    The five beers we tasted
    Aaron M.

Came here in a large group for a beer tasting. We had a mild sour, a Pilsner, a lager, and two hoppy beers. All were pretty light. Most of the people in my group liked one of the hoppy ones which they called blue, but my favorite was the mild sour called the calypso.

Good tunes and perfect flight for a post-soccer/pickleball workout. Ondas - nice dry finish on an amber Mexican lager Chisme - very light and refreshing Mexican lager Red Setter - smooth finish and a little smoky Calypso- cucumber flavor is strong and very sour (Great American Brew Fest silver medal in 2022) Soda Shoppe - less sour but more fruity than calypso

Visiting from FL.... It is rainy here. Grateful for a hazy IPA rainy day pour for $5. Excellent gender neutral accessible bathrooms.

We went to Captain Fatty's for the first time on Cinco De Mayo. It was a great place and the micheladas we had were so good. The sign said there would be a food truck but there wasn't one when we were there. Definitely liked the vibe and any place that has tabletop shuffle board is okey dokey in my book. Great beer selection to choose from.

Stopped in for a beer with a buddy and ended up at Captain Fatty's 9 year anniversary party. They had several food vendors on site and pouring the same great Captain Fatty's beer! They had a couple specialty beers on tap as well, including a Horchata lager. The staff was definitely busy but they did an awesome job serving the customers in a timely fashion!

Very fun! Met a group of friends for trivia, and had a blast! Nice indoor space, and service is fine! Some friends ordered pizza, which was good, and the beer was great. Will definitely go again for more trivia nights. We were there last weekend and unfortunately there was a whole wedding party there. It obviously wasn't the staff's fault, but i did mean we didn't have access to a large majority of the indoor space, and we had to wait over an hour for a pizza (i feel quite bad for the food staff who had to out of nowhere basically cater a wedding! Crazy!) but on regular nights, all is well.

It's true that sometimes we forget about the businesses literally right in our backyard. I live within five minutes of Captain Fatty's Brewery, yet had not been back in roughy 4 years. Why?! Well, I'm not a beer drinker. When my sister and her friend were planning to grab the pop-up Santa Barbara Woodfire Pizza for dinner, I tagged along...and am so glad I did! Captain Fatty's has a wonderful space and is a popular locals space within an industrial warehouse off the 101 in Goleta. Stepping inside, you truly wouldn't know what you're missing out on. You're immediately transported into our attempt at a Portlandia hipster vibe. Hanging vines and exposed filament string light bulbs, barrels of fermenting beer, neon signs and two separate outdoor patios with heat lamps. Of course they have a wide selection of beers on taps (sours, ambers, lagers, IPA, pilsner, you name it!), but for us non-beer drinkers they had a seltzer and grisette (new to me but is botanical sage and meyer lemon aged for six months in gamay barrels! How unique!). Both were delectable and paired perfectly with the pizza. I truly love that they collaborate not only with local businesses for food trucks/pop-ups, creative beverages (i.e. neighboring Samsara for their sour) and local musicians. So as they say, bring your friends, furry friends and kids here to "Anchor Down!"

    Great beer

The Goleta taproom is a hidden gem for locals to hangout just off the 101 freeway. Nice indoor and outdoor seating with good service. Excellent selection of craft beer and in addition to lager and IPAs they also had Schwarzbier and a Barleywine beer. I love stronger ales and I jump at the chance to get a Barleywine beer which are kind of rare. The Heavy Gravity did not disappoint with excellent flavors that intensify with every sip. Will be back for more!

If you haven't tried Captain Fatty's then you simply must check it out! If you are a beer fan then you are in for a treat and they have some good eats too! This week my girlfriend Imo and I got to see some of our favorite people since they live in Maryland and were visiting for the weekend! We had a great time catching up and seeing friends as well as soaking in the amazing place that is Captain Fatty's. Captain Fatty's is a little tucked away in the business center they are located in and that makes it feel even more of a hidden gem. The inside was decorated for St. Patrick's already with shamrocks everywhere and whoever was on aux.... excellent choices were being played! If you are a beer person, then they have a lot of great choices to sample and enjoy. I am a fan of their porters and stouts normally, but this time I went with a Calypso Cucumber Sour and really enjoyed the flavor! They also have some good eats like pizza that you can get in house which always pairs well with a great choice in beer. If you are not a fan of beer, they also have wine and seltzer options as well! If you are gonna check it out, parking can be a challenge sometimes so definitely try to carpool or even Lyft/Uber to enjoy more of their options! They also have indoor and outdoor seating as well. Overall loved our outing to Captain Fatty's and will definitely have to come more often to enjoy the amazing service from the staff and great hangout with friends.

I found this little Diamond by happenstance. I was recently visiting a business in the same plaza and boy am I glad to have gotten a two for one find! You will not be disappointed on your next stop in. Tucked into a quiet plaza in Goleta, you'll find this brewery. You'll enter via fun foyer to find the spacious brewery behind. They primarily carry IPAs and other light beers. The owner helped us and he was amazing. He gave us several tasters and walked us through his products. My husband prefers more light or fruit beers than I do and he felt this was a good find for such. The beers also had a nice finish and were very easy to drink. The atmosphere was good, very hang in your adult 30s with friends vibe. They also have food! They offer pizzas in the back where you can access outside seating. As well as they offer local and brought in fresh daily burritos. So, you can make a day or night out of your visit. See website for hours, location and more. There is plenty of parking in the plazas.

Cute brewery with plenty of beer options, along with a few seltzers. Everything was good. 4 stars as the outdoor seating is a bit dated and upkeep is needed. Friendly staff. Not a lot of parking options.

There was a very small bar/lounge area tucked away in this industrial building, Michael the owner warmly greeted our group of three and made us some cocktails with his handcrafted spirits. Proudly displayed along the walls were all of the awards his spirits have won in various contests. He gave us a tour of the distillery and all of the machines he uses and explained the processing for each spirit. It's really clear that this is a passionate artist who has honed his craft and enjoys sharing his excitement and art with others. You can tell that the end result is a high quality product. Gin is certainly the specialty here and it's pretty outstanding stuff. Usually if I sniff any old bottle of gin, it's not a pleasant experience but one whiff of this gin makes me want to inhale again. It's probably the only spirits I would bring to a fancy party or make craft cocktails at home with. I'm so glad to see Goleta Red spirits in local bars like the Goodland, I'd recommend any local or tourist to stop by for a tasting or try a craft cocktail for a real local experience!

Great service, met the owner, nice guy, well curated beers on tap (I think they generally have 16 on tap) ranging from a few from overseas if you are in to Belgians or what have you and then a well chosen selection of great beers from all over - maybe a bit California heavy but there is a helluva lot of great beer in California. I hate going in to a so-called taproom and I can't find anything I have never had on tap. Why go to a place with a bunch of variety of there is nothing new? Typical corporate or beer-illiterate taproom: "Well we have this great IPA from Lagunitas, its their IPA have you heard of Lagunitas? What about Sam Adams? Oh and we have Guinness if you are into *throws finger quotes* dark beers. Oh we also have Sierra Nevada Pale I think it comes all the way from NorCal!" Ugh. Again - great rotating selection here...and a bonus couple of coolers where you can score some cans and bottles to go of some more great craft beer. Ambiance is local bar/brewery, they have food some nights (had a great smashburger from Goodland Grillers tonight) and trivia on Thursdays. There I included the word ambiance are you happy Yelp? Cheers.

Comfy and relaxing, and dim lighting. Drink menu was diverse. Great selection. From cocktails to all types of alcohol. With an average price range of $15. Bartender knew his craft. All drinks ordered were great! C for service. The service dept needs some help, and I get it, with one person serving 15+ people. It is impossible to provide a5 star service. Initially service was great with a smile when we first arrived @ 6 pm. But soon after the bar became super busy. The wait was 20-30 minutes for an order. It was time to leave. We asked for our check and it came non-itemized. If it was 2 or 4 drinks that would be fine, but we were party of 3 with over 10 drinks. Then we had to wait again after asking for an itemized check. Waiter stated they need to hand write as their "machine" was not working. That took more time than needed. Ahhhhhh.... Ah well.. you can't get it all. Hence the 3.5 stars. I recommend, to sit at the bar and maybe pay cash to avoid hurdles I experienced.

The selection impressed me from the first time I walked in. Really, it was better than I expected for the tiny college eating/drinking/shopping/services area that is Isla Vista, even knowing there would be a large number of beer aficionados here. There is an entire aisle of refrigerator cases stocked with four- and six-packs of beer, and another aisle is half cold case, half unrefrigerated beer in cans and mostly large-format bottles. The breadth of brewing companies and styles presents beers from many countries and likely has something for every palate. I see a few one-star reviews and I can't speak to the experiences those people had. I can say that I have never felt I was treated rudely. Perhaps this is because I'm a graduate student, though that really shouldn't have anything to do with it. I also haven't had cause to ask any questions about selection, because I let the beers give me all the info I need. But I do make smalltalk with the employees while at the register, and it's always been fine. There's also an impressively large selection of other types of liquors, liqueurs, and mixers, and some snacks as well. I've seen quite a few interesting looking bottles I'd be interested in trying, if I had more time to drink (grad student) and more money (yeah, grad student). I hope this store survives the Covid-19 pandemic. For those who stay in IV, drinking may be a pretty appealing activity, so I expect it will.
