This is an incredible tragedy as there was no milk or yogurt or even beef in Willow Marsh when I went. If you read this, please go into Willow Marsh and lend them your support. They have a milk subscription that they are trying to sell, so the bank knows that this is a vital service to our community. I didn't find them outrageously exciting, so I never went out of my way to buy some. Upon leaving Fresh Market in Latham today my wife had a craving to try the Crumbl store there. I don't think she had ever tasted a Crumbl cookie. Upon entering we found ourselves in close proximity to a counter displaying the variety of cookies available today. There were also four computer stations where you could place your order and pay. Having chosen credit/debit card as our means of payment we did not notice on the screen whether cash was an option. However, I do recall a notice taped to the table alongside the display cookies stating that no bills larger than $20 would be accepted. The back of the store was wide open to see and it looked clean with large storage units, commercial dough mixers, and multiple ovens and storage units for the finished cookies. There were two employees to answer any questions and fill the orders being placed. It appeared to be a very efficient operation. Once we placed our order we were out with our cookies in about five minutes. Our choices were: Pink Sugar Cookie Brownie Batter Cookie Cinnamon Roll Cookie Peanut Butter Cookie w/ Reese's Pieces We agreed that we liked the cinnamon roll and peanut butter cookies the best of the four. Those two were similar in that they had crisp edges and soft centers. In fact, the centers seemed to look barely cooked yet tasted finished. The flavor of each was exactly what you would expect, and the peanut butter cookie was the less sweet of the two. The brownie and sugar cookies were our least favorite. The sugar cookie was exceptionally sweet with its pink icing. This cookie also had a consistency of cake. It lacked that crisp edge of the two previous cookies and the center was, like the edge, a piece of cake again. The brownie batter cookie was hard around the edges, none of that crispness, just hard crunch. And the center was fully crisped. This might make sense since it had pieces of chocolate in it, and even an attempt of a few seconds in the microwave didn't seem to help much. Overall, many home baked cookies I've had are so much more to my liking. Crumbl cookies are overly sweet for my taste. If I don't want to go through the trouble of making cookies at home I'll stick to Fresh Market's raspberry or almond pillow cookies and Market 32's cranberry nut gourmet cookies.

My family and I have been loyal customers of Krause's Homemade Candy for many years. We've bought…read morechocolates for ourselves, holidays, and gifts, and visiting Krause's has always been a tradition whenever I returned to New York after living in Florida. In fact, it was the very first stop my husband and I made because I couldn't wait to enjoy my favorite chocolates again. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the new logo and packaging. While I know businesses evolve, the new design loses the classic, elegant feel that made Krause's so special and instead looks much more generic. More importantly, the chocolates themselves are not the same. Many of the pieces are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the chocolate tastes different. Several pieces even had bloom, which affected both their appearance and texture. I purchased a variety of chocolates, including individual pieces from the display case, chocolate bars, and peppermint patties, and every product seemed to reflect a decline in quality. To make matters worse, many of my longtime favorite pieces were no longer available. I've happily recommended Krause's for years because it consistently offered some of the best homemade chocolates in the Capital Region. This time, however, I left feeling disappointed and honestly saddened. I truly hope the owners will consider returning to the quality, recipes, and traditions that built Krause's outstanding reputation, because many longtime customers remember how exceptional their chocolates used to be.

Next to the register was a small package wrapped in red & white string, labeled "Bonnie's Uncommon Fruitcake." I've been a sucker for trying fruitcakes ever since I had my first slice of Freihofer's Fruitcake over seventy years ago. Here was a locally baked fruitcake with no difficult to pronounce or preservative ingredients. That definitely made it "Uncommon." Pecans, dates, candied fruit (cherries, pineapple), eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. That's it! I thought it tasted delicious. It was not overly sweet, had a good amount of nuts and candied fruit, and there was minimal cake (flour) holding it all together perfectly. I don't know where else you might be able to find this delicious fruitcake, but not to worry. Bonnie Nicolosi provided the following information on the fruitcake for you to contact her.
