What a great vibes winery at the Funk Zone! My husband and I were wandering around. I think it was the owner who we ran into...but as we walked by, he asked what kind of wines we liked. He was so honest and said, "if you prefer that kind of wine, then next door to us serves those types of wines." However, when I mentioned my husband's preferences, he said Orgullo has what my husband likes. Emily was our server when we sat down and she was the SWEETEST. She went out of her way to get the wines we preferred and gave me Instructions on how to order food from the food truck next door. She was so kind, warm, and cheerful. Such a wonderful experience at Orgullo Wine in Santa Barbara! This Latino owned winery is truly a hidden gem. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and his wife, and from the moment I walked in, they made me feel like I was at home with family. They were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and passionate about what they do. I did the wine tasting, and I loved how detailed they were with each pour. They took the time to explain the wines, the different flavors and notes, and what makes each one unique. You can really feel the pride and love that goes into their wines and everything I tasted was delicious! If you're looking for a fun Santa Barbara day trip, I definitely recommend hopping on the Amtrak, enjoying the ride up the coast, and walking over to Orgullo Wine for a tasting. The vibe here is something else. You don't find many places like this. Great staff, affordable wine tasting. You can come here and get a tasting for $25, cheapest on the block and listen to some great music. As soon as you walk in you're serenaded by Juan Gabriel and Vicente Fernandez. The art work will take you back to your childhood. Selena on the wall, along with the many Mexican icons. This is a Latino own buisness. We were walking in the funk town area and saw a buy one get one flight of wine. The place was small and had outside seating but there was a private party. We sat inside with some uncomfortable chairs and the wine tasting pour was half of a 1/4. The guy who served was nice however, it was only 3 of us drinking and he added 20% gratuity to the bill. I have never seen a gratuity that high especially when you only come and pour a literal sip. Next time, I will probably try other wineries as this one had many wines that had a dry note at the end and some of thr flavors were muted. read more

What a stellar experience I had at Orgullo! I love that this winery was Latino owned- please be sure to support! What drew us in was the BOGO flights for $25 and included 5 tastings! The owners were so friendly and accommodating, and loved hearing their story. The vibes itself were 10/10, got a cute outdoor patio that we stayed on for over two hours because we were having such a great time. The wines are delicious. My favorite was the coyote rojo. They also offer a wine club if that interests you. If I ever come back to SB, I'm definitely coming here! Hidden Gem Alert! Before heading to Santa Barbara, I googled "Latino wineries" and came across Orgullo Wine--and WOW, I'm so glad I did. We stopped by on a Friday afternoon before heading home and were greeted by the amazing Emily, full of energy and warmth. As two newbies to natural wine, we couldn't have asked for a better introduction. Emily walked us through Orgullo's story, their wine-making process, and the powerful mission behind the brand. The space itself is a cultural masterpiece, featuring iconic figures like Vicente Fernández, Juan Gabriel, Chespirito, Pancho Villa, Emiliano Zapata, and Selena. As a proud Mexican-American, I felt instantly connected. I've never been much of a wine person, but let me tell you--the wine was incredible. So much so that... we became wine club members after just one visit! We came back the following weekend with friends and fell even more in love--this time with the Luna Roja (we took more bottles home, of course). Emily was there again to make our visit special, and we also met Marissa, who was equally amazing and even let us finish the last bit of White Light (75% Chardonnay, 25% Chenin Blanc)--a special treat from the previous winery that once occupied the space. Dear Orgullo owners: please bring something like this back! This place made me feel so proud to be Mexican--to come from a family who sacrificed so much for a better life. Shoutout to Jess B for this wonderful find in the funk zone. A great winery and spot to chill indoors while navigating all of the great wines and eats in the funk zone. I'm glad Jess showed us this spot as it's tucked away and it wouldn't have been a spot I would have likely found on my own at first. When we walked inside it was a bit quiet, dark (which I like) but not a whole lot initially off the bat to help us gauge what this spot would be like. Thankfully our group is a loud and fun rowdy good time so we livened up the place a little. Honestly that was all that was needed as a couple more people trickled in and good times were to be had. I liked the whole Area 51 theme, it's unique and far out. Lol. But we were informed that the winery name and decor will be changing so that's something new and interesting to be on the lookout for overtime. It will be the same wine maker and stuff, I look forward to their new approach. The wines here are great. I am not a wine expert but I know enough to say if something tastes great or doesn't lol and I was really impressed with their whites and rose. I honestly wished I had done a tasting here as trying little sips of my friend's wine I was impressed! Great value if you do a tasting and the pours were generous and every sip was very good. Walked in around 12/12:30 PM on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all! We did one tasting and then each got a glass each after. The tasting has a flight of 5. Our favorites were the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir! You can really taste the coconut hints in the Chardonnay which was so unique. The glasses of wine also had some generous pours! We started here for a 21st birthday celebration tour, in the end we ended up at 3 total tasting rooms. Our wine steward, or sommelier, depending on how bougie you want to be, was Jesse. She did a nice job and was very personable. You have two options on where you will enjoy your drinking experience, the inside tasting room, or the outside vineyard. We enjoyed the fresh air of outside, which is not really a vineyard, but a tastefully decorated area. Jesse, was super helpful in pulling together some chairs to accommodate our group and really was a great host. My group did the $25 wine flight, which included a variety of whites and reds. Jesse did a nice job of explaining each glass and mentally preparing us. Truth be told, I liked the wine selections, but they were not as complex and tasty as the other locations we hit. On both visits, all of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The wine was also very tasty! I learned that an Australian man created the place and since he loved aliens and his immigration status was "Alien" he made this theme. 5/1 was also his birthday. Now owned by 5 Mexicans who also love to say they are "Aliens". The wine is good. Definitely worth a try. Bottles are $30-$40. Probably overpriced. They have truffle chocolates and charcuterie board too. A quick stop on your wine tasting hopping. It's only two blocks off State street. I thought some of the tasting flights were very small. The saving grace of the evening was their white blend which included 45% Semillon blended Sauv Blanc, Chenin. I could not finish the 5 taster flight. Their reds were left outside, unfridged, uncorked, and sitting on the hot ground near the wooden barrel. The oxidation and heat got to my last 2 reds which only had qualities of nail polish with tannins. The Rosé had pear and bubblegum ( the hubba hubba kind), and lacks any depth elsewhere else. It's balanced dryness was palpable. Tap water was available upon request. If you just want to get drunk, sure this place is good enough. read more

So, I have to be honest here. Service was friendly and on point, and the environs (indoors and outdoors) are cool and comfortable. No problem there. The wines range from decent to not so good. Be aware, I am a bit of a wine snob, but my decidedly non-wine-snob friends agreed with me. The Celestial (Pinot Noir and Montepulciano(!)) was my favorite, but it was good and not great. My friends enjoyed the Equinox (Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Riesling). The Zinvasion (mostly Zinfandel) was kind of meh, and Rosewell (mostly Grenache rose) was downright strange (consistent reaction of "is this smoked meat?!?"). About the only thing I love more than wine tasting is vintage Sci-Fi, so when my friend and I were out tasting in the Funk Zone this past Saturday and I saw the name of this place, I just knew we had to stop in! Area 51 is the common name of a highly classified United States Air Force facility located within the Nevada Test and Training Range. Fans of Stargate: SG-1 (moi!) can tell you that all the coolest and most high-tech alien Gizmos have been stored there by the US Government, and if you want to hang out with Little Green Men it's unquestionably the place to go ;-) This little gem of a tasting room has a similar name, and shamelessly (in a most interesting and intriguing fashion) riffs on the Area 51 concepts and names in an attempt to make Area 5.1 stand out a bit from the dozens of other tasting rooms in SB's Funk Zone. They're efforts are highly successful - if you take the time to pay this place a visit I'm confident you'll find it most enjoyable. Tip: Their tasting flight consists of five pours of wines with Alien themed names like "Close Encounter", "White Light', and "Zinvasion". The cost of a tasting is $20. Santa Barbara (and the rest of California) seems to be about to do away with most of the Pandemic restrictions; Area 5.1 was offering both indoor and outdoor tasting when we were there. While the wines aren't in the same category as those you'll find at Melville or Riverbench, we found all the wines on the tasting list very approachable and reasonably priced. My favorite pour of the day was unquestionably the 2019 "Conspiracy Red" blend. It's both spicy and sweet, with hints of vanilla, delicate notes of dark berries, and very mild tannins. The bottle price is $36; it's the highest priced (and besting tasting) of the five wines on the tasting list. We very much enjoyed the tasting experience at Area 5.1 - I look forward to returning and trying their new offerings in the future! read more

I'm giving them a 3 because I feel like they're still getting set up, so I won't go too hard. They mentioned they are just now creating charcuterie boards for their menu and they still have some boxes so I'm assuming this is a new winery. They also don't have set hours, they say sometimes they stay open later than posted or some times leave earlier. We came for a flight, but we're told they were done doing flights for the day and were only doing glasses. We stayed since we had wanted to come here for the theme. Another party came in after us and left after being told the flights were done for the day. The wall art is cool to look at but other than that the vibe is kind of empty and awkward. I feel like they aren't leaning as far into the whole alien theme as they could. They also didn't have any stickers or glasses for sale. Came here for lotería night I was sooo excited ! I was planning it with my gf all week. First thing was when we came in the guy at front told us we could not get one bottle to share . That's fine because he told us that a couple cups of wine would make a full bottle . So sure I'm very up for it . When he poured it I was flabbergasted. I couldn't tell if I was scammed out of a glass or I'm just an alcoholic lol . But when I saw other people get their glasses they were way more full than mine.
