Vegan snickerdoodle ($2). Decent, but a tad dry.
    Kedar D.

Wussow's is a cool coffee shop and music venue on the south side of Duluth. It has more than a few labeled vegan options including two baked goods (usually a cookie and a peanut butter chocolate bar) and a curry vegan burger, veggie sausage and a couple other options. I got a vegan snickerdoodle cookie ($2) and thought it was okay, but a tad dry. The vegan scotcheroo ($4) was better and is basically a peanut butter rice crispy topped with chocolate. This one tasted great and helped me along during a hike later in the day in the beautiful Duluth woods. Stop by Wussow's for a cool vibe and decent food. If you want something similar, check out Dovetail Cafe or Positively 3rd Street Bakery.

    Cubano Panini (summer menu)

This is a review of Wussow's takeout during COVID-19. Man, I'd love to come back to check out their live shows when live shows are a thing again! *Cries into PJs/daily outfit* Anywho, when we went to Wussow's at the end of August, they were being safe and functional -- no one was allowed inside, but you could place and pay for your order online for drive-thru pickup. I think that's still the format now. I love that they source local and quality ingredients, like Yker Acres and Red Hoof Farms for beef and pork, Seeds of Success for our rotating summer veggies, Third Street Bakery, Duluth's Best Bread, local organic and cruelty-free eggs, etc. These elements truly elevate their menu of not-your-average cafe items. Their menu rotates often... when we went we got a veggie wrap and a version of a Cubano panini. The veggies were bright and even juicy; so refreshing and flavorful! My Cubano had delicious Yker pork in it, some of the best around. Their version wasn't quite like the classic that I craved, but still delicious. The side bean salad could have used a little more seasoning, but we appreciated the fresh crunchy vegetables. Check out their seasonal menu! Right now I'm eyeing some real nice breakfast options and like 10 sandwiches I want to scarf.

Hiding from my family in the car eating the best Breakfast burrito I have ever had in my life! Sorry I couldn't stop long enough to snap a good pic. The empty box shall serve as testament.

house salad with maple mustard vinaigrette and olive oil citrus vinaigrette - wonderful!

I went to Wussow's for the first time on their open mic night, and I have to say, it has one of the best vibes of any place I have ever been! It's chill, accepting, and no matter how talented (or not at all talented) the person on stage was, everyone clapped and was encouraging to them! And I will say - there were some really incredible artists who played! Besides that, the menu was wonderful. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options. And the drink options were so great too! I got a strawberry basil cider which was lovely, and a house salad which had the best tomatoes on it of any place I've been. Most places have cardboard for tomatoes (and iceberg lettuce but this had wonderful fresh greens) but this was easily one of the best salads I've gotten anywhere! The dressing was maple mustard, but the gal behind the counter asked if I wanted to try their olive oil citrus dressing as well which was a good suggestion too! And that leads me to the staff - they had many customers to deal with but were so kind and efficient! This entire place just wowed me. I will definitely be back!

I read the other reviews, none of them mention that they schedule bands to play on their stage. I was traveling here to visit my brother, who lives nearby. There is also plenty of seating available here (see pictures), so a large group can meet here and converse with ease. It has the local scene feel to it. The staff was friendly enough. I asked for a caramel macchiato (my favorite Starbucks drink), the barista was smart enough to ask if I wanted a vanilla latte topped with a caramel drizzle or a true macchiato (which is espresso with a couple scoops of steamed milk foam). I asked for the Starbucks version (the latte), which turned out very good. All in all if I lived nearby, this would be my coffee 'hang out' scene, but I don't think it could replace my Starbucks.

Oh and they have açaí bowls as well. My latte was good EXCEPT I feel like they used cinnamon powder instead of the actual cinnamon syrup. I have had this same combo at other coffee shoes and also make my own at home. I was disappointed because I do not like the taste of cinnamon powder. They may have used the syrup as well the powder but I could not taste it as the drink itself was so more tart than sweet. This combo of syrups is very sweet which is why I ordered it. I do plan on being back to try out their other coffee options as well as refreshers. Lots of seating available as well.

I'd probably put them around the quality Duluth's Best Bread but I like supporting a much more progressive place that gives back to the community. - An almond croissant that was solid for the price. Not mind-blowing, but wasn't too dense like a lot are. The flavor was really good. - A loaf of the day-old multigrain that was still excellent. Nothing to do with reputation, popularity or price, but strictly driven on taste and preference. Now, that I have my own job and my own check (20 years as a home maker), I have a little more disposable cash to endulge my personal hobbies. Coffee is one. So much so, I really considered opening a small independent coffee shop. Therefore, it goes without saying, I know about coffee--from soil to hot cup with cream. So when women entrepeneurs were showcased that morning, City Girl Coffee got my attention. Especially when she said beans are roasted and ground the same day. And she talked about the history of the parent company Alakef Coffee; a company started by her father because he wanted a good cup of coffee. Since I was running out of coffee and taking a trip to the Costco for my coffee takes planning and a 20 minute drive, I decided to give a go to Alakef. The worst that would happen is that the coffee was okay and I would freeze it as my emergency stash. The best, I would have a great cup of coffee. So I ordered a bag of French Roast (I like strong, dark coffee) and waited for its arrival. My coffee arrive the next week and I ordered ground because the convienence. When I sipped that first cup, I knew. Fresh roast, smooth taste, no bitter notes and great taste. Gentle but good coffee. Nothing harsh. My subscription for French Roast and Brazil ordered. My husband stopped drinking coffee about 3 years ago joined me in a cup--he takes his black. He vowed to get up in the morning and join me for coffee. Take aways: 1. If you like coffee and want the convience of home delivery give it a try. Subscription would cost you less than take out coffee anyday. 2. Smooth and not bitter coffee. The dark roast is not like Starbucks bold-gentle smooth taste without the harshness. 3. French Presh will yield the best flavor. Good luck and enjoy the coffee.
