In response to the owner: Maintaining a health inspection score of 'A' means nothing to me. The health inspector is not on site 24/7 monitoring your restaurant's food handling practices. I've worked at restaurants before that had plenty of issues in between health inspections and still managed to get an 'A' the day of inspection (i no longer work at those restaurants nor would i ever dine there). It's funny, you offered no apology for the fact that my boyfriend and I DID get sick from eating at your restaurant (this was actually the only place we ate out at the entire week so that narrows it down a bit), and it actually seems like you're insinuating it wouldn't be possible for people to get sick from eating at your restaurant ... I really hope others see this review/response and choose not to dine here ... or you can take the risk - eat here, get very very sick, have to cancel all your plans for the week including plans that you've had planned for months and are non-refundable, and then have the owner essentially gaslight you into thinking it'd be impossible to get sick from a restaurant with an 'A' health inspection score. read more

Visited X-Fish's second location in Downtown Brea, and the consistency was both the highlight and the lowlight lol The highlight, the food was consistent to what I experienced at their original Buena Park location. The servers are being shared between both locations as well, I immediately recognized several servers upon walking in from their BP location. The lowlights, the speed of food being served was just as slow as the BP location. I was hoping that with the Brea location being much smaller, the service would be quicker. Common sense of smaller square footage, smaller seating capacity, equals quicker output of menu items however somehow, they were just as slow as BP. The ambience was much better in my opinion than BP, it did not feel like I was trying to scarf sushi in a nightclub lol. Overall, for those that are closer to the Brea area, there is no reason for you to make the trek to the BP location. You are getting apples to apples. Also little side bonus, you can stroll the shops in Downtown Brea while you wait, and also because you're surrounded by other restaurants you can even grab a drink elsewhere (like at Cha Cha's) while waiting! read more

Love having the option to join the Yelp waiting list. It's easy and quick! Went on a Saturday and after sitting down, we were asked which "AYCE" option we wanted to do. On the weekends you only have 2 options, Signature AYCE and Omakase AYCE. We chose Signature AYCE and were given a sushi form with 3 rounds and a QR code to order hot kitchen items, rolls, drinks, etc. We didn't know this prior to ordering, but when ordering on the QR code, you're only allowed to order every 5mins. and on the sushi form you're only allowed 10 pieces of sushi per person, per round and one order of sushi is one piece, not two. Based off of these restrictions, I would not technically consider this place as all you can eat. As far as ambiance, the restaurant can get pretty loud and hard to hear people at your table and your server. Now the food was decent, but I've had better. My least favorite sushi was the tuna and my favorite was the yuzu yellowtail and bluefin tuna. read more

We came in for lunch on their first day of opening. It was chaos at first and everybody seemed awfully confused. It took a good 15 minutes for a server to finally start to serve us at the counter seating. But the service picked up nicely later on and everybody was very friendly. Also some hiccups with their mobile phone ordering system. Some of our orders couldn't go through. I was glad a server helped us with the issue, and he was quite helpful and fast. We chose Omakase option and the raw was very fresh. I was glad that the nigiri was smaller than usual. Also the rice and fish ratio were very good. The pass around chicken skewers were so yum. Hubby really liked ramen and my favorite was salmon skin hand roll. We shared a bottle of Kubota sake and I had a draft Asahi as well. The green tea was surprisingly good. It was my first time at X fish izakaya and it certainly won't be my last. Our server Daniel answered a lot of our questions. During lunch they have an AYCE special for $29 or you can upgrade to the Omokase level at $55. I definitely think it's worth it. You get an order of the chefs finest cuts of sushi and a lot more to choose from. The service was fast and friendly. You order the nigiri sushi using the paper order sheet. The rolls, hot food, and drinks are ordered through your phone with the QR code they give you. The black garlic ramen was awesome. We also picked up the garlic albacore roll and the X fish specialty roll. Free parking is available just steps away from the restaurant. It's got some beautiful decor and plenty of open space for big parties. Overall great experience and can't wait to go back! Reservations are highly recommended. read more

Went here for my bd celebration and since I have heard so many good things about this place I have decided to give it a try. We went for the Omakase option which is $55 per person. Fish quality isn't too bad but definitely not the best that I have had. They have really good udon in my opinion but that really fill you up. Compared to another AYCE sushi place I would give this place a 7/10 as I feel like they are not any different from others and it is quite pricy for the quality. I would go again when I'm craving for sushi but probably go for a cheaper option as there's not much differences between the two tiers. read more

So, I was excited to try this location for my friend's birthday, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The service was excellent--our server was attentive and friendly--but the food did not live up to expectations. We opted for the $55 Omakase set, and while the chef's choice plate was okay, it didn't feature any special fish except for a very tiny, pea-sized piece of uni. At that point, I'm not sure if the Omakase upgrade is worth it. The freshness of the fish was lacking this time around. The unagi, which should be crispy, was completely cold and soggy, to the point where it turned into mush when you put it in your mouth. We also ordered the bluefish tuna. The first round was authentic bluefish tuna, but the second round was just regular tuna. By that time, we didn't want to ask for clarification since we were already disappointed. We also tried their regular salmon and the "special X-Fish" salmon. When the plates arrived, the two types of salmon were identical--the only difference was that the "special X-Fish" salmon had a sprinkle of bonito flakes. I don't understand why a "special" item is needed for just a small garnish. Finally, almost every piece of fish was drenched in sauce. If you've ever been to Japan, you know that high-quality fish doesn't need to be smothered in sauce to be enjoyable. Another disappointment was that, unlike the Buena Park location, this one didn't offer any ice cream or dessert. This place is a solid 4/5. Food itself is decent for an all you can eat place! The nigiri has a nice big piece of fish and small rice. The rolls are also pretty good! and you can choose options like udon or ramen or hand rolls! Service itself is quite slow. You don't get an assigned waiter, no one comes to check up on you. If you need something you need to flag them down. We had to ask 3 different people for bowls for them to tell us they had no clean ones and would bring us some asap (surprise they never did). 4 stars for the slow service, and they used to have appetizers like gyoza and tempura- they removed them all. They also advertise coming around with all you can eat izakaya skewers as they are available. Of the 4 times I've been here, I've only ever seen someone walk around once and for one skewer. I visited the Buena Park location and wanted to try the brea one to see how it compared - quality wise very good! Both are about the same. I would say fish is pretty good for the price you are paying/ for AYCE. Service- some of the things we ordered came out kind of slow but overall food came out quickly. A number of things we ordered were never brought out and we had to ask for them but waiters were attentive. I will say we did not have this issue at the Buena Park location but they seemed more heavily staffed. Ambiance - the wait was longer since we had a table of 5 and they only have a few large tables. Let's start by saying that we seemed to be on the waitlist at third for quite sometime before we finally got a table (40-60 minutes later). After we were seated the paper order of nigiri and online order of tempura, udon, and kiss me and kiss you rolls were brought to the table within 15 minutes. We placed a second order of rolls with two drinks next, and somehow the order for the rolls were not received, but our drinks from that order was. After waiting 20ish minutes, we inquired about the order and the wait staff checked and told us to place the order again. The next round of nigiri didn't take too long to come out, but again the rolls were another 15-20 minutes later... the service was quite slow to be frank. The sushi did taste great, with orders of tri-peppered salmon, salmon, bay scallops, and yellowtail nigiri on numerous rounds. I had the Alaskan Roll and the Salmon lover rolls and I would say they were ok. The Salmon Lover was the better of the two, but nothing that stood out. I believe someone ordered the X Fish Craft Red ramen. It looked pretty good, but I didn't try it to review it. In short, the food tasted pretty good, but service was slow. I made a reservation through Yelp for a Friday. I was scared they wouldn't honor the reservation because, in previous reviews, other Yelpers have stated that the restaurant doesn't take weekend reservations. However, that was different for my party, and we were seated right away at 6PM on a Friday! It was not busy when we arrived so you could get away without a reservation. The wait did start picking up ~7PM, though. We opted for the Signature menu, but we debated choosing the Omakase menu. The Omakase menu includes the chef choice set and everything included in the Signature menu. For the price, it was pretty worth it! The signature is already so extensive that going for the Omakase menu wasn't necessary. We started with a physical menu and a QR code to order appetizers, cooked rolls, other small bites, AND EVEN RAMEN AND UDON? We decided to fill ourselves up with nigiri instead and skipped out on the heavier noodle dishes. The nigiri was excellent -- the fish-to-rice ratio was insane. That's how it should be at every sushi spot. The nigiri was on the smaller side, which is not a problem with me because I got to eat and try more! Everything was high quality. My very minor gripe with this place is the music is a little loud -- I asked my boyfriend what rolls he'd like me to order, he said "I ordered the alaskan roll" but I misheard him and thought he said he wanted to order the alaskan roll, and we ended up mistakenly getting the alaskan roll twice LOL. We flagged down a server to try to cancel the second alaskan roll order but they said couldn't do it. We ended up being incredibly full from eating twice the intended number of rolls. I used to come here regularly but the quality of the fish and service have definitely gone downhill. Last time we came with friends from out of town and we spoke very highly of the place. But the service was so slow and the quality of fish wasn't as great. I asked to speak to a manager, only to be told there wasn't one available and that nothing could be done about it. To top it off, I still had to pay the full $118 for what was already below-average sushi made worse by the surprise crabs. It's incredibly disappointing Finding unexpected crabs in your food is a clear sign that it's neither clean nor properly prepared.
