Wylde Works was a surprise visit in SB. Walking on State street and I saw that Wylde Works had mead. I took another lap on State before finally deciding to double back and grab a mead instead of a beer. They only had their original on draft and of course, I tried it. The mead was light and airy and then the space was filled with piano music. While I was sitting at the bar, enjoying my mead a local had turned up and started playing the piano. I was enjoying myself so much that I stayed for another round. It's definitely worth a visit: good drinks, and friendly locals. A welcome spot of tranquility. read more

Wylde Works is CLOSED. It'll reopen with a new owner and a new name ("Union") soon. I'll miss its funky, casual (maybe TOO casual for its own good ) ambiance. Good Service and great vibe! We went on a Saturday night and wanted to grab a few drinks before dinner. I tried an Espresso Martini, my sister-in law had a latte, my niece had a hard kombucha and sister got a beer. Got lucky and was able to enjoy live band on a Saturday evening. I love this magical oasis with a passion forever and a day. I am not kidding, no hype: for me, this is the best alcohol I have ever had. Period. However--I must concede I love hard kombucha, and honey... so naturally their mead and hard kombuchas appeal to me. Their drinks are simply of absurd quality, second to none. If kombucha or mead is not your thing, they have beer on draft, and many, many other offerings, including food, coffee, matcha, yerba mate, etc. The bartenders/staff are very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They don't serve food but they have great hard kombucha and mead. I recommend the Elderberry Hibiscus kombucha it's killer! Fun atmosphere! We happened to pop in on open mic night, and people watching was amusing all on its own. The Jun hard kombucha was tasty, specifically the ginger turmeric and hibiscus. The beer style mead was not for us, though not cloying and sweet like mead can be, and a great alternative for beer drinkers. Wylde Works has quickly become my favorite place to be on a Tuesday night. Tuesday nights at Wylde Works is open mic night, and the talented residents of Santa Barbara really show out for this evening. Not only are the performances great, but the staff that works here is so friendly and inviting. It feels like you are at a warehouse party with both close friends and new faces. The energy here is contagious, lots of regulars who know each other and encourage each other through the night. There are plenty of other live music events here as well, they have a schedule both on their website and Instagram. I have seen a few live bands perform here and I am amazed everytime. This is a great place in town for quality live music. The drinks here are good too, they specialize in drinks made with fermented honey. They have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic Kombucha, a mead style beer, and a delicious local Syrah. Side note: someone told me a Rabbis in the Santa Ynez Valley creates this wine, which leads me to believe it is blessed! Look forward to frequenting Wylde Works, and if you are looking for an inviting place to enjoy live music and good drinks I would recommend you frequent this spot too! read more

This place rocks on the weekends! It's located on the 600 block of State Street so it's right in the heart of things. I've been there twice to see live local bands and it's super fun. I can't say it's set up perfectly for live music - the bands play on the left side of the space... which makes it a bit awkward to get to the bar if it's crowded. The crowd is popular with the 20-somethings (they all seem to be followers of the bands). Wylde Works serves alcohol, but it's "mead" made from local wildflower honey and hops (6.5% ABV) which still packs a punch. I tried a sip of my friend's Special Dark Honeycraft mead, which was tasty. They also have a "cocktail menu" featuring their honey spirits - prices are $12-14. They sound good but I have yet to try one - I will write an updated review when I do! They also have a couple of food items if you are hungry - the night I went, they offered Jerk Pork and Jerk Chicken plates for $17. They are also right next door to Night Lizard Brewing Company if you fancy a quick beer between sets when listening to the bands. This was my first ever mead experience, and though I am still trying to decide where mead falls in my list of casual drinks, I did enjoy my experience at Wylde Works. From what I learned from the bartenders, their boss (owner of the meadery) also owes a honey farm, thus, the perfect opportunity to make mead. They have a few standard meads, a couple of meads that are made more similar to beer, and then kombuchas. The bar itself looks like it could use some work, to be honest. It is a little small and when it is full, it can actually be pretty hard to pinpoint where exactly the bar is. The bartenders were super useful in telling us about how mead is made and how the profiles differed between the different meads they have. We got their flight where we tried two of their standard meads, their stout-like beer mead, and then their rose kombucha. I personally enjoyed all of the drinks. To me, mead just tastes like fermented honey water. If I had a sore throat I would love to drink some hot mead. The interior is kind of rustic with couch seating areas as well as tables and chairs. There is also outdoor seating along state street. On Saturday night there was a live musician and he was great, really added a lot to the vibe of the place. It seems like they are new and still sorting out their exact interior design, but overall, I really enjoyed my experience. read more

This was my first experience in a beer and kombucha bar, loved being able to taste everything in a flight. I have been to several mead breweries back in TX, so i had to try this because they use a lot of local honey. Turns out they use most everything local in their products, i even met the brewer who was able to give me the background on what i was tasting,, I left with a 16oz 4 pack of the "Sun Water" Kombucha, it was Hibiscus and Elderberry,, and its already gone! If you are ever going through Santa Barbara and get a chance to hit State Street,, you will love it. My boyfriend and I rarely drink but we were drawn in by the comforting atmosphere! It just felt like the place to be! Jacklyn was very helpful in explaining the history of the company and the mead! I ordered the green drink and it was absolutely delicious!!! My boyfriend and I were practically fighting over the last drop! The drink was refreshing and was the perfect sidekick to a hot day!! We enjoyed our drink on the warm outside patio while the farmers market was going on, truly a beautiful day.
