Such a wonderful experience at Orgullo Wine in Santa Barbara! This Latino owned winery is truly a hidden gem. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and his wife, and from the moment I walked in, they made me feel like I was at home with family. They were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and passionate about what they do. I did the wine tasting, and I loved how detailed they were with each pour. They took the time to explain the wines, the different flavors and notes, and what makes each one unique. You can really feel the pride and love that goes into their wines and everything I tasted was delicious! If you're looking for a fun Santa Barbara day trip, I definitely recommend hopping on the Amtrak, enjoying the ride up the coast, and walking over to Orgullo Wine for a tasting. It's such an easy and enjoyable way to spend the day. Great wine, beautiful culture, and even better hospitality. I will definitely be back. Salud! read more

What a great vibes winery at the Funk Zone! My husband and I were wandering around. I think it was the owner who we ran into...but as we walked by, he asked what kind of wines we liked. He was so honest and said, "if you prefer that kind of wine, then next door to us serves those types of wines." However, when I mentioned my husband's preferences, he said Orgullo has what my husband likes. Emily was our server when we sat down and she was the SWEETEST. She went out of her way to get the wines we preferred and gave me Instructions on how to order food from the food truck next door. She was so kind, warm, and cheerful. We made it a point to let the gentlemen who we first talked to know how much we enjoyed Emily's service. We bought home a few bottles to share with friends and my friends absolutely loved it! Great spot and a definite return for us read more

Nice little spot where I found myself after tiring myself out from walking around the area. Shared a bottle of wine with my husband and a bit of conversation with the lovely young woman working at the time. read more

Formerly Area 5.1, now under new ownership and fully owning its glow-up. Orgullo Wine is Latino-owned, community-rooted, and brings a lively, welcoming energy to the Funk Zone. The aesthetic is intentional and well done. Mexican icons on the walls, thoughtful decor throughout, and fresh flower centerpieces that quietly say someone here actually cares. It feels curated, not forced. I've seen a review floating around claiming Angel is rude, which hasn't matched my experience at all. Every interaction I've had has been professional and friendly. This feels more like a busy Friday night where people were camping without ordering wine and didn't love being reminded that a wine bar is, indeed, for drinking wine. Wine + service * Tasting flights are $25 and well curated * They occasionally offer two-for-one wine flights * Small-batch wines produced in the Santa Ynez Valley by Esfuerzo Wines * Standout favorites include the Coyote Rojo Bordeaux-style blend & the Sauvignon Blanc is crisp, refreshing, and easy to love * Marissa, one of the tasting associates, is consistently hospitable and attentive and makes the experience feel effortless Vibe and events * Fridays feature Lotería with a DJ from 6-10pm * Lively without being chaotic * A solid mix of locals, regulars, and people actually there for the wine If you're looking for good wine, a fun atmosphere, and a Funk Zone spot that blends culture with care, Orgullo Wine is doing it right. Order wine, enjoy the space, and let the night unfold. read more

This spot was so cute and a fun outdoor patio to hangout in and enjoy the wines. We did a wine tasting and our server was very kind and knowledgeable about what she was giving us! They don't have food but they allow you to order from the pizza truck next door and it is hand delivered to you! This area had so many different wine shops to pick from and I'm glad this was the one that caught our eye! read more

We went to the place next door but the music from Orgullo was as calling our names. We could laugh and joke without having to be quiet. The servers came over regularly to pour our next wines. *wine tip - if you have someone in your group who "doesn't like wine" pour sprite or squirt in your white wine or cherry coke/pepsi in reds. Makes it taste sooo good and your non wine person will also have a good time. :) read more

Stopped by in December and failed to finish my review. This spot was Area 51. It recently changed names to Orgullo. Located in SB's Funk Zone. The wine is good. Small spot , cozy and chill. Good place to unwind. Only one person was working and he was attentive. I would come back. read more

The vibe here is something else. You don't find many places like this. Great staff, affordable wine tasting. You can come here and get a tasting for $25, cheapest on the block and listen to some great music. As soon as you walk in you're serenaded by Juan Gabriel and Vicente Fernandez. The art work will take you back to your childhood. Selena on the wall, along with the many Mexican icons. This is a Latino own buisness. Come in, get your drink on and explore what Santa Barbara has to offer. This will definitely be one of my starts next time I am in the area. read more

We were walking in the funk town area and saw a buy one get one flight of wine. The place was small and had outside seating but there was a private party. We sat inside with some uncomfortable chairs and the wine tasting pour was half of a 1/4. The guy who served was nice however, it was only 3 of us drinking and he added 20% gratuity to the bill. I have never seen a gratuity that high especially when you only come and pour a literal sip. Next time, I will probably try other wineries as this one had many wines that had a dry note at the end and some of thr flavors were muted. read more

What a stellar experience I had at Orgullo! I love that this winery was Latino owned- please be sure to support! What drew us in was the BOGO flights for $25 and included 5 tastings! The owners were so friendly and accommodating, and loved hearing their story. The vibes itself were 10/10, got a cute outdoor patio that we stayed on for over two hours because we were having such a great time. The wines are delicious. My favorite was the coyote rojo. They also offer a wine club if that interests you. If I ever come back to SB, I'm definitely coming here! My only feedback is I hope they can maybe include a few food options in the future but overall, 5 stars all around! read more

Hidden Gem Alert! Before heading to Santa Barbara, I googled "Latino wineries" and came across Orgullo Wine--and WOW, I'm so glad I did. We stopped by on a Friday afternoon before heading home and were greeted by the amazing Emily, full of energy and warmth. As two newbies to natural wine, we couldn't have asked for a better introduction. Emily walked us through Orgullo's story, their wine-making process, and the powerful mission behind the brand. The space itself is a cultural masterpiece, featuring iconic figures like Vicente Fernández, Juan Gabriel, Chespirito, Pancho Villa, Emiliano Zapata, and Selena. As a proud Mexican-American, I felt instantly connected. I've never been much of a wine person, but let me tell you--the wine was incredible. So much so that... we became wine club members after just one visit! We came back the following weekend with friends and fell even more in love--this time with the Luna Roja (we took more bottles home, of course). Emily was there again to make our visit special, and we also met Marissa, who was equally amazing and even let us finish the last bit of White Light (75% Chardonnay, 25% Chenin Blanc)--a special treat from the previous winery that once occupied the space. Dear Orgullo owners: please bring something like this back! This place made me feel so proud to be Mexican--to come from a family who sacrificed so much for a better life. The music, the vibe, the hospitality, the culture--it all made me want to dance (and sip, of course). I'll keep coming back and bringing more friends with me. Orgullo has my heart--and full support. read more

Shoutout to Jess B for this wonderful find in the funk zone. A great winery and spot to chill indoors while navigating all of the great wines and eats in the funk zone. I'm glad Jess showed us this spot as it's tucked away and it wouldn't have been a spot I would have likely found on my own at first. When we walked inside it was a bit quiet, dark (which I like) but not a whole lot initially off the bat to help us gauge what this spot would be like. Thankfully our group is a loud and fun rowdy good time so we livened up the place a little. Honestly that was all that was needed as a couple more people trickled in and good times were to be had. I liked the whole Area 51 theme, it's unique and far out. Lol. But we were informed that the winery name and decor will be changing so that's something new and interesting to be on the lookout for overtime. It will be the same wine maker and stuff, I look forward to their new approach. The wines here are great. I am not a wine expert but I know enough to say if something tastes great or doesn't lol and I was really impressed with their whites and rose. I honestly wished I had done a tasting here as trying little sips of my friend's wine I was impressed! Great value if you do a tasting and the pours were generous and every sip was very good. I shared a bottle of the White Light with a friend and it was lovely. A smooth white to drink and we went through a bottle quickly. I felt the bottles of wine were well priced as was the tasting. Definitely a good spot to stop to not break the bank but get some great tastes! Shoutout to Tommy who was working when we came in. He was lovely, super personable and eager to guide us through the wines. He had a great sense of humor and was very knowledgeable and passionate about the wines, while still making it feel approachable for someone like me who knows nothing about wine. I liked that he really focused on our experience vs making it about how well versed we are or aren't on wines. He definitely made this trip A+ and we all agreed we'd come back soon because of the service and awesome wines. If you haven't been here yet definitely check them out and just be aware some changes will be coming soon to the name and vibe, but the great wines will still be here. read more

Low key vibes, fun decor, tasty wines, and attentive service. We stopped in with our kids for a tasting and the owner was very chill with us and accommodating of the kids. We left with a bottle of rose and one of their cool tshirts. Highly recommend. read more

We sampled a glass of red wine at Orgullo and sat outside on a sunny and cool day. The server was friendly and attentive. I wanted to like their wine, but found the red to be bland and lacked flavor. Walked in around 12/12:30 PM on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all! We did one tasting and then each got a glass each after. The tasting has a flight of 5. Indoor and outdoor seating, not intimidating at all and the selection was lovely. The interior was cozy and perfect for smaller groups. read more

0 stars, ZERO. Angel the manager on duty aggressively greeted my friend group by informing us we had to buy 2 bottles in order to be seated and play during the lotería night they host on Friday nights. We regularly visit this place in fridays to play lotería and this night specifically, this man aggressively wanted us to pay for two bottles in order for us to sit/play. We talked to other tables around us and they had informed they weren't required to pay for 2 bottles in order to stay. The employees at the establishment are beyond rude and disrespectful. I hope Angel is forced to attend some form of training after this experience. SHAME ON YOU read more

Area 5.1 Winery is a perfect spot to have a glass of wine, do some tasting and spend time with friends. It's location is in the center of The Funk Zone and can accommodate outdoor patio seating or indoor seating in their air conditioned tasting room. The wine selection includes reds, white and sparkling wine. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and can make great recommendations for what you'd like to drink. We started here for a 21st birthday celebration tour, in the end we ended up at 3 total tasting rooms. Our wine steward, or sommelier, depending on how bougie you want to be, was Jesse. She did a nice job and was very personable. You have two options on where you will enjoy your drinking experience, the inside tasting room, or the outside vineyard. We enjoyed the fresh air of outside, which is not really a vineyard, but a tastefully decorated area. Jesse, was super helpful in pulling together some chairs to accommodate our group and really was a great host. My group did the $25 wine flight, which included a variety of whites and reds. Jesse did a nice job of explaining each glass and mentally preparing us. Truth be told, I liked the wine selections, but they were not as complex and tasty as the other locations we hit. Some in our group were thrown by the grape seed sediment. The alien theme was fun, and not too over the top. We enjoyed our afternoon, thanks Jesse. read more

One of our (many) winery stops in downtown Santa Barbara. This spot has clean and spacious indoor seating area, and an outdoor patio with plenty of seating - which is where we sat. We each ordered two pours of a white and a red, both were great. The staff member who helped us was great. He even told us some Area 51, alien-related, stories, which was fun to hear after two glasses of wine ;). Definitely worth a stop if you're winery hopping. :) read more

I think the wine here was great. It is way better than the wine from Area 51. The service was spectacular. I loved all the touches inside the tasting room for Dia de Los Muertos. I would definitely come back here. I came with my friend who is a wine club member. A perk to being a wine e club member is that you get 4 wine tastings each time you go. We ended up being a group of 4 so this perk worked out great. read more

This was sadly a huge bust. I was so excited to try this spot out! When we arrived, we were seated outside on the patio. When our server came to take our orders, she may have been new but we asked if the 5 pours listed on the flight were their only selections and she did not know. She also did not give any information about the establishment, the wine we were drinking, any description. Helpful Tip: The tasting experience is $25 for their preselected wines. You get 5 tastings. I would not have minded this price point if the wine had been enjoyable. I ordered a sip of their pinto to start out and it turned the mouth pretty instantly. It tasted like vodka spiked cranberry juice. My husband ordered a glass and could not finish it. I would not come back here or recommend it since there are many other wineries and wine tasting spots/bars restaurants where your $ will be better spent and you will get a story and full history behind the winemakers and their creations. read more

It's a pretty standard place. It's just a tasting room. The man helping us with our flight was very knowledgeable and passionate about wine. I learned that an Australian man created the place and since he loved aliens and his immigration status was "Alien" he made this theme. 5/1 was also his birthday. Now owned by 5 Mexicans who also love to say they are "Aliens". The wine is good. Definitely worth a try. Bottles are $30-$40. Probably overpriced. They have truffle chocolates and charcuterie board too. A quick stop on your wine tasting hopping. It's only two blocks off State street. I thought some of the tasting flights were very small. I guess I'm used to 1/2 to 1/3 a glass per taste. This was like 1 to 2 sips for some since they were poured inconsistently. read more

The saving grace of the evening was their white blend which included 45% Semillon blended Sauv Blanc, Chenin. I could not finish the 5 taster flight. Their reds were left outside, unfridged, uncorked, and sitting on the hot ground near the wooden barrel. The oxidation and heat got to my last 2 reds which only had qualities of nail polish with tannins. The Rosé had pear and bubblegum ( the hubba hubba kind), and lacks any depth elsewhere else. It's balanced dryness was palpable. Tap water was available upon request. If you just want to get drunk, sure this place is good enough. read more

So, I have to be honest here. Service was friendly and on point, and the environs (indoors and outdoors) are cool and comfortable. No problem there. The wines range from decent to not so good. Be aware, I am a bit of a wine snob, but my decidedly non-wine-snob friends agreed with me. The Celestial (Pinot Noir and Montepulciano(!)) was my favorite, but it was good and not great. My friends enjoyed the Equinox (Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Riesling). The Zinvasion (mostly Zinfandel) was kind of meh, and Rosewell (mostly Grenache rose) was downright strange (consistent reaction of "is this smoked meat?!?"). Cool concept, uneven wines IMO. read more

About the only thing I love more than wine tasting is vintage Sci-Fi, so when my friend and I were out tasting in the Funk Zone this past Saturday and I saw the name of this place, I just knew we had to stop in! Area 51 is the common name of a highly classified United States Air Force facility located within the Nevada Test and Training Range. Fans of Stargate: SG-1 (moi!) can tell you that all the coolest and most high-tech alien Gizmos have been stored there by the US Government, and if you want to hang out with Little Green Men it's unquestionably the place to go ;-) This little gem of a tasting room has a similar name, and shamelessly (in a most interesting and intriguing fashion) riffs on the Area 51 concepts and names in an attempt to make Area 5.1 stand out a bit from the dozens of other tasting rooms in SB's Funk Zone. They're efforts are highly successful - if you take the time to pay this place a visit I'm confident you'll find it most enjoyable. Tip: Their tasting flight consists of five pours of wines with Alien themed names like "Close Encounter", "White Light', and "Zinvasion". The cost of a tasting is $20. Santa Barbara (and the rest of California) seems to be about to do away with most of the Pandemic restrictions; Area 5.1 was offering both indoor and outdoor tasting when we were there. While the wines aren't in the same category as those you'll find at Melville or Riverbench, we found all the wines on the tasting list very approachable and reasonably priced. My favorite pour of the day was unquestionably the 2019 "Conspiracy Red" blend. It's both spicy and sweet, with hints of vanilla, delicate notes of dark berries, and very mild tannins. The bottle price is $36; it's the highest priced (and besting tasting) of the five wines on the tasting list. We very much enjoyed the tasting experience at Area 5.1 - I look forward to returning and trying their new offerings in the future! read more

I'm giving them a 3 because I feel like they're still getting set up, so I won't go too hard. They mentioned they are just now creating charcuterie boards for their menu and they still have some boxes so I'm assuming this is a new winery. They also don't have set hours, they say sometimes they stay open later than posted or some times leave earlier. We came for a flight, but we're told they were done doing flights for the day and were only doing glasses. We stayed since we had wanted to come here for the theme. Another party came in after us and left after being told the flights were done for the day. The wall art is cool to look at but other than that the vibe is kind of empty and awkward. I feel like they aren't leaning as far into the whole alien theme as they could. They also didn't have any stickers or glasses for sale. Overall it just feels unfinished which is why I think they may be a new winery. read more
