this location multiple times now and have always had a good experience. The sushi is always fresh and the service is pretty quick. Came back again by myself this time during prime time on a friday night. They were extremely accommodating and let me sit at the bar so the wait was short. The servers were all nice. Again, i got the $55 option which includes omakase and all you can eat BLUE FIN TUNA. Thats not regular tuna, its a way higher quality. To me, that in itself makes $55 a steal. Coming back, i thought there might be a chance that it wouldn't be as fresh as the first time. Nope, just as fresh, just as good. This is the best ayce sushi in the 626 no debate. Came to X Fish Brea AYCE and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. After placing our order, the first round of food took about 30 minutes to arrive. Then another 30 minutes passed before the next items came out. For an AYCE restaurant, that kind of pacing really defeats the purpose. It felt like we were constantly waiting instead of enjoying the meal. The food itself was okay, but the long gaps between dishes made the overall experience frustrating. If the kitchen is backed up, it would help to communicate that upfront. We won't be coming back. ***Updating my review after last night. My daughter started having severe stomach pain and diarrhea later that night after eating here. She was up all night feeling sick. It was a very upsetting experience for our family. Wow! This is the best AYCE sushi place that I have been to in a long time. The restaurant was very clean and minimalist. Guests need to wait outside due to the small restaurant space. We ordered from the premium menu for dinner. Everything tasted so fresh and at the right temperature. The online order made it a little tricky to get food in a timely manner especially if the restaurant is full. Just be ready to wait. Finally decided to give this place a try on a Friday night around 8:30 pm. It's tucked in downtown Brea with plenty of parking so you don't have to worry. There's a parking structure nearby. I fear my expectations were a bit too high, considering the amount of hype it's gotten from social media. Given that it's ayce, the fish quality was just okay to me but I do enjoy the vast variety of other foods they serve like the ramen and udon and skewers - however we did only get one round of skewers the entire night. Also did not like how they close at midnight but last call was around 9:30 or 10:30 I forget. Service was a bit lacking as well, slow and had to keep flagging them down to fill my water and such. read more

From start to finish, my family's experience was horrible. We wanted to get up and leave once we were explained how the menu works from our waiter, whom was very unprofessional, and did not do great at explaining it to us.. It's an all you can eat exclusive sushi restaurant, which we did not know. If it's $40 per person at the minimum make that apparent!!! We just thought well, okay let's try it out. We should have left. A group of 5 people actually got sat down and we saw them leave after the waiter explained what they were getting into. There's a 90 minute limit to eat and out of that time it took an hour to get 3 pieces of nigiri. The food really wasn't worth it anyways. I've had better sushi, quality fish, and on top of that good customer service ELSEWHERE. Upon looking at other reviews it has apparently been noted that this place is disgusting! Dirty restroom, chipped plates, and disgusting floors. Not the place you want to eat from, i could only imagine the kitchen. The staff does not take accountability for the poor service, and when asked to speak with someone they were flustered and "called their boss".. to which never showed up, never was further addressed and we left unsatisfied and quite frankly still hungry. $175 for 4 people, do yourself a favor and save your money and time and don't go here. read more

They are always quite busy. You show up and you sign in on their guest registry and they will notify you when your table is ready. They do not take reservations.

their reservation isn't accurate, you can put yourself online first, and then, on Saturday I had to wait for an hour, luckily the main street in Brea seems to be colorful and worthy taking a stroke down the Birch street
