Great coffee, food, staff, and vibes. I come here at least once a week. It's nice to find an actual local coffee shop that feels like a local coffee shop and not a corporate wasteland. Lots of local art and music; it's a great space to get some writing, reading, or thinking done. Side note, their pastries are AMAZING. Highly recommend the mochi cafe and whatever coffee cake they're doing that day (they mix up the flavors on the coffee cake). And for breakfast, the trout caper bagel is to die for. read more

We stopped here on our day trip in Duluth and it's a lovely coffee shop you need to check out! A plethora of coffee-based choices on their menu. I ordered a dark chocolate cherry espresso with oat milk and it was divine. The mango-coconut coffee cake was dense and delicious. There are several indoor tables to choose from and it seems more of a coffee shop to catch up with friends than to study or work. Staff were very kind and efficient, despite being very busy. Too bad we didn't come at the right time for performances and missed seeing a band perform here, but I'd recommend this place to anyone! read more

Wussow's is a cool coffee shop and music venue on the south side of Duluth. It has more than a few labeled vegan options including two baked goods (usually a cookie and a peanut butter chocolate bar) and a curry vegan burger, veggie sausage and a couple other options. I got a vegan snickerdoodle cookie ($2) and thought it was okay, but a tad dry. The vegan scotcheroo ($4) was better and is basically a peanut butter rice crispy topped with chocolate. This one tasted great and helped me along during a hike later in the day in the beautiful Duluth woods. Stop by Wussow's for a cool vibe and decent food. This is a review of Wussow's takeout during COVID-19. Man, I'd love to come back to check out their live shows when live shows are a thing again! *Cries into PJs/daily outfit* Anywho, when we went to Wussow's at the end of August, they were being safe and functional -- no one was allowed inside, but you could place and pay for your order online for drive-thru pickup. I think that's still the format now. I love that they source local and quality ingredients, like Yker Acres and Red Hoof Farms for beef and pork, Seeds of Success for our rotating summer veggies, Third Street Bakery, Duluth's Best Bread, local organic and cruelty-free eggs, etc. These elements truly elevate their menu of not-your-average cafe items. Their menu rotates often... when we went we got a veggie wrap and a version of a Cubano panini. The veggies were bright and even juicy; so refreshing and flavorful! My Cubano had delicious Yker pork in it, some of the best around. Their version wasn't quite like the classic that I craved, but still delicious. The side bean salad could have used a little more seasoning, but we appreciated the fresh crunchy vegetables. Check out their seasonal menu! Upon arriving, a couple friendly customers out front assured us that it was free to park (thankfully, no app needed). Also, I assume the City of Duluth ran out of stops signs by the time it got to this locale (which is great, somebody needs to introduce city planning to this thing called a yield sign). The coffee shop has a Pulp Fiction and Empire Records vibe due to their employees and regulars. I am not sure how they pull it off but be aware that you need to give your order in sequence and not dilly dally (hint: the menus are at the register, get one of those in advance). Otherwise, it's possible the first portion of your order may not get inputted. So, order like you would if you were an extra in Seinfeld. Remember, if you want a regular coffee -- it's a medium. Seriously though, the experience and the ambiance of this place is stellar. We stayed and sipped our coffee while contemplating the arrival of fresh produce on a dolly, likely to be whipped up into a delicious meal. Folks, this is not a franchise nor does it feel corporately owned like so many other downtown shops. This is where local Duluthers go to avoid stop signs, people-watch, and catch up with one another. It's been a neighborhood staple for a long time now. The food and drink options are the best in the neighborhood. I always enjoy daily specials, as they are commonly very creative. I have been coming through nearly every week for just over ten years an i finally thought I would comment. There used to be a high vibe, in here. That seems to be long gone. Could just be that I don't catch it when I come in, but it was a more jovial experience everyday, in years past. Now just be happy you supported another local spot with poor customer service. read more

I had my service dog with me and they told me it was a health code violation. A party of three people with a pitbull proceeded to take their seat without any issue. The staff said they hadn't told them the policy. Then I asked why my dog has to go and theirs can stay they said their dog is a service dog but mine is not. Neither dog had designation of service dog but customer's started to join in and tell me mine needs to have a service dog designation displayed clearly. They called the police and said my dog was aggressive in a very cowardly fashion. I don't know if it was a customer or a owner I told him see you on the golf course. Customers threatened to carry me out but I told them they won't put a finger on me and kept my composure. The police did not find me because I avoided main streets like a ninja. I generally am very stoic but I will admit the people of Wussows turned a great morning into something else for me. read more

I went to Wussow's for the first time on their open mic night, and I have to say, it has one of the best vibes of any place I have ever been! It's chill, accepting, and no matter how talented (or not at all talented) the person on stage was, everyone clapped and was encouraging to them! And I will say - there were some really incredible artists who played! Besides that, the menu was wonderful. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options. And the drink options were so great too! I got a strawberry basil cider which was lovely, and a house salad which had the best tomatoes on it of any place I've been. Most places have cardboard for tomatoes (and iceberg lettuce but this had wonderful fresh greens) but this was easily one of the best salads I've gotten anywhere! The dressing was maple mustard, but the gal behind the counter asked if I wanted to try their olive oil citrus dressing as well which was a good suggestion too! And that leads me to the staff - they had many customers to deal with but were so kind and efficient! This entire place just wowed me. I will definitely be back! read more

I read the other reviews, none of them mention that they schedule bands to play on their stage. I was traveling here to visit my brother, who lives nearby. There is also plenty of seating available here (see pictures), so a large group can meet here and converse with ease. It has the local scene feel to it. The staff was friendly enough. I asked for a caramel macchiato (my favorite Starbucks drink), the barista was smart enough to ask if I wanted a vanilla latte topped with a caramel drizzle or a true macchiato (which is espresso with a couple scoops of steamed milk foam). I asked for the Starbucks version (the latte), which turned out very good. All in all if I lived nearby, this would be my coffee 'hang out' scene, but I don't think it could replace my Starbucks. read more

I stopped by here two Saturday mornings ago by myself for my morning coffee. There is no particular reason that I chose Beaners Central other than after I had made it past downtown Duluth, I put coffee in Google maps and this is what it gave me. Upon arriving to the shop I was the fourth person in line and spent most of my time trying to figure out what I wanted to order. I was hoping that it was going to be a quick process but it didn't end up being so. The gentlemen two people in front of me was buying Nelly concert tickets from them (I think that's what I heard) but wanted more expensive seats which they didn't have. Then the lady in front of me bought a gift certificate which happened to be paper and took awhile also. Anyways for my coffee on this morning it was the special that caught my eye, a vanilla cherry latte, and so I ordered it. It was ready a couple of minutes after I had ordered it and I was on my way. Whenever I tried it I was able to taste a little bit of the flavoring but not too much of it. I got more of the coffee (that's a good thing) but it's flavor wasn't so great probably due to the other flavors in it. In the end I thought it was an ok drink but that it wasn't something that I would order it again. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While it took a little while for me to purchase my coffee and then it was merely ok, I would still be interested in trying their Americano. read more

I'm in nursing school and needed a place to study but forgot that on certain days there is live music. To accommodate my study partner and I, the owner allowed us to use a private room to study in so we couldn't hear the music. I come here every week to have coffee and study, it's THE perfect spot. read more

Beaner's was my coffee house when I lived in West Duluth and I loved it! The coffee is incredible and they have delicious baked goods. But don't assume that Beaner's is only a coffee shop. They have lunch, dinner, wine, concerts, and local beers on tap! The Crazy and Crazier Cucumber Sandwiches are great but I think the Wholly Guacamole is my favorite. The owner is such a nice guy the first time I was in he gave me one of their local session CD's. Not only that all of the staff are so nice and helpful! I really like the feel of this cafe. It is the ultimate neighborhood spot where you bump into your neighbors and see all the regulars. I would suggest you go on Thursday evening drink the 1/2 off bottles of wine listen to live music and get a couple sandwiches or the hummus platter and have a great little evening. The last selling point of Beaner's for me is all the great seating and local art that is featured. I bought many gifts from local artists from here while I lived here. Muffins, macaroons, and moon pies, oh my! .... and pies, cookies, scones, cupcakes, and gluten free brownies too! Whether it's your first stop in, or last stop out, you MUST stop by Beaner's! I ordered a large coconut mocha (which comes with 4 shots) and it was perfect; not too sweet, not too strong. Nice full coffee flavor that wasn't a bit bitter. And, did I mention the nice little homemade pastry/dessert case? We weren't there long enough for me to figure out what variety of cooked menu items they had, but the two specials on the board, a turkey avocado omelet wrap and roasted garlic, asparagus potato soup, both sounded interesting. They also have a small stage for live music and a nice beer and wine selection to choose from. We'll definitely be back! read more

Wonderful local cafe! They have an open-mic night every Wednesday starting at 7pm, featuring local artists performing a variety of genres. The coffee here is great; they grind their coffee beans and brew their espresso the correct way, and the staff seems down to earth and friendly. Lots of breakfast and lunch/dinner food items to choose from. They have deli-style sandwiches, panini, and melts. In their pastry case are fresh-made cookies, scones, pies, cakes, and more. They have unique coffee treats, unique food, and unique dessert options. Service is a tad slow, but the small prep area with a couple of baristas/prep cooks can't do a whole lot better; just si back and enjoy the atmosphere! I tried some of their lentil soup (which had a great spicy kick) and also tried their hot pepper panini. Portion size was filling, flavors were satisfying, and there is enough variety here to make me want to come back. In addition to coffee and tea, they have bottled and draft beers, featuring local and unique varieties. A unique drink that is offered is something they call a Headlock. They mix two shots of espresso with Guinness dark beer. I tried this, but instead of Guinness I chose to try it with Lion Stout, a local dark variety. It was different, but I definitely liked it; the Lion Stout has a chocolate undertone that lent itself well with the espresso. Overall, if you are in the area I would recommend stopping by. They have a calender on their website with musicians that are performing, and if you are looking for something to do on Wednesday nights, come in for open-mic night to experience a wide variety of local flavor. read more

I love small local coffee shops and try to find them when I'm traveling. Beaner's officially made the top of my list today! Walking in I loved the overall vibe of the place and the best part was that the service was amazing. I ordered a breakfast sandwich from the menu minus a couple ingredients and they asked a few questions and it felt like I had a completely custom sandwich! We took our order to go and I couldn't wait to dive in. The sandwich was one of the best I've ever had! My family will definitely stop in next time we come through Duluth! read more

Another wonderful visit to Beaner's Central. I came in looking for a sandwich or a wrap and got to talking to Jason (the owners) and he got excited about creating a unique and new menu item for me. Beaner's subscribes to CSA shares from various farms around Duluth. They get fresh produce delivered weekly that is incorporated into their menu items.. I found this extremely impressive. Jason was excited about this Kale mix he had and so he created a custom hummus veggie wrap for me. The result....amazing! Awesome flavor and it was prepared right in front of my eyes. The serving was large and came with fresh cut carrots or blue corn chips. Great service and Great food! read more

Great coffee with great service at an average price. Wussow's Concert Cafe is the best coffee place in the area. I have gotten coffee there countless times (I recommend their vanilla latte) and I've always been greeted with polite service. Sometimes the lines can be a little bit long, but I'm always willing to wait a couple minutes for a good cup of coffee. They have a wide selection of baked goods, speciality coffees, and simple coffee classics. They also have specials every day that they announce on their instagram and in store. Beaner's may not be the most ideal coffee shop to get some (computer-based) work done. They don't have many places to plug in; you can see where therea re outlets which have been covered up. HOWEVER, the barista gave my coworker and I an extension cord. I think that was pretty awesome. I like the coffee and the music selection, and the wireless was lightning fast. My latte had the most adorably awful art on it. I've never seen anything like it before. read more

This is my place for coffee when I go home, and it has been a vital part of my father's life since he retired. I'm always surprised at how many people know each other here - and how many of them know me, even when I can't remember them (it's a dad effect). It's almost always the last place I stop before leaving Duluth.
