Heard great things about X-Fish and finally had a chance to try it. I came with some friends on a Friday night around 8:00 PM and waited about 45 minutes. It's in downtown brea and there's a parking structure close by but I just parked in the home goods plaza and walked over. I like how they close later at 12:00 AM and love the look/atmosphere inside. You can join the waitlist on Yelp to save some time. Their regular/signature menu is $39.99. We got the Omakase menu, which is $55 and the last call is 9:30 PM. The price for omakase is totally worth it! Everything was really good and it's only $15 more plus you get everything on the regular menu. The only items we didn't like was the carpaccio - there was something off about it, maybe too much sauce? We also added fresh wasabi which was $4.50 extra. My only complaint was the customer service. No one checked in on us, one of the workers (not our server) was cold and not welcoming. However, overall the quality of the food was really good and pricing was worth it! read more

I've always wanted to try out X-Fish since the pictures looked really good! We visited here on a holiday evening and it was already quite busy around 6pm. We arrived early before our reservation time and we were told that they were understaffed that day that we had to wait until our reservation time to be seated... Once we did get seated, I did like how minimalistic the restaurant was! The interior was very clean and sleek, and the a/c was blasting, so make sure to bring a jacket haha. We decided to just go with the signature AYCE . It did take awhile to receive our orders, but for some reason, it felt like the waiter kept giving our order to the next table... For instance, first thing we ordered beer, and it went to the table next to us. The other table didn't realize it wasn't for them (they just accepted it lol) until we asked for it when they said that they didn't order the beer... Another was when we ordered hand rolls, it seemed like it went to that table again since we never gotten it, and they already just ate it. It was definitely very odd. Aside from this, our waitress was very kind, but unfortunate why some of our food gets delivered to another table. As for the quality of the fish, I would say they're pretty decent. My favorites were the Katsuo X Fish Salmon and the Bluefin Tuna. The Katsuo X Fish Salmon was very fragrant! The Bluefin Tuna also tasted pretty high quality, so it made it more enjoyable. As for the rest of the nigiri pieces, I felt that they were just pretty standard. They slices are kind of thin, and not that thick as I liked it to be. At least the rice ratio was reasonable; however, from a restaurant like this and paying for this price for AYCE, we definitely expected the quality to be amazing. The quality is about the same as many AYCE sushi restaurant these days and it didn't taste that special. The appetizer selection was also very mid. Before we get into the restaurant, there is plenty of parking at this location so I think that is a very huge plus. Every dish I ate was tasty, the fatty tuna, the carpaccio, bay scallops. Extremely disappointed in the service at X-Fish Izakaya in Brea especially from Andy and Oscar. My party and I came in expecting a great experience based on the 4.4-star rating, but what we got was far from it. Our plates were dirty from previous dishes, so we stacked them neatly and asked for new ones. To our surprise, Andy flat-out told us they didn't have any more plates and that plates are reserved for new customers only. What? We were already seated, mid-meal, and you're telling us we can't have clean plates because we're not new anymore? That logic makes absolutely no sense. When we explained that we had already stacked our dirty plates, Andy responded by blaming us for doing so, saying we shouldn't have stacked them in the first place. Instead of offering any kind of solution, he just took the plates and walked off, no apology, no alternatives, nothing. The way he handled it came off as dismissive and unhelpful, which only added to our frustration. We went to the front and spoke with Oscar, hoping for a better response, but unfortunately, he repeated the same excuse, that they were short on plates and couldn't give us any. No accountability, no attempt to make it right. We had to ask another server just to bring us sauce plates so we use as plates and continue eating. Not once were we offered any kind of alternative, not even the sushi plates or the bowls they use for miso soup. For a restaurant boasting a 4.4-star rating, this kind of behavior is unacceptable. The way Andy dismissed us with a smug attitude was a complete joke, that's not hospitality, that's neglect. And on a side note, the sushi was just so-so. The salmon and yellowtail were the only fishes that stood out. The sushi with roe and masago were salty. The appetizers were tiny portions, not worth the price, and overall didn't leave a good impression. To make matters worse, the A/C inside was awful, it was hot and humid, like the place was being cooled by a weak fan. With how packed the restaurant was, it should've been comfortably cool, instead, it felt stuffy and uncomfortable the entire time. Even the bathroom was unpleasant. The paper towels smelled terrible, so bad they made our hands smell worse after drying them. Seriously, how is that even possible? We came in excited to try something new, but sadly, between the poor service, underwhelming food, lack of basic hospitality, and uncomfortable environment, we won't be coming back. I have been touring LA OC for the best AYCE sushi experience. X-fish has by far the best interior and ambiance. The bar is perfectly lit, clean, and well spaced out so you're not rubbing shoulders with other patrons. Fish to rice ratio is fantastic. The quality is good not the best I've had at AYCE but still high quality. The bluefin was disappointing compared to other AYCE but wow that salmon quality was perfect--it had my girlfriend who usually isn't a fan of salmon nigiri become the #1 salmon enjoyer of the night. Their unlimited sides are fantastic--usually I don't order filler dishes but I was starving and the calamari was perfect to satiate me until the main event. Hand rolls were pumped out quickly and that eel hand roll I will dream about. I was a HUGE fan of the fact they come around with free yakitori sticks (that pork belly was juicy and tender). Went for lunch with my family and we all loved it! My mom doesn't typically eat raw fish but still really enjoyed the noodle dishes and cooked rolls. Unfortunately the lunch menu doesn't have too much else that's cooked but we saw that the signature menu included appetizers and more cooked dishes she probably would've enjoyed more. At the discounted price though she was satisfied. The yakitori "pass around menu" unfortunately only came around once while we were there so we only got to try the chicken skewer which was well seasoned but lukewarm at best - would've enjoyed it more if it had been hot and came around even once more during our time there! Some highlights from our meal: - small portions of rice for most of the nigiri made this place standout for us compared to other AYCE restaurants - butter pepper shrimp was super yummy and cooked so my mom could enjoy it as well - fish was super fresh and all tasted good - we had 1 bad piece of squid but everything else tasted fresh (note though that the scallop nigiri is a spicy scallop which I wish they had specified as I don't enjoy the sauce but my sister loved) - spicy nagasaki udon has some seafood and had a super comforting broth that was perfect for the cooler weather! It was our favorite out of the noodles we tried (we had also gotten the tonkotsu ramen and another one of the udons) Overall, a nice spot that I'm glad I took my family to try. The ambience is nice and modern but can get a bit loud. Sushi was good and worth the lunch price. The rice ratio was maybe half of my thumb and they seasoned the rice very well that you'd enjoy just eating the rice. To break down the menu, I got the Signature AYCE ($39.99). Let me just say their bluefin tuna... BOMB literally fatty part of tuna but melts in your mouth without the fattiness being too overwhelming. Overall the quality of all fish was fresh. Also, you know a place has good quality food if they know how to make their appetizer in high quality. Take a look at the veggie tempura.. look how thin the coating is! All the apps I got doesn't taste like you would get it at AYCE. Think of this AYCE sushi place as a higher end that's perfect for the price. I'm definitely coming back to this place again as my go-to AYCE sushi place. One take back though... they do have skewers that gets "passed around" meaning there's a server that will bring a plate and pass it around and you can only get 1 skewer per person. It's a bummer bc the skewers are so good! I got the chicken skin and the chicken with green onion. The chicken skin was with sauce but let me tell you.. it was still crispy and worth the wait. I was getting antsy bc the skewers would run out by the time it got to my table:( I did bring it up to one waiter but he just brushed it off but ended up telling another waiter, Jaden, and I know he definitely told other servers to bring it to the tables around me. I've been craving for X-Fish for a while now. Last night, I figured it was time for have myself dinner at X-Fish in Downtown Brea. It's an upper-scale sushi joint which offers AYCE which I preferred getting if I'm hungry enough to get this. For dinner, I opted for the signature option which is $39.99. And just so you know, they charge for leftovers... so be careful ordering more than you can eat. My first round, I got sake salmon, ebi shrimp, ikura salmon roe, lobster rolls, philly rolls, and the best item here..... bluefin tuna. Gotta love anything that's bluefin. So delightful and delicious. The only thing is for the bluefin tuna is there's a one order limit per person for that. All other items are super good. Second round... maguro tuna, cajun tuna, latsuo x fish salmon, alaskan rolls, and I forgot what's the name of the last rolls I've ordered. Also all good. Service here was great. Other things, they also offer udon, ramen, appetizer, izakaya, tempura, etc. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try all those things as I was nearly full and I didn't want to risk being charged for leftovers if I didn't finish all the orders. A few friends and I went to X-fish the other day and it was alright. We ordered the omakase and was a little disappointed at the quality. The bluefin tuna was really good. The Wagyu was alright, but the uni was super bad. It tasted super fishy and off. Maybe cause we eat uni a lot, but it's suppose to be buttery and sweet. I love the shrimp and tobiko, those two are the main things I like since I'm not the biggest raw fish person. Quality of those were good! But I don't recommend the pepper and butter one, that one is just weird. I did order a lot of appetizers too, I did like the takoyaki a lot. But anything else that was fried was so so. We were able to walk in around 6:30pm on a weekday and get seated right away but noticed it gradually got busier after 7pm. We got the Signature menu which allowed 10 pcs nigiri per person per round (3 total) along with other speciality items limited to 1 order per person. It did take a minute for someone to collect our menus but the servers were nice and efficient. They provided a QR code for AYCE cooked items such as udon, ramen, or tempura, sushi rolls (including riceless rolls which was a plus!), and drinks which were an additional charge. The rice-to-fish ratio was perfect especially for an AYCE spot but if I'm being picky, the fish was sometimes a little lukewarm. However, everything was still pretty tasty and there was a good variety of items to choose from (great for large groups if you want to try everything).
