If I had to describe this place in two words, it would be missed potential. The food here was honestly amazing, but unfortunately, the service didn't quite live up to the quality of the food. If Yelp allowed half stars, I would give this place a 3.5/5, and I'll explain why. Starting with the food, I honestly have no complaints. The fish was incredibly fresh, and you could tell they weren't cutting corners when it came to quality. Everything we ordered from the sushi bar tasted great, and the rolls were a good size with generous portions. The fried food was also amazing, perfectly crispy and cooked well without feeling overly greasy. The ramen was another solid choice, and overall, the food was easily the highlight of our visit. Whoever is running the kitchen and sushi bar definitely knows what they're doing. Unfortunately, the service was a completely different story. This was our first time visiting, and from the moment we walked in, the experience felt a little underwhelming. We weren't greeted with much enthusiasm, nobody seemed to have a smile on their face, and there wasn't much effort to make us feel welcomed. Since this was our first visit, we weren't familiar with how everything worked, and nobody took the time to explain the ordering process. One thing I found a little strange was how the food was brought to our table. Whenever our sushi orders arrived, nobody explained which fish was which. They would bring the plates over, stand there looking at us, and wait for us to figure out where to make room. No "excuse me," no asking us to move a plate, or even a simple explanation of what they were serving. It was almost like we were supposed to read their minds. Another thing was the water situation. Our glasses weren't refilled unless we asked, and even then, we had to ask multiple times. I understand restaurants get busy, and I don't expect someone to constantly check on our table, but I feel like refilling water is one of the simplest parts of good service. What disappointed me the most was the overall lack of friendliness. There wasn't much conversation, no checking in to see how our food was, and honestly, no real sense of hospitality throughout our meal. Of course, once it was time for the bill and tip, the interaction suddenly felt a little more attentive. I'm honestly one of the easiest people to please when it comes to restaurants. I don't expect anything fancy, and a simple smile, friendly greeting, and decent service go a long way with me. I've only ever given five-star reviews on Yelp, so writing something less than five stars is a little difficult for me, especially when the food was this good. Overall, I think this restaurant has a lot of potential. The quality of the fish, the sushi, the fried food, and the ramen were all excellent, and I would gladly come back for the food alone. I feel like with a little more attention to customer service and hospitality, this place would easily be a five star experience. I'm also interested in trying their Buena Park location to see how the two compare. Great food deserves great service, and unfortunately, this visit only delivered on one of those.
This place is the place to go for quick and friendly service. Food is delicious and fresh. Good for large group because the atmosphere is loud.
I've heard many good things about this place and I understand why! We were luckily enough to come on a day that wasn't too crowded and got seared immediately. The chairs imo, were too high for the table, I felt like I was hovering over the food, idk if that makes sense but something I noticed immediately after sitting. The menu system is a bit confusing. There's a paper menu and one you place online via QR code. For the paper menu, we were limited to 20 pieces of nigiri at a time. This wasn't a huge deal since it was only 2 of us, but I can see how that can become frustrating with larger groups especially since there's only 3 rounds, unless the limit increases with group size. The online ordering system only allowed you to order 2 appetizers at a time. I love me some baked mussels and unfortunately 1 order = 1 baked mussels which means we were only able to order 2 mussels at a time and then have to wait until our 5 minute wait period is over before placing another order. This is the first sushi restaurant that I been to that had this small of a limit... They also limited you on the carpaccio order but that was expected. Aside from the menu and ordering frustration, I think their food and service is great. Their fish tasted very high quality and the fish to rice ratio was spot on! They had many different options of nigiri to try, so we definitely got to try a little of everything. There was only 1 item we didn't like and our server was kind enough to remove it from our bill. Overall it was a good place for high quality sushi. I just wish I wasn't so limited when placing orders since it is ayce and they already emphasis the leftover charge.
Sushi sushi sushi. Loved everything about this place - the service, the food, and the ambiance. Fish is fresh and price is very reasonable. We went here right when they opened on a Sunday and didn't have to wait for a table. Plenty of parking and near so many good places to walk to after eating all that sushi.
came first thing when they opened on a Saturday, it def was already pretty busy and they seemed short staffed. During our meal there was someone who i assumed was newer to the restaurant and the person training or teaching them was really loud and kind of rude pointing and touching all the tables trying to teach the new person the layout. I understand training but I don't think it was a good idea to do it in front of full tables of guests. or maybe have a map of the tables near the kitchen for them to review but training very very loudly and disturbing others guests just did not sit well. Besides that the food was great as always. I wish they did offer a less rice option but the portion isn't as much as other places. It's a very very busy location so i would recommend getting there a decent amount of time earlier than you'd want to eat.
Service was good and quick ~ never had to wait long to place new ayce rounds, arrived around 3pm on a Saturday for a party of 4 and no wait. Interior is really clean and nice decor. We did the $42 ayce standard and it was very good. Probably my favorite ayce sushi places. They have a huge menu of nigiri, carpaccio, appetizers, ramen, rolls with a handful of rice less rolls (we liked the Sakura roll). Sushi quality was great! Some items are limited to 2 pc per person like the carpaccio and those were some of our favorites. Unagi (eel) is limited in sushi form but you can get unlimited eel hand rolls.
Good quality for a reasonable price. Personal favorites are the mackerel and squid. The service was good and quick. Their sides of ginger was great for a palette cleanser.
Still my fav all you can eat sushi spot. Lunch deal is such a great deal. If you like salmon. Don't sleep on this spot. I hate when all the fish taste the same. But here the salmon is always nice and buttery. Great texture Salmon bomb I get regular salmon and peppered that has a slight sear Udon soup is really good here. Get the Nagasaki spicy udon. Flavor is so good. Little char flavor that I love. This is a must get Fried tempura shrimp is done well Always good food. Always great service. Plenty of parking

X-Fish has been on my list for quite awhile and finally it got to try it. We did the lunch signature $41.99 pp My friends have been raving at how affordable and delish the fish here is esp the toro but I had one order of it and I did not want another order off the menu at all. Only good tasting item was the Alaskan roll. Calamari Karaage is also a good appetizer. Items we tried during our visit: *Baked Mussel - came out on the cold side. Baked mussels is usually warm. *Alaskan Roll *Orion Draft *Grilled Chicken Teriyaki (Half Size) tastes like they used old oil or it's been in the deep freezer for awhile. *Albacore Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Yellowtail Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Baked Scallop Roll *Rainbow Roll - 1 - tasted normal. Walking into the establishment to put my name down it had a fishy smell. But I tried my best to just keep a positive outlook since I've had friends who rave about the place. But after the meal, I felt like I should've listened to my gut when I smelled how fishy it smelled. Restroom needed attention! Female toliet has no toilet seats and just needed to be cleaned up. I personally would not recommend this spot nor would I come back. I just felt very disappointed and like I wasted my money since it was not the best tasting. Sushi is delicious! Our favorite is smoked salmon, the giant scallops, yuzu yellowtail and Cajun tuna. We enjoyed everything but the tri peppered sushi, they were mildly flavored and underwhelming. The first two rounds of our order arrived quickly but the third time we had to get the servers attention to pick up the order sheet (I noticed another table had to do the same) staff passed by our table multiple times and didn't pick it up. This time the sushi took a long time to arrive, it pushed us to the 90 minute time limit. I appreciated one staff member coming by and giving grilled chicken skewer sample (very good!) The restaurant is round shaped and the acoustics inside is awful. It's very noisy and it's difficult to hear the staff. The chairs scrape on the floor. Also the table tops have water damage from the ice water glass condensations, coasters would help. The restrooms were ghetto. One of the women's sink was out of order, one of the stalls was out of toilet paper but the big roll was precariously hanging from the stall door hook and it fell and rolled on the floor. For the price I expected a better experience.
Tried this for dinner on a Thursday around 6 pm with a party of 2. We were seated right away, but heads up, they won't seat you until everyone in your party arrives. It's located in a big shopping center with Ralph's and Home Goods. I'd recommend parking in the open lots since it's much easier to find a spot than using the structure next to X-Fish. We went with the Omakase and spent about $60 each including tip. Food was good with a nice variety, including tonkotsu, sushi (of course), and a chicken BBQ skewer. The seafood quality was solid, although u had just gotten back from Japan, so it's hard not to compare. We wanted to try some of their wines, but they only sold it by the bottle, which was more than we wanted. Taking off 1 star because it was very loud inside. I think it's the way the space is built - everyone's voices seem to echo. Overall, good food and decent value, just not the best place if you're looking to have conversation over dinner.
It's almost $45 a person and it's supposedly renowned but call me picky it's just not worth the hype or cost. Wait times can be extensive due to the popularity. You're limited to 3 rounds (20 pieces each) of nigiri. You're also limited to 2 rolls and 2 appetizers or something absurd for the online menu and have to wait in between to order more. Quality of fish is ok compared to other places I've had, but for the cost it's nothing spectacular. Overall, it's better AYCE than other places I've been, but it's on the higher cost end for AYCE. The overall ambiance is nice and fancier. It's really clean inside and feels premium.

I am still dreaming about this sushi! This place was so good and I love that they don't overload the rice. My favorite piece was the tri-peppered salmon. It was so soft and buttery. For each round, you can order 10 pieces per person. For the higher quality pieces, like jumbo scallop, you can get 2 pieces per person. The place is cramped so you're not allowed to bring a stroller in, but you can bring a car seat in. We came around 730pm on a Friday night and it was a hour wait. We just ended up walking around the world mart. Best to come during lunch time when there's less people. 1000% will come back here next time I'm in LA. read more

X-Fish Izakaya is an ayce sushi restaurant located in downtown Brea with a location in Buena Park as well. They went viral on tiktok, especially for their lunch special menu. The store itself is very clean and minimalistic. The service is fast and Andrew was great. The Food We got the lunch menu for $28 which gives you access to 3 rounds of 10 pieces of nigiri per person. I hadn't had sushi in a while, so when my partner suggested AYCE, I didn't hesitate for a second--I said, "Let's go to X-Fish." I had only been once before and couldn't remember all the details, but I did remember thinking, "This might be one of the best AYCE sushi spots in SoCal." So this second visit was to confirm just that--and it absolutely did not disappoint. We went with the omakase selection that's included with the AYCE menu, and wow--everything was fresh, well-crafted, and satisfying from start to finish. Halfway through the meal, I realized why I didn't recall every detail from my first visit: I had nothing negative to say. I wasn't busy analyzing or critiquing--I was simply enjoying good food, in a great atmosphere, with attentive service. For a little while, you forget everything going on outside. The only thing that matters is what's in front of you: excellent quality sushi, friendly staff, and a vibe that makes you want to stay longer. An all-you-can-eat sushi experience, omakase, and an izakaya setting, all under one roof? That's exactly what X-Fish Izakaya delivers! Located in Downtown Brea with plenty of free parking, the restaurant offers a warm, contemporary ambiance that makes for a great gathering spot. Make sure to arrive early during peak hours because the waiting list does fill up fast! My party and I all ordered the $55 omakase which includes everything from their AYCE signature menu, along with 9 pieces of chef's choice sushi. The food we had all tasted fresh and delicious, and the chef's choice sushi included some great selections. However, as fresh as the fish tasted, I ended up having some painful stomachaches following the rest of the evening. Also, I was expecting to try more items from the Pass Around Menu, which featured 3 different kinds of yakitori, but only one dish was passed around once during our 90 minute dining time. I know the menu says it's available until the product runs out, but it was only around 6pm. Service was decent; the waiters came around to refill our water and take our orders, while the kitchen worked quickly to get our orders in. They do enforce the 90 minute allotted time pretty strictly, and ended up telling us we had to leave soon after we paid the bill. I totally understand it was the dinner rush, but ending the experience with getting rushed out, followed by an evening of stomachaches just wasn't the best way to end the night. read more

This sushi spot was very good with fresh, high-quality fish, and I really appreciated that they use a lighter amount of rice, letting the fish shine. The service was great overall, everything came out fast when we arrived before the rush hour. Once it got busy, the service did slow down a bit, but that's totally normal during peak times. I really wanted to like XFish in Brea because the food itself is great -- fresh, good-quality fish, and overall solid flavors. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow, and that overshadowed the experience for me. I've been to plenty of AYCE sushi spots like Aburi and Sake2Me, and even when they're busy, food still comes out at a reasonable pace. That wasn't the case here. Even with some empty tables, the wait times were surprisingly long. We sat down at 5:49 PM, filled out our order sheet, and it was picked up at 5:55 PM. We got edamame first, then a few appetizers around 6:26 PM, but no sushi until 6:29 PM. That's about a 30-minute wait just for the FIRST round of sushi, which felt excessive for AYCE. Appetizers trickled out, but the sushi took forever. They also walked around offering free yakitori, which honestly felt like a way to keep customers occupied because of how long the sushi was taking. Bottom line: XFish has great food, but the service is so slow that I'm not sure it's worth the ~$40 price when other AYCE spots are just as good and manage to keep food coming out in a timely manner. Until the pacing improves, I'd probably stick to other places. read more

My family and I come here at least once a month and we really enjoy this location over the Buena Park. My daughter especially loves the wagmi roll and their yakitori. I wish they had wagmi nigiri! They advertise themselves as a sushi and yakitori restaurant but we actually didn't get any the past four times but today we finally got to have some. They just give it out as they cook it. They had some complaints about their salmon roe nigiri being salty even though it's supposed to be. So they made it taste very sake-like last time but it was much better today normal tasting but less salty. I definitely enjoyed this AYCE sushi spot at X-Fish Izakaya! The sushi rolls were pretty good. We always like getting the no rice rolls so that we can fit in more food and other options. The dish that surprised us the most was the udon. So much flavor and the noodles were made perfectly! The best part of this place is their AYCE menu selection. So much variety! This restaurant gets pretty packed and busy. There's a huge wait outside especially during lunch and dinner times. The AYCE pricing is a bit pricey though. About $39.99 per person for the Signature option. That's definitely rough on the wallet (haha). I do want to try their Omakase one day! And As Always, NOM 4 LIFE! read more

I can see why this spot has so many 5 star reviews. The quality isn't insane but it's surprisingly pretty damn good that it exceeded my expectations and was well worth the top tier $55 pricing. For $55 you get a lil omakase of 8pc nigiri and like a poke thing. You also get practically unlimited nigiri, rolls, and many more things. The quality of the hamachi kama was mind blowing... I've had this dish so many times at many casual sushi restaurants and this was one of the best. The shrimp tempura was also notably fresh tho prob not the best shrimp. Most places just got the hot apps and rolls but these guys take it to another level....udons and ramens!! Technically yes you prob wanna provide that stuff cause it's way cheaper than fish but they give you a bowl fit for 1-2 people instead of a standard portion which is nice. We came here on a weekday for dinner. It took a bit of time for us to get seated. Ordering was fairly easy using the tablet. The food was brought out quickly sometimes and longer other times, so it was a bit inconsistent. They were extremely strict about the time limit which I understand, but with the inconsistency of bringing out the food after the order, I wish they would have at least notified us of last call. The food was mostly good, there were some sushi that were torched and had the butane smell and taste. Coming in to X-Fish, I was very skeptical. Even though we came in at 4pm, I was expecting the place to be at least half full given the buzz on social media and all of the reviews talking about having to wait after their reservation time. Luckily, the food was amaaaazing. I think the signature menu is a good value. The fish tastes clean, the signature items are tasty, and even the ramen is good for an ayce place. Many times when I've dined at a restaurant during their expected slow times, the server usually sucks. Jaden was our server and made our experience seem anything less than a slow Thursday mid shift. They are always quite busy. You show up and you sign in on their guest registry and they will notify you when your table is ready. They do not take reservations.

How long is the typical wait time at 7pm on Fridays with no reservation? I was only able to get a 10pm reservation
their reservation isn't accurate, you can put yourself online first, and then, on Saturday I had to wait for an hour, luckily the main street in Brea seems to be colorful and worthy taking a stroke down the Birch street
